Lost in Space series a Netflix adventure?
technoblue replied to 007-vf1's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The first season surprised me in such a good way. I'm so looking forward to this. -
I say go for it. Give it a go, It's popped up in a number of threads on the forum with strong recommendations. I'm all caught up and waiting for the new season. Myself, I still need to start reading the books that the show is based on.

US/Canada orders are live; looks like it was 10AM pacific.
-
Not sure how payment works for this pre-order. This will be my first time using the Games Workshop store. Curious about what's delaying this for the US/Canada storefronts. All other GW storefronts have the pre-order up now, even the 'Rest of the World' page.
-
I don't see any restrictions, so I'm hoping the US & Canada sites will have their pre-order pages up today by 10 o'clock...noon at the latest.

Ironworks' modular design is what piqued my interest, more so than the Micromaster gimmick. Hm. I wonder if Grapple will work with his pieces/parts? That could be clever. Anyway, after doing more research on the Target Micromaster 10-pack, I'm going to wave off that purchase. The reviews I read are mixed.- 16670 replies

His tfwiki profile has two parts. The old G1 micromaster: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ironworks And the G1 micromaster base: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ironworks_(base) The new WFC-Earth toy looks like a homage to the ol' G1 base playset. The updated "truck" was included in Target's exclusive 10-pack of Siege micromasters, which I now need to buy. Plus one Hasbro, minus one my wallet.- 16670 replies

I gotta say, I was hoping WFC-Siege would have a little more room to breathe before being put off to pasture. I'm not sure what to think of all the WFC-Earth announcements. I'm going to have to wait and see about Grapple and Hoist. Starscream looks disappointing to me. There are a lot of design cues taken from the old classics deluxe. I was hoping for more of an update. I guess I will hold off until people start sharing their in-hand reports. Prime is okay. I do like his yellow eyes and bendy hands. I'm also very much into Jacky, Cliffjumper, and that out-of-left-field addition of Ironworks. Also, gotta give props to HasTak for Soundbarrier. A bot that transforms into a plank, which you can then use as a shield or a ramp or a bit of road.- 16670 replies

I decided to skip pre-order night--a decent sleep schedule is such a rare thing in Macross land. When I woke up this morning AJ was still taking orders, so I went with them. It will be interesting to see if the pre-order price guarantee kicks in. I also checked some of the other shops. These are showing available right now: Hobby Search https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10645793 (Anyway, it was letting me check out) AmiAmi https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=FIGURE-053210 HLJ, CDJ, and NY are all unavailable.

WAR OF THE WORLDS Trailer. BBC (Miniseries)
technoblue replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, that's fair. With the book, the preachiness reflected the internal bias of the two brothers narrating the eyewitness accounts (or Wells's own preachiness, depending on your point of view). With the series, I'm not sure we will get a narrator, so I guess they have to find other ways to get that information across. If the dialogue doesn't improve beyond the trailer soundbites, than at least it will make for a few good chuckles. "This is nothing to be concerned about!' I got a kick out of that line.- 22 replies

WAR OF THE WORLDS Trailer. BBC (Miniseries)
technoblue replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
@Dynaman - What potential obstacles are you seeing from the trailer? As I said, it was too short for me to get much out of it, but on another forum I frequent there has been discussion over a few minor nitpicks. Will the time period be late Victorian era or early Edwardian? Will the story focus on the two brothers from the novel or change that core relationship (as the BBC is wont to do nowadays). I don't know, but I guess it could be fun to speculate while we wait to find out.- 22 replies

I would also recommend Fry's Electronics and Micro Center. You can order from both stores online if there isn't a physical brick & mortar location out your way. -

Yeah. Newegg was sold in 2016, and hasn't really been the same since. These days I use either amazon.com or bhphotovideo.com. There are still some small online boutique shops around too, but the prices tend to be higher at those places. -
Ooo. If Bandai must do more Vf-4 repaints after Roy, then I would be head over heels for a VF-4 brownie or angel birds scheme. Just looking at the pictures above, I think those would get me to buy in on multiples of this Valkyrie more so than any Max/Milia repaints. But that's just me.

