  1. I'm hoping for the chance to start working on inserting translated dialogue onto issue 2 soon. Being able to read it in English just makes the story Macross the First even more special when dealing with new Mikimoto art. While being able to find some of the scans on the net is cool, for those "considering" buying them, let me just say that owning the issues and having it in hand is well worth the trouble, and money. I buy the Gundam Ace as well, and these niche Ace books are really awesome.
  2. I know it may not be worth their time, but I was thinking heavily about this...How cool would it be if Bandai released Macross Frontier just as they did, but put english sub on it? I know they'd still have the region code thing, but what a way to get around the blockade. Imagine if they did that with the blu-rays. Those are region free. While it may not be a big deal for them, how many more fans would buy the product via online e-tailers to have the official version, with all the extras, and english subs? It'd be a good extra amount of cash, probably well worth the cost of just adding subtitles as an extra feature. I wonder if it's possible to write to Bandai, and ask about it. Edited for mispelling in a crucial area
  3. Man, put me down for the Garfish kit. I'd love to have one of those. Pleeeaaassse!!!
  4. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens with that. I know Memo overall has been very helpful with the fandom, and does a lot for the staff, but the last few weeks have shown not too good for the mods in general. Letting someone verbally attack other members, then themselves calling out members like that is something that would've gotten anyone else who was a mod, demoted. That's not even counting the misrepresentation of facts.
  5. The same rights that HG has as far as the designs would be transferred to WB. Those rights would be grandfathered to WB. Based on the rulings though, WB would not be able to use the VF-1, the SDF-1 or any of the Macross designs as they are shown in the Macross series, or the lineart. However, creating designs based off of those does seem feasible, and goes along with the idea of them "reimagining" the series. It'd be interesting if they can even use the terms, such as Zentraedi or not. Perhaps WB will scrutinize the rulings much more closely, and maybe even strike deals with BW/SN if need be.
  6. Yeah, that won't happen. Whenever Tommy goes someplace, Memo goes as well. So, they won't do anything about it. Not only that, but Memo is the unpaid marketing and fan president I guess. So, what will probably happen is as you said later on....nothing. I'd say, let it be so. It only proves their contradictions and double-mindedness of the staff yet again. Also, Memo is perfect for them. He doesn't ask questions, and just takes things at face value. For HG, that is the perfect fan. BTW, was that thread about the licensing ever locked or squashed? Last I checked, the subject was changed quite quickly, as probably directed by the staff.
  7. Hmmm, I still have access to those forums, and you're not missing anything. There is nothing secretive going on there. They talk about contest ideas from time to time (once a year), and sometimes talk about what the next quiz or poll questions will be. You know what probably helps is the fact that it's such a hot topic over here and there, and if they banned you for being right, it'd make them look even worse than they already do. I guess for me, they felt they had to ban me, cause maybe I know too much. Whatever!!! You educate them more than heckle, so they won't ban you.
  8. I certainly didn't know. If you've been trying to get banned, you haven't been trying hard enough. Try disagreeing with the mods. That's when they'll attack, then ban you. I keep my copy of RTSC that I won at their launch party in February next to the DVD of Robotech:The Untold Story, and then the entire Macross collection. On the other side of that, is my Gunbuster DVDs, and Full Metal Alchemists DVDs.
  9. HappyPenguins, think of it as graduation. You just moved up and now don't have a $h!tBrick to hold you down. Unlike Save, when they demoted me, then banned me for trivial reasons, I did the opposite. I spilled the beans about stuff I knew. Them banning me let me be able to feel free, as Save described, and while I was a Macross fan first, it helped me to not have to divide my interests. I will say it again, Leave the ignorant live in the happy bubble they have. At least it's great to know that most of the friends I had on their have pulled out, and no longer have any interest in RT.
  10. Just got a copy of it from Kinokuniya today. Very cool stats and pics of the various Valkyries they have inside the book. It's a good buy. The cover art is awesome as well.
  11. This is a good point. What I was referring to, was that those that don't understand the court rulings would easily be misunderstood, is say, by some strange turn of events, WB strikes a deal with BW/SN to be able to use the lineart for works in the Robotech movie. I can just see all the naive fanboy rants, "see HG did own all of it, and they can use any bit of it they want", while again, being misled, and not understanding that this isn't a HG deal, but a WB deal that was struck. Wether that happens exactly as I state it, or some other, smaller deal gets worked out, the facts would again, be misinterpreted. That's why I don't try to argue with the fans over there. It's like trying to make a dead horse walk.
  12. Yeah, usually it's the warmer water for the Hase kits. For some reason, the decals are on very thick covered paper, and when put in cold water, the solution to take the decals off of has a hard time dissolving. Warm water, slightly on the hotter side, does the trick perfectly.
