Alright, found the stuff, I'll be getting it ready, and sending it out probably tomorrow or Wednesday. You're good to go.

Solidworks 2011. I've tried Autodesk 123D, but I have to play with it more to get a more firm grasp on it. All the same, since I'm working with Solidworks now, I might as well streamline what I want to do with this, then figure if the other one is easier or not. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with the results, and will be getting these prototyped, cleaned, and will be part of the custom valks I do with the blank 1/60 Yamato kits.

Hmmm, the t.v show supercedes the movie, and the movie supercedes the t.v. show, since both are supposedly canon. They're going to implode on each other, and cancel each other out.

Thanks for the compliment. I don't have one, but there's places you can submit your models to get done.

Official MacrossWorld Convention 2010 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
I think the consensus this year was to keep this year simple, and after a tentative date was pretty much set, I can't really say what happened afterwards. In anycase, holding of till next year for the official convention seems like what's going to happen. I know there were some people willing to host something, perhaps that would be an option for something small at least? -
OK, so after seeing the possibilities of 3D modeling through a MW member here, I decided to give it a shot. I got a crash course in basic 3D modeling, and decided to jump into in mostly for making toy accessories and all that. Anyways, I've been working with this program for about a week, and I decided to make some missiles, both real world, and from Macross. I made these 3 wing attached weapons: the Paveway II 2000lb bomb, the jamming pod featured on the VEA-1 Platypus, and the MPBMS multi-missile launcher from Macross Frontier. For you 3D modelers, your comments are always welcome, let me know what you think. I'm also putting them up for sale, and created an interest thread for them. It's up in the for sale section, or you can just click on my signature. Anyways, enjoy. I'm working on more this week, too, so I hope to have pics of more.

This is why you're not supposed to ask questions about trivial stuff in Robotech. You get interpretations for stuff that isn't answered. As well, when it is answered, like in the Tommy comics (Tomics), you gotta think, either the story holds, and the RDF/REF, Southern Cross are just stupid imbeciles, or it doesn't hold, and is just a proverbial swiss cheese of plot holes. Either way, the quality idea factory for this franchise has been long gone from HG for years and years.

I think not so shining sales put the Phalanx on hold for a long time, but with the success of the kit toys (1/2000 SDF-1, Regult, and the VF-1 kits), they feel confident enough to put it out as one of those kits. I doubt they'd do the Spartan, but if they do, I'm thinking it'd be one of these build-it-yourself toy kits.

Welcome to the Yunieverse, where things that didn't make much sense get even more convoluted and full of crap than before.
-
I'm not saying Die cast is worthless, but needs to be put in parts that benefit the toy, not hamper it. Good example is the shoulder section. The fact that people are complaining about some of that section, as well as the legs loosening on their own isn't using die cast in the right spots. I can't say anything about this toy, as none of us have it yet, but hearing the complaints is a reason for concern. I have the Alto on preorder, so hopefully we can all just be happy about the new design, and have nothing to be upset about.

That's kinda how just about every quirk and plot hole is explained away. I get a good kick out of seeing some of the lunatic fringe and others, argue about what the best answer for crap like that is. How about the saying "The simplest answer is often the right answer". In this case, it's dialogue error that doesn't fit the animation. As for the mounds, I guess the lame explanation is the place got abandoned after it got built, and somehow a process that takes hundreds, if not thousands of years got done in maybe a decade? I gotta say, even as a kid, watching this in 85, and hearing that, never made sense to me, but somehow, it makes sense to a bunch of people as adults. Oh well.

It seems that one of Bandai's major flaws, is that they still seem to think that diecast in these types of toys is actually a good thing. The fact is, it's not. It weighs down the toy, and with moving parts, has a tendency to loosen up over short periods of time. This is where Yamato has it right. I'm not going to trash Bandai over Yamato, but Bandai needs to step into the 21st century, and start using good plastic and A LOT less, or no die cast. It only makes the item heavier and loose, and with manufacturing technology today, doesn't offer any benefits for the aesthetic portions of a toy.

I've only owned 3 or 4 1/48s in my lifetime, so I just never had the interest. And...since most valks are in 1/60, gotta go with the fuller line, I guess. Can't wait to see yours when you get started. As far as next MWcon, if there is one next year, it'll be there, done or not.

