So, I went here, http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/re...mp;pagenumber=9, and realized that it finally got locked. Maverlick did the wise thing in saving some mod face there, as it was looking really bad for them. It seems Maverick understood enough, but not enough to know what the real argument was about. He seemed like someone jumping into an argument about apples, and arguing about some oranges in the bunch. Memo, Hmmm, I may be cool with Memo, but if you read on here Memo, I think you're reading too far into what HG has said. What they've always said is true, they do own the rights to all things Robotech, which includes all the footage used in its making. Also, they have the ability to use the designs for product, i.e. rpg books, games, comics, toys, etc. That does not equate to making new works using those same designs. That intellectual property win, is strictly for BW, and does stretch over here. It doesn't change the contracts that Tats and HG made, probably because those never included new works using the old desings from SDF:Macross. Memo, since I'm not on rt.com, I hope you read here. You and I have talked to many people who "know" about this stuff, and while I see where you are basing the claim from, your outcome of it is wrong. HG by themselves will not make or use Macross designs in any new film, movie or whatnot, unless a new deal was made, and so far, that hasn't happened. As it stands now, HG can "own all things Robotech." While vague, it simply states just that... they own whatever used in original Robotech, not for new stuff. It really doesn't help out too much for either side, and there is no "winner" in all this. HG is left without being able to use any more of it's most popular series for new works, and BW, while a huge success, is not able to brach out outside it's borders. I think back on what I heard about the trip HG took to Japan to bring Macross over here, and what they tried to do, and I can understand why BW would not want to do business with them. Things could've been different, but the coin fell the way it did, and here we are today. Oh well, I find it funny that it only took this long to finally lock that stupid thread linked up above.

You know what they'll prbably do is take Mechwarrior's design and use it in the LAM. That way, they will claim it looks nothing like the Tomahawk, and get around the design. (Sarcasm On) It all makes sense now, Re-envisioning Macross is OK for only them, too. Maybe they have the rights to anything that looks like it could be in SDF:Macross (Sarcasm Off)

If I had a site up, I'd keep it up. It seems like another scare tactic that is pissing off more people than protecting any implied rights they do, or think they have. They're gonn run themselves into a corner one day, where they don't have enough fans, but enough "haters" or "naysayers" (the terms HG and the fans like to use) to maybe pull the plug.

Man, the power of those Shrooms,,, I mean, Protoculture. It boost your Verytech, powers your ships fold systems, creates life, and puts your libido in high gear! On a more serious note, a lot of what Robotech did back then to make the series tie in was pretty good. Like Whamhammer explained a good portion of the questionable things can be explained off fairly decently. As a kid, it didn't really matter, cause we were all getting something different for its time. As of now, I've tried to do away with explaining it all just to make it fit, because there are some areas where it simply doesn't. It also doesn't help that they continue that confusing way of things with RTSC, i.e. why is Maia not named Aurora? I know in Macross Max and Milia had what, 7 daughters, but RTSC just comes out of left field with this new daughter that has no back story. She's just there. In trying to be differnt (somewhat) from the originals, they sucked out a good possible backstory. Don't know if it would've saved the movie (probably not), but at least there would've been something to fall back on.

I believe it was Rem, Zor's clone that got into that trashy American 24 hr 7-11 version of a fake Minmay. Robotech lost a lot of points when I read that book, but it's been a lonnnnng time.

Maybe that raise will be put to more use than simply paying bills I'm saving change, if you can believe that, and up to about $200 in change. Hopefully by preorder time, I'll have enough to get one through. Man, this will be one of those rare things when it's out...Wonder if the price is gonna get higher as it gets close to release.

You know, I'm just glad that Robotech created anime. Where would the world be without Robotech creating anime??? That's good, you're hired buddy for song selection. Also, don't forget to hire Linkin Park. I can't believe TF ripped off Robotech's idea of using them for a song in their movie. They should write more C&D orders right now.
-
No, it was never in any Macross series, anime, etc. Nor was the TH ever used, but they have become so popular, that MW fans have taken matters into their own hands to make the customs. Then it was Hasegawa that made the MG 1/72 model kit. Hopefully a Yamato 1/60 will come out.

