It isn’t a dark blue/pure white contrast like what we got with the original release. I’ve been looking at mine side by side since I have both and it’s like looking at two completely different 0D liveries. The review that @kkx posted has a good comparison.

^This. No Macross HMR releases have been reissued...yet. Added to which, Bandai’s HMR releases seem focused on other classic anime properties now that the yellow striped VF-4G is out. With luck things will swing back to Macross again. Anyway, according to the Tamashii site, only the Dougram was reissued. The first release was in May 2017 and the second was in Feb 2018.

Oof. I can totally understand given my own situation. My search to pick up G1 accessories for ER seekers put me on a similar path. Now I'm watching G1 auctions for complete vintage seekers to go with the one G1 Starscream that survived all this time from childhood. Sadly, those G1 toys get expensive right quick if they are in decent condition. Even the Takara reissues are fetching some high prices that would command my hobby budget for the month if I decided to cave. With Bandai releasing Roy's VF-1, I don't really want to kill my budget so I think I'll wave off for now and see how things look in August.- 16670 replies

Yeah, I'm surprised by that too. HasTak has shown a willingness to borrow good third-party methods and add them to their own designs in the past and I have to wonder why it didn't happen with this figure? At the very least, I would have thought the partsforming piece could have its own independent transformation that allows it to look like a more believable accessory and not like a piece that Arcee ripped off herself and decided to go all Captain Morgan on.- 16670 replies

Uniforms in Crest of the Stars / Seikai no Monshou
technoblue replied to roboemo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Sure! I'll make a note to review that scene. For now, though. I only have the Crest anthology on order. I picked it up to get the improved translation. The Banner set was out of stock when I checked. I'm not sure when it will be in again, but I do intend to pick up a copy when it shows up. -

Out of curiosity, I picked up Earthrise Starscream. I wasn't going to, but then I decided it was worth trying out the mold for myself at least once. I have read a lot about the old classics mold, but never had the chance to hold it in hand. So yeah, like most Transformer aircraft Screamer carries a lot of his bot torso beneath him in fighter mode but I'm looking at this and G1 Screamer and I can't help shaking that this is the closest the mainline has come to the G1 toy in quite some time. Sadly, no landing gear, but I feel it's still a worthy update. Yeah, I'm really impressed. I think I'm going to try and pick up some spare G1 missile parts for fighter mode to arm up Earthrise Screamer with. It's a missed opportunity, I think, that these weren't included given Hastak's proclivity to pack in extra accessories with other WFC toys. LoL! The only bad news is that I now need to search around for ER Thundercracker and Skywarp. No big deal. I'm not going to rush it. Sticking with Earthrise topics, I decided to take a closer look at Arcee given the current partsforming discussion. Here's a nice pic from Reddit comparing T30 to ER Arcee: https://www.reddit.com/r/transformers/comments/f6xmgi/lg_generations_arcee_x_earthrise_arcee/ Yeah, I still prefer ER Arcee to Legends/T30 Arcee myself. Maybe it is because my eyes are getting older and more nearsighted but she does appear proportionally improved over the the older Generations release, and the face has a touch more detail too. In the same reddit thread, someone noted that Arcee's partsforming is optional. That would be a fun switcheroo: making her backpack work differently from the one on the Cliffjumper/Hubcap mold. I guess that's something that remains to be seen as it could just be a rumor too. I do agree that both versions make compromises to her character design, although I find myself not as fussed by the ER compromises. One thing I am nervous about with ER Arcee is that paint job. The render looks nice, yeah, but the magazine images do not inspire the same confidence. I hope that HasTak didn't cheap out on the paint apps, giving ER Arcee a bland look in hand. It's obvious when comparing ER to Cyberverse Arcee in the magazine shots. It almost looks like ER Arcee needs her own accent color to better highlight her G1 features.- 16670 replies

*Runs to TFWiki* Oh yes. That would be a cool group to revisit with today's WFC designs or whatever comes after. More Decepticons, more transforming jets...all very good things. And Skyquake had the benefit of re-appearing on TF Prime to boot.- 16670 replies

Got back from the doctor and pre-ordered Centurion and Rotorstorm. Is Rotorstorm G1 or G2? In any case, the funky colors won me over. I did skip Tigertracks for now. May mull him over again later. Pre-ordered Alternate Prime on Amazon because of that the head sculpt. The trailer seems a little too much, but it's all right. Amazon is showing a July 15 release date for me. Ooo! I may pick up Blaster if I see him at my local Walmart. That's one toy I never had as a kid.- 16670 replies

