You know what's funny about that??? It's the fact that there's more and more of that coming from them than ever before. The sad thing is, it really makes them look bad, because it puts them in defense mode, and most people realize that when you really have to defend yourself, there's something you are trying to defend. I've seen on other sites, this site get thrashed to pieces, and still has some of those same people on here. But, as it stands, no one makes a big fuss because this site doesn't need to be defended against. It stands on its own, and for the most part, its members have the confidence in knowing that this site that's dedicated to the franchise of Macross, can stand on it' own, just like the franchise itself. If you're gonna get banned from a site because they are so fragile in regards to opinions that go against what they feel, they're in the wrong business for sure. I'd say grow some balls, but that would imply that they even had that ability. That goes for the people running the site. I don't think Tommy gives a flying flip about the negative comments, but it seems the other two can't stand it, at least it appears that way. I've told Tommy back in the day when things sucked, as did my wife, and back then, he seemed to understand that it was done with constructive criticism attached. The other ones, and many of the fans, take constructive criticism as a personal attack, and label those, a "Macross Purists" for whatever that means. Everytime I read one of them attempt to bash the Macross fans, I laugh, cause you don't see a bunch of whiny butthurt people over here complaining (although, there maybe one or two). What I am glad for, is the fans that I have befriended on rt.com. Those don't seem to be enthralled by the sissified antics of what seems to be the new emo fandom. those that are my friends from that site know who they are, and know that the bond goes beyond some bootlegged, disect and paste job anime. It may have been what caused some of us to meet, but not what made it last. For those that remember the 241st (Started in 05 AX) there's roughly about 12-15 that are still around. Just a shame that the good rt fans get overshadowed by the psycho fanboy others. I'd be quite embarassed if I was on that side of the fence.

Simply amazing dioramas there. It's cool with all the attention to detail. I started on my fan racer. Probably will be done in about a month or so.

Out of that whole waste of time, I did think Alex was the best character. He seemed like the only character to have some cahones in the story. If anything, he seemed like a salvagable character. The idea of changing Aurora to Maia was a joke, and made no sense. I think that was done simply cause they wanted to. I think I was more upset with him dying cause he was the only good character, while the rest seemed like forced puppets in a flat story. If Robotech was to simply move out from the lingering strings, and create an in-depth story, characters, and even new mecha, I could support that. But the logic they are following will not do that. And unfortunately, for a good, sound money making reason.

the problem with the staff now, from what I see, is their lack, or inability to create characters deep enough to sustain the interests of the fans. Marcus Rush??? That's seriously a good laugh. I understand what you are saying, and it's sad that they believe they can build their franchise around such a shallow character. If that was their goal, they've failed miserably. The people that stuck out of the movie, if even just slightly, was the staples that are already in place from the first series. Scott, Marlene, and of course, the geriatric version of Rick the Hunterrrrr. What's bad with the feature film approach, is that you only have those 90 minutes to create a deep character, which can be done. But the problem with RTSC, is that there are so many other things that need to be covered, the character development got squashed down to almost nothing. Without a series, the franchise doesn't have the ability to expand the characters like a series can.

The Robotech Franchise's biggest problem is that it wants the Macross publicity without revisiting any of Macross, for the reasons of permission to use the designs in new production. I've been told by some of the staff many times that Macross is by far the best selling part of the franchise. Yet, if they completely cut the chord from it, they can't create a self-sustaining series or product. Did anyone else notice that not even the word Zentraedi wasn't used in Shadow Chronicles? You know why? The legal team wanted it left out so that they wouldn't have to worry about lawsuits. And it wasn't a problem in the comics, cause those are products, not derivitive works. All that too, has been told. Rick Hunter, as much as RT fans may either like or hate him, is a staple in a series that has kept him around far too long. The problem now is that fans are stuck with this character, and might not be able to adapt to a series without the Macross born character. That's a problem. The Macross franchise, on the otherhand, may have small tidbits of things that hold onto it from the older series, but you don't see the same old characters all the time. it reinvents, thus keeping a new look, instead of recycling. I'd probably feel more inclined to like Robotech if it reinvented itself in a whole new series and did away with it's umbilical chord, than still keep copied lineart in all it's series. Honestly, how much creativity really goes into creating something that has half of it already done for you? At least with the designs of the mecha and ships done, you'd think they would've come up with a compelling story that was cohesive, and deep, and had multi-dimensional characters with all that work done back in the early 80s. Anyways, thought I'd throw in my $0.02 for now in this ever increasing thread. If Robotech fans choose to enter in here, I think that's just fine. To come into this site with an open mind is a good thing. I'm sure it'd be a problem to just come in here with a bunch of nothing, and closed mindedness (I'm sure that's not a word, so sue me ) I thought your buddy Pizza the Hutt was coming over here to speak his mind, Seto??? What happened to that?