Isn't there some hip-hop dance song that says some like "Gimme more Gasolina?" Perhaps that'll be the big track to the new RTLAM??? The guys and girls makeout, and the track starts to play, then the aliens (not Zentraedi) start dancing and throwing the proverbial "alien benjamins" in the air while drinking cristal. Wow, you guys, I so can't wait to watch this movie.

While I'm still waiting for my Beagle Ley to come in, I will say the Beagle toys are by far the most accurate, and bad@$$ of all the toys. I like the betas too, but these Beagles are just simply amazing. Too bad, cause the Fuke was the one I wanted most, and the Yellow was the one I wanted 2nd most. The Stick and Ley are always made. I have the Megahouse ones already.

I do have to say, that labelling RT fans as "Not human", and "Robotech drones" or whatnot, will definitely invalidate your argument from the word go. While you say that, there's enough other people saying the same thing about die-hard Macross fans, and probably have the same disdain for us as well. I do find it amusing to see people who get so bent out of shape because someone likes something they don't. While I am not much of a Robotech fan like I used to, I can still be considered a fan. Something that has seemed to bug me, is when Robotech fans trash Macross cause it's not Robotech, and Macross fans trash Robotech because it still has ties to Macross. It's that thinking from both sides, that make those people into "drones". I do understand that there are some RT fans that are just blind, and naive, and simply act as RT drones, but just because someone would like to see a good Robotech series, film, or whatnot, I doubt that qualifies. In the past couple pages here, I'd like to comment on a couple things. For one, I do think Robotech is undeniably tied to Macross, for good or bad, it is what it is. As long as the same characters are mentioned, shown, etc., Macross will always be looked back upon as reference to what Robotech is making itself now. I know HG has tried to use Mospeada as the anchor for it's new films, but how successful do you think they'll be if they moved away from all things Macross (characters, implied Zentraedi offspring, on and on)? Pete also brought up an interesting point...Robotech itself isn't the evil that some Macross fans make it out to be. Heck, most here probably would have no clue about all this stuff if it wasn't for Robotech. What HAS made Robotech ugly, is basically the choices they've made in screwing the Macross fans, the lies, spin, so-on, and so-forth. What doesn't help is the handful of rotten apples that do spoil it for them even more, and perpetuate the "war" of words between both sets of fans. Oh, and to answer the question of why Dolza makes reference to protoculture when Rick and Lisa kiss, most of the VA's had to improvise lines, and that was one of the improvised lines I believe. I've been lucky to talk with a few of the VAs, and much of the voice sessions were full of improvisation. From what I've gathered, it ended up being a fill in, that ended up moving into other things, like the power of protoculture when Miriya holds up baby Dana. Is it goofy, hell yeah, but back then, I was just happy to see a version of Macross come over. I was a Macross fan first, thanks to Japanese friends in elementary school.

I wasn't implying that there was anything legally wrong with what they were saying, but moreso in the context in which they say it. They say it in a way that is vague, as to give a bunch of people the ideas that lead us to the debate/debacle we keep going back to. It's probably done intentionally as to tactfully mislead those that don't understand the legal verbage. Just look through youtube at all the various convention Q&A's HG staff do at their panels...they do it in many of the questions that are very direct, they skirt around the question, and shift it to other examples. Classic spin cycle.

Sometimes, the best info is not from sources that try to simplify things, especially when they are tied to making profits from the sale of DVDs. After reading their "simplified version", they only seemed to screw up the rulings, and made a mess of people who are only just now trying to get involved in this discussion (simply not a debate). It also is a great disservice that HG makes these stupid remarks like "We own anything that is Robotech" or "We can use anything Robotech". All it does is just create more ignorance of their fans that cannot comprehend the rulings on their own. And to be honest, those documents aren't too understandable for the masses. I guess it's one thing if it's just someone misunderstanding, but the more this whole thing persist, the more it looks like just sheer avoidance of the facts. I hope that's not the case.

