Yeah, I'm not gonna be looking for this or pick it up, but it is interesting to see that this series and the franchise has enough momentum to actually come out with something that would only interest a lot less fans of the series. If anyone sees this in the near future, and can figure out if there's any decent plot to it, please let us know. Maybe there is some "Saving Grace" (pun intended) to it.

Official MacrossWorld Convention 2010 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Awesome stuff...Glad the venue is set again. Bee, Exo, next poker game, we'll have to work out other logistics, but count me in for helping with setup and other things. I'll be working on some customs this year. So, the ball is officially rolling. -
I'll probably be there w/ some sort of Macross t shirt, probably a MWcon shirt (maybe the new one if they're done by that time). Yardhouse is a great place, and since I live close, if we get a large enough group, I'll see about reservations. There will be a few of my friends going as well, so there will already be like 9 of us, then with you, that makes 10. I don't know how far, but if you're cool with friday, that so far makes officially 11 and counting. I'm sure we'll all be outside at Yardhouse's patio, where we can move the tables to fit a large group. If they have a large dining area inside, I'll see if I can set that up. Only problem is, I'll need people who are going to be there, to respond here sooner than later. I'd like to try and set this up sooner than later.

Playing the ultimate Robotech fanboy for a minute,,, "Lisa Hayes Hunter still looks young because during space folds, time slows down. The protoculture has that effect, allowing people to live longer in space, too. You Macross Purists don't understand that. It takes masters degrees to figure that out, or you have to be hardcore into Robotech. Even Macross designers were trying to copy Robotech by making Max and Miriya look young in Macross 7. They were trying to copy Robotech: the Sentinels. Robotech, the bestest ever, Macross purist!!!" I'm sure the weirdos of the fan base would probably make some excuse like that, instead of just understanding the fact that the creative art director probably didn't want to have Robotech fans crap a house by jarring their vision of what the characters look like. As much as Rick looked like an old pasty whit guy, his facial design (save for the ultra buff comic book superhero body), is probably more intact with what he'd probably look like. But that's just my opinion, and if Shadow Chronicles was anime, I'd probably care, but it's not, so I don't.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-05-28/macross-frontier-movie-launches-shojo-manga-series Taken from the ANN website Shōjo manga creator Kariko Koyama has launched Sheryl ~Kiss in the Galaxy~, a series based on last year's Macross Frontier ~Itsuwari no Utahime~ film, in the July issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend magazine on Friday. Shoji Kawamori, the creator of the Macross science-fiction romance franchise and the director of the Macross Frontier movie, is collaborating on the manga's original story. The first manga installment covers the early years of the idol singer character Sheryl Nome in vocal school — a storyline not seen in the animation thus far. This should be quite interesting. I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I'm posting this here. This may be an interesting story for those interested in the Sheryl character.

Well, it does seem like the quote from the Regult thread did get taken way out of context. I would've avoided starting a whole new thread about it though. And for the record, when Macross was in production, there was a lot of shortcuts they did, for time sake. Look at the 2nd ep. of SDF:Macross (I think it's 2nd ep.) where the regults just slide down the hill to attack. They didn't want to animate a bunch of pods jumping or running, so they just slid in a static position. The scale issue could've just been part of the rush to get these episodes done. It doesn't seem like the member in question this thread is about was saying anywhere that the artists and people involved were inferior, but maybe intended to mean that a lot of shows that were long series, and in some rush, had some quality aspects traded for funds and time consumption. You look at 80s cartoon series, then look at some of the feature movies, like DYRL, and you get an idea of what SDF:Macross could easily have been if it wasn't for time and money constraints. I'm a big fan of 80s anime and don't think it's inferior at all. It was a different era though, and the thought processes of getting these to the screen seemed much different than they are today.

Ahhh, just ordered the last figure that Miriya had posted up. It's an awesome figure. Can't wait to see it.

that's gotta be one of the sweetest room themes I've ever seen. My favorite things of interests in those pics were 1) The Macross Quarter holding the computer cables 2) The music speakers next to Micheal Blancs 1/60 with the speaker pods and Ranka under it 3) The large alto figure on the red motorcycle 4) The "Sheryl bedroom" display 5) The large Ranka dolls I take it a lot of those things are custom works she's done? They are amazing.

Good choice on the Iwata HP-C series. The dual action and the ease of use/cleanup is amazing. I've had several airbrushes over my time, and the Iwata, while expensive, is worth its weight. It's like the Bentley of airbrushes.

I said it before, I'm bettin' on either Yoko Kanno (she did a lot of the music composition and writing for the songs, or good ol' Basara himself will be there to rock out with Sheryl. the May'n music DVD has them performing Totsugeki Love Heart together, and it's a great performance.