  13. Yeah, in the last thread, I pointed out the situation where he blamed it on young Korean animators, which was basically throwing them under the bus for designs that they signed off as approved. The animators don't do stuff under their own accord, and especially when it comes ot characters, those are pre-approved by the people running the entire thing, namely, HG. And, what you say Gubaba, seems pretty accurate. This whole pissing match over something that has already been defined is simply ridiculous. The only thing that could really fuel a false sense of fact, is if WB goes to BW and gets permission to use the designs, or names. While HG doesn't use them, perhaps WB would be able to do business with them and get that expressed permission. I'm sure to the fans not "pervy" (LOL) to how the legalities work, they'll translate that as HG being able to use all the Macross designs in their productions, even though it would be WB. Not saying this would happen, but that could be a possible outcome, far-fetched or not. Ugh, what a mess. While it's semi-amusing to see some alpha-male fest of who can interpret and manipulate court rulings the best, While the staff do what they can to protect themselves and their image, I wonder if they realize that their extensions are degrading it for them. Oh well, people are people.
  14. If ignorance is a good representation of the fandom, I'm glad I only see it from the outside. Sometimes, it seems like the blind leading the blind, no it is!!! What I find amusing is that for Maverick, the facts don't add up right for him. Then, there's that kid Pizza the Hutt, who's only contribution to the thread, is "you got owned", "you're a troll", and a "you tell em" attitude. Ignorance breeds ignorance, and it's painting a bad picture for the staff and fans over there. The more diplomatic approach the mods could've taken is the simple, we agree to disagree, and "we'll just have to wait and see what happens". Even if they are wrong, at leastthey could've kept themselves from ruining more of rt's reputation. That's the route it should've gone, but instead, they've allowed themselves to get into argument, and to allow some stupid kid to keep talking over there. As I'm sure the staff and some fans read over here, if you really care about the Robotech franchise, save your other fans the trouble of looking bad, and put the false info to rest. It's pretty obvious that if HG could use more things, like the name Zentraedi, and lineart in their new productions, they would've. Why would their legal team expressly say not to use anything Macross related in RTSC, which did occur? I don't know, maybe cause they CAN'T! I'm not gonna spend time trying to call out the staff there, but they need to either shed light on the subject (not from the spin side of it that is always done), or tell the mods to stay away from the subject. The mods are an extension of themselves, so what they say, is what the staff is going to say, and right now, it's making the entire staff of Robotech look very bad.
  15. You know what's funny about that??? It's the fact that there's more and more of that coming from them than ever before. The sad thing is, it really makes them look bad, because it puts them in defense mode, and most people realize that when you really have to defend yourself, there's something you are trying to defend. I've seen on other sites, this site get thrashed to pieces, and still has some of those same people on here. But, as it stands, no one makes a big fuss because this site doesn't need to be defended against. It stands on its own, and for the most part, its members have the confidence in knowing that this site that's dedicated to the franchise of Macross, can stand on it' own, just like the franchise itself. If you're gonna get banned from a site because they are so fragile in regards to opinions that go against what they feel, they're in the wrong business for sure. I'd say grow some balls, but that would imply that they even had that ability. That goes for the people running the site. I don't think Tommy gives a flying flip about the negative comments, but it seems the other two can't stand it, at least it appears that way. I've told Tommy back in the day when things sucked, as did my wife, and back then, he seemed to understand that it was done with constructive criticism attached. The other ones, and many of the fans, take constructive criticism as a personal attack, and label those, a "Macross Purists" for whatever that means. Everytime I read one of them attempt to bash the Macross fans, I laugh, cause you don't see a bunch of whiny butthurt people over here complaining (although, there maybe one or two). What I am glad for, is the fans that I have befriended on rt.com. Those don't seem to be enthralled by the sissified antics of what seems to be the new emo fandom. those that are my friends from that site know who they are, and know that the bond goes beyond some bootlegged, disect and paste job anime. It may have been what caused some of us to meet, but not what made it last. For those that remember the 241st (Started in 05 AX) there's roughly about 12-15 that are still around. Just a shame that the good rt fans get overshadowed by the psycho fanboy others. I'd be quite embarassed if I was on that side of the fence.
  16. Simply amazing dioramas there. It's cool with all the attention to detail. I started on my fan racer. Probably will be done in about a month or so.
  17. Out of that whole waste of time, I did think Alex was the best character. He seemed like the only character to have some cahones in the story. If anything, he seemed like a salvagable character. The idea of changing Aurora to Maia was a joke, and made no sense. I think that was done simply cause they wanted to. I think I was more upset with him dying cause he was the only good character, while the rest seemed like forced puppets in a flat story. If Robotech was to simply move out from the lingering strings, and create an in-depth story, characters, and even new mecha, I could support that. But the logic they are following will not do that. And unfortunately, for a good, sound money making reason.