OK, back from Vegas and a lot of revelry... If you look through some pics maybe on rt.com, definitely in the art of RTSC, they have plenty of pics with Tommy and a few others going to Tats, and/or having Tats coming here. Basically, HG got a bid from Tats to do RTSC, and when they found it too much for their budget, they bailed out and picked the B-team animator house DR movie. B team cause they mostly specialize in in between animation of the key shots. I always found it funny that they made sure to put those pics in the book, as if Tats actually did anything with it. They did nothing at all. On another note, while I'm all up for reading and occasionally engaging in debate, the debate as to wether HG or Tats can create new derivatives based on BW/SN's designs or not is really old already. Is it that RT fans are equating the toys and video games to being able to use it in a new film? I don't know, but the facts are all there, and when read without biases and Robotech goggles, the decisions and rulings are spelled out quite well. I really don't see a debate regarding all this. If you think about it, there isn't a debate. The facts are there, all that I've seen is just arguing against peoples idea of how they'd like the facts to work for HG's favor. Sometimes if the person is open to being wrong, they'll see it, but most times, all it is, is just wasted typing.

From what I was reading, it appears that ADV is simply redircting their licenses and properties into smaller, sister companies that are owned by the CEO and whatnot. It may not affect them too much, but it's too early in the game to see. I know they burned bridges with Funimation when they didn't want Funimation involved in the production of Shadow Rising.
-
That guys complaint is funny. Since it's so vague, it doesn't really say if the complaint is merited. However, I wouldn't put it past HG. I've got some interesting stories of people they've really short changed and have not paid.

Still, the view of the mech in question doesn't look enough like a tomahawk. Just cause it has big canon arms and a missile launcher ont he top doesn't make it a copywright infringement. Then again, the scare tactic may work, and if it does, that's too bad. Either way, let HG piss off more people and burn more bridges. I don't think they'll be making games for HG, and they look like they can make a great mecha game. BURN THOSE BRIDGES BABY, BURN THEM ALL, YOU MOTHER %!@#ERS!!! (done in a very crazy Quentin Tarantino Movie manner)

It'll be good to see an HD version. I know you won't go back to editing your episode 1, but still think you should consider redoing a couple of the characters. But, as it is your work, my opinion is just that. I can definitely see the hard work put into it, and that's great to see. Awesome work on your part.

The anime models move so damn realistic, that's what's creepy/fascinating. I think it's quite awesome. I hope to see more

Does anyone have a frontal view of the mechwarrior mech in question??? from the 3/4 rear view, it looks like it has parts that function the same as a Tomahawk, but don't necessarily look like a Tomahawk. That's what HG needs to do, piss off more people over something trivial (this going off the fact I haven't seen the rest of the Mechwarrior design). If it looks too much the same, then I can't argue with that, but from what that site showed, it doesn't look like enough.

Pete, I agree. For the most part, I'm still a semi-fan of the Robotech from 85, from the standpoint that it brought over some great anime. As far as the ugliness that has gone on for quite sometime from the company, it has proven to sway quite a few once fans away. When I saw RTSC for the first time, I was content with it simply cause it was new. However, after it was over, it began to sink in how bad it was. But, as that is another discussion, when HG started silencing fans who didn't like the film, it became obvious that they knew they put out an inferior product. Then, more ugliness came out. Taking all that we know, what the staff has done, and what some fans have created, it's become a very unattractive franchise to follow. Maybe that'll change someday, but HG and some of their fans keep that ball rolling. Not all of them, cause there are some good people there, but as the saying goes, the few rotten apples spoil the bunch.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Damn you Beagle! Damn you Toynami! And Damn you EXO for saying that!!! That's it, I'm siding with the Inbit.
-
Yeah, sorry, meant sub. That's what happens when you get your eyes dialated for routine exame, and the s and d keys are close to each other, I meant sub, not dub. Rest assured, I wouldn't want a dub. I love the original voices.
-
Soooo, any update on this project? Are you still working on part 2, reworking part 1, hope it's still moving forward. Let me know if you need anymore extras for voices. I'm available.
-
Exo was right, Yune didn't sculpt the head, but it is based on his art. Either way, I do prefere the Beagle heads much better, especially for the Ley/Rand version. So much so, in fact, that I cancelled my MPC version so I could get the Beagle version. Now, the BBTS price of $149.99 is definitely a fire sale price. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the Fuke version. So much time went into it, I hope it's not vaporware at this point.
