  1. Yeah, I understand. Although I don't buy the "plus" versions, I do pick up the Diaclone repaints, and I'm always tempted to get something I missed when filling in those gaps. I ended up getting Grapple that way. Originally, I just wanted Inferno and Art Fire, but when I went to buy Art Fire I ended up getting Grapple too. On a completely different note, I received my metallic version of GP's Graviter (Sludge) this week. Woot! It's such a unique and pleasing interpretation of the big brute. GP's Graviter is slightly bigger/taller than FT's Stomp, which is already big compared to the other FT dinos. The thing is, I'm really enjoying both implementations—how GP goes overboard on the gimmicks and how FT is chasing the toon look. I'm looking forward to adding GP's Swoop later. Sludge and Swoop were the only two G1 Dinobots I had as a kid.
  2. BadCube's gimmicks are winning me over on these two: the alternate faces, the jetpack, working doors and headlamps. All of it looks fun. Also, the alt mode looks really sleek and I hope that's indicative of the final retail version. TT's original Lambor and Alert releases were good in bot mode but could be gappy in alt mode. For that reason, I've been skipping the official "plus" carbots. If a third party like BadCube wants to improve on the official toon accurate carbots, I'm in.
  3. Sure. Here's the standard link (hope I got it right). http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/topic/37471-tribute-to-the-dyrl-toho-dub/
  4. I don't think so... I believe the old Toho dub only ever made it from VHS to laserdisc officially. That said, you might be able to spin your own DVD/BD by searching old threads here on MW.
  5. Search for tekering, Gundam@EFSF, and ArchieNov. They've all posted their thoughts and some pics already in this thread. Saburo is also posting pics and thoughts in the recent purchases thread. I don't know if there are any video reviews yet for the PF version.
  6. I think @M'Kyuun is looking for a good video review, and they are delayed given what Mike noted above. My review is more of an in-hand user review. I don’t know if that is reputable or not, but I do consider it legitimate since I paid for the toy and have been messing with it this weekend. At the bare minimum, I like to think that I can pronounce Rouge as rouge instead of rogue, but that is better left to the grammar police—a job I abstain from outside of work. As always, my opinions are my own and your mileage may vary.
  7. Heads up to those who are waiting on Planet Steel Express. I got my shipping notification for Stig early this morning, so things are moving again. I'll be late to that party, but it will be amusing if they also ship out my copy of Ray in the next few days.
  8. For all its G1 accuracy, I couldn't get into FT-10 Phoenix, which is saying a lot since it is regarded as one of FansToys' best releases. That's not really a criticism of the figure, it's more of an admission that I'm not a fan of Jetfire's G1 look. I think FansToys added some interesting accents with the metallic red, but it wasn't enough to get me to buy in. I'm really excited to see Maketoys apply their Cross Dimensions creativity to more characters. Doing everything Optimus for a while was fun, but it will be nice to have someone other than Megatron to pose with all the multi-verse Optimi. Skywing looks to be a definite pre-order, but I really want to see the final color scheme. Will MT go G1-ish or will they change it up somewhat? That is something I'm very curious about. FT-24 is something of a mixed bag for me. I think Rouge is the best looking G1 Arcee we have to date. The figure poses well, and has a very user-friendly face swap mechanism. If having a movie shelf/diorama is to your liking, she will be a star. The figure is not what I would call fun to transform though, and there are QC issues, especially with the fitment of the diecast chest pieces to the diecast abdomen. After a few back and forth transformations, I'm left wondering why Rouge has so much diecast, actually. I think she would have benefited from less, but what do I know? The paint flaking/rubbing on the chest pieces is the most frustrating thing out of the box. It appears that the larger chest piece (which comes pre-installed) has different tolerances than the more angular toon chest piece. Neither piece really connects to the white tabs on front of the abdomen all that well. The larger chest does a better job, but isn't 100% secure (and can come undone if you try to pose Rouge's head without holding things in place. The toon chest will often not connect at all, and forcing it to do so will cause some serious paint damage due to friction. The body of the car is mostly tucked up away in her pylons, so in that sense she is a shell-former, but I don't take FansToys to task for that. The way everything is tucked into those pylons is clever, if convoluted. I recommend being careful with the parts the first time you transform Rouge back and forth from bot to alt to bot. Tucking everything back in for bot mode can be especially challenging if you don't note how things were oriented to begin with. There are some other things to note: Bot mode doesn't have many tabs to secure pieces (the pylons float on her back and are poseable, for instance), but alt mode has a bunch of tabs to keep her future-car shape. Some of the smaller tabs are easy to miss. Again, those chest pieces are an annoyance here. Two tabs connect the bot chest to the trunk/bonnet of the car. Once you have that piece together, it slots into the cockpit/cabin area. If this second step is missed it will keep the front of the car from looking flush. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give Rouge a 7. She looks good, but she requires modification to fix some issues. Even if you are lucky to have a copy with no issues, I think the way FansToys uses diecast parts here does get in the way of a fun transformation. I'm looking forward to MMC's Ocular Max take on Azalea, and if Takara ever decides to do an official MP Arcee I would also be interested in seeing their take on her. In short, Rouge is okay but she clearly doesn't take the throne.
  9. LoL! No kidding. I'm hopeful, though, given what @ArchieNov wrote above about his delivery. The other picture they sent showed the inside and the thickness of the cardboard, which seems heavy duty. If FromJapan recommends repackaging it and tossing Arcadia's brown box, I might do that too. I'm not fussed about keeping it as long as the stuff inside is okay.
