  1. Yeah, what a bummer that he isn't in the "know". I picked all those up in one day, and the L.A. store has the Sheryl Nome visual book still available. Also got word that my copies of Macross Ace #3 are in, so I'll be getting those tomorrow. It's nice to work right next door to Little Tokyo. As for the guide book, I didn't see it there when I strolled in on my c7 (lunch break). I read your thread on translation, and I do have a question. Maybe it's been answered before, but what is the money paid used for? Also, for example, if only 5 people were interested in a translation, how much would each person have to put in? I'm curious, cause most translation stuff that people do here is free, and any translation I've received, and have worked on has been free. Not to pester, so please don't take it the wrong way, I'm just curious what the money is for?
  2. If Macross had decided to go back to SDF:Macross, and continue the story of Hikaru, Misa, Minmay, etc, how much of it would've been new story, and how much would've been overkill of the characters? I like the way the Macross franchise has started and ended their series. The formula they have in place is working, so, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  3. Finally, after the long wait, all 3 helmets have arrived!!! Needless to say, these replicas are huge, and having all 3 now is a lot of space...Not so much the helmets, but the boxes they come in. I'm thoroughly happy with them, and after inspection, all of mine are minty white, no flaws. I think my favorite is the Max Jenius helmet. I think these helmets however, are more 1/ 4/5 scale, or slightly larger than 1/1 scale. The size of them, even for a normal person, is quite big, and the width of them is quite large as well. Nevertheless, I love these things, and to have all 3 is wonderful. Awesome work, Yamato. Now, to work on the chest support system for the pilot.
  4. I do agree here, and HP, to answer your question, there is lots of fill-in story around, although I don't know how official it is. But there are books that fill the gaps as to what happens to many of the characters. As far as the Minmay, Misa, Hikaru triangle, I understand what you feel to some extent. For me, I'd like at least a synopsis of what happened, not necessarily the details, and a rehash of a love triangle that has already played out. While there was a satisfying feeling in seeing Rick Hunter in Sentinels, after reading the story, I couldn't stand what they turned Minmay into. It was just a lousy way to turn such a great cast of characters into less-than-epic characters. The idea that Hikaru, Misa, and Minmay just kinda disappear off into the sunset does leave me wanting to find out more, but I can understand Kawamori's intentions of not wanting to convolute the story. Still, I always thought there could've been some balance between what happened, and not destroying the story.
  5. Hmmm, not to be OT, but I love Ikki Tousen. For fan service, and a good fight here and there, that show is awesome. When it comes to RT, there are many things I can say about it's current position, and how it's not going to expand or grow like the propaganda says, but just by virtue of the fact that their current medium of Broadcast is through feature presentations, that's already gonna limit them from growing fans. One thing I thought of, is if they had such marketability, why is it they can't get a Robotech series on T.V.? I know they would've liked to. I know Kevin McKeever had a hard-on for Fox, and bugged them to no end to see Robotech as a viable product. As you can all see, it didn't make it to television, so there you go. Anyways, at this point, it seems the only thing Robotech has become is even more of a chop shop. It's now just bits of incoherent micro sized pieces of 3 anime, and that's it. Robotech isn't even anime anymore, in the true sense of the word.
  6. I don't completely invalidate Robotech at all, and label it a bad show by any means. What it did was give a lot of people a love for anime, especially mecha, and brought a lot of people to these boards. Robotech had it's merits. Whatreally is the dividing line, is the incarnations post 1990, that everything goes down hill. You can probably date it earlier, but I'm just going off quick memory here. Anyways, Robotech, and the way it's been moving, and treating its fans, should just go quietly in the night. Even the age when Robotech was pounding out comics all over the place is better than what is going on over there now.
  7. Then you may want to get the Shoji Kawamori Mecha design book. It's got some in color, but I'm afraid what you're looking for, isn't a big selection. As far as blk and wht (assuming that's the B&W) that's an odd request. The best lineart you'll find is all gonna be in non-color.
  8. I'd ask what's wrong with them, but that's too easy of an answer. I don't think Maverick and co are on some big conspiracy to try to keep the fans interested in something so unrelated to Robotech. I think they're just over-zealous RT elitists, who want to tie everything that's good in the world to Robotech. It's naive, lame, devoid of any intelligence, flat out stupid, but whatever, it makes them happy thinking about it. While the news is cool, no doubt about that, I don't see what talks about the decade to come, and the change in television programming has to do with a franchise that isn't even planning to air their future productions on it.
  9. No, I bought the FX DVDs a lonnnnng time ago, and watched them about 3 years ago. To be honest, I don't remember too much about it. I confess, I had some fun watching it, and making fun of the bad translations. Since I've been making DVDs of the new remastered w/ subs, it's been like watching all over again. I'll watch ep. 2 tonight then.
  10. That looks like it's from the Pachinko game. Man, gotta get that. We'll see if I can get one before MW con 2010.
  11. Wow, so much talking for ep. 1 only. I'll jump in this group action. As far as ep.1 synopsis, it looks like it's been well covered, so I won't go there. My thoughts of ep. 1, well, not much of it really impressed me, but it left enough to want to watch ep.2. The part of this that really got me excited was seeing Max Jenius in this. Realizing that he has a part in all this is exciting. As for the plot of the first episode, it kinda leaves a WTF at first, but you gotta love seeing mecha action so early in a series. I'll be watching it again tonight. What day are we watching ep. 2?
  12. Is the patch for disc 9's subs out yet? I got 8, 10-16 now. thank you guys for your dedication. If you guys were close, I'd buy you a beer.
