The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
technoblue replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You're welcome, @sh9000! With luck, NY will have a good discount too. I'm actually very curious now to see what other Masterpiece figures Takara might revisit after Convoy, if any. Ultra Magnus is at the top of my own personal wish list. I think the new Siege version of Magnus is showing some interesting ideas. The Takara engineers evidently still have Magnus on their mind, which is cool.- 16670 replies

Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures (YT Series)
technoblue replied to spacemanoeuvres's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah. It remains a lost opportunity. If the Skywalker story was limited to the original trilogy, and then we got another set if characters or family to focus on with each subsequent trilogy, I do think Star Wars would have been better for it. -
Sad to say I’m not surprised by this move at all, no matter what the actual reason is behind the scenes. Will enjoy the rest of Jessica Jones and Punisher, though, until Netflix punches the eject button on them.

I'm going to remain skeptical, myself until Bandai does something official at this scale (like show a new display with these items or reveal release dates and pricing information to the public). For now, it seems more plausible to me that any diorama or play set add-ons would be fit more to the Macross HMR series. We've seen that already in the HMR marketing displays, so there's a precedent there. Heck, we've even seen Bandai tease HMR-scale stands modeled after Zentraedi capital ships.

Neflix's live action Cowboy Bebop
technoblue replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, that live-action Bleach movie was okay and I hope they are able to make good on the easter egg/promise at the very end. I'll give Cowboy Bebop a chance. I still need to watch the live-action version of Fullmetal Alchemist. Death Note couldn't hold my attention like the anime; Space Battleship Yamato was a superb train wreck.- 303 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wow. For some reason, I thought you were further along after reading your review, @kajnrig. But if you have just finished season one, then you are in for quite a ride. Glad to see you were able to get past those initial doldrums. Also, pay attention to the commercial bumps that pop up halfway between each episode. You may have noticed already, but they provide more information on the story's mythology. -

That sounds about right. If v3 Prime is priced between MP-36 and MP-43, then I would be okay with that. To be honest, the third party iterations have not won me over for various reasons, so I am hoping that Takara hits it out of the ballpark in the quality department and that I can pick this guy up at a discount somewhere. Of course, I'm not against an improved KO if Takara drops the ball like they did with the paint on MP-36 Megatron. I wouldn't mind a v3 Prime KO in the same vein as Impossible Transformation, for instance. Something like the old MP-10 KOs, however, I'll skip. I was unlucky with those and always got flimsy figures.- 16670 replies

Beyond Hikaru and Roy, my only interest is in getting a complete Vermillion Team at this scale if Bandai decides to release Max and Kakizaki. I'm also curious to see how a "TV" parts pack will work for those two.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So...Studio Trigger is really showing their love for Transformers with the SSSS.Gridman characters. Some eagle-eyed fans over at the tfw2005 forums noticed the connection/easter egg. It's pretty uncanny how Rikka and Akane are designed after Shattered Glass Megatron and Optimus, respectively. The other characters match up with other Transformer counterparts too. Check it out (a general spoiler warning applies, since the members over there are using the thread to discuss the show): http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/shattered-glass-a-reference-for-ssss-gridman.1161913/ What else am I watching? I binged the latest season of The Seven Deadly Sins on Netflix. It was all right. I enjoyed Diane's side story, Ban's side story, and how we get to meet Escanor which made for some fun battle scenes with the Ten Commandments who also finally show up. The pig, as usual, serves up a decent dose of comic relief. The main arc with Meliodas, though--is he going to go full dark side or come back to the light? I must confess, the way they are dragging that out is starting to get tedious. I started to watch Princess Principle too. Ah, the music! I'm really into it, and the other-world London art design. -
The items listed here are for general release. https://tamashii.jp/special/pickup/201904sbkv/ Meaning that the HMR VF-1D, SHF Spike, and the other two will be available for pre-order from most on-line shops. If the figure/toy is popular, pre-orders can sell out quickly, hence pre-order madness. The good news for general release items is that there is a fair chance that there will be more stock on release day if you miss the pre-order. Hope that helps!

