I had been thinking of selling my spare 0S recently, but the new armor set pictures are causing me to have doubts. Edit: Welp, never mind that now. Keeping one bare and one to armor up.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross/Robotech Macross Saga
technoblue replied to Macrossfanx9's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think Folker was picked up as a common misspelling due to the way the English cast was pronouncing the name for the original dub. These linguistic errors happen, and they find their way into internet lore. But yeah... Macross: Roy Focker Robotech: Roy Fokker In both cases, the character is a direct nod to Anthony Fokker the aviation pioneer and aircraft manufacturer.- 6 replies

Macross Δ BD/DVD Thread (now with delicious English subs).
technoblue replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
I gather there will be a no frills release later on at some point. A single release box set has already been announced containing all 9 volumes, and a few members are waiting for that to hit in December. If a disc only release is made available, I wouldn't be surprised to see it sometime next year, giving access to the show to those who are extra patient or on a very strict budget.- 183 replies

The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
technoblue replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm still unconvinced with Ultra Magnus, the very first mold these two were based on. I think my hesitation has more to do with the fact that I'm not buying as many official releases in this scale today. i was into it with Transformers Prime and a few of the Generations releases. But after that, my interests got caught up in other things.- 16669 replies

Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar short film
technoblue replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
To be fair, Axanar Productions might have thought they were well within the boundaries of the rules depending on whomever it was they were talking to. The question is, was that contact someone in a position to give authoritative guidance on licensing issues for fan films or was that person a no-name contractor whose only experience was that they sat nearby the legal team? As a backer, it sucks how events have played out for this film, but I agree that there is a definitive comedy of errors with the lack of communication between the two parties. And it stresses how important it is to keep these lines open (to check and recheck, instead of making assumptions). Both sides are to blame for that breakdown, especially when the weight and scope of the project shot into the stratosphere. In many ways, I think Axanar Productions lost sight of its goal with producing fan films after it generated so much success with Prelude. I don't mind that they wanted to build their own professional production studio if they were having fun, but that seems now like it should have been a separate unrelated thing.- 94 replies

Why more Seekers? Why not? There are plenty of fans who are unhappy with MP-3, MP-11, and the new Takara coneheads. There's room for someone else to improve things, but I'm not really into any of the new 3P designs myself.MakeToys Re:Master Despotron won me over. I was not a fan of Apollyon. He had a lot of fun accessories, but I didn't win XTB's QC lottery with my copy. I do want a solid Megatron to match with MP-10, though. And I hope the Cross Dimension Despotron is just as solid, because it seems like Maketoys might have add-ons in mind for the smaller CD line and I would be happy to have both to stand with the classic I still own. MMC's new line of IDW bots seem more impressive to me than the Ocular Max stuff that is planned, but I know a lot of fans are going te be happy getting Trailbreaker and Hoist. I just don't have any real connection to those characters, and will skip them. IDW Rodimus was a nice surprise. GT has my interest with IDW Prime and Megatron--Stealth Bomber Megatron! Seriously. I already mentioned Fans Toys, but Skyfire was a nice surprise too. If I get him, I'll hide him among my Macross Valkyries. ;-)- 9128 replies

The Japanese dub is excellent. I took a risk on the limited edition release of volume 1, and I liked it so much that I went and pre-ordered volumes 2 and 3. For me, this was a double dip worth making. In other RWBY news, ThreeZero's Weiss Schnee has shipped! Yay!

I like the size of GT's Devastator gestalt too. Toy World's is huge, matched only by the official UW/CW Devastator. Those appear to be good masterpiece stand-ins, but I really like the flexibility that GB and FR have with being able to match up with either masterpiece or classics toys. On a completely different note, Fans Toys announced G1 Springer: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-3rd-party-discussion/1075804-fans-toys-ft-19-apache-springer.html#post13769629 That's two, two companies making Springer. Giant and Gravity Builder are my favorite looking third-party Constructicons. The tough choice would be to size down with Maketoys or size up with GT, but I only need to worry about that if I ever break my no combiners rule. Maybe... it's getting increasingly difficult to say no to these, especially with Mike's written reviews. Perhaps I can treat myself to one Devastator and Predaking... I could use more Decepticons in the ranks.- 9128 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree that the design of the toy may have prevented thicker panels on Backdraft, and I'm not completely against thin folding/sliding panels on my transforming toys (my rants on MP-22 aside). I think my level of frustration with this version of Inferno is more focused on how finicky and exact the transformation needs to be in order to get things to line up. If there is extra flash or if one of the arms is sitting out of whack, then it becomes more work than fun to put everything back in place. This is more of a criticism of truck mode, of course. The diecast is more of a personal thing, but when comparing Backdraft to Sphinx I find red to be a touch too heavy. I have Jaguar and Sphinx. I'm happy with both of those toys from Ocular Max/MMC, so I was willing to bet on Backdraft too. And Backdraft is not a terrible disappointment by any means, he just doesn't come across as polished as the other two.- 9128 replies