  13. If I get this suit done in time, and my band isn't playing that day, or even if, I may have to bring in the thing. Just hoping the end product comes out good. Still have my helmets stuck in customs.
  14. When I was there, they had the Sheryl Nome artbook, the new False Diva Guidebook, Newtype featuring Macross F:False Diva and a vocal CD of the characters, an Macross the First (which I had to ask about). If you go back, go to the counter and ask them there. When I emailed them, they said they had it in stock. That's where I ordered my 3 copies of Macross Ace 3.
  15. I wasn't considering mass producing them at all, but maybe it'll work for a small number of people. As for the Ipod thing, it's just an idea thrown out there, and it would be hidden inside the life support system. The red light indicator will also light up as well. Anyways, it's not just gonna be the chest piece, but the arms pieces, belt (if there is one) and the leg pieces. I think I have enough lineart to start making it once I get the material to make it. BTW, my helmets are freaking stuck in customs cause they all got sent at the same time.
  16. Went to Kinokuniya today and picked up 2 copies of Macross the First Manga Vol.1 Have a couple issues of vol. 3 of Mac Ace on order from Kinokuniya as well. Man, I've spent a lot of money on books there, lately.
  17. I saw the Astro Boy film, and it's actually quite good. I think the problem is that the average person with kids has all sorts of bigger movie titles to take them to. When I was in the theater, I heard one lady asking a friend if the movie was a pixar one, when the other lady said no, she didn't seem interested all-of-a sudden. Her kids seemed to have loved it though. I wonder if that is a general consensus. Either way, while I did like the story and was happy to watch it, the fact is, it still kinda failed. I wonder if that will have more bearing on a LAM getting made. Probably not, cause they're probably still line sighted on the success of Bayformers2, and are gonna try to follow that formula. I think either way, the movie seems damned if they follow that formula by the fans, damned if they don't possibly by sales. Still such a long way off from being made.
  18. It's a hard choice, cause I'd like one, and for option 2, I'd have to say that or something else, not this or anything but... After seeing the Pachinko animation, a redone SDF: Macross would be off the charts, but at the same time, my mind likes seeing the new, and the pushing of boundaries that Macross does.
  19. No, I'm designing it w/ the help of a mechanical engineer. I'm more of a semi electrical engineer, so we're gonna work on it for a personal project. Nice Roy helmet. I have all 3 arriving on Friday, so I have my office all cleaned up to put them in.
  20. If I remember clearly (which is quite funny), is that Kevin kept up this idea that Robotech was gonna be produced slowly so that they can make a quality movie (as if HG is actually working on a WB movie). In his "genius" reasoning, God forbid that they would rush it, and it'd turn out like Transformers 2. I think this is where Maverick took that and interpreted it as meaning that TF2 was rushed due to Robotech. To Kevin's poor credit, he doesn't take into account that the TF2 movie can safely be assumed to not have been made for a super deep story, but to make money. And make money it did. While I wouldn't exonerate Maverick LSC for his asinine posts, somehow, it makes a lot of sense when HG's self proclaimed PR, marketing, or whatever he is now, McKeever makes stupid comparisons of a Robotech movie that doesn't even have a green light to TF2.
  21. Weren't the rt fans getting banned for fan speculation??? This is by far, one of the more retarded posts from a mod I've read in awhile. First off, what would make him think that Paramount is scared of Robotech? The trend of robot movies has been good to Paramount, but WB banking on a series that is not as well known is questionalble at best. I'd be willing to bet the farm that Paramount's decisions to produce Transformers at the rate they are has nothing to do with Robotech. I find it laughable that these RT elitists believe that Robotech has that much power, and that it influences the movie industry that much. C'mon, get a clue guys.
  22. What I'm going off of is the fact that when I watch anime titles (and I watch a lot), the english terms and slang is so far different from what the Japanese intended. I understand why, but many times, the intent gets lost. Now, add that to Macross and it's specific situation. What if they worked out a deal to bring over their DVDs and shows? I know it sounds great, and it does to some point, but how much would BW/SN have to bend to what the western fanbase would expect, and what distributors over here would want? While it's possible that it could be no difference, there could've been a big difference. I do like the movement by a few distributors who believe in keeping the titles as close to original as possible. I think that is a trend that was brought on by anime watchers over the years, and the backlash certain shows started to get for butchering the originals to death. It's one of the ideas that makes HG unique in its view. They still use someone else's work to make something that it wasn't intended as, then call it their own. While this was acceptable 20 years ago, the trend has proven it isn't now. Anywho, that's not the company I'd want bringing over Macross in any form.
  23. Simply put, WOW!!! Very nice artwork. BTW, welcome to the boards here. you've made me an instant fan of your art. Thanks for posting it up. Hope you do more and put it up here as well.
  24. Yeah, that's a very fair assessment. However, if that were to ever happen, I wonder how much western influence would affect Macross future installments? Right now, while we do complain about blockades and whatnot, how different, if at all, do you think Macross would've been if it was strongly linked to the west? I think the double edged sword of having Macross exclusive for Japan, is that it isn't influenced by the west, and keeps it where we like it. The bad side, obviously, is that DVDs are coded differently (work around), no subs (is usually worked around and can be done by the R.2 distributor), and the prices of merchandise and the media is more expensive (yeah, we have to save a bit more).
  25. In the works already. Hopefully will be done by march. I just put in inquiries regarding yellow led in the shape of the shoulder pads, and possibly setting up the chest piece as ipod doc and other things. We shall see...
