  1. It's not the godfather gif, but I think it's appropriate.
  2. Indeed. The original show definitely has its own charm. And I also liked the idea that there were more creatures, more dangers to face in the universe than just Cylons and humans trying to muck up the plan to find a new home. The original show had some interesting guest stars too. I think Fred Astaire's performance was one of his last on screen live action roles. I struggled with watching NuBSG for the longest time. All my friends were like, "You gotta see this!", but I kept trying and stopping because it was so jarring. So many of the main characters were grimdark reflections of who I remembered on the old show as a kid, and I wasn't really sure what the core message was at first. On a bit of a silly note, I also wasn't a fan of how NuBSG changed the catchphrase from "By your command" to "So say we all". Now, well, both shows have my respect and I can see how they have their own identities. Seeing NuBSG for the first time was a shock, though, and I think fans who started with that will be in for a similar shock when Sam Esmail presents his version of the myth. Happy to say, I've already gone through the BSG grieving process.
  3. Ah, but the original BSG is worth seeing, if for no other reason than to see some classic late 1970s sci-fi. Historically, it serves as a nice vehicle to introduce oneself to the core ideas that Moore and Eick would run with again in the 2004 reboot. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. But alas, as @Thom notes above, what crippled the original series was all the network meddling. For instance, Larson had pitched the show as a three-part miniseries. The first part being Saga of a Star World, which then became the TV show's first three episodes. I think a lot was lost in translation when Larson and his team were "asked" to move away from the made-for-TV movie paradigm. Clearly, the move hurt the show's effects budget. Maybe there is some parallel universe where it all worked out. Oh well.
  4. Sweet! The end of my DYRL collection is in sight. And the PF 0D is looking good too. Would love a PF Nora to go with (ankle fix included) some point down the line.
  5. Hikaru's VF-1S will release after this. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess although there is a Tamashii Nations event from October 25-27 where we might find out more.
  6. Thanks, MacrossJoe. That's good news. I'll have to file a customer ticket for my own defective copy then, and see if NY will allow a return/replacement.
  7. Indeed. Sam Esmail's Mr. Robot is well done so I have hope that he can do some good in the NuBSG universe. If nothing else, he should be able to whip up something that is much, much better than Caprica. Also this:
  8. So mine arrived yesterday from NY. Was going to sit this one out, but got the Macross bug in the end. Sorry to say that I noticed the crooked right foot in fighter mode before I even opened the box thanks to this thread. Transformed from fighter to battroid and back. Aside from the two left ankles, the Valkyrie is solid. It’s a bummer about the factory error, but I don’t think I’m bothered enough by it to request a return. The right foot slides out all right even with the reversed ankle. On the other hand, I would be into a printed ankle replacement part if one were made.
  9. Ha! If I had known they were going to open up the Black & Gold version to everyone, I would have waited for it. Now I'm not sure if I'm going to bite. A lot depends on how good the black and red one turns out. For now, I think good build quality is something of a lottery for the Kitzconcept Valkyries. At least, for the moment. I only have my TV Roy 1S to go by. My black and red edition shipped yesterday. My copy of TV Roy 1S which shipped last month arrived with many of the same issues that @jenius observed in his AnyMoon review earlier in the year: the cockpit was not closing flush (on my copy this was because the pilot's seat was mounted at too proud of an angle--good news is the seat was easy to pop off and fix); attaching the missiles broke the hardpoints due to their death grip (I still need to try filing down the tabs and see if that helps at all); one of the head laser pivots is very, very stiff and the other is very, very loose to where it droops in fighter mode. Apart from that, there is the usual paint blemishes and scuffing from transformation but I would count that sort of thing as normal wear and tear.
  10. I canna help either. I bought MP-36, MP-36+ and IT01. I also have MMC's Reformatted Tyrantron, Maketoys Despotron (Cross Dimension-scale and MP-scale), and Generation Toy's Tyrant. Megs is that good, but yeah I have a soft spot for his Masterpiece (v2) iteration.
  11. I finished watching Carole & Tuesday last night. It was a fun first season and I'm interested to see where the story goes from here. More rambling thoughts are hidden beneath the spoiler tag.
  12. I started watching Carole & Tuesday on Netflix this weekend. It's sublime. I'm hooked.
  13. Oof. That's a tough question. Back in the day, I bought the original MP-10SG KO which had a different purple with black and yellow accents, and darker blue legs. It was one of the better MP-10 KO releases, although I've long since passed it on. Looking at price alone, I have to admit that buying the official version of MP-10SG for less than MP-18+ is a ridiculous (read utterly fantastic) deal. The HasTak official MP-10SG tweaks the colors, but is highly regarded. I say go for it if you want a version of MP-10 w/trailer to add to your collection. The only downsides to this release are that you don't get roller and fitting the matrix in can sometimes be a chore. Apart from that, if you like the official release colors, you're golden. However, if you find you prefer the purple and darker accents of the older KO, you are not completely out of luck. Transform Element looks to be using a similar colorway for TE-01E. Edit to add a link to Fabian Wong's photos comparing the old MP-10SG KO and HasTak's official https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/masterpiece-shattered-glass-optimus-prime-asia-exclusive-in-december.1088555/page-10#post-13969197
  14. Hm. It looks like the reviewer messed up the bottom piece of the backpack. I think it's suppose to accordion in more and the car hood then covers the kibble. But anyaway, Bee v2 (heh) does have this odd aura about him. There are a few limited camera angles where he is very photogenic and looks quite like his toon counterpart. And then there are other angles where the illusion falls apart and it looks like we are looking at Bee's stunt double (a la Spaceballs).
