  1. If anyone is thinking of buying MP-36 in the US locally, I would choose one of the smaller stores like Toy Dojo, Captured Prey, or The Chosen Prime. I've noticed that the smaller stores don't mess with the packaging like BBTS, so it will be up to Takara as to how gummed up that orange plug is. It might end up being a non issue like Despotron was. But yeah, how Takara boxes everything up at the factory matter won't matter if you buy MP-36 from BBTS. The toy looks good, and very articulate. I especially like all the gimmicks and add-ons that Takara is able to squeeze into its newer Masterpiece releases. I think these points are winning me over with the new MPs, since I'm not really into the trend for painful cartoon accuracy. The torso and shoulder areas do look a little busy, and that concerns me on this Megatron. I hope everything locks together all right. I think I'll be okay with this if it proves to have a unique and fun transformation that is solid in both modes. If it is too complicated and fiddly, though, I may pass on it. Anyway, I'll be waiting for the retail release this time since I have other third-party options that can stand with MP-10. I'm also closely watching the "different" takes on Megatron that have been teased (GT's and MMC's). The Megatron drought is definitely over.
  2. The Sarah Jane Adventures was excellent. As a Who spinoff, it had the benefit of bringing the focus back to younger viewers and I think the late Elizabeth Sladen brought a lot of validity to it. Class will be interesting since it roots itself in a place rather than rooting itself with a former companion of the Doctor. As a spinoff for younger viewers, I do think it has some daunting boots to fill. That said, I plan to give it a chance. I agree that Torchwood fell flat, especially when it was finding its pace during the first season. I think my problem with Torchwood was that in creating a juxtaposition between how the Doctor solved problems and how the Torchwood team solved similar problems without the Doctor around, the writers limited the team's growth. They couldn't be anything more than a bumbling shadow organization.
  3. This is what I have to do with my Shapeways spares.
  4. Its about time. I know the BBC have said that animating the missing episodes is costly, but I hope they continue to fund more of these projects in the future.
  5. That's from the opening scene of episode 1. I'm watching Dougram for the first time too, and that episode sets everything up as if Canary is having a flashback to earlier events. I guess I'll see how that pans out as I keep watching.

I picked up 2 sets. I didn't really get effect parts until curiosity got the better of me and I picked up a few sets. They may look like a waste of money, but if you are into building complex dioramas or simple action-based displays with 2 or 3 toys, then they can really add depth above and beyond thae traditional A-stance. I do agree that these carry a premium over the standard Tamashii effect parts and stands... At least it isn't an Arcadia-level premium.

Haha! Okay, fair enough. I might have been reading too much into the fears that other members were posting after the Dougram pre-orders went up. I didn't mean to make it seem like I was calling anyone out. As for the effects parts, I can't wait.

How this thread went down the negative "no more Macross" path is really, really strange (to me).

I'm talking more about the aesthetic that Bandai is using in the new line rather than a canon reason. The Hikaru and Roy 1S DYRL HM-R Valkyries use a similar off-white base to the GBP 1J. Because of that, and the other points I noted, I'm happy to group the GBP 1J with the movie Valkyries.

Both HM-R VF-1J Valkyries stand out to me. The original Hi-Metal looks like an amalgamation of those two. I like how Bandai went and made the GBP 1J specific to its DYRL appearance. It includes the 101 call sign, the grey visor, the odd chest stripe, and it is missing the colored arm bands. In contrast Hikaru's TV 1J is more accurate to the series animation with a better battroid head sculpt, colored bands on the arms and legs, a brighter white, and a corrected chest stripe. Edit: How could I forget? The HM-R Valkyries add U.N. Spacy markings on the legs.
  11. I'm not worried about Macross HM-R at this point in time. The autumn/holiday season tends to have the most release announcements, but outside of that Bandai seems to spread things out. Here are all the announced HM-R Macross toys (including shop exclusives) and their release dates: September 2015: DYRL VF-1J w/ Armor November 2015: DYRL VF-1S Hikaru February 2016: Regult April 2016: DYRL VF-1S Roy (shop exclusive) May 2016: Glaug July 2016: HWR-00 MKII Monster September 2016: DYRL/TV VF-1A CF October 2016: TV VF-1J Hikaru November 2016: TV VF-1J Max March 2017: TV VF-1J Milia (shop exclusive) The first Dougram HM-R toy was announced for February 2017 and there was no Macross HM-R announcement to go with it. Maybe there could still be one, but it's probably unlikely at this point. I guess that leaves April and May open for regular Macross HM-R release announcements.

