If it was that simple, I don't think RT fandom would be divided 3 or 4 different ways as it is now. Lately, and this isn't just my assumption, but Macross Purist has become anyone that doesn't believe in the status quo of the site. People like even Goldie from rt.com have been labled as a Macross Purist, simply because they've presented something that is contrary to what is being pushed. While the lable by definition isn't a bad thing, I know on rt.com and probably on rtx.com, it's used to seperate those that are supposedly subversive from everyone else. In anycase, I don't think Macross fans define all RT fans as you say, Memo. I mean, Seto was on Robotech.com as a fan as well. Most fans of Macross like both, maybe just prefer Macross and all its consequent series over Robotech. I think the times and things people have shown to become most critical about Robotech are 1)HG itself, 2)Absurb fan actions, and 3)Lies, half truths, and misinformation. I think the rest of it that is done here is mostly for the sake of entertainment and discussion about the topic. I dunno, it's late, and I'm tired.

And let me guess, most of the more verbal speakers of these different sects of the Robotech religion don't get along?
-
There is that showing of Rex gang kinda in a state of shock after Basara fires the missiles. They were affected, luckily not injured. So, yeah, he did get lucky, especially firing missiles that weren't really aimed.
-
That term Robotech purist is a funny term, very contradictive in its title. Anyways... If there is a thing like a Robotech purists, it must be very difficult, as in all franchises I've seen, I've never seen such flights of canon, to non-canon, to partial canon story. The fans are so divided in what is, isn't, maybe, that to be a Robotech purists, that'd be similar to defining yourself amongst everyone you know. Everyone would have a different interpretation, maybe not in short definition, but to themselves. It struck me very odd when PTH kept labeling RT fans as Macross purist. While he has a very small IQ, no doubt, I found it odd that he was trying to use it as a demeaning term, when it's really not a bad thing at all.

I think in that light, it presents two points to Basara. It does show a contrast to his beliefs and what is reality. In that one moment when he fires the first volley, he saves the Rex gang. On that shot, he isnt aware that the chord position of his controls is to fire missiles. After that, he has a decision cause a few seconds go by. Does he go back to his standard defensive flight in protecting his friends, or does he fire again? He chooses to fire again, without weighing all the options. This shows the contrast of reality vs. idealism that Basara has, but also, perhaps inadvertantly, shows an area in which Basara is developing in, or will grow in.

Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
OK, that sounds a lot better. I'd definitely like for both sides to come together. Seems like a decent idea, but again, it really depends on the itinerary. I'm not the authority here, so I can't say for certain, but I don't think it'd be any MWcon by any means. I was also thinking about the display stuff. That's a very risky thing, having collections at AX. If I was to disply anything, while I trust those that I know, there are so many others I don't, and it'd be a bit of a concern. However, if there's like a table where different people can sit by whatever they display, and have people come to them, that may work. Well, since it's early, it's all just brainstorming, so that's all good. When time comes closer, keep us all in the loop, preferably in a new thread, as this one isn't viewed much. -
Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread

OK, I never said anything about any licensing debate being related to my comments of your proposal, so not really understanding how you took something unrelated into this conversation. If I did want to bring that into it, for whatever reason, it wouldn't have anything to do with something so unrelated. On your second paragraph, you'll need to be more clear on what exactly you are asking. This is why I asked if you guys were planning anything for AX. If you're asking Macross fans to come to a Robotech gathering, to have fun and all that, that's great. I think you know me enough to know that I'd be there. No problems there. It just comes off very vague, and full of alterior motives the way you explained it the first time. If it was an invite for MW members, perhaps the more prudent way to do it would've been to simply start a new thread inviting people. With my other comments (again, that don't have any licensing issues involved), I explained that usually it's more difficult to get some of the regular attendees to come to MWcon due to either AX, or more importantly, SDCC. That's why, generally, the schedule has always been set apart from that time. C'mon Memo...I've known you for a long time, and you likewise. We may have disagreements, but don't go throwing something that has nothing to do with this subject into the equation. If you don't have anything planned, and you're trying to plan something, I'm sure if permitting, a couple MW members will come by. As for a panel, well, for a Robotech event, don't know if there'd be many people interested, but keep me updated on the progress of it, and who knows. -
You know, I don't think half the people who use that term "Macross Purist" actually know what the hell they're talking about. If you think about it. What is Macross Purism? It's someone who wants to keep Macross, well, as Macross. I never thought it meant you had to dislike Robotech, only that you prefer the original Macross over any imitation of it. Is that a bad thing? I certainly don't think so, and while I liked Roboech for what it brought for the time, I still consider myself a Macross purist simply cause I prefer SDF: Macross to Robotech: The Macross Saga. That's why, whenever I've been labled, I really careless. Actually, everytime they call someone a Macross Purist, it really says something. It says, "you like something that is untainted", unlike Robotech, which by default, would be a tainted show. Hmmm, am I thinking too logically in this? Anyways, I just had to comment on that. Really shows how much some of these people actually think. Yeah, I know that's obvious.

