The leg and chest armour look similar to the previous VF-25 sets. Not sure what to think about what else is going on up top. It looks very busy in the photo. The dual cannons are cool, but gosh I'm still undecided on this. To me, the lighter grey makes it look like the Valkyrie is sealed in an extravehicular mobility unit.

Although the movie designs aren't to my taste, I appreciate how well they capture the other-worldly nature of each Transformer in bot mode. To me it seems like this mode is the strong point of the Studio Series Bayverse figures. Megatron here, for instance, comes together in an impressive way--and I do like that cloak gimmick. I have no memory of Igor from DotM (is that bad?), although his toy form reminds me of toon Kremzeek, so I guess one could always pretend that he is an analogue for that zany bolt of G1 energy.- 16670 replies

I bought my first official Transformers combiners yesterday. I couldn't resist the Unite Warriors reissue of Devastator, and then I bought PotP Predaking too. Both are the right price and look to be the right scale to stand with most of the 1st and 3rd-party figures in my collection. Also. the add-on packs are still easy to find. I'm also looking at Abominus, since the four limb bots are easy to pick up at Hasbro's new shop which means I only have to search for the main guy Hun-Gurrr. I guess the flood gates have opened. So yeah, I was trying hard to hold the line and avoid another rabbit hole (my stubborn resistance is well-documented here and in the third-party thread), but now I'm looking forward to these warts and all.- 16670 replies

I got that impression, and I thought it was just me. I loved it all the more because of it.

Yeah, I just got the VIP email about it myself. No early-bird orders for this one. It goes live in a week. Looking forward to it.

On this point, not being well-versed in the comic, I have to admit... I wasn't aware of too many plot holes in my first time through. I'm planning to watch it again more carefully in a week or so. I'll have to see if I can pick up on the stuff that I missed. Nice. There were a number of story elements that I thought did pick up in pace after the first two episodes.

All opinions are welcome. I did ask for them, after all. Yes, the ending was obvious, but I think that set up was the point. The journey to get there was quite entertaining and I did have a lot of fun with the dysfunctional relationships and time travel bits and bobs. More specifically on that latter point, it's nice to watch a show where the "traveler" character has holes in his knowledge even if he believes himself to be (and comes across as) a know-it-all. It reminds me of the movie Memento in some ways, but without all the scenes being played out of order (better yet 12 Monkeys with all the time travel paradox narrative). Also, I really grew into the blue-collar characterization of Hazel and Cha-Cha. I have no idea if the "time protection agency" is characterized with similar levels of management in the comics but it was so odd and yet so unique to see those visuals here.

I found this over on Dark Horizons, and it seems to confirm most of what has been implied in the discussion about the breakup here. Netflix was upset that they didn't have any ownership rights for their original Marvel TV series, which were costly to produce, and that resulted in this Disney/Marvel coup. http://www.darkhorizons.com/more-details-on-netflixs-marvel-cancellations/ It's too bad that Netflix and Marvel/Disney were unable to work out a revised contract. I'm not so sure our future Internet will be able to support endless streaming networks. With a limited number of viewers to give each media conglomerate a dedicated stable audience, these networks will be fighting for our eyes and ears. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the next five to ten years.

Thanks, guys. That's good information. It makes me want to pick up the comics even more now—to read the story from that perspective. And thanks to the mod who moved this to the right place. I didn't even notice I was in the toys forum when I posted it (oops).

Did anyone else catch the release of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix over the weekend? It's based on the comic of the same name by Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá. From what I understand, it's a very good small screen interpretation whose artistic license improves on the character stories. I haven't read the comics yet, myself so I would like to hear more from those who have. Anyway, as someone who is new to these characters and this universe, all I'll say up front is that I started watching it on a whim and got so very hooked. I binged it from Friday through Monday. Now I'm searching around for copies of the comics, but I find myself very lost on that front. Here's the official Netflix teaser, in case you have yet to see it.

It's not impossible. Thinking about all the movies Disney helped to publish under its Touchstone Pictures label--films like Apocalypto, The Life Aquatic, Good Morning Vietnam, and Starship Troopers. Disney would be in a better position to compete with Netflix if they followed a similar model with their streaming service and published a variety of shows for all ages, including adults. With that setup, moving the popular Netflix Marvel series to a Disney-owned service wouldn't be too farfetched. The real downer, from an article I read back in December, is that it will be a year or two before the Netflix contracts end and free the characters up for new projects. If that's true, any speculation about what Disney may or may not do is probably a wash at this point.

Sad, but expected given recent events. I guess the one question that remains is this: Will the TV characters and plots disappear into the ether or show up in some form on Hulu or Disney's new streaming service?

Myself, I'm a Gen-X'er, but I will say that Alita's eyes didn't bother me in the least, And I can say the same for my friend who went with me since she said as much. It was one of the few CG things that impressed her. She doesn't get impressed by much effects-wsie (HaHa!). Technically, I was floored with how seamless Alita's CG eyes worked in this movie, especially while watching the 3D version. Compared to Cameron's Avatar, where it did feel a bit uncanny valley for a brief moment until I adapted to it, I didn't have any similar sensation this time out. For me, the whole experience just shows how much things have improved and how well it was all put together. I hope the movie does pull in the numbers to get a sequel or two, because I would love to spend more time in the cinematic universe.

