I'm still waiting for my sv-262 to arrive, but I have seen something like this happen with third-party transformers which use protective plastic to protect painted parts. I wish I still had the pictures, but I had a copy of Spark Toys Alpha Pack (War Within Optimus Prime) that had a paint peeling issue. When taking off the protective plastic, it also pulled off a thin layer of the paint. I'm not sure what caused the problem though. I've received other toys both from overseas and from domestic suppliers that are wrapped in protective plastic, and these are fine. It does make me suspicious of more clingy packaging materials, though.

I agree that HLJ is being extra careful in reminding US customers about US law. And it could be that Takara's release will be handled differently since more stores are carrying this version Megs--more out in the wild might give this more visibility. With the third-party releases, though, the orange plug wasn't a big deal and it's been nice to display Megs without a loud non-canon accessory. Edit: AE just sent word that MP-36 arrived, so I guess I'll get to see how picky customs is first hand. Megs is shipping with a few other items from them.- 16670 replies

This orange plug discussion bubbles up whenever a G1 style Megatron is released. As always, your mileage will vary. It is interesting that a Japanese company is speaking up about it, though. I would expect to see that message from a domestic seller like BBTS before HLJ.- 16670 replies

It could be, but I am not convinced. This show, like the other Marvel shows, uses a number of things to get its points across and I think Danny's look was done that way intentionally. Davos doesn't confront Danny for leaving his post until the very end of the series. His look, though, is a visual reference letting us know from the beginning that he is not like previous Iron Fists. He's not following the traditional path that was set before him.

Maybe it is the camera or the bend of the magazine, but figuarts Yuki is looking very odd to me.

I think all the Netflix Marvel superhero shows suffer from pacing, especially when introducing the heroes. For me, Jessica Jones succeeded the most with its introduction of her character, and Daredevil gets high marks for being the first show out of the gate. From what I've seen so far, I would rank Luke Cage higher than Iron First, but both shows are very entertaining. Iron Fist didn't really do a good job with grounding Danny to anything familiar. He just shows up after a long ago tragedy, and that is not only hard for his friends to swallow in universe but also for the audience to swallow. There could have been a better set up for that background fantasy. And definitely, if you skip through episodes you miss important details like the one I highlighted. There was even a scene with young Danny in his Shaolin-style monk garb. Anyway, one of the important goings on with Danny's story is his role as the Iron Fist, and how he should play that out. It comes up multiple times in his interactions with other characters. I don't want to get into spoiler territory, so I'll leave it at that. The point is, I decided to give the show a chance, and I'm glad I did. It may be the weakest of them but it is still good.

Alien: Covenant (formerly known as Prometheus 2)
technoblue replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So AMD was behind the crappy AI that placed the importance of corporations above that of human lives? Damn. I didn't see that one coming. Now I have to wonder, was Bishop mk. 1 the result of some performance dip? The Bulldozer of our AI future?- 352 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Mm. This may not help, then. Stomp's tail collapses onto itself and locks into the open space filling in the back of the leg in robot mode. It's clever how its done and it is secure (at least, it is on mine). I also like the proportions, but I'm not a hard sell in that area.- 9128 replies

Yes, my copy of FT-07X Stomp includes the pop-out eyes. I wasn't expecting them because I had read they were specific to the G1 version. It was a nice surprise.- 9128 replies

I went with the X releases, myself. I don't have anything bad to say about them. They are solid and they do look like premium masterpiece figures to me. But they are expensive since they are limited runs and have additional paint apps. Picking one over the other is really a personal choice. If you like the shiny paint and don't mind waiting, then the X releases are worth it. If you want to save some money and prefer the G1 look, the standard releases are out now, and you can plan a budget to get all of the dinos since Grimlock (Grinder) was just released. Of course, if you want Caesium instead of Scoria, then I guess more waiting is required.- 9128 replies

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
technoblue replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Memory is a funny thing. I think the "shelling" sequence was the only live action teaser that stood out as having toned down fan service, but it wasn't really anything to complain about. The art direction seems spot on.- 751 replies

I miss all the facebook stuff since I left it years ago. To Dobber's main point, though, I agree that cancelling pre-orders is one way to be heard, but it is also important to give context to the lost sales. If Bandai Visual knows (in writing) that we would have been happy to support the show directly and completely, especially if Yamato 2202 had included subtitles in a format consistent with Yamato 2199 and its movies then the cancelled pre-orders will have context and greater emphasis. Of course, I have to laugh because even this takes time and I'm going grey waiting for results. To think, it was 1993 when I bought classic Star Blazers and Space Battleship Yamato on VHS.

TangledThorns might be right. Maybe there is a silver lining here, and a licensing deal is being worked on for a more global release. Getting Yamato 2202 would be enough, but it would be fantastic if some company could also get a license to release the classic series/movies on blu-ray.

ANN is reporting that Bandai Visual has confirmed it, as well: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2017-02-25/bandai-home-video-release-of-space-battleship-yamato-2202-wont-include-english-subs/.112694 Really, I'm at a loss for words. What the wave motion gun!? I guess the long wait begins for serious licensing outside of Japan... I mean, I was content to put up with the minor irritation of seeing Star Blazers on Japanese Space Battleship Yamato discs, but to have Star Blazers branded discs that also do not have English subs at all in any format? ... Yeah, that's a very bad joke. edit: sorry, getting emotional

Bandai Hi-Metal R: Dougram series
technoblue replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
^ Sweet. My n-y order shipped, so I'll be able to see the Dougram up close and personal soon. I'm also at the point in the series where Dougram gets its turbozak upgrade. -
The mini kits are nice, but I would be more inclined to buy transforming (or even parts-forming) capital ships. I thought MegaHouse had a good start with its TV SDF-1, and I wouldn't mind seeing more Macross capital ships from them. I think Arcadia could start something competitive by making a line of small scale transforming capital ships, but I don't know what that would entail cost-wise. Even with the SV-51 announcement, Arcadia's news felt conservative to me this year. I want to keep a positive beat, though, and I hope there is a surprise reissue or two before the end of the year (not counting Hikaru's 1S, which is already in the pipeline).

Waiting on n-y to ship my pre-order, but that isn't really news. -
I can't wait to see Arcadia's improvements. I think it's safe to say the Nora will get a release, but I'm glad Ivanov is getting first dibs since I don't have his Valkyrie. I also hope Arcadia's first SV-51 comes right out the gate with solid quality (like the VF-0S) and no QC hiccups.

It's not just you, ArchieNov. The Reaction Armor seems quite plain to me too. I wasn't expecting a premium finish, but I was expecting more detail: like some shading to highlight the rivets, for instance, or the red warning triangles on the missile bays. Both would have been a nice touch. With the announced assembly kit, I'm thinking that I'll wait and roll my own armor (although it might take a while to finish since I haven't done any modeling in years). Still, I'm thinking it could be a fun project.

The Lancer II was on display at Wonderfest last year, I'm crossing my fingers for something we haven't seen. I'll take a rare reissue as a consolation prize, though.

Gee. I wish Netflix US still had exclusive streaming rights to BBC content. * sigh * Anyway, I'll wait patiently for this to turn up somewhere over here. I've read the two Dirk Gently books (not the third unfinished one). I read somewhere that the written version of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency had its roots in two old Doctor Who episodes penned by Adams during the Tom Baker era (Shada and City of Death). It will be cool to see where the new show takes the story. I'm also curious to see how it compares to the earlier BBC effort from 2010, which is often criticized for being too short (only 4 episodes).