  18. the problem with the staff now, from what I see, is their lack, or inability to create characters deep enough to sustain the interests of the fans. Marcus Rush??? That's seriously a good laugh. I understand what you are saying, and it's sad that they believe they can build their franchise around such a shallow character. If that was their goal, they've failed miserably. The people that stuck out of the movie, if even just slightly, was the staples that are already in place from the first series. Scott, Marlene, and of course, the geriatric version of Rick the Hunterrrrr. What's bad with the feature film approach, is that you only have those 90 minutes to create a deep character, which can be done. But the problem with RTSC, is that there are so many other things that need to be covered, the character development got squashed down to almost nothing. Without a series, the franchise doesn't have the ability to expand the characters like a series can.
  19. The Robotech Franchise's biggest problem is that it wants the Macross publicity without revisiting any of Macross, for the reasons of permission to use the designs in new production. I've been told by some of the staff many times that Macross is by far the best selling part of the franchise. Yet, if they completely cut the chord from it, they can't create a self-sustaining series or product. Did anyone else notice that not even the word Zentraedi wasn't used in Shadow Chronicles? You know why? The legal team wanted it left out so that they wouldn't have to worry about lawsuits. And it wasn't a problem in the comics, cause those are products, not derivitive works. All that too, has been told. Rick Hunter, as much as RT fans may either like or hate him, is a staple in a series that has kept him around far too long. The problem now is that fans are stuck with this character, and might not be able to adapt to a series without the Macross born character. That's a problem. The Macross franchise, on the otherhand, may have small tidbits of things that hold onto it from the older series, but you don't see the same old characters all the time. it reinvents, thus keeping a new look, instead of recycling. I'd probably feel more inclined to like Robotech if it reinvented itself in a whole new series and did away with it's umbilical chord, than still keep copied lineart in all it's series. Honestly, how much creativity really goes into creating something that has half of it already done for you? At least with the designs of the mecha and ships done, you'd think they would've come up with a compelling story that was cohesive, and deep, and had multi-dimensional characters with all that work done back in the early 80s. Anyways, thought I'd throw in my $0.02 for now in this ever increasing thread. If Robotech fans choose to enter in here, I think that's just fine. To come into this site with an open mind is a good thing. I'm sure it'd be a problem to just come in here with a bunch of nothing, and closed mindedness (I'm sure that's not a word, so sue me ) I thought your buddy Pizza the Hutt was coming over here to speak his mind, Seto??? What happened to that?
  20. Welcome to the boards, Whamhammer. I remember when Save came to these boards, probably about the same time I did. I do remember all the remarks he got with the name. Anyways, years later, and here he is still going strong in the Macross forums. The good thing about Macross is that the universe has continued to expand, and continues to create and produce toys, shows, and so on. While I am a Robotech fan as well, I had no problems adapting here as well. Being a Macross fan first before watching Robotech, it was easy for me. I guess what I'm saying here is, it seems Whamhammer is here to share his experience, and see what this "Macross" thing is all about. I did read the link to the license debate on rt.com, and woah, I mean WOAH!!! PTH doesn't seem to have the inteligence to know that Space Fold and Protoculture aren't trademarked or licensed titles, and seems to have free reign on bashing everyone who simply disagrees. Somehow, it's blasphemy to have a staff member shed some light on the issue at hand, and the mods aren't doing the job, and spreading some fanrumor as fact. Even reading some of the diehard RT fans try to correct the situation is getting ugly over there. Sad, it's a civil war over there. LOL
  21. So, is there any pics of the tourney, and who won???
  22. Just got confirmation of my two copies from Kinokuniya Los Angeles. This is definitely something to add to the Mospeada library.
  23. After all the good times I was waiting to have here, I'm not gonna make it as well. I have some final arrangements to make with family, and it's just not the day for me to be doing much else. Sorry guys.
  24. Bee, looks great. Perhaps when we get our house, my wife and I will do the same thing. The only problem is that I now have so many toys, that I'll need an extra 3 detolfs on top of the 3 I have to store it all. I can no longer walk into my extra room. If it was clean, I'd take a pic of the collection, but it's in shambles now, and everything is in a box. I like the room though, great job on keeping it nice and clean.
  25. Here's the problem with the information given to these "other lawyers" not working for HG. The saying "garbage in, garbage out" applies. For example, if I ask the question, "If a company owns all the rights and designs of a certain product, can they use that stuff in anything they want," any lawyer would most likely say, "of course they could." However, the problem is in the question. Now, ask it in a different, correct perspective: "If a company owns merchandising rights of a certain design and product, but not for derivitive works, could they use those same designs for a movie or new show?" The answer would probably be different. The rulings of the court decision aren't top secret, and are somewhat public domain for anyone willing to do the searching, from what I've gathered. And Memo, I'm deducting 10 Robotech points from you for not knowing Dana was in Southern Cross (Role-playing game reference).
