Arcadia 1/60 VF-4A ‘Flashback 2012’ Premium Finish & Regular Release
technoblue replied to no3Ljm's topic in Toys
I like how it looks, but if Mr. K does request any changes then I agree he could improve the look substantially by having the factory thin out the panel lining effect. I mean, the Tampo printing on this test sample looks nice and sharp so leaving it alone will create an odd contrast.- 1112 replies

I ended up getting into Fansproject late. Their toon coloured Brainstorm was the one I wasn't able to find. I did have the following FX figures, though, and enjoyed them very much: Code, Code Virus, Browning, Combs Robin, Quadruple U, and Sigma L. I sold them when I thought Maketoys was going to come through with their MP Headmasters.,,, Hindsight...I'll tell you what...- 9129 replies

Yeah, the colour matching could be better on that Ironhide sample. The feet also seem a touch too wide where they meet with the cover piece. Still, I've decided to pick up two sets. If a better set comes along with extra polish and improved joints, I'm in. True. I wasn't as impressed with the articulation on T30 Brainstorm, although his ship mode is miles better. I agree that TR Brainstorm would have benefited from not being a mould-mate with Blurr. There are some good fan examples of Brainstorm done up using TR Triggerhappy as a base. That may have been an interesting choice had Hasbro decided to go that route. Smart Robin is very cool but hard to find. I did have the alt version Combs Robin back in the day. Maketoys...their Brainstorm looks very cool. Dunno if they will get around to finishing their Headmasters, but if they do I'm in.- 9129 replies

Apologies for the double post. I remember we had a discussion up thread about the feet on ER Ironhide and Ratchet, and how it would be nice to replace the stock "Siege" style moccasins with something that let the alt mode look more like the classic G1 Vannettes. Well, there appears to be a solution. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-Earthrise-Ironhide-Ratchet-Feet-Upgrade-UPGRADE-ONLY/154155357246 I was thinking that it would be cool if we got similar third-party add-ons for the reissued Headmasters. For instance, if someone did a limited run nosecone/shield for Brainstorm that had removable twin cannons. That would be sweet.- 9129 replies

I like how Cybertronian alts afford artists and toy designers more license to be creative with their character interpretations. It's different than the well-established G1 Toy/Diaclone designs sure, but it's also one more thing that shows how much variety exists in the brand (as well as in the fandom). I mean, if it wasn't for Cybertronian alts, we wouldn't have Tetrajets... Well, I like them anyway. As for Motif. He is IDW Rewind and although he looks kind of like his G1 counterpart, he isn't written anything like him. The reason he's packaged with IDW Chromedome (Mnemo) is a bit of a character spoiler... My knowledge of these things doesn't compare to mike's, but TFWiki does note that Rewind's IDW alt mode is some sort of memory stick: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Rewind_(G1)/2005_IDW_continuity. Granted, I think MMC did give priority to Motif's bot mode in this release.- 9129 replies

I'm thinking of going with MMC's Protectobots too. Their Combaticons won me over. Solus Prime definitely looks to be a proper upgrade to Takara's mainline release to me. I also have Optus Pexus, Exitus, and Mnemo/Motif on pre-order. Can't wait to see those in person. The Maketoys Cross Dimension news is very, very cool. Shockwave looks good (a retool of CD Despotron?). I'm crossing my fingers hoping that this means the CD Galvatron and Rodimus that they teased way back are still on their schedule too. The RE:Master EX seekers come at a good time, especially if they get to reissuing EX versions of Lightning and Skycrow later on (so that fans can have access to reasonable prices again). I'm particularly keen on matching my G2 Screamer to the new Acid Swarm. Planet X going IDW? Yeah, I'm in. Then again, I'm already in with most of their stuff (nothing to see here )- 9129 replies

Oof. That’s terribly frustrating. I’ve been there too—sometimes it’s simply a bad joint; sometimes I accidentally move the joint beyond its range without thinking. Hm. I wonder if any of KC figures are compatible with Figma joint spares? Goodsmile is selling different colored sets at the moment, for preorder on their US site even. As long as the color matches and you can clear the broken pieces from the socket, it could be another option. Anyway, just throwing it out there. I still need to check joint compatibility myself. KC may also send spare joints if you write to customer support about your issue.

