The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Cool. I'll be looking forward to your review of him and the combined form. Luckily I have some MMC Reformatted bots coming my way this week, or I might have fallen off my "no combiners" wagon. But if I were to fall off, I think I like Maketoys' style the most given what I've seen in this thread.- 9128 replies

Add me to the group who would be double, triple excited to see Arcadia give Max some love and attention. In fact, I would take a DYRL Max 1S or a TV Max 1J. Either one would be a wonderful surprise this year. I'm not picky.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Caught myself up to episode 5 of Luluco. It's over-the-top zany and endearing---very much a Trigger series. And speaking about zany reminds me that I need to rewatch Gurren Lagann soon. I'm a behind on my first viewing of Macross Delta. I'll be watching episode 3 tonight. -
As an Orguss fan, I think it is worth the price. For a more casual fan, I wouldn't want to assume too much because the price is high. The toy is definitely well built and comes out of the box with only a few minor niggles. I would rank the quality well above bar. But you don't have to take my word for it, here are some other opinions: Noel remarked that the Orguss reminded him of a Bandai DX release. Here is his review where he stood the Orguss next to a v2 VF-1: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=40648&p=1191112 DarrinG also provided some excellent photos with a few more opinions on it: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=40648&p=1192052 Later on, he adds some with Tamashii explosion effects.

For a prototype it looks okay to me. The extra bulk makes me thing that there is actual armor on there to protect the occupant. That being said, I wouldn't mind a shave here and there to add tone to the sculpt and remove some of the exaggerated blocky bits. Maybe seeing it in color will help too.

For me, I'm used to MMC's other Reformatted bots, so Hexy's lines fade into the background. Maybe they are more prominent on the Supernova or Shadow Emissary version, but that's just a guess. Edit: too much repetition.- 9128 replies

If you like six-changers, then Hexy is a fun one. Personally, I like to figure out the fan transformations that people share over on TFW. In bot mode, he's half a head taller than MP-10. I think Hexy looks good in any Transformers display or even solo on his own. He can stand with Masterpieces or with smaller classics, or you can keep him segregated with the other MMC Reformatted bots, if that's your thing. I picked up my Hexatron late, so I have the R-01C version which comes with additional paint apps and chrome. Mine doesn't have the swords/sheaths or the hubcaps that turn into Shuriken. Also, there is no helmet gimmick in bot mode.- 9128 replies

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
technoblue replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I recently finished collecting the FOC Dinobots that Planet X released, minus Paddles who I am not going to get. Here's a quick and dirty photo that I took of Neptune (Sludge) with my cell this morning. He's in bot mode showing off his light piping. I have him set up near my desktop. When the sun is in just the right spot, his eyes really start to give off an intense blue glow. -

And if you need it, there is link in the upper right corner on Mandarake that switches the language from Japanese to English (or vice versa).

Uh oh. My wallet is hiding because Bandai is bringing out the awesome.

I think that's something for each person to decide individually. For me, it is that much better than my Yamato, which is the older v2.0 DYRL Roy strike set and came complete with brittle shoulders and cracked hinges. I discovered Jenius's master list of safe and unsafe Valkyries later. Unfortunately, by the time I learned about it the cost to replace mine with a safe Yamato version had already started to get silly: http://anymoon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Arcadia-VF-1J-30th-12.jpg The Arcadia version may use white paint that's fun to debate, but the Arcadia mold feels more in line with the safe Yamato 2.2 versions that have improved plastic quality and engineering. And for me, the MSRP is more of a bargain. If you find a similarly priced box set on Mandarake for example, with like new super/strike parts and Valkyrie, it usually only lasts an instant.

I went with cdjapan; I only need one cannon fodder and I didn't want to burn the midnight oil. Their pre-order is still up for those interested in getting one (or picking up another).
-
It's Roy. It's got that pink glow. But I can't say no to a VF-1 box set that includes Strike Parts, especially if I can avoid eBay prices to get it. Keep 'em coming Arcadia. My Yamato DYRL Roy will probably become a parts Valkyrie if this turns out as solid as Arcadia's first Roy VF-1 release.