My Hikaru TV 1J is waiting on two other orders at amiami, which is a-okay as everything should ship closer to the end of the month. I could see Bandai finishing this first wave of Macross HM-R figures, rolling out the Spartan to complete that diorama they teased, and then pausing to focus on some HM-R Dougram releases before announcing another Macross wave later next year. But stopping Macross completely? That I can't imagine. The more likely event is that we will get Macross HM-R releases mixed in with "other" HM-R releases throughout 2017. What really surprised me is that I am now looking forward to Bandai's HM-R announcements more so than Arcadia's announcements... The times, they are a-changin!
  13. I'll be sitting out on this pre-order. The armor set looks good, but there are other things that I need to budget for at the moment. I'll give it another look after release day when you guys have retail copies in hand, and there are some initial impressions.
  14. I think jungle has the best deal on open box copies of the YF-30, unless you are looking for absolute perfection or you are short on cash. In that case, trading the Arcadia/Yamato VF-4G for the Chronos will be the best deal going right now and you will have found that rare person who doesn't care about market trends. I don't doubt that this is impossible to do, but that it is unlikely for the reasons others have noted. A Yamato VF-4G sees a little more activity during an auction because of the Yamato name, but both the Yamato and Arcadia VF-4G have been devalued since Arcadia reissued the toy using the exact same paint scheme.

 Have you seen sh9000's Regult army? He's a serious Hi-Metal collector. As for the debate... Hm... The best way to Internet Zen (and this personal experience goes back to my old BBS/Usenet days) is to not read too much into what other users write. Most of the time, that emotion we see really isn't there. Anyway, I think we should all help give treatment's non-macross HM-R thread more visibility and more views.
  16. The Draken isn't up on mykombini yet, so that store might be a slim possibility for those left without.
  17. Sweet. The toon colors look good, although I'm trying to imagine what the X version will look like since I'm picking up that paint scheme. I'm also hoping Cesium X and Grinder X do not release in the same month like Soar X and Stomp X did. My wallet could use a breather in between these last two Fans Toys dinos, especially with all the other stuff that's on the way.
  18. That's how I went about it too. I slept through the earlier opportunities at stores like hlj and amiami, and was searching for the sv-262hs at n-y. Once the placeholder popped up, I started to refresh the page and as soon as the page was live, I placed my pre-order. I received n-y's confirmation e-mail almost immediately, As usual for a Bandai release, I figure it was more luck than strategy.
  19. Yay! Picked up Han and a Storm Trooper earlier too, for old time's sake.
  20. I was thinking the complete box set was the Bandai Visual Club release with the 1/72 VF-31J bonus. But now that I look at the page again, I don't know if it is a special single box release or an up-front payment for the three limited-edition boxes with BVC's included bonus. Someone else with more info will have to clarify that point.
  21. Got my tracking info for the third BD. :-) Looking forward to the next round of episodes.

Okay, I'll be that guy. FYI: treatment started the dedicated non-Macross HM-R thread over here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=44158
  23. FYI: Some feedback for planet steel express. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/planet-steel-express-reliable-any-experience.1051782/ Seems to be safe, especially if you are looking for an alternate source of MMC bots.

Yeah, I don't see how this announcement signals the end of the Macross HM-R releases. It's just another line based off of a different classic anime franchise. So...why not? If someone isn't into it, that's money saved. * shrug *
