SpacePirateNeko replied to Phalanx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I work at LAX to pay for school/apt, to make a long story short, ive met everyone. Some of my teachers at Gnomon are well known in production design/games etc also but not sure if that counts. I met Ray Harry Hausen at school a few weeks back he came to show off his lifes work. I have pics of me with alot of bands and of course ive met Kawamori and mikimoto! -

Excuse me if this was mentioned before but i was pretty excited about this one. The other day i dropped by Barnes and Nobles Near manhattan beach and aviation blvd...near the Fry's. I found this incredible book for only 12 bucks and this was far from the only book going this cheap . There were plenty of great HUGE refrence books selling at amazing prices. So i was looking it up online to post a pic for you guys and i came upon a website where someone found teh same thing so i guess its at most BnN's. Try and grab it if you can ..heres that link http://cybermodeler.com/hobby/ref/bn/book_bn_20th_air.shtml

Look Of New Vs Old Comic Books
SpacePirateNeko replied to jardann's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh how i hate how everyone tries to draw "manga" style these days but instead of looking liek manga it looks like some horrid cross bred lab experiment that more closesly resembles "fan art" on some final fantasy web site gallery section. Ive never been huge into superhero books anyway but i think years ago where as the paper might now be better the artist used the papers faults to their advantage. There was much more original stylisms, more artist tried to use composition and shadow to their advantage. I miss all the old side rack comics. I miss heavy metal magazine...matter fact i just picked up a whole ton off ebay for a few bucks. Grabbed a whole bunch of savage sword of conan too. Matter fact the art and stories in the new conan line are very good.. -

What is lying on your workbench?
SpacePirateNeko replied to Tuffskull's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Thats what i was saying The top part of the leg and the bottom part are two seperate pieces I could basically turn the whole leg around and thus have the pistons on the inside but that would reveal the top hinge on teh backside of the leg which is really ugly and unnatural. so i opted to just leave the legs turned pistons out to hide a worse appearance.....the top parts of the leg are on correctly the bottoms arent As for dissasembling....honestly not worth it The glue i use melds plastic together and if it was within the day i could prob rip it apart but thats been glued for months. besides the model was only 9 bucks =) ill build another one someday -

SpacePirateNeko replied to Tuffskull's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Not Really ...see the upper and lower parts of the legs are seperate pieces ...so i had the option of making one leg look obviously backwards by having it be the only one with the piston on the outside. The part of the upper leg has an indentation and a really "hey this is a model !" look to it and was meant to be hidden so i didnt want them showing and opted to just have the pistons on the outside thus making t look like only one leg was screwy. ie the only leg which was actually put together the right way is the bad leg lol eiher way it doesnt bother me too much its a pretty tall model and only someone into hardcore star wars would know off the bat they belong inside. -

AT AT completed this is my first airbrushed model. Youll notice one of the legs is backwards. This is due to generic instructions on Amt's part and because i generally have all the parts off the tree when i airbrush em. The top of the leg and the bottoms they join to all look identical making it easy to overlook that when combined later on with the "piston" it could possibly be aimed n the wrong direction. Oh well i didnt discover it until the end and wasnt going to rip the thing apart. The weathering was done with mostly pastels since the colors are pretty basic and simple here. Next up either a monogram f9f panther or i might keep it simple for now and make a tie defender and b wing since both require only two colors and im just getting used to the airbrush -
Most Ridiculous Amount Of Money You Have Spent
SpacePirateNeko replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
300 dollars or so for The Sky yoshitaka amano collection complete in box with everything present and in pristine condition. -
Nah not at all, Sakaguchi said himself during the making of FF7 that they decided to use an artist whos work was more material and could be better translated to polygons now that they moved to 3d. He also stated that amanos work was too complicated to make into 3d characters on the current generations hardware. Well that was then.....this is now and amanos still not involved in character design. I think the series kind of lost its magic for me when a.) They dropped Amano b.) Uematsu decided that in order to make good music you now had to use full blown arrangements using every faux instrument and sample you could think of instead of just making great melodies and music. Of course B.) can be said about most video game music these days, i know when i get into game design im gonna try and get myself into the music department too and im gonna make sure to first severely limit myself to what i can use to make music with . Then once i have an amnazing piece of music .... ill arrange it. As for amanos current ff contributions since 6...im sure thats based more on friendship and a reliable paycheck then anything else. Everything artwise is already done before he steps in and adds anything ( yes even 9 )which is mostly used for advertisement only and for the title icon. Im a huge amano fan and hes mentioned a few times before how he would gladly like to work on FF again.

Nomura isnt making this game...thankfully. He has to be one of the absolute worst character designers in the history of mankind. Square went down teh drain the day they decided mr amano wasnt "trendy" enough to design for them anymore. Now with that said lemem clear the air about the "gay" look. I dont think tidus looked gay , he just looked like an annoying modern rock listening assnugget. No one in ten had any design that made any coherent sense whatsoever. I understand limitless creativity but being an artist that is trying to make a world believeable you have to at least have yoru world make sense. Half the clothes people wore in ff10 looked like it was floating above the peoples bodies, it looked like it was designed by a retard. No, it looked like it was designed to sell to certain markets. I see absolutely nothing wrong with effeminate or ambiguios characters, i love em...but they need to be balanced by characters of differing personality types. The last few games the characters have had NO personalities at all ( sans 9 ). There has always been effeminate and ambiguos characters in ff....i mean just look at some of amanos work and remember thats the character not the sprite they were limited to. The problem is back then there really was never any main character the entire story flowed around...not even in 4 with cecils stand all the characters were important. That made the story and characters much more unique, now teh focus seems to be on the one "guy" and everyone else is a bit player limiting the stories personality being based off the single protagonist. Ok with all that said ive played both the demo and the game ff xii and its pretty damn good, The character design is actually interesting and the storyline is alot deeper , darker and more intense then the previous few goofy ones.