I agree. I think the rush to jealousy, then her choice to help Basara shows the character not only dealing with her own teenage characteristics, but also dealing with the responsibility of being a true member of Fire Bomber, and one who cares for Basara and her teammates. It's interesting because Mylene is thrown into witnessing something she probably wasn't thinking about, or wasn't prepared for, and instead of burying the negative, she turns it into a positive. Another thing that stuck out in this episode was how Basara not only fires missiles once, but twice. I like this episode because in all of its "fun" setting, it shows the limitations, and soft spots for the main characters. Once Basara fired the missiles once, you'd think his approach to non violence would've taken hold, but he fires a second time, showing that he does have a ways to grow in the series. Campy, yes, but I like this episode quite a bit. Can't wait till friday. Memo, glad you could check up over here. It's good to see you hanging out over here. If you do decide to watch M7 with us. I won't tell Tommy, promise!!! Seriously though, I think we're doing this not just to watch a series together, but to keep active, and open discussions about other issues that even a series like M7 can bring. Who knows, you may end up tolerating it, or heck, even liking it. Either way, feel free to read on and have fun doing so. Glad you're in here. Nice to step away from politics.

Yeah, that too. Again, it adds to the one-sided proposal. While I do like the first 85 of Robotech, I don't support the B.S. that it's become, and I'd rather not have to incorporate, or associate Macross with Robotech anymore than it is. Could it be that they just don't have the gusto to have big gatherings anymore? They never really invited MW fans to anything, and although the invitation does seem to come with a bag of alterior motives, it's interesting that MW would be asked to a Robotech thing to have our con there. Strange.
-
That was big of you Pete...really... In regards to this, I responded. While the idea could be interesting, it seems very one-sided. It's like we'd be invited to a Robotech convention at our expense, at the expense of bringing our stuff, and being thrown a bone to host a Macross panel. In all the years I've gone to MWcons, it's been solely about Macross, and everything related to it. I'm also not big on the idea of mixing it with AX. When I go to AX, I go to AX to shop and walk around, not really to only talk about Macross. Now, if we could get Mikimoto or the Hory Froating Head to show, that'd be different, but seperating the cons gives some people a time to get those that go to SDCC and AX money to save to come back to MW. What do you guys think? Am I alone in feeling this?

I don't know about this idea... It seems very one-sided. I know it's the 25year anniversary of Robotech, but that leaves a big question. Aren't you guys planning anything other than the usual convention tour? The plans of the 2010 convention for MW isn't set, but is usually away from AX, simply to be able to get some of the fans who go to AX and SDCC a chance to go. This seems more of like a small RT convention with Macross fans bringing all their stuff so RT fans can look at it. Then, to only have a Macross panel only, that's quite a retreat from what MWcon has been, especially in the last few years. It's not that both sides should be able to come together, but in such a one-sided proposal, and the timing of AX, it doesn't seem like a well thought idea. I don't know, that's just my opinion. I'll bring it up to some of the planners, and see what they think. BTW, I know a couple of you guys planning MWcon, but who else is involved? -
After watching episode 5, I remembered this is the first episode where Mylene shows a bit of jealousy over Basara and Rex. I was having a discussion awhile back ago about how and why some girls are overly jealous. And it made me think of the end of this episode. I don't believe Mylene's jealousy was over the fact that she actually likes Basara in that way, but more of a jealousy over the situation. I was having a discussion with this episode with a friend, and we were trying to figure out what she'd be jealous of, and based on Mylene's age, it is feasible that as she's at the age of wanting a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, she could've been more jealous that she doesn't have that. I dunno, what do you guys think?

