I have to agree on the idea of "syfy" now having wrestling. Pisses me off having to watch crap tv after anything decent. I usually pop in a DVD or bluray at that time, unless there's something on History Channel. I almost wanna yell to Rick "Put a bullet in his F!@#ing head, don't let him get you!" Good ol' sempai

I might be interested in a couple different vehicles.

I really like the launch ceremony poster. I have a few of them. I also just got my Macross Ace #7 two days ago, and that VF poster/calendar is pretty badass. Good look and functionality at the same time.

The first thing I saw in noticed in the pics was the zipper. Damn, that thing covers up a lot of the front. Wonder if there's a way to replace it with a smaller zipper guide.

HG did show that clip of him talking about robotech for like 5 years, so we know he's an old Robotech fan. I'm sure he's probably aware of the "Shadow Boobs" issue. That was a great clip, and I LMAO when I saw it. Thanks for sharing. That's him probably playing on Tommy's art.

I gotta say, this is one of the more prettier Valks Yamato has made. I love this blue color, as it's not so soft a blue, and meshes well with the red. I was happy to get this one for sure. Unfortunately, I haven't transformed mine, so no battroid pics from me.

Official MacrossWorld Convention 2010 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Wherever, whenever it's done, count me in to help as much as possible. With a new movie coming out in March or so, and Macross Ace selling well (I assume) there's a lot of stuff going on. this also includes toys, and customs which I can see a lot of people working on stuff as of late. -
No, you're not the only one. I still buy my music CDs, and I buy my Itunes songs if there's a band I don't know much about but like one or two songs. I've been wanting to learn Japanese, as not only for conversation and my hobbies, but also for work, as I get a decent bonus for learning another language. I guess the pic of the person holding the book would seem good enough, but it goes back to my post before the last one. It's not my call. I did the photoshop work of adding the script to book one with another very talented guy, but didn't do the actual translation. I'm not one to undermine this person's hard work and time they put into translating for this project, and as I've gotten several pms of people asking to send it to them secretly, I simply can't do that. When they announce the setup for getting it to people, it'll be a great day for all. I just hope that people realize that having the official release is something no translated and computer screen or printed out version can replace. I hope those waiting for a translated version stop waiting, and support the product. The rewards will come from it.

I'll start working on it tomorrow, see if my wife can help out and get something to you.

That's why I wondered if we should save opinions and such for the day after. Since Tom is starting it, he should probably start a new thread on that, so that all is clear. I've since dl'ed all the series on my HD, so I'm ready to go.

I'm pretty sure that's been the reason why we haven't put out the translated book one yet. But then there's the dilema of those "unscrupulous" individuals who will charge for it. Do we put it out to shut them down, or do we stick to not making it available? It's too bad that putting up a scanlation just wouldn't help spawn people to buy it, instead of keeping people from doing so. I dunno, maybe setting up something for people who already bought it maybe, but then, do you really know if they bought it? The trust issue needs to be there, and you'd probably need to know them well enough to know they won't post it up freely for everyone.

If you want, my wife is a graphics designer, and I am familiar with various squadron logos, so if you wanna give us some time, I can see if she would like to come up with something. Let me know if there's anything specific you want, and do you want a hi or lo res version? You can let me know here or pm me, or through the aria site. I'd love to take a crack at it.

I heard there was some group wanting to do it, but I doubt it'd be free from them. I think that kinda sucks, because not only is the book still available for purchase at book stores, but they're trying to make a profit off of someone else's work. I don't know how long the production run of the manga go on for, but perhaps after book one is no longer in stores, maybe the scanlation will come out. It's not my call, so I can't say when it will be available. I know people are asking for it, but in trying to be respectful of the franchise, give it some time.

I absolutely love the suit designs. They look like they have real world application, and make sense, and they aren't skin tight, which is one thing I don't like seeing when watching some sci-fi anime. It's one thing that Mikimoto did very well, was designing suits and outfits that made sense more or less. It's good to see the tradition carried on in this fan project.

The sad thing, is that those ideas are better than what Robotech has become, and the story more exciting than Shadow Chronicles. Stop giving them ideas They are paying people over there good money, so they should be at a desk working hard to come up with riveting stuff, stuff that makes the fans and community excited, not question why some of the staff there are even employed.

We should probably start with the show in chronological order, and start the discussion in an official thread for discussion of the viewing parties. I also vote for monday through friday, as sometimes there's just usually a bit going on during the weekends. Just my vote. I found the entire CA DVD versions subbed on anime suki, and I'm currently downloading the entire series, ovas, prequel, and movie stuff.

Pleeeeaaaasssseeee someone, anyone have news on this? I really don't care if he's super articulated with 1000 different movements, or just a couple, having a Britai figure that doesn't look like the Matchbox one in 1/60 would be perfect.