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
There's no need to apologize for your opinion. I know this is the Internet and that is kind of opposite the way things work, but we all get and like different things and that's okay. I liked Violet Evergarden, and I thought the pacing was perfect, given how the show's premier focus was on the main character's prost-traumatic stress disorder. I think my empathy comes from my own experience with mental issues, which I won't go into here. The writing was also a relatable backdrop (since that's what I do for work), and in this anime I found it to be a clever vehicle through which the team involved brought Violet to different places and let her grow from where we see her in episode one (unsure by civilian life, and still limited by her military duties) to where she ends up at the end. As a fantasy, with science-fiction elements, I can see how it could be classified as far-fetched. But I didn't mind that aspect at all. The secondary story, the love story, could have been given more weight, but I don't think it was lost in the telling. It was just that all that exposition was saved until the end. Again, it was a piece that required much patience for an invested member of the audience to get the final reward. -
This scale works so well for my space. I’m turning more and more into a completionist, and I never thought I would be for HMR, but yeah I’m down for one 1D (maybe two) on pre-order day—Spike too. Very interested to see what other gimmicks are included at release too, in addition to the Minmay gimmick. The slung cockpit seems like an obvious choice, but who knows?

Welp, I couldn't wait the week. I was able to hold out for two days. and watched episode four earlier this evening. So, I'll continue to keep my reactions hidden.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
There was some discussion a number of pages back. To summarize, most were recommending it, although there were one or two members who didn't (or couldn't) connect with Violet's situation. I would say that Violet Evergarden is like The Ancient Magus' Bride in that it takes its time with world building and character development, and getting to the point. That is, it's very careful in how it reveals the important details--they come as a trickle and not as a flood. Anyway, when I watched it, I found the story to be very rewarding. The OVA is also on Netflix now and I've been meaning to watch it. Perhaps I'll catch up on that over the holiday weekend... -
[Netflix] She-Ra Princess of Power
technoblue replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I like how new She-Ra is defining/redefining the characters. I don't know if Hordak will have more of a role to play in subsequent seasons, but I'm hoping he will too. His role in this first season was important, if subtle, since his actions pushed a certain someone along. I think his role was similar to Haggar's in the first season of new Voltron, and she became more visible (likewise more important) in subsequent seasons of that show. Anyway, I'm really enjoying the character interactions, myself. I don't know if She-Ra will show us anything definitively evil just yet. The show might work up to that, though. I do like how it appears to be redefining the line between light and dark as a balance. It isn't always shown as an extreme gap, but sometimes just a miscommunication, a step in the opposite direction, or a choice that has a grave consequence. So, yeah, I completed the first season over the weekend too. Much fun was had. There is one issue that the show brought up that was pretty salient. At least, I thought it was as an adult watching (I'll put this under a spoiler tag) -
Bandai’s suggested retail price is 12960JPY, which includes tax. I think amiami shows the suggested retail price with no discount only when there are no pre-order slots left. Or, if an item is released, when there is no stock left. HLJ is similar when applying their standard 5% discount to orders. That isn’t to say that on-line shops won’t take advantage of an item’s popularity, though. I’ve seen that too.

Mm. The third episode is another fun world-building/character-building episode that answered a number of questions, and introduced some poignant new ones. The show continues to impress. Those of you who are behind a week are in for a treat.

This year's updated mould was the Garland. The Premium Finish reissues included Max, Milia, Roy's VF-0S, and the DYRL SDF-1. Not a bad year, IMO. The slower pace is easier on my wallet too since most of those were high ticket pre-orders (and I skipped the Garland).

Arcadia Premium Finish Max and Miria 1/60 Super VF-1J
technoblue replied to davidwhangchoi's topic in Toys
Yikes! I wonder if it is worth trying to reinforce the hard points before using them with the larger reaction missiles, or if this is just a bum Valkyrie lottery where some will break no matter what?
