Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
technoblue replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
It looks like eBay has the best prices, although some sellers are more dependable than others. On TFW there is a list of good sellers: bababobo00712, smartlulup2010, 9151987, to name a few. On-line shops like sirtoys.com and tf-direct.com also carry stock and have good reputations. You will be paying a little more shopping at a store, though. Depending on which Prime you want, it seems the premium is $10-$30(USD). -

Wow. Those prices for Upsized Prime are something else. I could get MPP-10, MPP-10B, and pre-order MPP-10W and still pay less than what I paid for the reissued Takara MP-10 that I picked up from BBTS in 2013. And even with today's prices for MP-10, it's almost like getting two for one. Wait. I think I just talked myself into going big. -

You're not alone in flip-flopping. I was about to post that I caved and picked up MP Inferno at AE. What can I say? Curiosity got the better of me, and I'm really interested to see how Takara engineers the joints on Inferno. I hope they are not loosey goosey like they were on Shockwave. The hips on my Shockwave, especially, had little if any side to side friction out of the box and required some coats of polish to help him keep certain poses without doing the splits. Getting more ratchets into Inferno's hips will help since he is supposed to be able to carry other car bots like Red Alert.- 16669 replies

When discussing toy collections in general, I don't think there is a norm. Completionists tend to be cut from a different cloth, and I would agree more with JB0 on that point. But a mainstream collector doesn't have to go to such extremes. It seems easier (both on the mind and the pocket book) to buy what you like. If you are talking about displays, I think personal taste is hard to lock down too. There are those fans who have nice cabinets and shelves and stack their same-same robots like suits of armor. That works for some, sure. Others are into building creative dioramas, even taking their toys outdoors, and don't mind mixing it up. I like those displays because they can tell a story, whether it is mimicking the cartoon or just for fun/interjecting humor (like Treatment tends to do). I don't think there is one common method that trumps the rest. But again, my opinion is one of how many? I'm sure everyone has a slightly different spin. As for Inferno, AE appears to have hit that pre-order sweet spot. Now I'm back to being tempted by a double dip, with my final concern being for the quality of this release. The first in-hand reports on Backdraft at TFW are indicating poor QC issues (stress marks, paint scuffing)... and that isn't comforting. : (- 16669 replies

Untitled Neil Blomkamp directed Alien project
technoblue replied to Kanedas Bike's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
IIRC, the original plan was to ignore everything after Aliens... On the bright side, it seems to have Cameron's blessing: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/43961/weaver-cameron-talk-aliens-a-fifth-one And so we wait. -

Toy Dojo sent out my copy of Willis before the holiday, and he arrived with the mail on Tuesday--very cool figure. Backdraft shipped out today and should be here sometime next week. With what I was paying after shipping, I didn't feel right canceling and changing over to the official one. The price tipped the scale for me this time around. Maybe the exchange rate will be in a better place again when Takara gets to Grapple?- 9128 replies

Sure! I'm on board with those too. Arcadia, you have your orders for the next 10 years (fit in the TV SDF-1 too while you're at it)
-
Peace. The hip issue is the most problematic issue, definitely. There were a number of other issues that got annoying too, IIRC: The retail color of the 0D did not match Arcadia's initial painted prototype (which most members preferred here at MacrossWorld). The 0D had one of its intake warning markers misaligned. The 0D/0A both had an issue with the heat shield. The sliding metal pin mechanism wasn't flush and could scrape the canopy during transformation. The one thing that I love about this forum is that most of the hardware defects have well-documented fixes. You can fix the hips following ChaoticYeti's guide. You can also fix the heat shield problem with a flat, thin metal file (and I think this also has a mini-tutorial). But it is very disappointing that the 0A/0D didn't get the same treatment as the 0S with their own fixed releases, especially when including the 0D's paint/printing issues. I think only capable modelers like wmcheng have been able to tackle correcting those niggles so far.

Macross Collectibles Market Watch - Current Auction/Store SOLD prices
technoblue replied to jvmacross's topic in Toys
It could be a different item. The Mandarake site networks the different Mandarake store locations in Japan. For convenience, items that have the same condition (new/used) are grouped together under one listing, and customers can click through these to see which stores have the item in stock. For example, if I click on the SOLD ¥20,000 listing then that shows the VF-1S Low Vis was available in two other stores (one for ¥22,000 and the other for ¥35,000). All three are sold. -
Macross Delta is a new gateway for that chesty, j-pop-a-rockin' Valkyrie aesthetic. If there was ever a time for Arcadia to join in with more Macross 7 toys, now's the time. They could even use it as an excuse to update and reissue the standard VF-17 and VF-11 molds. Anyway, these are day one pre-orders for me if Arcadia ever decides to risk it.