Welcome to the boards, Whamhammer. I remember when Save came to these boards, probably about the same time I did. I do remember all the remarks he got with the name. Anyways, years later, and here he is still going strong in the Macross forums. The good thing about Macross is that the universe has continued to expand, and continues to create and produce toys, shows, and so on. While I am a Robotech fan as well, I had no problems adapting here as well. Being a Macross fan first before watching Robotech, it was easy for me. I guess what I'm saying here is, it seems Whamhammer is here to share his experience, and see what this "Macross" thing is all about. I did read the link to the license debate on rt.com, and woah, I mean WOAH!!! PTH doesn't seem to have the inteligence to know that Space Fold and Protoculture aren't trademarked or licensed titles, and seems to have free reign on bashing everyone who simply disagrees. Somehow, it's blasphemy to have a staff member shed some light on the issue at hand, and the mods aren't doing the job, and spreading some fanrumor as fact. Even reading some of the diehard RT fans try to correct the situation is getting ugly over there. Sad, it's a civil war over there. LOL

So, is there any pics of the tourney, and who won??? -
Just got confirmation of my two copies from Kinokuniya Los Angeles. This is definitely something to add to the Mospeada library.

After all the good times I was waiting to have here, I'm not gonna make it as well. I have some final arrangements to make with family, and it's just not the day for me to be doing much else. Sorry guys. -
Bee, looks great. Perhaps when we get our house, my wife and I will do the same thing. The only problem is that I now have so many toys, that I'll need an extra 3 detolfs on top of the 3 I have to store it all. I can no longer walk into my extra room. If it was clean, I'd take a pic of the collection, but it's in shambles now, and everything is in a box. I like the room though, great job on keeping it nice and clean.

Here's the problem with the information given to these "other lawyers" not working for HG. The saying "garbage in, garbage out" applies. For example, if I ask the question, "If a company owns all the rights and designs of a certain product, can they use that stuff in anything they want," any lawyer would most likely say, "of course they could." However, the problem is in the question. Now, ask it in a different, correct perspective: "If a company owns merchandising rights of a certain design and product, but not for derivitive works, could they use those same designs for a movie or new show?" The answer would probably be different. The rulings of the court decision aren't top secret, and are somewhat public domain for anyone willing to do the searching, from what I've gathered. And Memo, I'm deducting 10 Robotech points from you for not knowing Dana was in Southern Cross (Role-playing game reference).

There still are people there that I get along with, and I still get to look at the officer forums there from a friend, so I do keep in contact with a few people there. As for Seto, and the others (including myself), I don't think it's a fascination. While there are a few good people on the site that are still very cool, it seems to be the awkward fanboys that spoil it for the rest. What's sad is that over the years, there's been quite a few fanboys that have given all the rt fans a very bad name. I do talk to Memo from time to time, and while I don't talk about the license debates and all, it seems like his argument and belief is directed in the wrong area. Perhaps just rephrasing his statements would clear up his thoughts there. The people who keep whining about using the original designs for the LAM??? Well, c'mon. Put 1 and 1 together and get 2. HG isn't using the Macross designs in new works cause they can't, so why would WB do it? Right there, instead of the back and forth arguing that they have been trying to make that HG can use all the designs for anything, perhaps they need to get those clues. BTW, for RT fans reading, toys and merchandise is different from stories and new productions, don't get that mixed up in your argument that has already been proven wrong.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Vol. 1

