  1. I'm actually curious as to why you'd ask HG for permission to use some video in a presentation? I think you asking them is a way for them now to red flag you, and I don't think HG would've been able to do a thing about you showing video in a powerpoint presentation. Not like you're getting paid off of their work. that just came to mind about that whole "lemme ask HG for permission" thing. It was probably unnecessary. Don't be surprised if Tommy, or HG try to have panel cancelled.
  2. That would definitely be a detachment from Ulpio Minucci.
  3. If HG really tried to derail that panel, it'd probably look bad on their part, and would show how they wouldn't want that news getting out, not that they're able to, but still. I'm sure they're a bit paranoid about any type of "negative" feedback on their situations, especially if they're trying to sell off RT as a franchise to WB, or trying to get new licenses for the product. As I said earlier, any franchise worth its weight doesn't need to be defended in such a manner if it's running and operating the way it's supposed to. With good product and great fan interaction, any "naysayer" should just be shrugged off. Instead, HG does a militant job of cleaning out that issue from their site. What's more funny, is that people still think that it's us making all the noise, but in reality, it's the fans within that are sick and tired of the ho-hum, same old spin they give everything. On a side note to that, if you have to work that hard just to defend those actions and the stance of a franchise you support, is it really worth supporting? Fans would, of course, say yes, but when it stops becoming fun, maybe those fans should re-evaluate their positions. Just some food for thought.
  4. Yep, just waiting for the preorder to pop up. I'll be all over this in a heartbeat. Man, if only the movie was to have english subtitles.
  5. What's the panel gonna be called? That actually sounds like an interesting panel, although, I wonder if it would be one of those panels that would basically be just one big debate between truth and what people wanna believe is true.
  6. I picked up a couple Macross II posters that have already been posted in this thread, that's why I didn't post them. I have a ton of posters that I just haven't put up here, due to them being packed away. One of these days, I'll try to get them all out.
  7. The more I watch of the show, the more it reminds me of South Park with transforming jet knockoffs, moreso in the cheap graphics and choppy walking and music. It so needs an engrish dub.
  8. Want and hope to get one. Yeah, crazy, I know, but I think this time, I'm gonna bite the bullet on something a bit rare.
  9. For all those that went to the Macross concert, did anyone get pics of the fans in attendance? If you have some, can you please post them up here? Thanks.
  10. If they aren't butchering "Love, Live, Alive, then I would guess so.
  11. Hahaha, so the few who were bragging that it was going to be something spectacular, and that HG was probably going to mention something new, basically have proven (AGAIN) that they don't know $h!t about what they're saying, and somehow, the people and fans who are somewhat detached to the whole "HG is perfect" group can see it also. Can't say that I'm surprised, cause I'm not. Supposedly, they showed the same Sera w/ pink panties pic w/ her invid shield and gun w/ fire around, and did the same skirting of issues. OK, onto other topics within this topic...
  12. You said so much in so little. Well said brother!!!
  13. Have you heard the new Robotech drink to have on ships? It's called Zarayba!!! What's funny is that my wife makes a drink that she calls Protoculture Punch. It induces behavior and activities other than war and combat. And while I wasn't the biggest fan of Robotech's version of Southern Cross, Southern Cross in its original format is quite a bit better and easy to understand.
  14. I want to thank you guys for responding the yes or no question. I'm doing an indie quick study here, and maybe in the near future, will pay off. If more wish to chime in, that'd be great, but also, I don't wanna hijack this thread. So, in keeping with the original thread topic, if it is true that DYRL and the other series go BD, I'll have to seriously consider the new medium and buy them. I've wanted to get Zero on BD, and probably will later this year, when my 3rd raise of the year comes in in September.