At this point being done. If anyone needs a copy of the DVDs, I'll be glad to help. Now that they're done, I can just disccopy and voila. Send me a PM if you need any of them. We can work something out to get you the DVDs. I can burn DL DVDs, but the time I tried it, I think I used an inferior brand, and it didn't work so well. Nevertheless, send me a pm if you need help, or need them.

Yeah, I've been a bit busy with work, so I haven't worked on it lately, but usually when dedicated, I can tab out a song in about an hour or two, usually less.
-
OK, to make this funky-ass cult moving, Seto, you have to wear a multi-colored snuggie Maybe Pete, Gubaba, and myself will wear the blue ones. Geez, how come those RT boards don't have anymore nonsense to laugh at? I hope our subversive cult powers make them all come out and start acting like morons,,, I mean normal again.

Do you have a pic of the poster?

I'm hoping my dream of a 1/60 version of the Studio Half-Eye VA-3 Invader can come to fruition. I know it'll probably cost quite a bit, but it'll be well worth it when I have it.
-
Indeed looking good. I have a question...For the finished product, will it be cel shaded or have the CGI look? I saw the character designs and like them a lot. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
-
Any update on Zero? I know it's getting around the season where things slow down, so if you're busy, no worries.
-
Haven't even tried that song. I've been working on Ranka's version of What bout my Star (translation?) It's quite easy, just gotta actually spend time to finish it. I've got a couple of the Macross 7 Fire Bomber songs done, and DYRL (a version of it) completed. Also, a metal version of SDF Macross opening, which we horribly performed at MW con 08.

Seems like only time would tell if MH will continue or not. They did have the dark ride armor for sale recently on rt.com, but I don't know if that was a new release or not. I'm gonna assume that they aren't till I see a new ride armor. Hope for the best, but expect the worst, I guess.
-
Hmmm, how is your legions of groupies Pete??? I hope you aren't spending too much time with the cult, because the Hory Froating Head has called us to pay homage. The Gathering has come.

My thoughts on the value of a custom are pretty simple. It's art. Whether good, bad, or in between, it's someone's artistic interpretation of something they've seen, or something they've imagined. If the customizer/artist feels his custom is worth a million dollars, as absurd as we'd all see that, it's his work, and he can keep his art and value it at that price. I doubt he'd sell it at that, but value is in the eye of the beholder. I've customized a couple valks myself in the day, and thought they were pretty good. Many others have as well. But if someone thought they were garbage, it's not for me to criticize them. It's their opinion, and I let my work speak for itself. Any customizer takes a chance on the job he does. That Valk has a specific value when MIB, and when disassembled, painted, customized, and put back together, the general consensus may love it, reject it, or be in between. Likewise, if he is wanting to sell it, the factors at play are quality of work, the seller's value, and the buyer's value. When you break it down, it's as simple as that. As for the exclusive Valks that we have been seeing pop up, they make limited runs because they know only the completist groups, or those with a lot of expendable income are gonna bite on them. Good thing about them is that they'll always be at factory grade, and will retain their value more or less, depending on supply vs. demand. Bad side is that you usually pay much more for them. The same is for the stock valks I think, except you're getting something more common, and something that doesn't cost as much. This has probably already been said, but there's my $0.02 worth for ya.

I had two for sale awhile back. Sold one for $300 shipped, and the other for $250 both MIB. They were sold a couple months apart, and the decline of them was quick. I think anyone trying to sell them for more than $300 is gonna have a difficult time selling it, but then again, you were looking at one for awhile and almost bit it seems. Glad you got a good deal on it. I was never a 1/48 collector, but those, and the Roy Focker VF-1S weathered were two that I had at one point. I'm glad they went to 1/60 scale, otherwise, I wouldn't be buying VF-1s at all.
