  1. Seeing Akiko is a welcomed portion of the series. She's one of my favorite women for the series,,, at least until another character by the name of Rex comes in a bit.
  2. That's cool news that you've been researching this more than just price. The layers of .004 is awesome too, which means less finishing work and a more detailed end result. Anyways, keep us informed of the progress of the startup. I've been looking into the possibility of doing the Studio Half-eye 1/100 VA-3M Invader in a 1/60 scale. As of now, I have heard from one person who can do it, and they have yet to get me pricing. Because these parts have som rounded parts, it may be simplest to use a scanner. As I'm not hip on the details and specifications of 3D scanners, it seems that at .004 per layer, the detail of rounded objects maybe quite well.
  3. Gubaba, do you have a link. I know, I'd look through the threads, but I really can't stand sifting through the tiresome threads there.
  4. Looks pretty good so far. Good work. Can't wait to see more work and the finished product.
  5. The fans have been groomed with the belief that HG will finish the story with the SDF-3. No future to look forward to, no bigger scope of story, just that small box. After 25 years going on, and being stuck with no new designs, it appears that what is there now, is all the fans want to know and be familiar with. HG has hindered the fans, and the fans haven't even known it, and yet, some of them like being in that state of degradation. After reading Tommy's story ideas for Shadow Rising, it does appear that they may only want to do 2 animated features. It does appear they don't have the creativity or will to continue the series. It must be hard work having to deal with fans in general. Every one of them believe they have the answers to save their precious Robotech.
  6. That's not Macross Ace vol.1, that's Macross The First Vol.1. Macross the First is the flagship manga that is in Macross Ace. It appears it's popularity have earned it a solo book. I've been looking through Macross Ace 3 lately, and I'm really liking the designs of Macross the First. If Macross was redone as an anime series, I don't think it'd be such a bad thing, especially if it was similar to this updated version. So, now we wait another 3-4 months???
  7. In this whole argument about continuing stories that should be left alone or not, it's quite easy to see the end results of the two sides. Macross has, for the most part, created new main characters for every series they've done, along with different sections of time. Because of this, if there isn't a certain part of a story of say, your favorite character, that isn't told, you can simply speculate, and talk about it, like how we kinda did for a bit here. The fans aren't left with the whole package, but get to engage the imagination more than having it all laid out. With Robotech, it has all been clumped into one big cast, and the problem they perpetuate, is that they have had such fear in just moving away from the bootlegged originals, that they no longer can, or feel they no longer can without losing their fans. They've boxed the imagination of the fanbase into this tiny box that only speculates on issues that were animation vs script discrepencies, and tries to fit them so that it makes sense. Either that, or the size of the SDF-1. It seems that's what seperate Macross fans from Robotech fans. We don't need everything spelled out for us. Now, I'm not saying that about all Robotech fans, cause some just watch it cause they know it and its accessibility. I think that applies to more the die hard elitist RT fans, whose biggest goal in life is to see what happens to their favorite war criminal, Rick Hunter.
  8. Thanks for the pics. That printer seems alright for the final product. How many 3D printers are you planning on getting samples from? Also, the samples you pictured, what type of plastic does it print? Do the various printers print w/ various forms of plastic? If so, you may want to look more into the one that has the most durable of plastics. That will also help if you decide to "print" molds. You'll get more copies like that perhaps. Also, I take it that if the paint is holding pretty well, things like putty and all that will bond quite well, too.
  9. That always bugged me when Kevin and co. would say that. Now, I don't care, but then, it was always "you need to spread the word so that people will buy Robotech. If you complain about Robotech, they'll punish us by not telling us anything or giving us anything." Can't feel bad for the fans though, they put themselves in that defenseless, threatened position.
  10. Going away from the negative vibe, I looked through #3 last night, and this issue has the Minmay shower scene, just much more tame. Nevertheless, Mikimoto's pics are simply awesome. The story still falls in line, but has some differences that stand out. For those that got it, you see what I mean. For those that don't have it, don't wanna spoil it for you, but when you get it, you'll like the subtle changes. As for the other stories, there seems to be part of Macross7 Trash in it, but the other stories, I can't tell what's going on, as I don't read or understand Japanese yet. Anyways, I'm happy with it. Good art, and it's a complete book about Macross. What's there not to love?
  11. Hmmm, as I'm not too much in the know about timeline around that time, I suspect Hikaru ended up being mr. mom for awhile. At some point he probably got pissed at the fact that he was playing the subservient role, and decided to re-aquaint himself with his old love Minmay. He ends up having an affair and Hikaru knocks Minmay up and they have a love child Named Basara. Who knows, I'm taking a shot in the dark based on that one M7 episode where the tabloid makes all those funny speculations. At least they didn't turn Minmay into a complete gardening tool like RT novels did.
  12. I can careless about the tinting on the colorless vf-1. The fact that it's not tinted gives the cusomizers who want to heavily detail the canopy can show off their work. If you think about it, this is basically a hybrid toy/model kit, so it's gonna have some elements of a model, like unfinished parts, especially a canopy, where some customizers are gonna go all out. I wonder if Yamato will have a custom contest for this thing? That would be quite awesome, although, I know it wouldn't apply to us outside of Japan. I have a total of 4 of these on preorder, so when they come, I've got a list of customs to do.
  13. If he was given the translations for free, would that mean that the download was free, too? If one still had to pay for it, then I can see where this is going. I went to the page regarding the place to get the other translations, and it's like $10 for a part of Mylene Beat, or something like that. So tell me, ichido reichan, how does the money thing work. If more people donate, is it less money needed, and what is the money needed for? If it's for a translator, then I'd rather just wait for a fan who actually likes this stuff to translate, and I'd be glad to help in that. If you actually provide a nicely done hardcopy, and that's what the money is for, why not give people the option to simply download it?