This is a sorta bump and an update. I'm still working on this project, but now using the beauty of 3D modeling, I will be making some of these parts through that. I've only been doing this for maybe a week or so, but the accessories are coming out well, and I'm going to be putting up an interest thread for a weapons set shortly. So far, I've had some success creating a 1/60 2000lb. Paveway II bomb, and then a MPBMS multi missile system from Macross Frontier. Next up is the jamming pod for this project, and then set 1 will be available. But, in conclusion, PROJECT IS NOT DEAD.

Perhaps, but I've said my piece, and the discussion has pretty much run its course. I was gonna say, since Shadow Chronicles is a "movie", perhaps comparing Maia to Sheryl in the movie would be more comparable, but at that point, it's just overkill. My wife just happened to check the rt.com site, and saw that they are trying to get rt fans to sit at the theater and watch the documentary. I doubt this, but, is anyone going? It's on a monday, and there's football, so that's a no go for me.
-
Maia doesn't come off as a "tough gal", but more of a lifeless, contrived, "I have to be tough because that's how they made me" type character. To add, if a couple witty remarks makes Maia that tough, then you should probably watch more shows to get an idea. And yes, the character is pretty unsightly, especially when compared to many, many other characters other than Macross characters. As far as you needing a facepalm, I concur. You may need to sit and figure some things out. Technically speaking, Sheryl is a character with a stronger resolve than Maia. Maia fights in what 2 battles, and spins her Alpha in circles, and that's supposed to equal tough? Sheryl fights in a few space battles as well, sings, and does it while being under the weather. Now, inserting my opinion here, that would make Sheryl a much more desirable character to have in a story. I don't see there being anymore debate in that, but I think the case is pretty sealed.
-
Hmmm, I'd normally say that seeing Maia as a better character is just an opinion, but either 1)it seems you're sore that Robotech's characters and art just doesn't match up, 2) You're upset that Sheryl does look better than Maia, being that she's a Macross character, or 3) You honestly do think Maia looks better and you just have really bad taste. I don't think the Maia character is terrible, but comparing the two, they are light years apart.

It's not that weird, just kinda like talking to sand. The only way to get THE BEST copy of DYRL with GOOD translations is to download the HD DVD, and attach translated subs that are also on bittorent on your own, then make your own DVD of it. I highlighted the important parts of that to sum up what several people have been saying. The other option, that has been stated as well, is you can just look for the HK bootlegs with the half-assed translations, and more grainy picture.

WTF!!! This must be a post in Halloween tradition, designed to make all your head exploding to us (I can now hear Nightmare Before Christmas songs, "This is Halloween, this is Halloween...Haloween Halloween"

What I find funny, is that HG thinks that these complaints and many peoples' dissatisfaction with the franchise because they "Love Robotech so much." At this point, my response is, "No, we criticize and make fun of it because quite a few of us really don't like it as it is now." My fandom stops after I'd say '95. I stuck with it, hoping it'd turn into something, but the crap that's been generated can easily turn someone against it.

Whether it's the final product, or whatever someone wants to label it to be as accurate as they want, I gotta wonder if Bandai even listens, or is aware of consumer issues such as the paint flaking? It makes me wonder if Bandai just doesn't care, or if they maybe feel they're too big to listen to these complaints.

I think it takes AT LEAST 10 episodes, before the series really starts getting into the real plot, or at maybe 12 episodes, but for all it's quirkiness, it's fun to watch. There are some episodes where it does get more intense, and they start getting into story of the Protoculture, and so-on.

With some styrene work, the chest part could've been done to look accurate, but it's a decent job. I wouldn't call it Lana though.

I don't think that question is really answered. Also, there seemed to be 3 groups that had their own directives in the story. One seemed to be Grace and her other mental entities that wanted to control the Vajra and create a universe where humans transcended their static bodies, and could know all, and have a type of omnipotence that the PC didn't have. There's Mr. Bilrer (sp?), who wanted to use the physical aspects of the Vajra, to create a monopoly on shipping, transportation, and information sharing, by being able to use their fold quartz to negate the fold faults. Then there's the people like Ozma, Alto, and the heroes, who want to save and preserve humanity as it is, and create peace for all the races. At least that's my quick take on it. It's been awhile since I last watched through it all, but I think that's some of the bare bones of it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I wanna see a suped up VA-3, perhaps with engines as arms for extra speed, or a custom fast pack to go with it.