Until recently, this was not my experience with FedEx. They are strict when it comes to trade regulations and have charged tax on higher valued shipments in the past. The tax free threshold was raised from $200 to $800 this year providing some relief. My favorite Doctor Who 1/6-scale import store bigchiefstudios.co.uk uses FedEx exclusively and posted the news in March. http://www.bigchiefstudios.co.uk/latest-news/changes-to-united-states-import-charges

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I added a few titles to my Crunchyroll queue today: Space Patrol Luluco (Trigger's short form anime for the season) The first episode had me laughing, which is a good sign. Joker Game (following up on the recommendations here) High School Fleet (looks interesting) Bakuon!! (motorcycles, women, and exclamation points!!) -
No worries. I thought the timing of our messages was a funny coincidence.

Nice! Your experience is exactly the same as mine, atreyu. I posted pictures two pages back. Excellent. Congrats on the Roy!

I'm beginning to think everyone will get that silly stand from N-Y. So far, two of us have eyes on the stand. KB has yet to look inside the box. KB, ignore Morgan Freeman and look in the box!

Allspark Pictures and the Hasbro Cinematic Universe
technoblue replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Seriously. Nah. Animated Jem had more fans in the late 1980s than the crap movie had by far. Hasbro and Universal would have made more money by taking two hours from the old cartoon, splicing it together, and making that the movie instead of doing what they did to the property.- 32 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

I don't recall. It might have been, but I started watching Beautiful Bones over the winter months. I regret to say that I have yet to finish the latest arch of Bakemonogatari. I keep meaning to, but then I get distracted. I fully expect Keith to pop in at any moment and reprimand me for not doing my due Bakemono diligence. Regarding Kizu, didn't AniplexUSA release the movie on this side of the Pacific only recently? I think it was brought to select theaters in February? I think the Japanese BD is due out in July. The story had convenient rules which helped the MC toward his goal. And that's okay, but for me that same convenience broke the illusion from time to time. Being a twenty-something man who is forced to relive your childhood shouldn't be something that you can adapt to so easily and, even as you try to adapt, when you ultimately mess up the people who know you well shouldn't be as clueless about how your behavior has changed. This story needed that, though, and forgave those logical leaps. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I hated it. I liked it for what it was, but it wasn't a great time travel story, IMO. It was a better story about friendship and the bonds that bring people together. I do agree that if it had a longer run time (another season, or something) it might have been able to give the audience more satisfying timey-wimey transitions. -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I stuck with Bubuki Buranki. The issue that I have with it and God Eater is pacing. Both shows seem to have a great potential for story beneath the surface, but they are having difficulty tapping into it. It doesn't help, either, when a whole season passes by and things only start to pick up in the final episodes. BBK, especially had some major character development that it just laid out and then left unresolved. Last season, my favorites were Gate, Durara!!, and Beautiful Bones (a fun detective show). Erased...I really like it, but I may have a bias against it because I'm such a fan of Steinz;Gate. I loved how the former anime tackled the butterfly effect more, and used humor to relieve the tension. Erased did things differently, which is okay, but as the story got caught up in its complicated twists and turns the tension built up and...well, no spoilers. I do think that the ending was well done. I haven't finished watching Gundam: IBO or Ushio and Tora, but I do plan to finish both at some point. I won't be dropping them. -
Evolution Toy - VF-2SS Valkyrie I 《MACROSS II ~LOVERS AGAIN~
technoblue replied to joppewo's topic in Toys
I'm happy to have mine. I do wish that I had waited for the sales to buy Sylvie's Valkyrie, but hindsight is twenty-twenty on that. I don't mind being a bit foolish to feed my nostalgia just this once. Having said that, I am hoping that a different company will pick up the VF-2SS down the road. I would buy an improved version in an instant. The scale doesn't matter as much to me as getting dynamic articulation and a fighter mode that looks cleaner. For instance, don't leave everything hanging out like ET did. Tuck away the Battroid head and find some clever method to hide the swing bar mechanism.