That looks like fun pack. But I'll be at the doctor's office when the pre-order goes up, so I'll have to cross my fingers and hope it sticks around a bit.- 16670 replies

Well, that was my interpretation anyway, and I do clearly recall a big criticism of the second half of Delta when it was airing. Not so much with Frontier. Most here were pumped right up to the end of Frontier's TV series. There was similar positivity for Delta in the first half and then the long gap (which might have hurt), the second half hit, and that positivity fell off a cliff. There were some who weren't into Frontier either, of course, but I thought Frontier did get a better overall forum reception. It may be because there had been a dearth of Macross anime before it. That was one of the risky plot drivers. I liked it too, and I also wish more time had been spent developing that aspect more completely instead of turning it into a villain of the week scenario. I think Macross, as a vehicle for telling stories, is really flexible. I enjoy seeing the creators move away from the familiar tropes when they do. That said, I also understand why some fans are more accepting if a story sticks to those tropes. I mean, SDF TV, Frontier, and even Delta all follow the hero's journey with Hikaru, Alto, and Hayate being similar character archetypes. That wasn't lost on anyone. Mm. It would be cool to see the creators go for a serious take on Macross again but I really like everything I've seen to date, even the TV series and OVAs that regularly get panned here (M7 and now Delta). I don't know. I guess it's just a mix of ideas that speak to me at the end of the day.- 16670 replies

I think the thing that sold Delta short was that the story wasn't groundbreaking. Everyone was hoping for another home run like Frontier or a return to something a little more serious like Plus and instead we got an anime which had good moments in the first cour, was mediocre and suffered for a loss of direction in the second cour, and then tried to tie up too many loose ends with the flashy final battle sequence. Personally, it reminded me a lot of AKB0048 with Macross aesthetics and, since I liked AKB0048, Delta was a-ok.- 16670 replies

Disney+ TV Series, movies, animation,specials
technoblue replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think Netflix and Disney+ both have their place. It's just that Disney+ is playing catch up, which is understandable. The one company that has me taking a double take with its SVD services is WarnerMedia under AT&T. I already parted ways with my RoosterTeeth First subscription. I'm toying with the idea of giving up on Crunchyroll too, which is a bit depressing. That service introduced me to a lot of good anime over the years, but CR's parent company doesn't seem to be interested in improving the platform with things like HBO Max taking center stage now. -
Uniforms in Crest of the Stars / Seikai no Monshou
technoblue replied to roboemo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I picked up this print edition, which is a collection of the Seikai no Monshō light novels. https://www.amazon.com/Crest-Stars-Volumes-Collectors-light/dp/1718350708 Not sure how it compares to the ebook translation, but JNC is the publisher and I've read that a similar collection is due for Seikai no Senki. Might be out as soon as 2021? That would be cool. Mm. The anime only touches upon points of the written story, although it was nice to see the Battle of Goslauth play out on screen. -
You put fantasy into my Hard SF. No, you put Hard SF into my fantasy. Hold on, wasn't this a thing long ago and didn't boomers have a name for it? I think you're right. They called it, Sci-Fi.

Both. Episode 33 of the TV series has a flashback scene with the VF-X1 Prototype.

This thread moved fast since I posted earlier. Sorry, @vladykins , work had me sidelined for a bit. As everyone else noted earlier, the Dougram is fantastic. You should be pleased when it arrives. I've been happy with mine, and I completed the small collection with both the H8 and H8RF Roundfacers. As with Macross HMRs, though, I wish Bandai had given us a few more mecha from the series. I guess beggars can't be choosers. Still, it would have been cool to see an AG-9 Cabarov, a T-10B Blockhead, or even the Soltic H-102 Bushman, So they did. I just don't want to let Bandai off the hook with what was released to complete that diorama. If there are more Destroids, enemy mecha, or even a complete TV/DRYL squad of Valkyries in the pipeline, then I would be ecstatic to see signs of life for this line again.

HaHa! *sigh* HMR: The return to Macross. It's sad that this is an actual thing, although I didn't mind the Dougram tangent. If only Bandai could focus and release what they originally teased.
