The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have so many Primes, what's one more Megatron to pair off with them? If the rumored images are accurate, that looks like a very early prototype and not something that Takara would normally put on display for the world to see. Anyway, the news did squash my interest in Mightron. I'm sticking with Despotron for a stylized Megs and waiting for more news on this official release. Unless Takara decides to do something odd with the colors like they did with Shockwave, this should be a good G1 Megatron. And with that, I'll only need to wait for GT's Stealth Bomber Megatron.- 9128 replies

It's accurate, though. It would be odd having something there that wasn't modeled after Olson's Orguss. http://www.gearsonline.net/series/orguss/mecha/emaan/orguss/olsonspecial.html When I think of his Orguss, which appeared later in the series, I think of a mecha with a streamlined, insect-like head beneath the visor/canopy. It's one of the notable differences between his and Kei's. If MegHouse does a mass produced Orguss II, it should also have its own unique features and head sculpt too.

An SDF-1 reissue? I am curious, but I do wonder why Arcadia/Mr. K have kept the comms silent on twitter. * crosses fingers *

No. I don't have hip joints that are so wobbly the legs are flopping around or that lose their pose when I pick up the toy. That said, the joints themselves are friction joints and not ratchet joints. I believe friction joints will loosen over time if you transform the toy often, but there are ways to tighten the joints again when that happens.

It might not have been necessary because of the show's popularity, but it also wasn't getting done. The Japanese HD box set didn't include any alternate language sub/dub from what I understand. It's a shame too, because it was a nice box set. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/BCXA-424 As long as Funi does right by this, western audiences should get a good HD box set too, but with the sub/dub tracks included. I would be stoked to see a nice modern, transformable Guymelef design.

Odd. I thought someone here had waited to pick up the StarBlazers 2199 disks and said the subs were the same. Curse my fuzzy memory if I got that wrong, but I went with the Japanese release, myself. I'm thinking of going that way again for 2202. The price was comparable and it was easier to pre-order and get the nice slip cases.

I love where Takara is going with the MP bonus accessories lately. And Grapple looks great. Like Inferno this is faithful to the G1 toon, but Grapple had a few more details in the show and Takara kept those (especially in the legs).- 16670 replies

For those wondering what this is about, here's the Kickstarter that Funimation launched earlier this year. IIRC, it was successfully funded in less than 4 days. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/funimationprod/the-vision-of-escaflowne-a-new-hd-dub-for-the-clas/description

First stage achieved. The next stage challenge is to get RC Yamato off the water and make her fly. Edit: Make sure to hold out for when both RC models are in the pool together. Great stuff.

It reminds me of the Voyager BD release. Everything was the same, right down to the artwork and the subtitles. The only thing that was changed was the direct translation of Uchu Senkan Yamato. Voyager opted to ignore that completely and use the international title: Star Blazers. As much as that sort of decision seems trite and political to me, I won't really mind as long as the English text is tiny and doesn't get in the way of the cover art. It will be even less of a deal if the show is treated as well as 2199 was. Based on the preview, I have high hopes. Edit: too slow for westfall...

The antennaes can move forward and back for transformation and are somewhat pliable side-to-side. As with Kei's Orguss that section hides away in Flyer and Gerwalk mode. The instructions show how to tuck each of the antenna in without stressing them. You will want to be careful not to bend it out of shape or stress it. I was thinking that if you stress them too far they could break or lose their shape, but I didn't know that they would also pop off. Anyway, it appears that these are not fixed soild pieces that would crack easily like MP-10 Oprimus Prime's antennaes, or the VF-1 head lasers, which I think are more unforgiving.

