I'll go see it too. The only film from the reboot series that I've been disappointed in thus far is Into Darkness.

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
technoblue replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Interesting. I thought there were some high points in the first and third films from JJ's Action Trek series, and I don't mind giving the alt universe another visit if this project wraps up and makes it to the cinema. The second one, though, I wish I could forget that experience. With luck, this won't track in that scandalous direction.- 466 replies

I know it isn't directly related to Star Wars, but I thought Jang summarized most of it well over on his JANGBRiCKS channel. To give some background, his channel is focused toward adult LEGO collectors and those interested in seeing his own creations, speed builds, and so on. Now the FTC/COPPA changes have a potential to dismantle the adult YouTube community in the LEGO space, since the broad government definition classifies most LEGO videos as for kids. I'm not a lawyer and I don't pretend to be one on-line, but Jang is taking a serious stance. I don't blame him. Jang's FTC & COPPA Video Sorry about the LEGO FTC tangent. Now back to Episode IX discussion.

Archienov- Your VF-0D is spot on to me. Ssimply amazing. From what I remember, the quality of work is right up there with the custom weathered 0D that @wm cheng completed all those years ago when the 0D was first released. Bravo to you and your local commission contact. It's a very smart look and unique. Not having to pay Arcadia's PF tax is a sweet bonus too. Ah, I found the link! Here's the result of wm cheng's 0D weathering project in case people need a refresh or just want to compare the two projects out of curiosity.

Mm. That's not the Ray we know, but there's something about those eyes that ring familiar.

Of the two in this comparison, I'm thinking that I prefer the scale of XTB's version. It's also nice to see that they're releasing Toy and G2 versions for those fans who want something more to set apart the Stunticons in their own collections. I'm actually tempted to go G2 for this set, since I have G2 Beachcomber and Seaspray from XTB already, but those Toy versions are so very tempting. The printing looks spot on to the old G1 stickers. Cool stuff. I need to give it some more thought, I guess.- 9129 replies

This was my plan, as well, although I already have Hiky's 1S on order so...I'm doomed. Anyway, I have 3 missile sets from the first run and needed to grab an extra set to make it an even four. Now to wait anxiously, hoping that Bandai can keep their focus just a smidge longer and get the other two TV guys out before going full DYRL (as teased).

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So I started in on Psycho-Pass 3 last night. It's sad to see Akane out of uniform, but I'm very interested to see what part (if any) she will play in this season. The two Public Safety Bureau replacements are interesting and seem like decent main characters after the first episode. My first impression of the show on a whole is that it feels closer in spirit to season 1 than season 2 (which wandered off the rails at the end). Crossing my fingers that this impression holds. Will be watching episode 2 later this evening, as I'm trying to meter my pace to one episode a day. -
All right. I just clicked through Lego's preview of the '89 Batmobile. I take back everything I said before. This build looks incredible (and fun).

Stranger still, it was working a-ok this morning. I would just wait a bit and try again.

Yeah, I guess it would be fair to say KC's figs are all over the place. I ran a quick search to see how the numbers shake out, but I don't know if the "in universe" heights are accurate. Anyway, here we go: Minmay: 15cm fig height on KC's site (I still need to measure my copy), 158cm in universe height, ~1:10.5 Hikaru: 15cm fig height on KC's site (my copy measures 16cm). 175cm in universe, 1:11 at 16cm which is a touch tall Misa: 15cm fig height on KC's site, 168cm in universe, or ~1:11.25 using KC's estimates Roy: 19cm fig height on KC's site, 195cm in universe, or ~1:10.25 using KC's estimates It could be that some modification will be required (like what @tekering did with Hiky's legs) to get them all in scale with each other. With luck, it will be an easy height modification like Hikaru. I'm not sure how easy it will be to add height if something comes out too small.

Mm. That is a fair deal. Looks like Walmart sold out, though. Amazon is carrying the deal now: https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-6253557-Ideas-Voltron-21311/dp/B07C39J17S It's also worth noting that this LEGO Ideas kit is retiring soon. So get in on the deal if you are interested in this at all.

