I have Hikaru and Roy's weathered VF-1S and both have rainbow canopy. -
Yes the cockpit opens (there's pictures all over the net). Seems solid plastic, don't have mine yet.

1/60 ver 2 VF-1A Angelbird and M&M. Was low on funds back then when these came out.

I'd buy multiples of the VFX-2 ver.

Yamato used black screws for the 1/48 I don't know why they changed to chrome for the v2 VF-1.

I like 1/48's fighter proportions but I really dislike the wide canopy when viewed from the front. It's not that the new 1/60 ruinned the 1/48 for me but it's better proportioned in all three modes and the fit and finish is superior. I kept all my 1/48's, Roy's VF-1S wearing GBP, Strike VF-1S Hikaru. Super VF-1A Hikaru, Cannon Fodder wearing GBP, Low Viz I and Low Viz II. These are the essentails for me. -
Now that you've mentioned it, it seems so. They seem to rotate 180 degrees.

I actually like the proportions on the toy more than the lineart. The chest armor is also bigger but it looks very menacing!!

Maybe the intakes and conventional engines were used while the VF-1 was being tested?? I keep them closed too, like them better this way.
