The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
technoblue replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
A few things caught my interest from the third-party tfcon reveals this year: Planet X Pluto (Megatron) and that work in progress Ultra Magnus. GT-3 Leader (Bomber Megatron), should look good with GT's Optimus and Jazz. FansToys Quietus (Cyclonus), the IDW parts are sweet. This just might get me to pick up FansToys Galvatron if they reissue it. I'm already in for Arcee, Springer, Kup, and Caesium (Slag). MMC The Pet (Dominus Ambus), more DJD is always good. MMC Calidus Asterisk, I think I like this "Lost Light" version better than the standard release (I hope I can get one) It's too bad MakeToys didn't have any new Cross Dimension announcements. I was hoping to see something new for that line.- 9128 replies

Steven Moffat took over after Russel Davies, and finished his time as showrunner with Capaldi. Chris Chibnal (known most recently for Broadchurch) is the new showrunner with the new Doctor. Maybe. I always thought that the show was looking for ways to stretch itself creatively, while establishing more canon about the Time Lords as an alien race. Classic Who didn't go out of its way to describe the Time Lords very well. What we did get was more a product of limited budgets, strict ratings oversight, and (unfortunately) internal BBC politics. I think Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy were the Classic Who Doctors that got the short end of that political stick. Colin Baker was hurt because he and the showrunner at the time didn't see eye to eye, from what I understand. McCoy was made kid-friendly at first, but then got some very dark well-written episodes. Unfortunately those came late, and his time was hampered because the BBC lost interest in the show completely.

Repeating myself from another forum: they do compliment each other nicely. @no3Ljm: In case you haven't figure it out with all the good hints above, the Yamato version is on the left--that classic off-white grey with a rainbow canopy.

I'm not upset with the decision at all. Change between each Doctor is central to Who canon, and Missy was conceptualized so well as the Master too. I'm confident the same will be said for this Doctor once all is said and done. Before any of that, though, I still need to see Capaldi's final season.

I guess that's one spoiler I wasn't going to avoid. On a side note Jodie Whittaker bears a striking resemblance to Elizabeth Debicki of the Kettering Incident, or maybe it's just my poor eyesight. Coincidentally Debicki plays a doctor in that show, and I was just thinking how it would be nice to have a Doctor like her on Doctor Who.

Indeed they did, but the Frontier Shudisuta box set is out of print now. It would be cool if they decide to rerelease the subbed movies from that set someday.

I guess these ARMDs will fall apart if you try to dock them.

FullMetal Alchemist Live Action - Winter 2017
technoblue replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Huh. They went full on anime accurate with Riza Hawkeye. Looking at the rest of the promotional shots is uncanny. I feel like I'm playing the old Sesame Street game: One of these things is not like the other... *sob* Winry *sob*- 15 replies

I'd be down for a VF-1 Low Viz that was closer to the 1/48-scale paint scheme than the 1/60-scale paint scheme. I did have the Yamato "yellow-stripe" Roy Low Viz for a short time, and couldn't get into it so I sold it off. Also, since I couldn't fix my broken Yamato Nora, I'm definitely in for a new SV-51 too.

I didn't do it. They do look fantastic, don't they? I already have parts on the way for the AT-AT because I couldn't bring myself to pay the aftermarket price for the retired 75054 set. The Milano will be my next project. I figure if I can't wait, I'll pick up the small retail Milano since I need the minifigures anyway.

These caught my eye recently. Man, now that I'm having my own LEGO renaissance, MOCs could become a costly tangent. A Minifig-Scale AT-AT (Plus-Size) A Nice Minifig-ish Scale Milano

I wouldn't be surprised if Arcadia offers a premium release SDF-1. It would actually make sense this time. Whatever the case, though, I'm in. I only have the MegaHouse mini in my collection right now, and would be happy to pick this up without having to pay the scalper tax. Is that supposed to be the SDF-1 or a blinged out version of the Battle 7?
-
Nice find. Now I'm very, very curious... I do hope Arcadia is serious about bringing it back to retail. Since I don't have this, I'd be down for either version.

Not sure if you're trolling, but in the real world we have had the YF-22 and YF-23 Advanced Tactical Fighters. For those members who are familiar with the real world jets, I think it's easy to equivocate or conflate Advance with Advanced, especially since this toy is a modified version of Isamu's YF-19. At least, I know I make that common mistake myself. Anyway, now that I've completely bored everyone with an explanation, I'll go back to enjoying the VF-19 Advance(d).

Swapping out the heat shield out is simple enough. Getting a spare Roy 1S heat shield, or making your own Skull Squadron heat shield in black, is the real trick.

Ha! I love the heat shield mod, @Astralith. It works aces with Hikaru's DYRL 1S. -
^Yep. That's how it's done.

Maybe it was just a test for prime day? It's gone now. Edit: In my area, it looks like Amazon is using the Nintendo Switch to promote their new brick and mortar book stores. Good think I'm not in a rush to get one of these. Finding one is more difficult than finding a Bandai Valkyrie on pre-order night.

Thanks for the fair and balanced review, Jenius. Ugh. You have the worst luck with Arcadia and QC issues. My copy doesn't have any problem locking together flush, thankfully. More surprising to me is the print rub. I would have expected Arcadia to apply a more durable top coat to the premium finish version and avoid that abnormal wear and tear. Anyway, it's good to know that the hinge connector on the cockpit has a high potential for rub. I'll have to add a top coat of some sort, maybe even a simple coat of future to help protect those markings. These are definitely too expensive, though, especially if they are getting packaged with QC issues that one would expect to find in the standard release. I was thinking of picking up a premium 1S Max after Roy if Arcadia ever got around to it. Now, I'm not so sure. I guess a lot will depend on how well Roy is out of the box for me.

My copy of Roy Premium shipped from NY this morning. I think that's the fastest they've ever processed an order for me. I only got their changed release date message and hour earlier.

It looks like both companies are shaping up to be real winners, especially now that Gigapower is reportedly using a new factory and has tightened up their QC issues. I was disappointed with the waist waggle on my copy of Guttur, which is what originally got me looking at FansToys. With the way things are looking nowadays, I wouldn't mind having both sets: one of the metallic GP and one of the X version FT dinos. There are only two problems with this plan: 1) it is a very expensive path 2) it will take up a lot of space.- 9128 replies

Regarding AE, once they have your order and you've paid for it, you're good. They have a private warehouse of sorts too, so if you order other things from them later on you can ship it all out together.
-
I was falling asleep when that popped up. I'm glad I could help. Edit: Looks like HLJ is order stop again. Congrats to those who got in on the last open window.