Wow. Thanks for the link @sh9000. That new arc-like backdrop pops. I've been see-sawing back and forth on their SF03 display. I guess I should surrender and get both: one set for Macross and the other for Transformers...or one for an Autobots display and another to show off some Decepticons?- 9129 replies

Mm. You may be right about this being done up similar to the most recent Batpod giveaway. I missed out on that because my VIP account was all knackered for about a week during the July updates. The upside (apart from visiting Bricklink for parts) is that the VIP site has been running smooth lately. As long as it doesn't crash hard when a mob of Batfans hit the VIP page to grab the limited edition Keatonmobile things should be okay. And if things do go awry, no big deal. The Batmobile Pursuit of the Joker set is a great recommendation. I have it along with the low rider Joker mobile. They're somewhat stylized, but very cool all the same.
-
Cool. I do like the look of the smaller limited edition set. It also should be easier to display here at home. With luck, there won't be too many hoops to jump through to pick it up.

Totally agree. I was in the middle of writing something similar, but got busy winding up the end of my workday. IMO, The Terminator is a slasher style horror but under the guise of sci-fi with characters from the "future" driving the plot. Alien is similar, but less slasher and more suspense style horror. Rather than a house in some back woods locale with a single evil picking off a cast of characters, for example, Alien is set in a far away sci-fi environment and that helps to create its haunting atmosphere. Terminator 2 and Aliens have completely different tones, which is by design I think. I don't know if it's good or bad. I mean, I like all four movies, but it is obvious upon reflection. Comparing Terminator: Dark Fate to its predecessors, it does have more in common with T2. The frustrating thing is that there are moments where it could have easily brought back the intense fear factor of the original, but it chose to pull punches instead. That said, I still had fun seeing it on the big screen.

Yeah, I just want to add my voice to the chorus of those here who were happy to see Terminator: Dark Fate over the weekend. It was quite a ride, and a long time coming, IMO. Definitely a solid B+. For me, this and The Sarah Connor Chronicles are tied as worthy sequels to T2.

Not to mention the extra overhead on air traffic control. Better get those AI-infused ATC towers online to support this stat (or not).

Do you mean Cang Toys, M'Kyuun? They were teasing parts of their Thunderking (Predaking) gestalt, and so far that includes Landbull (Tantrum), Revoltgar (Rampage), and a crabby thing which actually turns into Thunderking's hands in combined mode. They do look very cool indeed, and I am also keen on stylish/modern iterations of these characters. With combiners like Gravity Builder and, more recently, Assaultus I've been relaxing my no combiners rule. It was almost a necessity simply to get more Decepticons at or near MP scale. These stylish not-Predacons are looking solid. I'm hoping that reviews hold up and that things like the price and size are not far out there. Yeah, I was hoping to see more about MMC's Autobot tapes myself. I'm hoping for a positive outcome, though, in that we might see a pre-order in the next couple of months or at the beginning of the new year? They looked pretty far along the last time they showed them.- 9129 replies

He certainly is a big boy. I'm guessing those who are in will be getting multiple boxes to put him together. Me, I'm happy with my copy of Mastermade Odin, who uses a reduced scale that's much easier to manage here at home. It would have been cool if MM had an SD Devastator update, but I'm in no rush. I'm waiting for FansToys to really wow me again like they did back in the day of Quakewave and the Dibots. Rouge's release really cooled my jets on them. I haven't picked up any of their news releases since Rouge, Kup, and Apache, and have been switching out most of these later ones for alternatives from other 3P manufacturers or official releases as they come available. On top of that, with the WFC releases, my interest has been shifting back to smaller scales like MMC Reformatted line and Planet X stuff. I ended up pre-ordering Ultio Senator and Bedrock (MMC's exclusive Ratbat and Bulkhead) when they went live. I'm looking forward to reading more about Mnemo (IDW Chromedome). Back at MP scale, I'm interested in FansHobby's Athena, MMC's take on Star Convoy, MMC's new Arcee repaint, which is a callback to the orange G1 Arcee prototype. It's an Arcee that, to me, falls into the so bad its good category of one-offs.- 9129 replies

Same here, and it looks like the control module may be updated like the SoC GX-86 Yamato. It will be cool if it has the same motorized turret gimmick.

Gah! I should have held on to my SoC GX-67 Arcadia. Bandai is now teasing the Deathshadow Arcadia in its sharp-nosed blue style.

Okay, Bandai. You're making it hard for me to hold onto my Yamato DYRL squad.

Yeah, but I wouldn't put it passed Bandai to change it up and turn that placeholder Roy 1S into a TV Roy (with the correct pilot fig).