I enjoyed that one too, so much so that I ended up collecting the manga volumes. -
Oh! That LEGO Ideas Sesame Street set looks quite nice. I've only seen pictures of it in passing before now, but the final minifigs of the the Muppet characters that they're including look well done in those marketing shots. This is one of those sets that could have also benefited from the minifig dual face gimmick. To bad there's no easy way to implement that for Bert, Big Bird, and the rest, but those characters can be so emotive on TV thanks to the work of the puppeteers. Perhaps we will get additional character sets or more faces if LEGO decides to pick up the license? That would be fun. Also, sorry to read that you missed the Batwing @M'Kyuun. I'm passing on it myself, but I empathize with your frustration on how LEGO is handling their limited run pre-orders. I purchased the new LEGO AAT when it went up as part of the summer Star Wars wave. Of course it went to backorder almost immediately. It was part of a larger purchase with a combined total that gave me a GWP bonus. Anyway, a number of items in the order were delayed. The AAT was delayed for well over a month. By the time I got everything, the LEGO limited bonus gift was out of stock. I know, first world problems but it was still frustrating. There are days the new normal seriously stinks.

Fair enough. I should make it clear that I'm not offended by the critiques, and nerd banter certainly doesn't get under my skin. My statement isn't really about general rudeness either. It's more of a comment on my experiences across different forums and not specific to one place or one person. I guess I didn't communicate that point very well. I also admit that I could be totally reading things the wrong way. Anyway, thanks for taking the extra time to reach out. I appreciate it.- 16670 replies

In this context, I was using it to classify their top-tier releases but I think must-have fits just as well. Their Shockwave looks great. I have it pre-ordered already (yeah, I should wait) but I'm crossing my fingers too hoping that it's one of the more solid Planet X figures.- 9129 replies

I don't know what to tell you, danth. I see things differently. I've been accused of reading into things too deeply at other venues, but that's just the kind of person I am. My opinion of MP-52 (or any official MP for that matter) doesn't really factor into it. I'm getting tired of the constant bickering from both sides whenever someone tries to have a constructive discussion here in the official thread or share some cool news. We should all be able to have these discussions in spite of our different opinions. The fact that these discussions get sidelined for off-topic debates and rude, sometimes ruthless arguments speaks to tribalism to me. That's what I think, if you really wanted to know and aren't just trolling me. Otherwise, I really can't help you.- 16670 replies

I've had these two since they were released. I think they're pretty cool. Myself, when comparing Vejovis or Mars to releases like Pluto, Summanus, Quirinus, and so on...I don't notice much of a difference in plastic quality. Planet X releases have been fiddly from the beginning. My first copy of Pluto arrived broken in the box! Luckily, I was able to get a replacement with no issues. With the dinos, there were reports of pieces falling off and loose limbs, and apart from Vulcan those figures aren't what I would call weighty in hand. Anyway, based on my experience these two fit in with the Planet X standard fare. I do kind of wish Planet X would up their game and give us more hallmark releases like Jupiter, Apollo, Vulcan, and Mors (all the seeker repaints, really). Kadmos and Insemnios are so much improved to be in a class unto themselves, which shows how far they could take these if they wanted to. Anyway, I'm definitely a fan of the Cybertronian look from the games. I think it beats even the WFC Siege updates in the official mainline despite the limited articulation. They may not be for everyone, but they do fit in with what I'm looking for.- 9129 replies

My whole thing isn’t to argue the MSRP or the prices that are listed at US shops like Hasbro Pulse, Toy Dojo, BBTS, and the like. I simply wanted to point out that there are lower priced options and these options are easy to find. It isn’t limited to Japanese shops either. TFs-Express has a better price if you’re in the UK. Ignoring those options is like ignoring places like ShowZ for third party. Sure it’s factually correct but it misses an important data point which is that fans often search for the best deal. This circles back into the value discussion, though, which I think is entirely subjective. Fans who are happy with Maketoys’ seekers will see less value in this than those who are still looking for a good seeker to put in their MP shelf, or who just like Starscream. All opinions are valid IMO. Oh, that wasn’t directed at you mike. I think you’ve been clear and balanced with your thoughts and views. It’s just that I’m finding it more exhausting to navigate discussions of official MPs. Something I need to figure out I guess.- 16670 replies

