QFT!!! I'm a fan of the Sheryl character as well, however, I find it quite funny when people get hot an bothered over a drawn lines and color that represent people. It's actually quite hilarious, but to each their own.

You're right, it is kinda a broad statement. And that's not even really a bad thing. If it's just one specific thing that they like, or only know of Robotech, one can't fault that preference. Also, perhaps I shouldn't generalize it so much, as there are probably more that actually do like anime in general. It's a simple observation though, and it still holds true from my observations. For example, I have one friend who's one of the old school Robotech fans. What he knows of anime is Macross (outside of SDF macross), Gundam, Evangelion, and Full Metal Panic, as well as things like Votoms and that sort. Again, it's not a bad thing, but that's his preference. His introduction to "anime" was Robotech, so he gravitates to stuff that is similar in that fashion. Outside of that genre, he doesn't know much. There are many that I know that have similar likes based on similar backgrounds. I don't see a lot of Robotech fans making the leap to various other anime titles outside of the Robot/mecha action titles. There's probably many reasons why, but I'd probably chalk most of it up to just being used to or comfortable with that one genre, and not being knowledgable about what else is out there that is actually any good. There is, a lot of anime that many would find simply garbage, or not to there liking.

I think those details are being worked out, but I'd say that if you can make it, that'd be awesome. I think this year will be quite fun, and should be full of Macross goodness.

you're missing out on those great 1/4 lb. big bites with the chili cheese, and some chili cheese fritos. I still have a VHS copy of the English version. However, it has a VHS cover that says Macross, and is the full version of the movie.

Whoa!!! sounds like you're a busy person there. I did one custom so far, but have one unpainted v.2 and two unassembled v.2. I'm using one of the unassebled ones as a VE "platypus", and the other will probably be a version of the Stampede Valk. The other unpainted version I have will be a Minmay Guard paint scheme. Decals are being worked on at this point, so once that's completed, I'll be organizing those and start the process over again. Perhaps there should be a V.2 1/60 Yamato valk thread. Again, congrats, and can't wait to see your next customs.

I've been watching Monster, as well as just finished Gankutsuo, and about to start Aquarion. I haven't heard much about Aquarion, just know that Kawamorisan did the designs for the mecha. As far as "Those Who Hunt Elves" that's a great anime for some good laughs. I enjoyed that series.

Great custom, that takes me back to the chunky monkey days. What base Valk did you use for it? was it the unpainted assembled or an unassembled one, or something different? In anycase, cool custom. They are definitely s2tarting to come out slowly. Can't wait to see more of the 1/60 v.2s.

Best thing to do: email Bandai, and make the interest known. For Macross, the U.S. and countries elsewhere are a market known, but probably not researched in detail, as it is a Japan only title. Perhaps they need enough interest to generate it, and since this is a market maybe not so well known, perhaps writing letters are a way to help. Long shot, yes I know. But wondering about it never did anything either.

See, and proof there, I'd buy it instead of downloading it just based on that. They should try it out, especially on a movie, since it's a one shot deal, and do a little market research and see if online, or overseas sales increase. May be interesting to do for them. It'd probably be a worthwhile endeavor to go ahead with.

Out of the few that I do know that are into anime, aside from maybe 2 or 3, they all only like anime that wants to look like the originals, or has very similar stories or concepts. The exceptional 2 or 3 are quite knowledgeable about anime in general, but yeah, that's 2 or 3 out of aaaaaaa llllllooooooottttt.

It would be a great getaround to the blockade thing, and would probably boost the sales of their DVDs/BRs, but they haven't done this so far, so I'm not counting on it. You should write a letter to Bandai about it. I have, and I'm sure others have also. If the request got big enough, they'd probably pay attention.

I dunno, I didn't have a clue what "anime" was, after Robotech. Maybe I'm just different, but in anycase, Robotech didn't open my eyes to Japanese anime. If anything, and in a very indirect manner, DYRL got me curious as to what other Macross and other similar shows were out. But then again, it wasn't till much later that I connected with those "other" series, and anime as a whole. I guess to me, it's liken to being a fan of basketball because you saw Kobe Bryant. If that's all you're going on, I'd arguably call you a basketball fan. That doesn't mean you're not a Kobe Bryant fan. But if you get to know the game, can appreciate it in general and actually have some fondness for the sport, then yeah, I would say you're a fan.

No matter how bad I want to see this, I'm gonna wait till I can see it in DVD quality version. I'll definitely buy it on Blu-Ray as well. Afterall, having all of MacF as a fan sub doesn't truly show my support. I have no problems paying for something that puts out this quality.

After listening to these, Grace and Leon have the strangest sounding duet out of all of those, but I really like Michael and Klan doing Runner. It's quite decent out of all of them. Shao Pai Lon and Totsugeki Love Heart is just funny as can be.