Just picked up my 2 copies from Kinokuniya Los Angeles. Awesome book. Some of the pics look so damn realistic, you'd think it was a real jet. The info and details are quite good. Nothing super new as far as info, but a very well put together book. -
What is funny is that rt fans who support the falacy that HG owns all the rights and designs to SDF Macross are under the assumption that WB is going to use those designs in the movie. Even if they could use them, they wouldn't. Why would they cut part of their potential profit in Japan by using the old designs? It boggles my mind how there's just no thought or forsight into what they think will happen, or what could happen. There is a reason why the staff doesn't get involved in those conversations. It's because they don't want to get involved in owning up to facts. Again, what I see is a bunch of RT fans attempting to translate a semi-complicated ruling into their own interpretation, and they're completely getting it wrong. While it's sad, I simply could careless. For those that are interested in truth, good for you, but for people that prefer the rose colored goggles, ignorance is bliss, I guess.
-
In response to all the hoopla over on rt.com, Seto dousing the threads with facts and irrefutable truths helps prove the points that we've all made. I think it maybe easy to interpret those arguing with Seto in that thread as simply ignorant, not in a derogatory way. Simply, they just don't understand what intellectual property means, and probably just simplify the rulings and translate it wrong. Court rulings are often complicated, and full of $0.25 words. The real problem is that you have a bunch of RT fans that (not intended to attack anyone) have $0.05 vocabulary. What's really sad is those that truly understand the rulings, but choose to believe the hype. Either way, Seto has proven not to be a punching bag, but moreso a help to those that seek help, and an educator on their forums. If that's what they don't want, there are always a few that appreciate it. As far as continuing the argument though, it seems more like they are trying to bait you. Why else would they let people make personal attacks, and not say anything, and let it go with free reign? It's been a practice done before over there. If you want to keep your account over there, just be careful not to engage in the game. Oh, and to answer the question, they are not on the payroll, they work for the ever so vital useless info about Shadow Rising and the RLAM.

As of late, been listening to Slipknot, and some old school Bad Religion, A.F.I., and Pennywise.

Hot Damn, this will be my first purchase of a GBP set since the old 1/55s way back in the day. **Mouth Watering**

The story was quite easy to understand, even without watching Robotech or Macross. I'm going off of a group of friends that watched it about a year ago for the first time. The backstory is spelled out enough to get the idea of what is going on. As far as being fragmented, I can understand that. That subjective opinion has been voiced before. I guess it really depends on each individual. I've always been under the belief too, that the movie was always a "thank you" to the fans, and just a supplement, not the be all, end all for that time segment of the Macross franchise. If you thought this movie was fragmented and whatnot, I hope you watched the classic Akira...now that's a mindf!@k, if I ever saw one.

I've been reading through the Rt.com forums, as well as here, and I started seeing this debate about "HG can use any design they want" crap. What occurred to me is this...why the hell would they? Knowing that Japan is a huge market for Live action Movies in general, it makes sense that WB wouldn't use any of the original designs, even if they had free reign to do so. If they did, they probably wouldn't be able to show it in Japan, thus killing part of their profits. I was also thinking, how is Japan going to welcome the LAM should it be made? Are they going to even recognize it as a Macross copy, or maybe not even care? Or, will they truly love it? The idea of fanboyism convoluting the facts to promote their beliefs is going to persevere no matter how many times you present the plain facts. They can't take in the facts that seem to contradict their world. It's been something I've had the pleasure of laughing at for many years on various forums, as I'm sure we all have. What does make this thread interesting is the fact that we know the lines that were drawn in the courts years ago, yet so much of it is still debated by people who simply don't have all the facts. I don't pretend to have them all either, as do many of the Robotech fans. It is good to read some of the posts here that spell it out from a most objective and factual point.

I ordered 2 copies at Kinokuniya Los Angeles on 7/22/09. Supposedly, I was told 2 weeks for shipment, so I'm hoping by this friday. It came out to just over $40 for each. Don't know what day you tried to order from them, but they were happy to put the order through for me. Will let you know if I get mine. -

that sounds like a lot of fun. Just hope I can get the day off. -
I just watched Macr Zero again (dubbed) and is it me, or does Edgar have an odd voice to go with the character? Doesn't seem like that voice fits the character, however, the mixing and work you put in Hikuro is decent. It's good to see what you got so far.

Hey guys, thanks for the well wishes and condolences. I appreciate it. As for the temperature here in SoCal, it's a bit warmer, but hasn't peaked above 90. My apartment is burning hot though, and it makes for a good weight loss program.
-
OK, so it took me awhile to get back on here, but yeah, I've been having problems for several days, mainly in the morning, early afternoons. Whatever is going on, hope it fixes itself.

No, not good at all. There was a passing in the family, so everything was put on hold, and still is, but while I'm not working for the time being. I'm trying to get back to some of the things I've put on hold.