  15. Yeah. I have hope, and my experience with younger family members maps closer to what @Tking22 shared above. Still, we'll find out once Netflix has time to crunch numbers. The full title is a mouthful. The Crystal Calls: Making of the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance If you don't want to wait to the very end, you should be able to call the bonus documentary up by searching Netflix for The Crystal Calls.
  16. Hm. I always preferred puppet Yoda to CGI Yoda in the movies. The only time CGI Yoda made sense to me was during the heavy action-oriented Jedi battle scenes of the prequels. For the original trilogy, I was never convinced that the added effects were necessary. I went out of my way to get Harmy's Despecialized Edition on Blu-ray once it was available. Ha! I guess I'm old fashioned. With the Dark Crystal, I see the puppets as being part and parcel of that mystical environment. I agree that they have a look to them that is strangely familiar and yet uncomfortable at the same time. I don't know what it is, but the visualization helps to sell the otherworldly fantasy to me. I'm okay with that. The story is done in such a way that I'm able to connect with the puppet heroes emotionally. As I see them go through their daily lives, as I see them face challenges, betrayals, find friends and allies, learn more about who they are and how they see the world change around them. That became a big deal as I was watching. But anyway, that's just me. I am surprised how much this show, like Labyrinth, has gained a positive cult following in recent years. I'm also surprised, especially after the discussion here about CGI preferences, to hear that Netflix asked the Henson company for live action puppets after the idea was originally pitched as an animated series. This tidbit is part of The Crystal Calls documentary, which is also on Netflix. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the new series, and wants more insight into the behind-the-scenes work. Yes! It bears repeating: +1 for the making of documentary.
  17. The original film wasn't so much a hard sell as it was up against serious competition from Steven Spielberg. E.T. hit theaters that same year and was a mega hit. The Dark Crystal pulled in a respectable $40 million US domestically and still stands as one of the most profitable puppet-based movies today. Not bad, IMO.
  18. Not at all. This series works as a prequel to Henson’s original movie. You can save watching the movie to the very end, if you wish.
  19. I binged the season over the long weekend too, but loved every minute. I was quite impressed with how the Henson company brought more variety to the Gelfling with the seven clans. It will be very interesting to see how much further they are able to take the story if we get another season. Hint: I really hope we do get season 2.
  20. Woah. I wasn’t expecting NY to put up a pre-order. I checked the site a few times before I posted too. HaHa. More options are good.
  21. No. It goes on sale September 2nd but the pre-order page on Arcadia's site is already up. I'm using the link that @Sanity is Optional posted earlier (hint: it is quoted on this page ). On the From Japan site, make sure you sign in, then click "Other Sites" from the tab menu at the top of the page. Copy the Arcadia link for the PF VF-0D and paste it as the page you want to order from. Click "Go to Order Page" From Japan will ask for a few simple details: the name of the item, the model/product number, the size of the item, the color, You can also add a few pictures from Arcadia's site if you want. Once you fill everything in, submit the order and wait for From Japan to get back to you about the initial payment. You should have a short window to pay/agree to the terms of the transaction if all goes well.
  22. Yeah, just shy of $425US before shipping (ouchie ouch). At least I was ready for the sticker shock this time.
  23. That's really good news. I still haven't seen 2202, so I don't have any expectations (yet). Just happy to read that we are getting more neo Yamato.
  24. As others have noted, you can use either a proxy or forwarding service to buy directly from Arcadia. Here's a quick summary: A proxy (meaning a service like Buyee or From Japan) is a convenience service where a middleman buys exclusive items for you directly from a shop or auction site that doesn't ship internationally. There is a fee for this convenience, but usually everything works out for high priced items like this one. It's worth noting that proxies often require full payment up front for the item itself, and will then send two follow-up shipping payment requests. The first is for the domestic shipping to their warehouse. The second is for international shipping to you. A forwarding service (like Tenso) has a similar use model at a high level. You have a service that gives you a physical location in Japan to ship items which are then shipped to your international address. If you look a little more closely, though, the details are slightly different. With a forwarding service no one is ordering items for you. You are ordering the items yourself directly from your favorite Japan retailers and inputting the forwarding address as your "Japan" address. Also, in order to get a forwarding address, Japan law requires ID to verify that you are who you say you are.
