  1. All cool here. And to be fair, the first season is stacked in favor of the "big" villain. As Thom alludes to above, it's something of a punch to the gut with the teaser at the end. This is a show which relies on its unreliable narrators. Not everyone appreciates a story that is built in that way, but I found myself having a grand time. The heroes are fallible, and don't learn everything right away. When they do learn enough, they still make mistakes and they are up against something that is much more powerful than they can even comprehend this season. The one person who had an inkling (their father) is only seen in flashbacks. His friends, well...spoilers... I'm very much hoping this and October Faction do well enough to get additional seasons. Also, I don't know much about the graphic novel either, but I'm guessing...
  2. It’s inaccurate. I’m not sure how easnoddy missed the important character differences between Sam and Dodge, unless this type of bizarre fantasy is not in his wheelhouse, but there’s a huge difference between the two—it’s even spelled out for the audience at the end.
  3. Enjoy the show. HaHa! I did undersell it a bit compared to @Tking22. He is right though, it is fantastic!
  4. Mm. That's the best choice for army building. Of course, if someone is also into painting their own miniatures and gets enjoyment out of it, nothing can really compete. I'm curious to see if the Space Marine really is a one-off thing or if GW will entertain any poseable figures at this scale from the other 40k factions. Having something from the Xenos or Chaos ranks would be cool, but who knows if we'll get anything?
  5. I think so. The magic key concept in the story has some fun, spooky, even bizarre tones. I'm six episodes in and started watching it Saturday.
  6. While waiting for the new season of Altered Carbon to begin, Netflix has me hooked on more graphic novels turned live action. I finished October Faction season 1 earlier this month, and now I'm working my way through Locke & Key. Posting the trailers below for those who want to have a taste and aren't already hooked like me.
  7. Yeah. It was also a staggered pre-order for each region, meaning that some countries had access to the GW pre-order link earlier than others. For instance, the UK site posted its pre-order link about a week before the US site. I ended up placing my pre-order for 2 through the US site at $100 each plus shipping--a good price all things considered. Outside of GW, the Space Marine was available on the usual Japanese Hobby sites and on sites like BBTS, but the price varies depending on the store. I think Japanese shops listed it ~11000JPY which is comparable to the GW pre-order price. BBTS has a scalper's markup at $216US.
  8. IIRC, it's due to release in March, so not long now baring any unforeseen delay.
  9. Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko was also very good. I still have to watch Shinkai's three latest releases, including Kimi no Na wa. I'll have to cue it up this week and start getting caught up. The last Shinkai anime I remember seeing was Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo. The story starts off as a fun adventure but morphs into something touching and emotional by the final act. Well done from what I recall.
  10. Not gonna lie. I would be okay with this too. Full tampo printing on the standard releases would also be nice competition for Bandai. Adding more effects and "pop" to the premium releases, whatever that may be, would be pretty neat. Hey, maybe that way Arcadia might try to do tinted canopies again?
  11. Mm. One of my favorites and it was my introduction to director Mikoto Shinkai many moons ago. Also, it was one of the first shows (of any genre) that I saw back in the day to make texting integral to the plot.
  12. Beast Wars is not my thing either. For G1 Masterpiece, though, this will be a first. Although I may have raised an eyebrow to Takara's price increases and quality control in the past, I would usually cave in and buy most of them. My only real disappointment until recently was Ultra Magnus (MP-22) and that had me skipping Delta Magnus by default. I wish I was a little more critical when the likes of Prime v3 and Bee v2 were announced, because those two were hard and costly teaching lessons. Hound's quality issues are a travesty and I still haven't transformed mine out of fear of breaking it. That's no way to enjoy a Transformer. I can only hope that I'm one of the lucky few or that someone like IT comes forward to do it right for Takara or maybe that Takara gets it right in a Hound reissue. For Arcee, the only way I'll buy in this time is if TT ends up creating some real magic with her. I'm not seeing it now, so the ball's in their court.

    Macross figures

I’m glad someone brought it up, though. I didn’t know how to myself. After looking at the pictures of the product in question and seeing SD style Nendo-ish Macross characters, I shrugged and thought they just weren’t to the OP’s taste. Also, there are whole sites dedicated to showing examples of ESOL marketing fails. This one would probably rank as a doozy. Not denying creepy figs exist but to each their own and all that.
  14. Takara is all about backpacks now, but for me what’s more agregious than that is the price. There’s too much about this MP-51 proto that harkens back to MP-28 and Takara wants 2x the MSRP. I’m happy enough with MMC’s Azalea so I might stick to the sidelines this time around.
