Bam!!! And now we reached a new thread for the new year. Thanks for the "reset", let the games begin.

Today, I just got my Fire Bomber CD "Re Fire". Man, what a rockin' set of music. That's gonna be in my car for sometime, driving back and forth from the Valley and back to South Bay. Makes me wanna pickup my guitar again. I think I'm gonna learn song #1 or #2.
-
That's not a bad thing by any means. As for Gundam, not too big on the new stuff, but I've been getting re-acquainted with 08th MS team.

Robotech, no matter how hard people try to argue this, is still a small niche product. That being said, it appears that any group larger than 20 is considered a large gathering. I only know 2 Robotech fans in the UK, and they've told me that there is next to no fanbase in the U.K. These are true Robotech fans too, not the half way fans, or fair-weather fans. It's not surprising, but it still makes me face palm everytime I see someone who knows absolutely nothing about a subject or fact, talk as if they are the authority. So, Maverick knows the insides of Hollywood, and knows that Paramount is quaking in their boots over a LARM that isn't even green lit yet. Memo knows demographics for Robotech in every country, and knows that millions upon millions of fans in the UK all are rabid Robotech fans. Little dougibendo knows that everybody who watches Macross is a pedophile. PTH knows that Robotech is better because of how they get made fun of, and because nobody knows how to debate. Now, I'm sure they'll probably read this, and think, "you know, Jasonc is right! Let's keep it up." I can only say go ahead. Keep running with the current regiment. Even the regular RT fans are getting tired of the franchise, and HG seems to be cool with letting the fanbase go the way of the dinosaur. If that's how the elites wanna run things, and that's how HG wants to let it go, I'm not gonna argue. I'm just gonna call it as it is.

I agree that the original VAs did a wonderful job on Robotech. there's not much debating in that. But, in comparing it to Macross, I think it's on par. Same could be said of Macross, with the exception of ADV's version of the english dub of Macross, that was a butcher. As fort he idea of Roy, Roy was about the same in Robotech as he was in Macross. Macross didn't really need to write new songs for certain episodes, because the amount of BGM and vocal tracks they had was quite large, and it fit well in all areas. In the music area of BGM, Macross and Robotech did quite well in that dept., and I hate comparing them, since music is something I am quite fond to. I'm not gonna judge one better than the other, because the art and effort people went through, to put it all together is unique, and whether one likes it or not, it conveys not only the emotion of the show, but of the composer as well. I feel though, in the vocal tracks, Macross has a much bigger leg up than Robotech did. What I'm talking about is the Macross Saga and SDF Macross. Reba West sang these songs as part of the job, and they were intended as just that. However, Mari Iijima sang not only as the job required, but also sang as a professional. You can tell a lot more emotion and quality went into those than Robotech's did. I'd put the New Generation vocal tracks completely seperate, and therefore, I don't think they are to be compared here.

Definite thanks to Roger for getting all these together in a pdf format. It's great to see that others can share in the great lineart that they are, and see some of the history of MOSPEADA. I like that colored one at the end...Hopefully in time, more will come out, especially in color. It is a shame that his book never came to fruition. It would've been a good buy. Nevertheless, as it seems that the project was doomed, due to the current powers that be, at least this is a way to show part of what could've been.

What HG says (sometimes), is that they are wanting to time Shadow Rising with the LAM. So, while they say that it isn't on hold, it is on hold cause they're gonna wait for the LAM. Where it gets tricky, is that they are still in the early stages of preproduction, still trying to figure out what the story is gonna be about. Work hasn't been going on with it, unless you count talking about it, and that seems more like it's being on hold, or hiatus...same thing. As for a benefit, I don't think there's a benefit, unless they're doing it cause WB says to, which seems like the case. It's just one of those things that strengthens the case, and theory that HG wants to pave the way for WB to have a successful movie, in order to want generate interest to possibly buy the franchise. Robotech may not be with HG forever. Frank Agrama is old, and with all his legal troubles, I don't think he'll be interested in continuing with a questionable franchise for too much longer. The only benefit there could be, is that if they were, in fact, working on Shadow Rising, they would be able to refine it much more than the first movie. However, since that isn't the case, they're only losing their fanbase, and losing touch with potential cash.

