Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, in theaters May 5, 2017
technoblue replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My sentiments exactly. I also liked how this kept the momentum of the first movie, while bringing all that colorful entertainment to bear. For me, Guardians feels the most like watching a comic book come to life on the big screen. I think the last movie to come close to scratching that itch was the 1980s Flash Gordon film.- 115 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Welcome to the club! I agree that MMC's Jaguar is very, very nice. I like how I can pair the figure with MP Ravage and mimic the blatant mass-shifting from old G1 episodes. It makes for a fun display, and the articulation (as you say) has a good range that improves on the official MP cassette. I was hoping that a Howlback repaint would be out by now too, but it looks like MMC has reorganized the schedule of their cassette tapes and I'm not really clear on what they plan to release next. Given what has been teased at places like tfw2005, I'm interested in seeing how frenzy/rumble will turn out.- 9128 replies

Those fins are so innocuous until one fails. I bought a used VF-1A where the nubbins on the inner edge of the hinge were worn down, losing their grip to the hinge sockets. My choices were to either appoxy the piece in place and leave it static (so that it couldn't fold over) or fashion a pin replacement. I ended up going with the pin method. Click the spoiler to see both fins removed from Max's TV VF-1A. The repaired fin is on the left. Click this spoiler to see the repaired fin in the leg. I had to massage the fixed piece to get it to sit correctly. Eventually, I got it to sit flat in the folded position just like the good fin. In this pic, you can also see a tiny missing wedge of plastic on the right side of the hinge. That was an error I made when placing the pin. *sigh* Oh well. This fix saved TV Max for me, but I hope I don't have to do another surgical fix like that again anytime soon.

Vulcan is a fun figure, but don't take my word for it. Take a look at him in person if you can. I'm biased since I have all of the Planet X Dinobots now. I'm also not shy about posing them with the more Cybertronian MMC Reformatted bots. I think they all look good together. Having combining Dinobots out in the wild today still feels strange to me. I was never introduced to the concept before this third-party trend. In the show they were these overpowered lugs--gimmicky characters--able to take on anything the Decepticons could throw at the Autobots if it wasn't for their odd temperament. But then, that temperament is what often made them endearing. FansToys has me locked in for G1 MP-styled Dinos. I think they strike a good balance between toon and toy too, although in a perfect world we would get all the options for these toys on day one. For instance, stylized and toon-accurate head sculpts, fixes for quality issues...but it is what it is. I've gone so deep already that I don't know if I could sell my Dibot collection for a more toon-centric official collection. Takara would have to really surprise me to get me to move, and I might end up keeping my Dibots anyway. I mean, I have other multiples... On a related third-party note, have you guys seen the latest images of MakeToys Howling Meteor? I sold off all my MP-11 Seekers a while back hoping that I'd see something like this come out. It looks like patient collectors are in for a treat. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/maketoys-mtrm-09-howling-meteor-maketoys-unofficial-starscream.1047088/page-29#post-14556122' Some more pics. Those poses in bot mode are amazing. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/maketoys-mtrm-09-howling-meteor-maketoys-unofficial-starscream.1047088/page-41#post-14558825- 9128 replies

Maybe Bandai is easing everyone into the idea of an HM-R VF-11MAXL? I do like that idea!
-
I think the pink crystals/sensors are a little too low on Messer's VF-1 scheme. They would look better in Battroid mode if they were closer to the cockpit and more to the rear of the plane, mirroring the collared effect that the VF-31 has.
-
Hey, dwc! It's good to see that you made your way back. I tend to hang out over here more than I do at tfw, but I like both places.
-
Not sure why you moved your question, when it was answered...but I'll post the answer here too:
-
Yeah, only one version right now for Milia. The standard version does have markings, but not as many as the premium finish version. No official word yet on whether Arcadia will release a premium finish version.
-
I'm the kind of collector that sells off items in order to fund new pieces like this 1J. I find that it's the best of both worlds. Someone gets a Valkyrie (or another toy) that they were looking for at a reasonable price and I am able to pay Arcadia's (or some other company's) price with my PayPal balance instead of paying out of pocket. It's the circle of life.
-
Ah, HLJ, what did you do? For me NY's price is already at the top edge of what I'm willing to pay for the extra Tampo. I wouldn't feel comfortable paying more than that.
-
That's what I was thinking. I like the deep red, so I hope the last picture with all the parts laid out together is close to the actual color.
-
Yep! That's a great point about zero foreign transaction fee cards. You can avoid all the charges by setting that stuff up correctly. Oh no! NY charges 8% thereabouts. Even with PayPal's 3% fee, you are paying less by doing the conversion through them.
-
Currency conversion, which is described in the PayPal User Agreement. It is a 3% fee that goes to PayPal, and it is similar to the fee that some credit card companies charge for currency conversion. For instance, changing USD to JPY and vice versa. Paypal uses the balance of the PayPal account to determine the need for currency conversion. If you are buying in JPY and have a JPY balance, then there is no conversion. If you have a USD balance (or some other currency), then there is a conversion fee.
-
And... the Lancer II is now showing as unavailable at NY.
-
Looks like a lighting effect to me. The last pic that sh9000 shared doesn't have that shade/tone variance because the Valkyrie isn't directly under a hot lamp.
-
^Awesome. I placed an order with N-Y. If Arcadia releases a premium finish version, I'll be getting two! Yes, you can pay in JPY and let PayPal do the currency conversion to get a better rate. PayPal allows you to use certain no fee credit cards, for example, but if you don't have that option you are still paying at a lower rate than N-Y. I think PayPal's fee is 2.5-3%.
-
LOL! I have to quote spacemanoeuvres: so hard to resist. Do I pay the extra $22 and pick up Roy at N-Y now or do I gamble on the unknown in the hope that another store like HLJ might get some, and that I'll be able to pick up a copy? As someone implied on another forum, that could be too many unknowns. Edit: I lasted until Friday, but couldn't resist any longer. I ended up pre-ordering premium Roy. I can't wait to see these in person. I think I'll put my old Yamato Roy 1S to good use too, and use it as a base for my first custom.
-
Oh, I understand that. In this case N-Y is like a proxy buyer, but I still find the fees hard to swallow. If N-Y is the only option, I will most likely pass on the Lancer in order to get Roy's 1S.
-
No idea. That would be a great alternative, though. The last message in the 1/60 thread is from September 2015 asking the same question... Definitely. If that was the price including shipping, then I would be okay with it. Since it is the price before shipping it is making me pause too. The current price makes it seem like n-y is passing on the 8% tax to international buyers.
-
Hm...last time, HLJ got a Hikaru premium batch and offered a better discount. It looks like N-Y is offering a $4 discount for Roy when compared to the Hikaru release, but they're still adding on copious amounts of fees (as they do). I don't mind waiting to see if other stores pick this up before committing.
-
Pay later is available for the Lancer II. I think n-y only puts that "no pay later" restriction on limited Bandai releases (p-Bandai, Tamashii, and so on). The price is hard to swallow, the usual n-y business of adding/passing on copious fees. Hm...HLJ picked up a batch of the premium finish Hikaru 1S last time. I wonder what the chances are that they might pick up a batch of these, along with Roy's premium 1S? I may wait a couple of days to see how things go with the other stores.
-
It's likely Forbes received a prototype/test shot for review, which might have been incomplete as far as tampo printing and accessories are concerned. With Arcadia, we have to wait until release day. Besides, this happened last year with the prototype photos for the Roy 1S strike set, and the retail version ended up being complete with all parts included. No need for the panic button yet.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2

Ooo, these could be tempting. I wonder how they will compare to the old Kenner diecast toys?