  15. There's always gonna be a sense of "red flags" when new people come in, and while I am a fan of both series (Robotech up till late 80s), it's probably the only reason why I bother posting in this section. Sure, it gets heated at times because we get word of someone mouthing off a lie, or fabrication, but I've said it countless times that I have a lot of friends who are Robotech specific fans, and don't know much, if anything about Macross. What keeps us friends isn't the franchise, but the fact that good people can talk, hang out, socialize, and even disagree, and it doesn't turn into anyone having to spread rumors and lies about each other. If ever there is an issue, it's settled like how normal people settle it, and it's done. Online, a lot of the human factor is missing, and as soon as someone makes an argument in an open forum, all the alarms, bells and whistles go off. That's here, rt.com, rtx.com, hell, I can name you just about any site with a board that this happens in. I think the fact that you came in here with an understanding of both series, and don't feel the need to justify your fandom makes people at ease, and you should feel at ease. This thread is but one in a maze of so many others about toys, custom (you even posted yours here), art, conventions, and people just wanting to enjoy their hobbies. When did that become something people have to defend? Yeah, I know the HG business practices suck, but honestly, in this day and age, being able to buy the series online is totally fine with me. With the situation as it is now, I'd rather pay my extra bucks to keep Macross out of HG's hands, then have them possibly ruin it. Just my opinion. Thanks for pointing out some of what I was trying to say earlier. And...you validate another point here. I've never really had to defend my fandom of Macross. It's my number one series, and no question, or ridicule, or whatever would change that (I'm not a walk-on either, and there is a line). I'm at a point where I also don't need to defend the franchise. If the franchise is faltering, they have themselves to defend it. Any series, franchise, whatnot, should stand on its own merit. If someone wants a podcast that spits out how much they hate Macross, what is that gonna change? Is that gonna make the series worse? Is it gonna make them close up shop? Macross has more fans, product, publications, music, and word out now than just about anytime since it's beginnings. So, why do I need to get in an argument with someone over why I like and why they should? If they don't, their loss, if they do like it, then it's something in common. Same could be said with Robotech. I don't think people need to defend it either. If there are that many people who feel the need to defend their franchise, then either 1)They're taking this all too personally, or 2)Perhaps the frachise isn't doing enough to show itself approved. I guess the conclusion to all this is, criticism and dislike for something is natural. There's no point in belittling someone or getting on them for liking something different. Let them be a fan, and if they wanna stay on one side of the fence, that's cool. Those that like visiting the neighbors, all the merrier.
  16. What's strange is that those that feel they can't be fans of both, or just pick one show to revolve around, have only that to cling to. Many want to validate their fandom by outlandish claims and off-base ideas, or by manipulting the facts to fit what they want. Many just do what they do in the fandom simply because they are a fan of their show. The difference seems to be the sense of reality. Some can accept the facts that are there, and others just can't. The trends seem common, I think many large groups go through the same types of phases. As far as how many of them lead to arguments and hatred within the same group, that seems to be an odd occurrence As far as why JLS is blogging again, really only he can answer that. Even I found it surprising that the blog started again, even after the "I'm stopping cause there's nothing worth talking about." I don't really see anything to talk about still, and maybe going through the comics and series again is his way of spurring the interest again. If so good for him. If it is due to people like JT gaining popularity amongst fans and voice actors, well, I think eventually that would show. I'm going with the fact that he has renewed interest. All-in-all, the idea of one fan group not liking another is pointless. If fans are gonna go after the series itself, that's fine and game. If you're gonna criticize the company that is handling aspects of its creation, production, marketing, etc., fine (I would say to those that do, at least watch, and be familiar with what you are going to criticize). Oh well, I'm not expecting stuff to change amongst the fan groups. I'm one of those that can appreciate both. While I'm more of a Macross fan, the fact that I'm a fan of a series gives us all something in common. if you like your series, love it, or are just cool with it, enjoy it (and try not to fall off the edge into the fringe that give fans a bad name).
  17. There are a lot of Macross and Robotech fans on this site, but a lot of them stay away from this thread, as for other readers and people on this subject can't draw the lines between liking both and either being a "RT fanboy", or "Macross Purist". I'm still a Robotech fan for what it brought over, and for what it once represented. Although I don't necessarily support anything current of it, I appreciate the start of it. It was my only way to watch Macross and Mospeada back in 85, as there was no "downloading" at the time. This is something that is pretty common knowledge to "anime fans" in general. Robotech is sorta different in that it has fans that aren't anime fans, or have no idea of the "anime culture". So, Robotech as being original? No, it isn't. It's an Americanized version of what the Japanese have perfected and have been doing for a long time. And, there are some other series out there that are just as good, just not as grand as Macross and all.