This really helps Macross more than anything. Having these sold in the U.S. by Toynami as a distributor only puts small amounts of money in HG's pocket, but really helps Revoltech out by selling more units. As far as the price point, I've been able to buy these same Revoltechs at the same price rt.com is selling them at. There's no plus to many, having these distributed over here through rt.com. Buying these through some of the local e-tailers (the ones that are already available) cost the same. What this also shows is simply this, Macross still sells, enough for HG to still want a piece of it. No matter what, Macross still seems to have the be all, end all to Robotech. Funkensteim wrote:"The Revo figures are actually cheaper if you import them... HLJ has them at 40% off." Proves my point, and one that many here have said for sometime. Having HG distribute this stuff doesn't make it any cheaper. I'm still gonna go to my local shop, and get these at same or lower price, and skip the shipping, rather than pay sales tax and shipping and MSRP at rt.com.

I'll definitely get a few if the set is recast when done. Thanks, and great work.

Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
Jasonc replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hahaha, get your glow sticks out for a wild ride. To keep on topic, from posts earlier in this thread, it does appear it's still playing in some theaters. That's pretty cool, maybe it shows that this film did well enough. For those that got the lucky chance to see it in a theater, were the theaters packed, half full, or barely full? -
I'd suggest if you're going, to buy the tickets, and not wait in line for free ones. I did that one year, and missed out. While I was waiting in line for tix, I could've been waiting in line for the concert and got damn good seats. That said, I'll probably be in line much earlier as well, too. I want to get as far up front as possible. As for signing stuff, I can't decide if I want one CD for May'n and Megumi to sign, or if two seperate things. There's always the Sheryl visual collection book, the CDs, and even the blu-rays. Hard decision.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
Jasonc replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Congrats on the "promotion" hahaha. I'm still a New Edwards Test Piloto. -
Thursday, it looks like May'n will be at a panel, poss signing autographs and stuff. Friday afternoon is the concert, and on Saturday, Megumi Nakagima will be probably signing autographs. I'll probably see the battle of the bands at Nokia plaza afterwards, but if anyone wants to meet up for drinks and all, I think there's a group of us going to the Yardhouse afterwards. Don't know how big it'll be, but quite a few of my friends maybe meeting there. We've met there in the past, and between the food and drinks, it's a great place. Either that, or Thursday night might be cool for a meet, but being that the concert is friday, you know the deal. Thursday and Sat will be my hardcor shopping days (posters) and maybe some cells for my wife).

rt.com is full of those rat bastard Macross Purists!!! you know what Macross Purists is short for? MP, or Military Police, and that makes this whole plot even more sinister.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
Jasonc replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'll be off to Kinokuniya for my copy. They should have quite a few when it comes out. They seem pretty knowledgable about the popularity of Macross. -
Exactly the same reason why I got mine. The only good thing about the ADV dub, was that because of oversaturation of Robotech, the ADV DVDs went on sale rather quickly, and I was able to get the entire set for about $12 a pop. Nothing beats the Animeigo set though.

I think overall, Tommy Yune is a very good artist. While I didn't like the comic superhero bodies for an anime, overall, he's done some good art, and his skills in photoshop and color are quite good. The theories you provided on why those specific types of designs are all feasible, and maybe it's a little of all of them that exist in that reason. Heck, I'd be totally fine if his reason was simply "that was the design we went for, and not everyone is going to like it, but that's what it is." Damn, now that'd be taking the issue by the proverbial balls and handling it. You must've thought this out quite through. While the similarities and metaphors are eerily similar in all that, I don't think it's more than coincidence. Nevertheless, the similarities make for interesting analogy. I'm not so quick to vilify Carl Macek. I also don't think he caused grief, although the company he worked for seems to be pretty capable of that in the corporate world. I don't know how much grief any of the past, or even current situations can really cause to any fan, unless they take all this way to personal, and it's such a big part of their life. I know some here are quite burned at not having Macross here in the states, but at this point, I'm totally happy having it only in Japan, and not in some company's that would butcher it. Robotech was made out of necessity to turn a profit on what HG had and to get it aired, and while it's not original Macross, Southern Cross, or Mospeada, things like this were more than acceptable back then. I get that, and have no issue with that, although, they should've moved on long ago. Seems they are incapable, or the fans won't let them do that.

As HG staff once said, "You know how those young Korean aninators". Now that's putting the stereo, in stereotype. Comin' at you from left and right side. If the big boob thing was what they were going for, that's fine and all, but at least don't make excuses for it. I see the big boob thing in other anime things, and sometimes it's there to add comedy, or eye candy. I get that, but why blame it on someone else, worse, even a culture? Doesn't HG sign off on the designs? I'm sure they don't just leave animators and character designers to do as they wish.

Registration and tickets bought and payed. Gonna make sure I'm in front for this one. Looks like they'll also be signing and doing all that as well. What to bring to have autographed. This is gonna be awesome. AX actually has a real reason for us to attend this year. This really shows the popularity Frontier has managed to gain without ever making here in the states. I'd like to see Yoko Kanno, or Yoshiki Fukuyama perform with Megumi and May'n. Those are my guesses as to who will be their special guest.

Gubaba, you've just been cast, proceed to the WB stage lots for costume fitting and all that. Break a leg.