All right! Time to take a look at Olson's Orguss II. Like Kei's Orguss, the first characteristics that I was impressed by out of the box were the weight and the paint applications. One minor point of note is that the instructions and decal sheet might be tucked away behind a piece of cardboard. If they don't fall out when you slide out the trays, then you might have to hunt around for them in the box. Just pull everything out of there, then you'll find them. Anyway, once I decided to stop just staring at it, I moved the joints around. I don't remember how Kei's Orguss was out of the box, but Olson's joints are super tight and one particular nasty double joint below the shoulder pads on the arms just plain got me nervous. Luckily, it looks like there are screws that are easily accessible, so I might try to loosen them to see if that helps to make moving that spot in Orgroid mode less of a test of my anxiety levels. Those familiar with Kei's Orguss will notice that the head sculpt is different for Olson's ride. It has the same articulation as Kei's (limited range up/down/side-to-side), but be careful of the antenna when posing since the whole area has a different configuration. I didn't see any replacement antenna in the box. And another thing you should be aware of are the gap-filling flap pieces that fold out around the Orgroid head. These tuck away when transforming from Orgroid to the other modes. Just note that it can be a chore to put them back into place. I did find one blemish on my copy. It has bit of flashing where the visor comes down over the head. It was interfering with the transformation slightly, but it was easy to fix. It was the only blemish that I found on the toy. Also, I love how the red catches the light. I'm a sucker for effects like that. Gerwalk and Flyer modes look the most like Kei's Orguss, despite the color and armaments. I wasn't remembering the trick to place the weapons on the hardpoints, though, so Olson's Orguss looks a little empty in my Gerwalk/Flyer pics. The feet have similar articulation to Kei's: a very fluid ankle rocker (maybe a tiny bit loose on my copy), but a back and forth ankle hinge that is nice and tight. Oh, and you do get the pilot gimmick just like before. It's a nice cockpit and appears to have the HUD, but little Orson is trapped inside there...forever... Flyer looks sweet, especially in the blue/gold/yellow/black paint scheme of Olson's Orguss. It has a nice contrast to Kei's white/beige/red/black version. The darker tones give it almost a stealthy appearance. Again, like Kei's Orguss, the accent color (gold versus beige) is done in a matte finish, whereas the other colors have a gloss to them. My only so-so comment on this mode is that it took me a while to transform the arms since the joints were so tight, and I don't know if I got them 100%, but it looks good enough. Okay. That's it for today. Tank mode will have to wait until later. Minus the nitpicks I mentioned, I'm really liking this release. And for me, it would be an easy toy to recommend. Definitely a win for those who are fans of the show. Here's hoping MegaHouse teases more mecha from the show.

I would vote for the dinobots, although it took me a long time to come around to the third-party versions. You might have better luck with them since there are more options today, and some even combine! For carbots, I agree with Tking22. Sideswipe/Red Alert and Streak/Prowl are great if you want to fill out that core list. I think Sideswipe has the added benefit of not dying in the animated film, which is a benefit only a few of the original series bots can claim (like the dinobots).- 9128 replies

That has to be one of the best Han Solo figures I've seen. And the other other teaser photos almost make me wish I was back collecting Star Wars stuff again, but I'm already committed to so many other things. I might pick up this Han as a one off, though. I have the Indiana Jones figma that was released some time ago, which wasn't too bad. And it would be a shame to miss this.

Sure. I'll post some initial impressions this weekend. If I get some extra time, I'll try to fit in a comparison of Olson's Orguss with Kei's.

I need one of those "it's happening" gifs. I received my payment request for Olson's Orguss from amiami last night. Edit: Shipping was fair. EMS is around $30US, but I went with DHL which was closer to $25 and I offset that price with some points that I still had saved up. IIRC, Registered SAL was around $15, but I didn't want to wait too long for my new Orguss to arrive. The final total was about what I paid for Kei's Orguss, and given the exchange rate I'm okay with it.

Good review. The functionality of the gestalt joints are one of my BIG worries with combiners, and that goes back to my childhood days when I would play with G1 Defensor and the few Constructicons/Predicons that I was lucky enough to get. For me to break down and buy any now, I need to be confident that the combined figure can pose well while also being sturdy in its different poses. I don't want to constantly fight ratchets or joints, or worse (gravity). Otherwise, I will probably continue to pass on the complete sets to get only the individual bots that I like. In other news, MT's Striker Manus seems to be the source of many rumors. Initially, he was being hyped as a figure that would get an armor set. I was into that, myself. Now that rumor is being challenged at TFW and MT is being very quiet about future plans. Another new armored Optimus was mentioned as a separate figure (Thunder Convoy), and I don't really know how that will work with the new line. Anyway, all this debate has cooled my jets and I am taking a wait and see approach on Manus and anything else Cross Dimension until there is more official information. The last thing I need to do is buy stuff based on hype.- 9128 replies

I was into the trailer too. I'll give this new Tick a chance, the humor is there and...the antenna are nice and emotive which reminds me of the old animated series.

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
technoblue replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Ouch. Did you use eBay or a credit card? You might have options there to get your money back if the store doesn't work with you on a return. As for finding a legitimate VT-1, use the 'Where to Buy' and 'Wanted' forums if you ever need help again, Metal Man. These are great resources. For example, there is a jungle store promotion going on right now that you might want to check out. You can find details in the JUNGLE items of interest thread.