Hm. I don't see the correlation. IMO, if you are confident in your own fixes and your own experience, then the experiences of other members shouldn't be in conflict, even if those experiences are different from your own. No one in this thread is pretending. Everyone realizes that the QC issues are a big deal at this price point. Those of us with good copies are just sharing that they do exist out there in the wild. Geesh. Can't we support everyone in this thread?
-
LoL! Welcome to MacrossWorld, unknown. Personally, I'm glad to read that you are enjoying these and I love the group photo! I've had good luck with all three of mine, as well--no need to perform any hip surgery to date. I don't know if that will balance the cautionary/negative rhetoric, but there are those of us with good toys out there. My Zero Valkyries are welcome additions to my 1/60-scale collection. I'm excited to see what Arcadia has planned as its next big project after the reaction armor, whether that is more Zero stuff or whether they move on to something new, it's all good to me.

I had a chance at amiami, but missed it and went with hlj. I thought I missed that one for a couple minutes because of the hang time between when I ordered and when hlj sent my confirmation e-mail. Welp...happy Friday, everyone!

Tron will get its day in the limelight again, just give it time. I mean Johnny Depp got another shot at reprising his role as the Mad Hatter from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland in James Bobin's Alice Through the Looking Glass and who was really asking for that? For Tron, fans might even get lucky and Disney might put a good wide-eyed creative team behind it. I would love to see a sequel that evolves the metaphors behind the fantasy of the original film. I thought legacy was more of a special effects tease without any substance or weight. And given that the real world has seen so many technological advancements between the two Tron films it was disappointing to see mostly fluff. Yeah. I definitely agree with JB0 on this: there's potential with Tron but only if someone want to develop a real story.

Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar short film
technoblue replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
For anyone else who is as behind on the details of the Axanar case as I am, this site is required reading: http://axamonitor.com/doku.php?id=start Apologies if this was posted before, but I was surprised by some of the info that's now public. Dobber, you were right. It seems we were not getting the whole truth in the official backer updates, and that is upsetting. I'm not sure what the project team's ultimate goal was now. Did they really want to make another Axanar fan film? The axamonitor site is dangerous in a good way because (like the discussion here) it got me asking questions again.- 94 replies

I've been looking at Insecticons lately and can't decide between Fans Toys' and Badcube's releases. Dangard Ace, what do you think of the Fans Toys' bugs and have you run into any of the same issues with Forager that others have noted over on TFW?- 9128 replies

Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar short film
technoblue replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't know Alex Peters personally, and I certainly don't have an axe to grind with him. I also donated to both campaigns and I am well aware of Axanar's financial information. I just read it differently and avoid the negative bent. It saves me a lot of headache to believe that Axanar Productions was posting that information in good faith to be open about what they were doing with the funding they received. It keeps things simple and reasonable. Trying to believe the conspiracy, IMO, makes things more complex. But I do think it speaks volumes that the naysayers decided to twist the information into something that it wasn't. And I'm sorry that it got to you, dobber. I appreciated how you brought attention to this project. What really confuses me about the naysayers' argument is that Axanar Productions isn't an outlier. That team wasn't starting some new trend with the new Axanar film. They were just a bunch of fans who had success with the Prelude film and were in the right place at the right time, wanting to release a sequel to that effort. They were thrown under the bus for it. Why? I still don't really get that part. There are plenty of professional fan productions that have completed whole series, sequels, and have running Trek episodes, some which I gather get as much funding as Axanar. But it seems to me that a mission was taken up to stop the new guy in true Lord of the Flies fashion. Now, everyone gets to pay the price. Good on them, I guess. I hope it was worth it.- 94 replies

Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar short film
technoblue replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Much of that is unsubstantiated rumor. If you go back earlier in the thread, Mommar and I were discussing it. There was a very vocal negative-nancy minority making a stink about nothing. I'm sure that minority is having a field day with this news. But even with the recent CBS/Paramount developments, I don't see any evidence of maliciousness from Axanar Productions. From my very unprofessional view, they were attempting to set up something similar to what Vic Mignona and that crew did with Star Trek Continues. Both teams have real actors working on set. And both crews are using props and emblems with their costumes that could be considered infringing. The Star Trek Continues crew were able to take things a step further by getting themselves recognized as a licensed non-profit entity. Who knows if Axanar Productions would have taken a similar step? The CBS/Paramount business got in the way and messed up their original schedule.- 94 replies
