I'm good with the mechanical hands, but for purists I think it's safe to assume a pair of rounded TV hands will be included as option parts like Bandai did for the Hikaru 1J and Max 1A releases. https://i0.wp.com/anymoon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Bandai-DX-VF-1J-Hikaru-10.jpg https://i2.wp.com/anymoon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Bandai-DX-VF-1A-Max-TV-3.jpg

True, although I think if we were to get Bandai'd with different TV and DYRL whites like in the Yamato days we would have seen it with Hikaru's 1S and Kaki's 1A so the base color seems consistent at least.
-
The aesthetic differences between Roy's TV and DYRL 1S are minor if you can look past them. The real change comes with the included pilot. The TV version uses a different color and a different molding when compared to the TV version. Check out RedComet's modified Hikaru with Roy markings above and compare that to the prototype images of Bandai's TV Roy.

Fast packs are not a requirement for me at this scale. I have my fill of those in my Yamarcadia collection. My goal is to complete the TV squadron, and Roy brings us one step closer to that which is pretty sweet. Looking forward to more news as it comes.

TV Roy? Now that's more like it. Thanks for posting the news @Knuckles7173!

Uniforms in Crest of the Stars / Seikai no Monshou
technoblue replied to roboemo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
After scanning through Crest of the Stars tonight, I can confirm that we get a better view of the spaceships than the rank and file. However, there are some characters that stand out, and the animeperson.com site includes some screen caps. Lieutenant Kyte (United Mankind, Military Police): http://animeperson.com/character/kaito_15/ Lieutenant Commander Alanga (United Mankind, Platoon Commander): http://animeperson.com/character/alanga/ Marca: http://animeperson.com/character/marca/ and her insurgent team seeking trade independence: (the guys have interesting uniforms for a group of space traders) Daswani: http://animeperson.com/character/daswani/ Bill: http://animeperson.com/character/bill/ That's about it. -

Hm, I'm not seeing any evidence of this theory in the story. I mean. it's fine if that's your take but to me it seems to lack subtlety. I would criticize the Abh for a number of other negative characteristics before going down this road. For instance, the relative ease with which they have in burning the atmosphere of a rebellious world and destroying entire lander populations from orbit. Also, the harsh way they come in and capture valuable FTL resources and then zip away again, leaving whole planets and systems abandoned to fend for themselves. The story actually goes out of its way to state that the Abh are not concerned with planets or world governments. On the list of priorities these things rank lowest in the Empire. The problem is that their aggressive claim to all FTL lanes is hurting countless worlds. The story could give more of a retrospective on the Alliance to show us if indeed they are truly the answer to everyone's problem. Similar stories like LotGH do take the time to do just that when analyzing a similar power struggle, but I don't think this anime was trying to get that detailed. Anyway, yes the Abh are genetically altered because they were originally a nomadic faction of humans that improved themselves for deep space exploration. In the context of the story, this was long before the core of humanity outlawed the technology. There are some important subtleties that are revealed later on: 1) The Abh stopped genetic alterations on themselves after a time because they didn't want to evolve synthetically past being able to identify themselves as human. 2) Only those born as Abh are genetically different. Humans that are given the title Abh when planets are "conquered" are not forced or even asked to alter their DNA. These noblepersons are only mandated to serve time in the military. The story does reveal that the Abh Empire has genetic Abh born members, genetic Human born members and even mixed Abh/human born members. See the Febdash side story and the multiple interactions between Lafiel, Jinto and the others assigned to the Basrogrh. I think it is safe to say, given the perspective of Lafiel and Jinto as the protagonists that the Abh are perhaps portrayed a little too clean. I do not think this is a fault of the story. It's just a limitation of seeing things from the eyes of these characters. When the story shifts at times to give the audience insight to another character's perspective, like Lexshue in the Battle of Goslauth, we find that there are those, even Abh, who are hoping for real change. -

No worries. I get where you're coming from. Yeah, I can see how that would be a bonus to go all in on one brand, and have all mouse and keyboard functions available using a single app. The tidy sys tray is icing on the cake, especially if the app is memory efficient while running in the background doing its thing. -

Oh, don't get me wrong I'm not hating on Razer. I have a lot of respect for them as a company because they are one of the few manufacturers who were designing high-end ambidextrous mice in the early 2000s. This was before Steelseries or any of the other boutique manufacturers had come onto the scene. In contrast, the ambidextrous mice from the likes of Logitech back then were budget oriented designs. And left-handed mice were unheard of! When Razer announced its left-hand edition DeathAdder in 2010 (wow, time flies) it was a welcome surprise. Before that, my favorite Razer mouse was the Diamondback. I recall a number of fans starting to hate on Razer when Robert Krakoff stepped down. Seems pointless, but that's the internet for you. For my part, the software thing is just a suggestion without any bias behind it. Granted, it's based on my experience with funky driver installs back in the days of Windows 98 and XP so that's the context. On the other hand, I don't see a particular reason for not having a mixed Logitech/Razer setup if that's what you're going for. They should be friendly coexisting, unless you've read something that I'm not aware of. Modern operating systems are much better about the driver-side details. -

I don't know. At least the Abh didn't have reeducation camps like the United Mankind. But yeah, the story is told using Lafiel and Jinto's perspective, so the narrative bias is clear from the start. We end up seeing things as our two protagonists see things, and both of them are coming from privilege: Jinto, being ushered into things haphazardly after his father surrenders their planet (dad's downfall) and Lafiel, being a royal Abh heiress in line to the throne. As for UM character references, wasn't Lt. Kyte an MP of the United Mankind? Was he undercover or in uniform? I'll have to watch the episodes again to refresh the noggin. -

Nice analysis, @mikeszekely! I've read about those GL switches too, and I think I agree with the camp that's saying they're Kalih low profile choc switches (or some custom iteration built for Logitech). In any case, the G815 and G915 both look slick on this side of the screen. Does your Razer mouse have special buttons or features that requires their software? If not, you might get by with just the standard windows driver. I try to avoid Razer drivers, myself, even though I have an old left-handed Deathadder that I keep on life support. I bought the Logitech G900 to replace it (eventually), it has an ambidextrous design. I find that Logitech's drivers are less obnoxious, but their prices...well... -
Thanks, guys. I thought that option was greyed out for me when I checked on this last order. I'll have to look more carefully when my next order arrives.