When RTSC was first in being talked about and maybe in pre production, the anime HG was looking at replicating was something like Yukikaze. While (I think it was) Gonzo did the A-list work and key animation, DR Movie was the B or C team, doing in between and clean up. What happened with HG, is that when they got a cost estimate from Tatsunoko to do Mospeada II,,,I mean, RTSC, they passed on having them do it. With the budget they got, DR movie, that same B or C team company, became not only the A-team to work on RTSC, but the only team. So, I don't know if you've seen Yukiaze, but compare that to RTSC, and you see just how short they really fell. As for the thread on rt.com, I wouldn't expect it to get locked anytime soon. It's a thread making a feable attempt to validate a bootlegged series. While I do like Robotech, I gotta call it as it is,,, a legal bootleg. But that thread is just one of those threads that is their attempt to validate their lives that they've wasted on believing in a faulty, poor franchise. Neptunekittie said it right when she mentioned that Robotech has failed at rekindling the "magic" that it had back then. She seems like a realist. Seems like everyone else is simply trying to psych themselves up into believing that what they're saying is real and valid.

Is that figure from an anime? That is one gorgeous figure! And Pete, I do admit that the Asuka sculpt is probably one of the best I've seen, but I haven't made the jump to NGE figures yet. I'm waiting for a Katsuragi as well. A GOOD ONE that'll make me make the jump.

You know, if Memo and Maverick hardly pay any attention to that wacko, why should any of us? I don't even think he realizes that the article of interest in that thread is meant more as a spoof, or more of a joke than anything. Yet, he's treating it as proof. He made mention that Robotech fans are better based on how we make fun of them? We only make fun of the select few, like himself, whom are too stupid to really think for themselves, and the others who are trying to "drink the cool-aid". Think of it this way...He's like a dumb kid who hears what those in authority say, and then goes to his friends and tries to repeat the knowledge in the retarded form that he picked it all up in. I think most of what he says is just for shock value. It'd be more sad if he was serious about what he says. Then I'd seriously think he's just someone with some serious baggage, or has some serious mental issues. What they really don't get is that most of these animes are similar in some ways. Nobody said Macross didn't have similarities between Gundam, or Space Battleship Yamato. But here's the difference, Macross may be "like" Gundam, but Robotech IS Macross, along with 3 other shows. That's an argument any RT fan going there should run into. They'll never win that one.

The idea has floated around here before. It's not like it's a new idea, just one that hasn't really been talked about too much. I'm sure if it's posted on rt.com, it'll get shot down by those trying to steer everything in their own direction. Not only that, you're also speculating and only mods can speculate. I also think that if it was true, they'd deny it till the day it happens. Robotech.com is not the place to talk about things robotech, especially things like that. Weird, but that's their world over there.

Sounds right, except no Leonardo, and no rich debutants running around.

See, all that drama with Kevin saying SR is on hiatus, then backtracking and using it as now "it's an industry term", then saying that it isn't, all plays into how HG is trying to portray the franchise. They want Robotech to look like a good, profitable, money making franchise. It's been the topic of conversation with a few people I know on and off. With HG's current position, it seems like they're trying to get WB to not only make the movie, but perhaps buy the franchise. Given that very possible theory, it easily makes sense that Kevin would get a spanking for saying something that he wasn't supposed to. HG needs to make the franchise look like it's moving. That's probably why he gets all bent outta shape when someone mentions the hiatus thing. While it may tweak him a bit, the evidence and contradicting statements by Kevin, and Tommy point to the fact that SR is on hold. OK, I said hold, not hiatus. I could've said hibernation, it's all the same thing. But this is the game Kevin is playing with the fans over there. "It's not on hiatus, we're just timing it right to coincide with the movie" Those kinda spins on the same thing are what let anyone with any thought process know that nothing has really been done. I know there hasn't been much done on it for a fact. It's all for the big sale, the big score for WB, and they're gonna spin what they can to make it look good for WB. If you really hate Robotech, you should be happy that they are banning people on the website, cause that place is turning into a ghost town, and I'm sure someone at WB is taking notes. Maybe a movie will get made, maybe not. But will it make Robotech more of a viable product? HG has to sell it first, cause right now, they aren't doing anything with it.
-
I guess they're not used to two people living in the same house. You know, some people do live with others, and, dare I say it, have accounts in the same forums. They must really not know too much there. If there was any intelligence in the thinking there, they would've realized that they are different people. I wouldn't put too much into that though. It's just an excuse to get rid of anyone with a brain.