It was a T-Rex toy kit, that I believe was sold in limited amounts at the wonderfestivals in Japan. From what I know, they are pretty hard to come by, but may still be somewhat accessible through ebay and other auction sites. They are a bit pricey, but well worth the buy, if you want enemy stuff to go along with your Valks. He just needs a leader now, so where is that Britai figure Yamato was going to do.

I wanted to thank Tom for coming over and hanging out the other day. I got to watch it for the first time, and must say, it's definitely grandios on drama and story. The first episode was full of action, drama, and a lot of story. You can definitely tell it's a large story, and 110 eps. seems like it would fit just right for a story this big. If the central anime series is on bittorrent, I'll probably download all of it to my external HD now, and prep for the viewing. What are the terms of viewing? Mon-Fri? And do we discuss the watched episode the day after so that people have a chance to watch and not get spoilers? Hahaha, I guess I'm saying, count me in.

While I'm off of work, I may start to put this together, along side another project I am working on. I'm gonna test the paint on a spare HDP part and see what paint, primer will hold on this material. I'll probably use Enamel, as that's usually tougher, so I'll probably start that next monday,,,maybe.

Thanks Graham for the review. Like in your review, I'm still on the fence, and that, say, $50 to $80 off would've made me jump on this one. Maybe if I find one later on at a lower rate. If not, oh well, better for me. The toy looks awesome though.

Thanks for the comments all...To answer this question, I used styrene rods and bored some space into the joint holes. Once the styrene rod holes fit the pegs of the joints, they were set into the bored out locations. this made the joints quite solid, and the soldier is quite functional as a toy. That took the most time. When I first started fitting joints in the sockets, I did realize they were a bit large. Exo found the styrene to make it work, so with his help, we got both our figures done that way.

I'm really torn on this one. There are some things I definitely like about it, but some things that just don't make it look like a "Macross" Valkyrie. To me, it looks Something that you'd see in a video game, like Gradius, or R-Type. Looks a little to "spacy" for me in some ways. On the other hand, in those realms, it looks pretty damn cool. In finding out that the red/white one is Alto's, it seems a bit too fast to have such a drastic change in Valkyrie design.

That's definitely a question that only a staff member could answer, mainly Tommy Yune. As creative director, and someone who did mention working first hand on this thing, the responsibilit of final product animation wise would fall on him. My opinion was that he was too busy putting a spin job on other issues and too busy hyping up the movie, than actually working on the details of it. Then again, it also doesn't help that they took a semi-decent studio, and didn't make a decent monetary investment into the product. As it's been pointed out, they probably knew that it'd sell anyways because it had the Robotech name on it, so to them, it didn't matter that it had any real quality to it. In regards to Toynami, they have the ability to put out good toys, but I think they are behind when it comes to more complex engineering. Then again, it seems like Toynami doesn't have the staff that say, Bandai or Yamato have. You also can't count the MPC Cyclones, or the Megahouse ride armors, because those were done by Japanese companies, and just licensed over here under Toynami. I don't think Toynami is a bad company...their toys are hit and miss, more miss on the transformable stuff, but they are still young in that dept. To get a good product, you have to invest money, and I don't think Robotech is their bread and butter. On your last point about the product, yeah, I agree with you on the merchandise. Seems the RT staff are now too busy putting out fires than actually trying to really indulge the fans. For example, the website. The site has never been updated with a new look, EVER. That alone would give them more traffic. Then, as they can't do Shadow Rising, or anything of major importance, and they don't have enough interest in the U.S. to print their comics in their own backyard, why not do an online version of shorts? Hahaha, now I sound like one of the disgruntled fans on rt.com. Truth is that I don't care anymore like I used to, but I had been making that suggestion back 5 or 6 years ago. They probably don't do it because someone other than Tommy suggested it first, like many other fans have as well.

That work definitely would've been better than Shadow Chronicles. I think everyone's got a "vision" of how they'd like to have seen a sequel to Robotech go, and one's perfect sequel is someone else's craptastic work. I guess the weight of it all comes out to the ratios of how many like it vs. how many don't. RTSC probably had a bit too many people not like it. I would have been more interested in seeing Shadow Force much more. I think the only problem you may not have been able to escape is the cheap animation that it was/would've been made into. HG just cut too many corners in RTSC. Yeah the story sucked, but at least they coulda had great animation. No, they didn't have that, but at least they coulda had some great action scenes. No, not there either, but the characters were good, right? No, the characters sucked as well as the script, so basically if you fix one problem, there's too many others to bring it down. Shadow Force would've at least had 10 times the chance at being better. Just my opinion, and it's only that, no right or wrong about it.