For many Robotech fans, I'm sure it's an easy copout to say that it got them into anime. I could easily say the same, but in really thinking about it, that's not the truth. In being a robot fan since back in the early days (I had Shogun Warriors and all that before the word anime was probably even termed), and while being an old Robotech fan, it didn't lead me to search for "anime". I think it was seeing DYRL in 89 or 90 that gatewayed my knowledge of other shows out there. Orguss, Gunbuster, those were things that I became aware of later, that continued to grow my interest in anime. Still, I didn't pursue finding VHS tapes or anything at that time. It was probably around 98 or 99, when I started searching the internet for all these old shows, that I realized that there was more Macross out there than SDF, DYRL, and Plus, and in searching for Orguss stuff, I found links to a whole world of "new" shows. So, while I could pull a fanboy statement and say that it was Robotech or Macross, in reality, it doesn't seem plausible to have a blanket interest in anime based on one show. It may spark it, but I think it's bigger envelopes of interests that get people into anime. Whether the intrigue of Japanese culture, animation in general, robots, or whatever.

We never really recorded any of our practices, and it's been awhile since we have practiced. That said, maybe it'd be a good idea to do so sometime. As for Light the Light. It's a pretty easy song to play, and it has a lot of energy for a balad song. Were you wanting to learn to play it? If so, I can probably write out the tab here for you.

REJOICE!!! and go protoculture your mate, make protoculture and then go smell it for a protoculture high. Also, don't forget to fuel your ship. Now, that's Decultcha!!!

I'm sure once all parties get back from their excursions, we'll sort out a game plan for events and all. When I get back from my vacation, I'll be geared up and ready to hit the pavement with this. Having a DJ play will be fun. I'm gonna see if we can get my band to play as well. We can do a couple Macross and other anime songs.

Thanks for your long, but detailed answer. I guess everyone has a reason or two to stick with things they grew up with. For me, and the only reason why I still stick around it, is mostly due to friends. It's the good fans/friends that keep me still interested in what Robotech ONCE WAS. It's very unfortunate that the few vocal morons and staff feel they need to destroy what was good of the series. When I decided to "leave the fandom" (more like chose to say some things to ban myself), the franchise was already on a path I didn't care to follow. Having friends that were involved then and now like Michael Bradley, Tom Bateman, Richard Epcar, JT, and so on, those are the people that if I "get involved", attend events, and the sort, they're the reason why I bother. The good people. I found this an interesting idea. The books weren't as bad as some remember, nor were they as great as some remember. The problem is, if they did this, what would be the response HG would use for the decanonization of all the Sentinels material and all that? Perhaps they should revisit those books. At least those interested in seeing what possibly happened between the last ep of Macross Saga and Symphony of light (not the Edwards Freak Monster show garbage that made it to the comic).

Remind us again why there's this Robotech infopedia thing being done for something you don't like, Seto? I'm not criticising you, just truly curious. From many of your posts, it sounds like you don't like Robotech at all. If you don't, that's all fine and whatnot, but if that is the case, why would you be giving so much attention to something that you don't like the series, you don't like the idiots that work for it, and you don't like the extreme vocals of the f!@#tard group? If it's cause you do still have interest in it, I'm curious how much interest you have to be doing this. If it's for a group of friends, that's cool and all, but I'm curious here, and it seems like others are as well.

In response to the glue issue. I took apart one of the No Painting pre-builts for my custom that I finished a couple weeksa ago, and let me say that the glue isn't 100% necessary, but is if you wanna keep gaps in the legs and some other areas to a minimum. On my Sheryl Guard custom, if you look at the pics, in this forum, you'll see that there are some gaps in the legs. Now, it's not a deal breaker, but I just didn't want to worry about glue, and decided to work without it on this one. I'll probably use it in the unassembled versions I have. Oh, and for the record, taking these apart isn't as hard as I imagined it'd be. And if you have one of the unpainted ones that's assembled, they're good practice for putting them back together. these completely unassembled ones shouldn't be too dificult. As for the shoulders from a true v.2 and not 2.1, if it has the ribbed pins, you can goto a hardwars store and find pins to match that don't have it, or you can sand or flatten out the given ones. Rule of thumb for helping the preservation, loosen the arms a bit. More play will divert stress into the loose area, and away from the stressed, problem area.

That doesn't surprise me in the least bit, as there were people all the time that would ask the strangest, most confusing questions in trying to understand Robotech. It seems to be a common thread for this type of cartoon that was spliced together storywise.

Hmmm, thought of getting the band together to learn this song, too. There's still one song I've been practicing, and am pretty much ready to play with the band, and that's Light the Light, and can probably do Angel Voice. As for the new Fire Bomber Songs, while I don't have them all yet, I'm working on those. If anyone can find guitar tablature for the new Fire Bomber songs, please let me know. I haven't found any as of yet.

And in this, lies one of the biggest problems. Yes, it's great that Carl Macek is remembered and all that. It's great that fans can come together and whatnot. However, why does it have to turn into a Robotech LAM promotion, and have all the Tommy Yune characters around his head. Tasteless is exactly what I'd call that. It's like all the Robotech crap is in the front, and CM is simply the means to promote all that. Forget that Carl worked on bigger things than Robotech, like Bleach, and other anime titles. Forget that he had his own books out. Let's make it all about Robotech, not Carl Macek.

If you think having Bandai add english subs to their Japanese BR and DVDs, write them a letter. I'm sure if enough people write a letter to them, it'd be considered. I'm sure they're somewhat aware of the fan sub market out there, and I have suggested a group letter for this workaround, kinda like a petition. Someone start it up, and I'll definitely sign it. And, just for the record, I like Macross where it is. If it never came over here, I'd be just fine with that. The "keeping Macross pure tax" is OK by me.