  18. It seems that while Mikimoto is ever so popular and on top of his game, he's never been an artist that has a diva sydrome, where others are prone to suffer due to their art. As a matter-of-fact, he's even drawn artwork for MWcon8, I believe, and I've never heard a bad thing about him. In a position where he is in high demand, and is working on a publication where there is some sort of deadline, it's a great thing to have such a great artist, and to know that he is also catering to the companies, and fans that anticipate his wonderful work.
  19. I've started seeing more podcasts, and more blogs about Robotech over the past year than ever before, even though the fanbase has never seemed smaller and more secluded than ever before. So long as they're writing sane stuff, and being a fan, I think that's all gravy. I enjoy listening and reading from JT's podcasts, and reading Cpt. JLS's blog can be fun and informative. I think it's good that people who enjoy their fandom, whatever it is, find their outlets to talk about it. It is unfortunate that some of them have been lumped into the likes of the other podcasts and nutjobs out there. Like the variations of Macross fans that post here and throughout this site, RT fans vary the same...from casual interest, to the knowledgable, to the vocally wacked out. As I was reading through the last 2 pages, it seemed like JLS was getting a bit of heat for starting his blog again, and I was trying to figure out why. I read his blog periodically, and while it's not always my cup of tea, I have to take my hat off to him for getting his interest back in the franchise. If his blog was about badmouthing other series like Macross or others, or speaking flat out lies, and was just an essay on garbage, then yeah, I could see why people would criticize it, but to some extent, he's been one of those RT fans that actually enjoys the show. I probably disagree with him on a few opinions, but hey, that's people.
  20. Why would you compliment it like that? It's probably artwork from the new "movie"
  21. That news about Kickstart and all is fine and all, but it's sad that the need to validate Robotech's existence even when it's just a one word mention, is so prevailant. And, like this Alchu guy said, yeah, what is the point? Is it gonna make the story any better? Is Robotech gonna be some bigger name now? Does it mean that Roboteh's story is now deeper and more complex? Is Marvel now quaking in their boots cause there's some other worldly remote chance that a new Robotech comic may come? As far as the updated news, it's not anything different than what was at AX, just more filler crap to keep detractors at bay...Whatever.
  22. I always thought it was kinda funny that the secondary characters all get the Boba Fett treatment. Not only that, but then, they make all the characters have some close degree of seperation from everyone else. It's like everyone that has a hero complex all drank the same cool-aid, or all attended the same leadership conference. Maybe, they should realize ("creative team") that the Rich Hunter treatment doesn't work for every damn character. Then again, these are people that think that the fans don't even know what they want. Word to the wise, if you're working on anything that already has an established fan group, big or small, don't assume they're a bunch of idiots and don't know what they want (some of them prove they are just that, but then again general assumptions usually lead to the dark side, LOL).
  23. The cover is saying that Protoculture leads to free Robotech Trading Cards, geez, is it that hard? And they're cards made by a nude Zor Prime. They're gonna do a new side story on it due out next year. They're working on it, but they can't say anything about it.
  24. Yeah, but I wouldn't expect RT specific fans to look anywhere outside of this thread.
  25. I think the only people who'd have any real sort of hurdles, would be the brick and mortar retailers who would want these products. Even then, it hasn't stopped them, if they want it over here. I can name several places I can walk into and find Macross specific items for purchase. With the explosion of e-tailers in the last decade or so, getting access to almost anything that is Asia, Euro, or any other geographic specific product is a matter of a few clicks from a laptop. And let's face it, we've all gone the way of getting bootlegs because most of the Macross spinoffs aren't distributed here. It just really opened my eyes, seeing young/new anime fans dressing up as Macross Frontier characters at a convention, and it made me think of this. All of those fans have seen the series somehow, and at least 9 to 9.5 out of 10 watched it by downloading it, or by buying a bootleg. Even if say 10% of all Macross fans bought a DVD or BD with subs from the U.S. and from Europe, that's a decent amount of money that wouldn't have been there before. But logistics and possibilities aside, would you buy them or not?