  15. + three thousand
  16. I don't have a true 4K (3840x2160) display at home, although I do have an ultrawide monitor with native 3440x1440 resolution. My settings are game dependent. For instance, FPS titles benefit the most from smooth frames and, if I need to, I'll dial in the graphics settings to make sure everything runs smoothly. Other titles, like Turn Based and Real Time Strategy titles, RPGs, and even certain Simulation titles aren't as twitchy. For these games I like to crank the graphics settings up as high as I can. 1080p is what I use for my living room HTPC, since I have an old Plasma TV hooked up to that system. I run games on that PC using mostly high settings. All that said, my two PCs (not including the 1440p monitor) are also getting long in the tooth. I've had them running for a good 7 years and today's software is finally starting to push the silicon. My turn-around time for system upgrades is normally 3 years, so I guess I'm overdue.
  17. Actually, if a remote desktop solution like VNC or similar is out of the question (due to the work laptop configuration and/or company IT policies) then a KVM switch would be the next best solution. My worry is that plugging and unplugging HDMI cables would add extra wear and tear but that is my own personal paranoia to be honest.
  18. Do you need a hardware solution to access your portable system? What OS are you running? Have you looked into a software KVM switch or something like VNC for Windows? Either should give you access to the laptop on your dual desktop monitors, and since you are on your own local network latency should be minimal if it is visible at all.
  19. Well, all things considered, 2019 was a quiet year from both Bandai and Arcadia--not too many releases compared to 2018 and 2017. Here's hoping to more Macross in 2020. An Arcadia made TV SDF-1 would be a cool surprise for sure, but I will also take that VT-1 that was teased by Mr. K. Apart from that, finally getting the VF-0A brownie would be fun.
  20. For me, Gasaraki was a product of its time, and what it did differently from other mecha shows in the late 1990s helped it to stand out. On subsequent viewings, though, the metaphysical/religious tones don't hold up as well to make it a timeless story. Oh well, there are a handful of episodes that I still like to revisit from time to time. In any case, it's very cool to see Bandai giving this show the RD treatment. On a side note, I think the RD brand is better served for mecha deep dives like this than HMR, myself. Let HMR be exclusive to Macross. Alas, that ship has sailed.
  21. For my part, I didn't mind Chibnall or the stories that he and his team of writers made up for season 11. It was a bit of a left turn from Davies and Moffat for sure, especially given that the historical set pieces (Rosa and Demons) were my stand out favorites apart from Jodie's introduction and the return of the TARDIS. If I had to rate any of the episodes critically, my duds would include "Arachnids in the UK", "The Witchfinders", and "Kerblam!" although these definitely weren't showstoppers. "It Takes You Away" was probably the most creative episode, IMO--trippy and visual. My only comment is that I wish there had been more time to explain the in-between realm and the alien that created the complete living universe on the other side. The whole story ended with me having a lot of questions, but maybe that was the point? Anyway, I haven't started watching season 12 yet, so I can't compare it to Jodie's first season. I'll need to rectify that soon.
  22. I received part 2 from rightstuf today, so I will finally be able to watch the whole second series from start to finish myself. Looking forward to putting some time in over the long weekend. I don't have too many expectations as I've been avoiding the spoilers here and 'round the net. Basically, I'm going into 2202 like I did 2199: 1) to enjoy the new take 2) to see what parts of the OG story are still intact 3) to see what's changed. For my first pass, for instance, I usually try to catch if any of the animation was improved going from the VOD release to the physical on-disc release.
  23. Caught this LEGO news over on another forum, but wow. Not sure what to make of it right now. https://brickset.com/article/47293/the-lego-group-acquires-bricklink
  24. Mm. That would have been a good twist for the rebooted Wrath of Kahn tale. In the JJ-Verse, at least given how things are setup for Into Darkness, Kirk has more of an emotional connection to Pike than Spock does to Kirk (or vice versa). A missed opportunity indeed.
  25. The MTV animated series was a decent adaptation of the comic, although it only covered the first 10 volumes (or something thereabouts). I got into the original Image Comics releases working part time as an undergrad one summer. A mate introduced me to them. Loved how The Maxx explored its themes of identity. Anyway, I think it will be sweet to see Sam Kieth's art and ideas come to life in a live action medium. I'm really curious to see how well it will all translate with real actors and (I hope) some good practical effects. For instance, seeing the outback and Mr. Gone will be worth the price of admission, especially if they come up with a cool way to juxtapose all that stuff to the real world.