Backdraft arrived at my door today along with something I didn't expect to see so soon: MPP-10. There goes half my free time tonight. Edit: Backdraft first look. This toy is heavy--a real paper weight--and I'm not sure how I feel about that. The prototype pictures showed blocks of diecast metal, so I had an idea of what to expect. Based on MMC's other releases, though, I was hoping for a nice balance of diecast and quality plastics, which is more to my preference. The paint quality is good on mine. And Backdraft does look the part of an MP-scaled G1 toy. I have only a couple minor paint niggles where I think the turn signals on the front of the cab could have used another coat, and the faces could have had sharper lines. What concerns me more than the paint is how finicky the parts are in both modes. For instance, the sliding cover pieces for the arms are made of a thin plastic and I'm afraid that over time these pieces will show stress marks because they are involved in some of the more complicated transformation steps. And although the outriggers incorporate a nice gimmick where they can be deployed, on my copy they do not move in and out smoothly. Again, I am worried about accidental breakage. The transformation is a nice one, but it is held back by tolerance issues. Getting the arms and legs back in place for truck mode is a real chore. The tabs don't want to line up, and when they do the rear end of the truck no longer looks like a bumper. For bot mode, there are universal joints for the hips but no side to side ratchets and no ratchets in the knees. If there was less diecast in the legs, this wouldn't be such a pet peeve for me. The skirt piece is not fixed but is part of the transformation. On my copy, the tab for this piece likes to pop out of the slot. In the end I have mixed feelings about this one. For those who like MMC's design, it might be worth waiting to see if they release Backdraft: Part Fixed.- 9128 replies

Evolution Toy - VF-2SS Valkyrie I 《MACROSS II ~LOVERS AGAIN~
technoblue replied to joppewo's topic in Toys
Thinking along the lines of a more premium release, I wouldn't mind seeing a company like MegaHouse add the VF-2SS and other Macross II Valkyries to its Variable Hi-Spec line. Their first Orguss release was executed quite well and I'm looking forward to the next one. -
But it has already passed that benchmark (with the critics, anyway). I was speaking more to my own expectations. I was really disappointed by Ghostbusters 2. Not as much as Bill Murray, mind you. I would have still seen a Ghostbusters 3 if the original cast had been able to get over their reservations and spin some of that old magic again while Ramis was still alive. At least there was enough momentum from the original film to give us that cool Ghostbusters video game in 2009, and some nice LEGO sets. Anyway, I know this new movie will be different, but that doesn't mean that it will be bad. The controversy/politics around it is just noise that I ignore.

You see, now I'm left wondering if any of these on-line critics/personalities watched Ghostbusters 2. For me, that's the true elephant in the room and as long as this movie does better than that stinker, I don't care who they hired on to play the new Ghostbusters.

I bought the game during the Steam Summer Sale. It's short, but a lot of fun and multiplayer is easy to get into. I don't know if any add-on packs or dlc are planned for it, but it would be cool to see more campaigns available at some point. Especially if the developers included a way to play as members from team JNPR as well as team RWBY.

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
After spending more time with Spark Toys Alpha Pack, I think the shine is wearing dull for me. The paint work is some of the best I've seen on a figure to date but like Takara's recent releases there are delicate spots to watch out for. The chrome stacks on my copy, for example, are touch and go. On the left arm they appear to not have cured as well as the right and the chrome is starting to peel/chip away with transformation. Speaking of transformation, it is very simple and bot mode doesn't do much to hide the alt mode accents. That could be due to the fact that Spark Toys is trying to get as close to the comic book look of War Within Optimus as possible, but the transformation seems to me like it would be a better fit for a smaller classics-scaled figure. Mechanically, I'm concerned how in bot mode there is just one locking tab fitting the chest to the rest of the body. I had a similar concern with MP-22 Magnus, and at Alpha's current size the issue is more visible since that one tab breaks loose constantly when posing the figure. Basically, that one little connection can't hold the weight of both halves. In alt mode, Alpha does not roll easily. For me, rolling things need to roll. Alpha is finicky and has to be transformed just right to get his front tires moving. His back tires are set in a fixed plastic wheel well. The only way you can reposition them is to move the entire leg and hope for the best. There are good points. Spark Toys made sure to give us as much articulation as possible given the physical limitations of this beefy version of Prime. The universal joints in the legs have solid ratchets back and forth, and side to side. And the arms, although blocked by the chest, have no problem holding the weight of his weapons. You also get that mini matrix. But as someone who has no nostalgia for The War Within, this Cybertronian design didn't wow me.- 9128 replies

Untitled Neil Blomkamp directed Alien project
technoblue replied to Kanedas Bike's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
*shrug* It was an interesting footnote when I read the article. I'm sure you're right that Blomkamp would eventually move forward with his film no matter what Scott or Cameron thought of it. With regard to Alien versus Terminator, I'm not as bummed about what happened after T2 as I am with what happened after Aliens. I mean we did get two seasons of the Sarah Connor Chronicles which more than made up for T3 and Salvation. Genysis was entertaining IMO and I didn't find it as hateful as the other two.