I don't know your fan level for Robotech, but it seems best to just let the blind lead the blind. Just by arguing with them, they've already put up a defense, and have labled you a Macross Purists. They don't like logic, and it's evident in how they let the mods talk. Best to simply keep suppressing the fans, let them choke themselves off, and let the pieces fall where they may. With the number of licensees they have falling by the wayside, the product is becoming more out of sight, out of mind than anything. What has been suggested to me by someone who may know, is that this is HG's last ditch effort to sell off the franchise. It makes sense on why they'd do what WB says, and why they portray the franchise as being much more productive than it really is. With the economy the way it is, and Frank's continued trouble in Italy, I'm sure a lot of money is tied up in legal, and I'm sure with his age, he's ready to start tying loose ends. Just a theory, nobody knows. But, I'm sure there's some validity to it. I wouldn't necessarily ask a Robotech elitists this, or Kevin McKeever, cause they can't say, nor won't speculate on a touchy subject, but rightly so.

I haven't got any of them yet, but I ordered 2 of the assembled, and 2 unassembled. If anyone does have them, can you please take pics???

The logo is alright, but I dare say, it would speak more "Robotech" if there was a VF-1 Very-Tek (don't get the pitchforks out just yet) on the front. I know, it's part of the problem, I'm just saying, Macross has been the main staple of Robotech. It's where the main heroes come from. Just kinda brings the thought that they are trying to force the "New Gen" stuff, and it wasn't the most popular part. People still want Rick Hunter.

I don't remember all that well, but I think they were about $20 at Kinokuniya. Then again, I'm sleepy, so maybe I'm mixing it up with something else. -
Happy New Year guys. Just got back from work, and talk about busy. Anyways, hope this thread goes another year with fun filled comments, crazy little drama spurts to put down and out, and some insight into the subject. Been fun, and looking forward to 2010 being even better.

Yeah, there's no doubting that. Even moreso, not only has he become a scapegoat, but also part of the problem. Well, it's been the entire staff. But, that is simply how it goes for that camp.

I wouldn't go that far, but he is a self proclaimed Macross fan. I don't think he's choosing sides, and rightly so. He's a fan of one, and works for the other, and I would assume he's a fan of that, too. That's why I found it funny when it was brought up that Tommy was nearly lynched for wanting to take "protoculture" from the first 2 series. Whether or not he wants to be a fan of both sides doesn't matter, the Robotech fans will make sure he stays a Robotech fan, or probably die trying.
-
Whoaaaa!!!! Scoopda!!!! Thanks, they had something I needed to order on there, so that worked out wonderfully. Thanks for the update.

Aside from disagreements I may have with Tommy Yune, he is a Macross fan. He's always been willing to come to the MWcon's, and in the past, has brought over designs and cel's I believe. Last year was kinda a bust with only Robotech stuff, but his panel on photoshop was pretty good. I think he's just a guy who wants to fit into both worlds, but if he shifts too much to any one side, he'll lose the other. Like Seto said, it seems like he wanted to go through a retcon to make some mecha nuclear powered, and look what happened. On the other side, he won't go too far with the Robotech fans, cause he may lose face with more Macross fans. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I see it, and I don't think I'm the only one. Anyways, either way you look at it, it's probably the right thing to do. One gives you your paycheck, and the other helps validate you to some extent (except for in this thread it seems).