I saw it today in 3D with someone who didn’t know the manga or the anime. We both enjoyed the film, and the 3D effects worked quite well during the action scenes and... I still have to read the manga, myself. I’ve been waiting to start until after watching the movie. Now I can begin.

HaHa! Yeah, the pictures of the old glossy stands don't impress so much. It's subtle but I do like what Arcadia has done, visually, to make the stand their own and changing the base to make room for storage was a smart move.
-
It's not just you. The matte grey stands do look very cool. Also, I wonder if Arcadia plans to tease a matte deep blue version or if they will keep things simple and stick with the two colours they've shown for now (black and grey)? Maybe if the initial run of their launch arm stand performs well they will consider other colours for subsequent releases?

I was happy to see Bakugo too. I'm hoping the rumored reissue for Midoriya works its way in around the same time, because I missed the first release.

Thank you, Xigfrid. They are small, but I was off in my post above with the numbers. One order is for a 15-piece bar/block of 5 x 2.5 x 2mm neodymium magnets. The price isn't as bad as I thought.

What do people think about the next Creator Expert vehicle: the '67 GT Mustang? My understanding is that the page was accidentally posted to Lego's site early, but was then quickly taken down. Some eagle-eyed visitors copied the image and have been making the rounds with it. Here it is: Looking at the photo, myself, I'm really into this. The Aston Martin was okay, but had some weaknesses when one looked at it with a critical eye. The Mustang looks about as good as you can get with Lego today. The curves are in the right places highlighting the hood/bonnet and the rear of the car. And unless my eyes are playing tricks, it may even be that they got that side panel detail on the door without resorting to a sticker (or printing) which will be fun to assemble. The engine air intake is nice and subtle, and helps to bring the front end together. Speaking of the front end, I like how they've modeled the bumper, grille, and lights. I'm very curious to see how the back of the car looks and to see all the gimmicks this Creator Expert car employs. The picture appears to imply that a working steering mechanism is a given, and that we will have working doors (which I would expect given the history of the line). Anyway, very excited for more news!

Welp...I placed my second order for the Shapeways parts. I wanted to get that done before the perfect storm of toy releases begins. The downside is that I wasn't able to take advantage of a good discount, so the parts are coming at premium price...no big deal, though. I'm pretty excited to see them up close--to see how easy they are to work with and how well they take primer and paint. In other news, I'm getting ready to pick up the neodymium magnets. I bought a test sample from this US source last week. https://www.magnet4sale.com/bar-block-magnet-neodymium-rare-earth-n50-5mm-x-2-5mm-x-2mm-15-pc/ The downside is that they are expensive here, so I want to make sure that I get the correct amount. Are 4 or 6 magnets required for the final assembly? In the transformation video I was able to spy 4 (and I was thinking of buying 8 to eventually build 2 Valkyries), but I understand that the design has had a number of revisions since its inception. I figure it's best to ask first. Also, is there a recommended type of glue that I should use to attach the magnets once I get to that step?

No rest for weary wallets, though...Here’s the link to the wonderful hobby life 4 you page. There are quite a few MF figmas on the list, but no updates on Freeing’s Priss with Motoslave: http://whl4u.jp/wh29/gallery/en/#/images/1 Highlights... Finally, Batou. Darkness... We'll have a complete KonoSuba team! Mako and Arthur Pendragon are all on my short list... Oops...Sorry, late night. Fixed my post.

Yeah, Yamato's Nora had a soft plastic that also became brittle with time. I don't remember if the original release of Ivanov had the same problem, although I do remember once I ran into it with my copy of Nora it was already a well known QC issue around these parts. If Arcadia is using a stronger, more resilient plastic for their version then that is great news, and I hope Ivanov does well enough so that they consider redoing Nora with all the same fixes.

In addition to the paint scratching and structural issues reported by jenius, the Tampo printing on some copies was slightly misaligned from the factory. The easiest way to check is to look at the intake warnings on the left and right legs. Copies that had this issue, had one warning that was slightly offset from the other when comparing the two intakes. It was a minor thing, but it could trigger you if you are inclined to obsess over the small details. I had to box up my copy for a while before I was able to shrug it off. Dunno what I will do with a spare 0D now since I don't have a spare 0S anymore. Making the 0C and 0B is a fun idea.

Yeah, MP Blackarachnia was a lovely surprise (Beast Wars keeps calling me back), although I’m just okay with v2 Bumblebee for now. There’s something about v2 Bee’s design that has me curious and I do want to see Takara’s strange v2 creature up close, so I think I might get one if I can find a good deal on him. Poor Hound was pushed back reportedly to fix some issues. But wow, I haven’t paid attention to the mainline classics since the Transformers Prime days, but these Siege reveals are hard to ignore! Armada Prime, Star Convoy, Jetfire...all of them look impressive.- 16670 replies