  10. From Japan received my PF SDF-1, but the shipper box was damaged in transit. They sent me a note early this morning with attached photos, asking me how I want to proceed. The good news is that the damage looks superficial to me, so I'm going to have them ship it when they open after the weekend. I did ask them if they could reinforce the shipper box, either with tape or by double boxing the item for its trip overseas. We'll see what they say... Here's one of the photos they sent. It looks like the box knocked into something on the way to their warehouse.
  11. I know! My wallet isn't thanking me either, @wm cheng. I need to stop watching these teaser videos. There's too much coming out all at once. The good thing with Lego is that there will be time to pick up what really interests me later. There's no need to give into first-day order madness.
  12. Here's the designer video for the new UCS Y-Wing.
  13. Oops. LoL! I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out, @Scyla, which is funny considering how I'm trying to be extra careful myself now that FansToys Rouge is out.
  14. Indeed. Early reports are saying that the set will include a Gold Leader minifig and a different astromech than the last UCS Y-Wing. I'm not sure about the scale, though. It seems a little larger than the Rogue One playset.
  15. I was thinking along the same lines at lunch. If Arcadia updated the mold as well as the finish, then this would be worth a look. If they only update the finish, though, I would pass. Bandai's YF-19 should satisfy my detail itch and the price isn't too outrageous. My guess is that an Arcadia premium/weathered YF-19 would cost close to what the premium VF-0S costs today.
  16. I might pick up the new UCS Y-Wing set. I only have a couple of the standard play sets: the ancient 7150/7152 box set that combined the Y-Wing with Vader's Tie Advanced and the Rouge One 75172 set. I don't have the old UCS Y-Wing, so this new one with the added greebles/details tempts me. I am concerned about the number of stickers that Lego might use to "fake" things on the cockpit section, though. If there are too many stickers, I might look into more brick-built mods. @M'Kyuun — The transforming Y-Wing is very clever, and a fun reinterpretation of the design. Thanks for the link. Wow. Incredible stuff over there.
  17. I'm still very much a newbie when it comes to the Ninjago theme. I totally forgot about those mechs. Ninjago started up and got big while I was taking a vacation from my Lego habit. Today, I do have a few of the Ninjago dragons on my wish list. Looking at len_d's ideas prototype, it's hard to say how things will end up. I love how the individual lions are already in the early photos. How they connect will be an interesting puzzle that I can't wait to see solved. I agree that the AT-AT leg joint would be a good compromise for the combined legs. That said (and I think you've stated as much too), it would be very VERY cool if they end up creating some new pieces, especially if those pieces end up migrating into new mech sets down the road. The Hulkbuster mod should be fun to put together. It's been a while since I've built something using Lego without any explicit instructions, although I want to build Lego's original version too for comparison's sake. Time for me is also key.
  18. Even if Lego drops the ball in the articulation department for Voltron, which would be disappointing since Exo Force and Bionicle both showed us they know how to do mechs and robots, at least we still have clever expert designers to provide aftermarket mods. Perhaps even @len_d69 would help out if it came to that, since he knows the design intimately. As for the UCS Hulkbuster, I'm getting the parts together for the improved articulation mod. It's a shame this wasn't all there straight out of the box, but kudos to Chubbybots (Kelvin Low) for figuring it out.
  19. Order 11983316. I received a late confirmation notice from HLJ, but cancelled my order after securing another order at cdjapan. I have not received any additional messages from HLJ since cancelling my order.
  20. I'm four episodes into Violet Evergarden... Having seen and enjoyed Saikano Heiki Kanojo, my first impression is that this anime is something of the flip side of that one. I took to the character development straight away (I love that in all good shows), and seeing Violet take to her mission to learn to live freely. It's gripping and emotional, and one of my favorites this season. Recommended.
  21. Yeah. Something was awry with the site on pre-order night. You weren't alone. Many forum members were reporting a lag between placing orders and receiving a confirmation message from HLJ. It took 30 minutes for me to get my confirmation message. In that time, I ended up securing another order at cdjapan instead. I think the site error caused a bit of chaos on HLJ's end. I didn't receive any notice this morning, so I think that my cancellation went through cleanly. At least, I hope that it did.
  22. Hi, Hurin! Thanks for all the effort you put into the DVD subtitles. The BD thread had some links/information to retimed subs, but they may be expired now. Still, it may be a good resource for information.
  23. I don't think so. I bought the original release BDs, which included some sturdy boxes with disc 3, 6, and 9. A limited release collector's box, like the smaller sized SBY 2199 collector's box would be nice.
  24. I wasn't expecting to pick up any seekers after I sold off my MPs, but once I researched Maketoys Meteor I took another chance. I also picked up the shin/chest parts to add back in the missing toy greebles. And boy did I cave. Hard. Now I have Skycrow and Lightning on order too. I love the engineering and the toon accuracy. It's great that Maketoys is including extra stuff in the retail box, but I'm also glad that there are mod options out there, because I love having choices. On a related note, I'm also really into MAAS Toys' take on the Tetra Jets. There goes my plan to keep the number of seekers down to three. And now for something completely different: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/73304 I'm liking this Rodimus better than MMC's version. Since I missed MMC's pre-order that's lucky, but *ouch* the price smarts.

    Hi-Metal R

@sh9000 I gotta admit you really do have some choice HMR displays. I've grown to become quite envious of your ability to put together your dioramas that mimick scenes from the anime. I wish I had the same passion/motivation. It's really fantastic stuff. Would love to see what you'd put together given a complete line of Macross Plus HMR Valkyries. Anyway, just wanted to thank you.