Here's something of a sobering experience from my side. My last shipping estimate using DHL Express was with FromJapan. The package was hefty at 6.3kg (about 14lbs) and FJ doubleboxed it (as they do) so the actual shipping box was 24x16x13 inches. FJ is only offering FedEx and DHL as shipping options to US locations at the moment, The charge 2 shipping came to 13,500JPY for DHL and FedEx was slightly less expensive at 13,000JPY. I think weight and size both factor into cost, especially once a package tips the scale at a particular number. I bought a couple acrylic storage bins in this case. If my local shop still had them in stock, I would have spent about $20 for UPS ground to ship them from NY city to my location which is considerable for ground shipping. Still, the prices make me curious (or maybe somewhat trepidatious) to see how much something like Arcadia's VF-0D will cost to ship using FJ at the end of the month.

Tempted to buy two. With regard to the armour, I'm sticking with my parts forming theory. It makes the most sense given the information that we have. For instance, notice how the upper bicep armour sleeves over Dana's arm. I'm thinking that her torso armor attaches in a similar way--by somehow fitting over the actual figure. It may be one piece that clips on from the front or it may be two pieces which snap together front and back. In any case, the armour has a smooth ab/belly piece that covers over the "flightsuit" detail. That's how I see it, anyway. The painted shots could be photoshopped or not. Won't really be able to confirm unless someone asks or we get it in hand. I'm not really fussed to do anything but wait, although I will say to my eyes the marketing photos KC posted for Rick and Minmay were spot on to the actual release. That gives me hope that these color photos of Dana are accurate too.- 2036 replies

Looking at @sh9000's proto pics, I think the torso armour will easily fits over main figure. We already know Dana will have multiple hands since it is stated in the description, so that leaves the case of those elbow and knee joints. I'm thinking KC will have black joints to swap with white so that you can choose the best joints to use for Jeanne/Dana's outfit. That, or it's just a clever photo shop job (no, not really ).- 2036 replies

So to close on my own post, Figma Darkness arrived today! Wasn't expecting to see this EMS delivery so soon, given that other members here had March orders that didn't go out until later in May. All told, my shipment was delayed 5 weeks. I'll take it. Granted, I'm curious to know whether or not the international shipping situation is improving at all. I don't have much to add to the DHL discussion, other than I have been seeing an understandable delay of about 2 days on my DHL Express packages. The lower cost DHL services have longer delays, and some countries (like Germany) have stopped shipping DHL economy packet shipments to the US. https://www.dhl.de/coronavirus-en#usa Alas, this is slowing down Bricklink orders but I can deal.
-
I'm going to order the instructions today and then will start slowly collecting the parts on Bricklink since it appears to have some pricey pieces. I am so far behind when it comes to modern LEGO design, and I enjoy picking up new sets and interesting MOCs to learn how designers get the bricks to work this way and that. Also, I already have Sentinel's figure and I think having this MOC to place side by side in a comparison would be a fun review. Speaking of new sets, did anyone else pre-order the Technic Lambo? I did. I missed out on the LEGO Destiny's Bounty set (which is considerably cheaper) but is now out of stock. The Lambo is already on backorder and I enjoy both the Creator Expert and Technic super cars, so I jumped in. LEGO had me with the red calipers. I can already see Bugs Bunny shaking his head at me and saying, What a maroon!

I had a feeling Alto's YF-29 would sell like bananas again. It's amazing how much pull that design has today, even with only a few minor tweaks. That said, I'm in the minority of those who are not drawn to it so I sat this one out. Sleep was more valuable to me and LEGO is capturing my attention more and more.

Woops! That was awkward. It looks like I copied the wrong link in my message above. But the microscale one is no less impressive to me. My understanding is that it was an earlier iteration? Not sure. Here's the minifig scale one for comparison. I also added the link to my original post above to give my comments more context. I was wowed by how the minifig version had the same landing gear and foldable wing gimmick as Sentinel's 1:48 Swordfish II which Goodsmile released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAbB9gwENUA Thanks for the link to the Red Tail MOC. @M'Kyuun It look very nice, and I was wondering if someone had tried their hand at Faye's ship after seeing the Swordfish II review. Now I know. It would be fun to have both ships on display.

Sharing Brickvault's review of the Swordfish II MOC by Marshal Banana—one of my favorite fictional spacecraft in minifig scale. Actual minifig review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAbB9gwENUA Oopsie microscale review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYVRhSTWpEo Looks to be using some fun techniques too, and the completed set accomplishes gimmicks that are similar to what's found on Sentinel's 1:48 scale release. Work like this and the MOCs shared by are own @M'Kyuun are just so artistic. I'm amazed when other LEGO fans can create organic designs out of these bricks.

Goodsmile sent my copy of Figma Darkness 22 April and it has been stuck at Tokyo International since 23 April, as luck would have it. To add to what @Anasazi37 noted above, I do think that if a package is returned that the record will appear in the tracking data. At least, that's how I've seen it happen with other shipments. At least, that's my limited experience with this sort of thing. I had to manage one item that was returned to sender after I missed the USPS reminder slip...
