The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Backdraft cooled me off to MMC's Ocular Max line. I do like Jaguar and Sphinx, though. With the Reformatted releases, there's more that I like, although I'm trying to be picky and focus on specific teams. Kultur will be a nice addition to my DJD. Turben and Dicamus will be nice additions to my Wreckers. And the blatant repaints aren't bad either, so I pre-ordered them too. Carnifex...I was sorely tempted by this giant, but I have to draw the line until my space situation changes. And that line is Hexatron. I will enjoy the pictures. Oh! I'm also looking forward to MMC's Reformatted Hot Rodimus, which was teased back in July.- 9128 replies

HaHaHa...Optimus Prime is about as ubiquitous as Bumblebee or the VF-1, I'm not surprised they are testing the waters with him. But I'll say it again (because it's worth doing), I would like to see them do more with Shattered Glass than they did with the Evangelion crossover. Some characters will be easy repaints like SoundWave, but imagine if they went all out and gave us a decent sculpt of mirror-verse Megatron in his Cybertronian Jet mode! And another thing, since a certain minbot plays a big role both in G1 and Shattered Glass, what if they're also hinting at a possible MP Cliffjumper?- 16669 replies

Thank you, kajnrig. I'll have to watch Plus again soon. Mostly because it's good, but also to brush up on these smaller details.

Seto beat me to it, but here are some more ramblings... This old discussion should help too: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/?showtopic=33975 It wasn't that absurd once Sharon Apple started to subjugated the entire city, including the defense grid and the new Ghost fighter. As to what happened to Isamu later...well Seto gave you all the details, and I didn't even know that Millard took the blame allowing Isamu to continue on. Cool. Remember that Guld, Isamu, and Myung were all good friends in high school---not strangers. Isamu was able to key into what his friend was saying. And I think it was only natural for him to worry about and respond to it. Why would he want to let either Guld or Myung die at that point? It think a lesser show might have had both of them survive somehow. I don't remember this. Was the YF-19 in Gerwalk mode? Valkyries can hover/change speed like that depending on the mode they're in, but that scene also could have simply been set in slow motion to create more of a dramatic effect.

Macross Δ BD/DVD Thread (now with delicious English subs).
technoblue replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
Mm. No argument there. Without going into spoiler mode, there are some comparisons to other series--AKB0048, Macross II, and Macross 7 being the most frequent comparisons. One thing I can say is that the new series is NOT like Macross Frontier. Fans who were expecting more of a Frontier-style story have been disappointed the most, it seems.- 183 replies

Macross Δ BD/DVD Thread (now with delicious English subs).
technoblue replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
Was about to post the same. Most of those 1-star reviews are fans complaining about later episodes and how the series isn't shaping up to what they wanted it to be. They aren't legitimate reviews of the first disc itself, its packaging, or the quality of the extras/subtitles. Anyway, I recommend waiting for and watching the BDs. It's been a blast to see the show this way, and totally unexpected as an English-speaking fan with the subs. I'm behind on all the discussion, but I don't mind that.- 183 replies

What is this? A chibified Ruby Rose for fans of RWBY Chibi... http://hlj.com/product/dbn63122# It looks like a good start, but I don't know much about Minissimos. And the price is twice what Good Smile is asking for comparable Nendos. I'm conflicted.

LOL! Okay, no worries then. It's probably just me being oblivious to the other options. I went with NY because it was always easy to go with them, especially when buying the armor/super parts add-ons for the DX-sized Valkyries. Roy's HM-R was the first time I experienced a shipping upcharge on an exclusive and I'm glad to see that there are other options out there. Also, work started to block NY once they linked to that adult partner store. AE, though, is still navigatable and I like buying MP transformers from them, so I'm thinking of picking up Milia's HM-R there as well.
-
I should clarify, I haven't pre-ordered any other Tamashii Exclusives before like the Star Wars or Marvel exclusive figures. I've only bought the Macross exclusives. But I didn't think I would have to be that pedantic...
-
I don't remember Roy being as widely available as this, but my memory is probably faulty. I also only buy Macross tamashii exclusives, so I'm not used to doing the whole exclusive thing...oh well.

Great Despotron pics, anubis20. My copy should be arriving today too and I'm looking forward to MT's stylized/dynamic look. I've seen other pics of him standing with MP-10 and they look good together. Also, since I have more than one MP-10, I'm also down for picking up more than one Megatron, but I'm still debating which company I'll go with. That will be a tough decision with all the new choices. Thankfully, my memories of Apollyon are fading. -
I think the story started out with promise, but the Kabaneri should have been better thought out. Their development relied too much on standard anime stereotypes. I didn't think it was going to go that way at first, though. They had a nice set up introducing Mumei as a strong female lead and Ikoma as physically inferior but with an adept mind for research. But it wasn't all bad. Ayame's character was well done and consistent, given what we did see of her and the politics that the show did get into at times. The art and character designs were fantastic too. Edit: Putting spoilery comments behind tags...