  14. Yeah, what a bummer that he isn't in the "know". I picked all those up in one day, and the L.A. store has the Sheryl Nome visual book still available. Also got word that my copies of Macross Ace #3 are in, so I'll be getting those tomorrow. It's nice to work right next door to Little Tokyo. As for the guide book, I didn't see it there when I strolled in on my c7 (lunch break). I read your thread on translation, and I do have a question. Maybe it's been answered before, but what is the money paid used for? Also, for example, if only 5 people were interested in a translation, how much would each person have to put in? I'm curious, cause most translation stuff that people do here is free, and any translation I've received, and have worked on has been free. Not to pester, so please don't take it the wrong way, I'm just curious what the money is for?
  15. If Macross had decided to go back to SDF:Macross, and continue the story of Hikaru, Misa, Minmay, etc, how much of it would've been new story, and how much would've been overkill of the characters? I like the way the Macross franchise has started and ended their series. The formula they have in place is working, so, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  16. Finally, after the long wait, all 3 helmets have arrived!!! Needless to say, these replicas are huge, and having all 3 now is a lot of space...Not so much the helmets, but the boxes they come in. I'm thoroughly happy with them, and after inspection, all of mine are minty white, no flaws. I think my favorite is the Max Jenius helmet. I think these helmets however, are more 1/ 4/5 scale, or slightly larger than 1/1 scale. The size of them, even for a normal person, is quite big, and the width of them is quite large as well. Nevertheless, I love these things, and to have all 3 is wonderful. Awesome work, Yamato. Now, to work on the chest support system for the pilot.
  17. I do agree here, and HP, to answer your question, there is lots of fill-in story around, although I don't know how official it is. But there are books that fill the gaps as to what happens to many of the characters. As far as the Minmay, Misa, Hikaru triangle, I understand what you feel to some extent. For me, I'd like at least a synopsis of what happened, not necessarily the details, and a rehash of a love triangle that has already played out. While there was a satisfying feeling in seeing Rick Hunter in Sentinels, after reading the story, I couldn't stand what they turned Minmay into. It was just a lousy way to turn such a great cast of characters into less-than-epic characters. The idea that Hikaru, Misa, and Minmay just kinda disappear off into the sunset does leave me wanting to find out more, but I can understand Kawamori's intentions of not wanting to convolute the story. Still, I always thought there could've been some balance between what happened, and not destroying the story.
  18. Hmmm, not to be OT, but I love Ikki Tousen. For fan service, and a good fight here and there, that show is awesome. When it comes to RT, there are many things I can say about it's current position, and how it's not going to expand or grow like the propaganda says, but just by virtue of the fact that their current medium of Broadcast is through feature presentations, that's already gonna limit them from growing fans. One thing I thought of, is if they had such marketability, why is it they can't get a Robotech series on T.V.? I know they would've liked to. I know Kevin McKeever had a hard-on for Fox, and bugged them to no end to see Robotech as a viable product. As you can all see, it didn't make it to television, so there you go. Anyways, at this point, it seems the only thing Robotech has become is even more of a chop shop. It's now just bits of incoherent micro sized pieces of 3 anime, and that's it. Robotech isn't even anime anymore, in the true sense of the word.
  19. I don't completely invalidate Robotech at all, and label it a bad show by any means. What it did was give a lot of people a love for anime, especially mecha, and brought a lot of people to these boards. Robotech had it's merits. Whatreally is the dividing line, is the incarnations post 1990, that everything goes down hill. You can probably date it earlier, but I'm just going off quick memory here. Anyways, Robotech, and the way it's been moving, and treating its fans, should just go quietly in the night. Even the age when Robotech was pounding out comics all over the place is better than what is going on over there now.
  20. Then you may want to get the Shoji Kawamori Mecha design book. It's got some in color, but I'm afraid what you're looking for, isn't a big selection. As far as blk and wht (assuming that's the B&W) that's an odd request. The best lineart you'll find is all gonna be in non-color.
  21. I'd ask what's wrong with them, but that's too easy of an answer. I don't think Maverick and co are on some big conspiracy to try to keep the fans interested in something so unrelated to Robotech. I think they're just over-zealous RT elitists, who want to tie everything that's good in the world to Robotech. It's naive, lame, devoid of any intelligence, flat out stupid, but whatever, it makes them happy thinking about it. While the news is cool, no doubt about that, I don't see what talks about the decade to come, and the change in television programming has to do with a franchise that isn't even planning to air their future productions on it.
  22. No, I bought the FX DVDs a lonnnnng time ago, and watched them about 3 years ago. To be honest, I don't remember too much about it. I confess, I had some fun watching it, and making fun of the bad translations. Since I've been making DVDs of the new remastered w/ subs, it's been like watching all over again. I'll watch ep. 2 tonight then.
  23. That looks like it's from the Pachinko game. Man, gotta get that. We'll see if I can get one before MW con 2010.
  24. Wow, so much talking for ep. 1 only. I'll jump in this group action. As far as ep.1 synopsis, it looks like it's been well covered, so I won't go there. My thoughts of ep. 1, well, not much of it really impressed me, but it left enough to want to watch ep.2. The part of this that really got me excited was seeing Max Jenius in this. Realizing that he has a part in all this is exciting. As for the plot of the first episode, it kinda leaves a WTF at first, but you gotta love seeing mecha action so early in a series. I'll be watching it again tonight. What day are we watching ep. 2?
  25. Is the patch for disc 9's subs out yet? I got 8, 10-16 now. thank you guys for your dedication. If you guys were close, I'd buy you a beer.