WAR OF THE WORLDS Trailer. BBC (Miniseries)
technoblue replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Mm. I've been waiting for more news about this one. I've read HG Well's original book, listened to the 1938 radio play, watched the 1953 movie and the 1980s television series. Heard about the docudrama, but haven't seen it yet. Anyway, this looks fun. I'm very keen to revisit the tale with the guise of HG Wells' historical setting. The trailer doesn't go deep into new territory (thankfully), so it doesn't spoil anything that I didn't read in articles from earlier this year and last year, Alas, even the design of the Martian tripod was spoiled early on.- 22 replies

Hm. I do like how things come together in fighter mode for Roy's VF-4. The bot shot was throwing off the look. I don't why, but no big deal. Now to cross fingers and hope Bandai has even more news to share in October.
-
It would have been cool if the black stripes evoked the angled look of the VF-X with added yellow/bronze accents. Still, I like Roy's colorway so I will probably pick this one up at some point. It whet my appetite for more HMR news, that's for sure.

Mm. I don’t mind the arrow either. Wish I had the spare time and steady hand to customize my copies, because there are other details from the SDF-1 Squadrons Master File that I think would look nice at this scale too. Oh well. For now, I just sit back and admire the work of others like that friendly twitter user or our own @Lolicon.
-
The yellow arrow is not part of Bandai's official print detail. It was custom detail added by a twitter user to their personal copy. @seti88 linked to the post a couple pages back. Or just check out beatsing's post above.

What a weekend! Once KitzConcept's customer support team received the photos I sent and were able to confirm the problem, they agreed to send a pair of replacement arms my way. Diagnosing the right leg issue required some additional surgery and poking about to confirm my suspicions, but I gotta give them props for all their help and guidance. KC sent instructions that showed me how to take apart the lower half of the intake to check for the ratcheting piece, which I did. Thankfully, It was an easy job with the right screwdriver and a plastic spudger. There is no glue in that location. Sure enough, comparing my Dark Red 1S to my Roy 1S, I was able to confirm that the ratcheting piece was missing. The spoiler shows the upper ratchet housing and some quality paint skillz. To be clear, since the Dark Red 1S is a limited release Valkyrie, they don't have 1:1 parts replacements. I'll be getting a white ratchet piece instead of a black one (not a big deal since it is hidden inside the leg) and the arms will be from a Dark Red 1S sample (not a big deal either). My Dark Gold 1S arrived yesterday. This one arrived with no issues, so things are looking up and up again. I gotta say too, I'm surprised with how much I'm enjoying this scale.

Dark Crystal age of resistance on Netflix
technoblue replied to Bolt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If I were to hazard a guess, I would say it's a limitation of the original movie's effects work. The new series doesn't need to disguise as much because CGI is being utilized as a tool to enhance the practical and mechanical effects. For instance, the larger puppets need two or three people to operate, which creates a lot of extra fluff when shooting film. The documentary shows how some of this gets cleaned up in post-processing.- 88 replies

Loving the new photos. Need to get off my butt and clear out some space, though.

Good news! Looking at your own photo above, I can see that your arms are ok. One less thing to check.

I'm having terrible luck with these releases. My Dark Red 1S arrived this week and I was excited to see that it improved on so much from my Roy 1S. Alas, I soon discovered that it had its own two issues: 1) The right arm is missing the slot for the left arm to tab into. Looking closer, that arm appears to be misassembled. 2) The gerwalk/guardian joint on the right leg is missing its ratchets and doesn't click like the same joint on the left leg or the two knee joints. I can have the right leg at full extension or locked in fighter mode, but nothing in between using the gerwalk/guardian leg bits. The upside is that KC customer service is very responsive. I already placed a return authorization with them, and sent photos. I'm waiting for more info on my next steps. With luck, they still have replacement parts on hand, but I don't mind an exchange either as long as the new one is solid. For those interested, I added a couple pics of my arm issue inside the spoiler tag below.