I really enjoyed the restored video. Both versions remind me so much of other animated films from the 1980s, and the restoration work was done well. I only noticed one soft scene: Hot Rod and Daniel's introduction at the lake. If there were any others, I missed them. Nothing seemed over saturated or excessively sharp. I also didn't notice any ringing or banding in the image. blu-ray.com has a more detailed review with nice screenshots posted here: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Transformers-The-Movie-Blu-ray/157482/ The screenshots are pretty close to what I see on my television.- 16669 replies

Usually it is easier to go through an online shop like NY which stocks web exclusives since they will ship to addresses outside of Japan. With a p-bandai account there might be a restriction that does not allow this. I don't have a p-bandai account, though, so I can't confirm it. I'll be checking NY for Milia's HM-R, even if they end up taxing me on shipping again like they did with Roy.
-
Cool! That may be one reason why the legs on Olson's Orguss do a better job holding poses. But no, I didn't notice the diecast on my own. I haven't been able to sit down and compare the two releases side-by-side, although I would like to soon.

If the HM-R toys do well enough where Bandai can recreate in-jokes from various scenes, I say go for it! But the hybrid Orguss is probably a long shot...
-
The original diorama may not provide the exact timing of Bandai's release schedule, but I think it shows a clear intent for the HM-R series which is a move toward varied and dynamic displays. That's the strength HM-R has over the larger scale DX or Arcadia releases. And the idea that Bandai would want to add another Macross line to the smaller HM-R series seems only natural to me. Maybe I'm being too optimistic. But there are newer, more recognized Macross properties today as you say, jenius. My point is that forward progress doesn't erase the original plan. I agree that this will lead to more Valkryie announcements for sure. The destroids will continue to trickle in too. Besides, that Monster needs its backup.
-
If the machine translation is accurate and they are expanding HM-R to include more Macross series Valkyries and mecha, I don't see how that is a doom and gloom thing. For me it's a good thing, because it shows Bandai is willing to invest more in this scale and expand Hi-Metal again. I also agree with Slave IV, the other destroids will be announced. All it takes is a little patience.

LoL! I like that--whisker antennae. I mentioned it before and I think I get what MH was trying to do with them since they tuck in, but I wish they were more substantial or had replacements you could swap out like with Bandai's DX Valkyries. I'm naturally skeptical, but I took another look at the head too. I have to admit, it appears that the head canopy and the head itself have pieces of translucent red plastic that are painted over in layers. But that works for me, even at this price range. Like I said in my initial review last week, it gives off a nice effect, and reminds me of light piping actually. The head itself is on a hinge joint and can do up and down, side to side movements so I couldn't really peak underneath and I don't have a little mirror on hand. There is a visible seam which leads me to believe that it is two pieces put together as one. There are flat molded spots on the side and the crown, so to me it isn't a perfect orb which is why I described it as insect-like. Anyway, I guess we've analyzed that piece to death.

Oh no, no... I wasn't reading what you wrote as a slight or anything like that. I just don't see it as boring. I don't mind if you do, or if anyone else likes other versions better. MP-10 has had the most repaints, after all. IMO, I really like how this version and the KO are different interpretations of SG Prime. The Hasbro Asia version is tempting because the purple appears to have the same metallic fleck that MP Tracks has added to his finish. It's a nice effect. And then there is the trailer... I guess I have to admit it isn't as inspired as MP-10EVA's trailer, but I was thinking it would be easy to add some Decepticon symbols and use it with MP-10B too. The KO has nice matte paint details. The yellow highlights and printing may be more accurate to SG too. My concern with it, though, is it doesn't have great QC marks.- 16669 replies

I have been passing on store-bought Transformers since the TF:Prime figures were taken off the dollar store shelves and racks. And after trying a handful of 3P Headmasters, MP-scale and smaller, only Code:Virus and Combes Robin made the cut. I wasn't a fan of how the head gimmick affected head articulation. Here' some interesting news for Shattered Glass fans: http://news.tfw2005.com/2016/09/08/hasbro-asia-shattered-glass-masterpiece-optimus-prime-announced-324592 MP-10 is due out in December and includes a black trailer. Even more interesting is how the news seems to imply that more figures will get the SG treatment. I wonder what other bots will be included? Also, I hope it doesn't fizzle like that EVA crossover. MP-11 was mentioned in the Optimus mini story, but EVA Starscream was never released.- 16669 replies

I don't know. Did someone take the head apart or do a scratch test on the gold/bronze section? There does appear to be a seam running down the center in my pics and the ones that no3ljm posted above. I'm not in a rush to try and split the head open, though. It looks okay to me.

I'm still on the fence as to whether this is official TT, a KO, or some other third party trolling the rest with its own attempt at G1 Megs. The long legs I can live with if the joints are solid with a good degree of motion. The bucket head looks all right, but I'm not sold on the prototype's face. I hope that cleans up nice when we see it in real color instead of a digibash. The cannon is good, and matches DX9's cannon for aesthetics in bot mode. That abdominal area...what's up with that? It looks squished/scrunched and out of shape. The yellow detailing is hardly visible at all. On DX9's version, it is a smaller yellow stripe but still prominent. Yeah, the lower torso/hip skirt area seems out of proportion. And if this is official, I hope TT is planning to clean that up too.- 16669 replies

Good point. Takara is just as capable of making a stinker as any of the third party manufacturers. I think DX9 did a very good job making a comic-book style Megatron with the way the trigger transforms and molds the back in bot mode. I guess I shouldn't be in such a rush to yank it off my buy list. It's actually a nice looking version of the character.- 9128 replies