To be fair to @Jeremy007 a number of sites with discounted prices were posted to this very thread a couple pages back. It isn't like he's referencing hard-to-find information. The only import site that I know of which is showing shipping fees right now is Amazon Japan, and those fees are still estimated below $63 US. For me, shipping is estimated at 3103JPY ($29.50 US at today's rate), but would probably be lower on release. I ordered through AmiAmi, though, and I expect their DHL price to be around 4000JPY which is still below $63. Anyway, this us versus them tribalism is getting tiring for me. It's also making the hobby less of a joy. People should buy what they like and refrain from dumping on other fans who like things that are a little different. I think it's great that so many MW members are passionate for the Maketoys' seekers. I hope you guys get news on the rest of the coneheads at TFcon. I also think it's great that we have MP-52. IMO, both can co-exist.- 16670 replies

Yeah. Going in and expecting SDF Macross TV or Macross Plus is going to disappoint. Basara butting in is the whole schtick of this series, and as others have noted earlier it takes a while for that actual story to begin. For me, I think it was episodes 17-23 where I finally started to see the Protodevlin as something more than two-dimensional bad guys, find out why they're so overpowered, and why Ray was pushing the idea of Sound Force with UN Spacy for this particular fleet. It does all get fleshed out, but if you don't care about it, then waiting for the show to kick into gear is probably too big of an ask. -

I am. And there are a few others lurking about here on MW. I like seeing the historical progression in my collection, so I'm not as bothered by changes in the aesthetic as other more vocal members are on site. One historical footnote which I find really cool and that was shared on twitter is the same designer who had a hand in the G1 Toy/Diaclone helped design MP-52. Over on TFW, the thought is that this could be Kojin Ono.- 16670 replies

I'm in the same boat. On pre-order night, Ohmyprimus reached out to me and let me know that they received a large number of orders for Roy and that the odds of a refund on my order were high. At least I'll get my money back. The store has a good turn-around time when they do get decent stock, so I guess that means I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best come November.

I don't know. Leaving out the Legends-sized figure, I can see the appeal to both Maketoys' and Takara's MP versions of G1 Starscream. Both designs had constraints that required creative solutions to get the mechanical transformation just so. Takara's take was to preserve the goofy (makes me young again) look of the G1 animation model—right down to that alt mode with triangles for thrusters. Alas, some of the mechanics become alt mode kibble but it's no big deal to me. I can go elsewhere if I want a clean fighter that transforms into a robot. In this case, Takara's take does what I want it to. Maketoys is no slouch either. Re:Master does a good job of leaning into the toon aesthetic without compromising on their unique style. I love having representative figures in my collection too, so I guess what I'm saying is my grievances with their G1 seekers are water under the bridge now. I decided to pick up MT's G2 Screamer. With him and MP-52, it'll be the best of both worlds.- 9129 replies

Mm. Animated has an excellent story. It's unfortunate that it often gets overlooked, and its a tragedy that Cartoon Network didn't give the showrunners a final season to complete Sari's full character arc. I'd love to see it get a decent Blu-ray release, like Transformers: Prime. If Hasbro is going to revisit multiple series with these anniversary reissues, then an anniversary reissue of animated characters is a must. Some of those designs are still hard to beat today, like Animated Arcee, Prowl, and Lugnut.- 16670 replies

Odd. I pre-ordered Prime Breakdown/Vehicon on Pulse, but I don't remember seeing the Kingdom pre-orders at all. I must have missed them at the time. No surprise, to be honest. I was laser focused on trying to secure that Prime anniversary reissue. It'll be really cool if this isn't a one-off thing and Hasbro is planning more Prime Anniversary releases in the coming year. I hear you on Beast Wars. The show was something that I got into after it aired on television. It's a solid story, although the toys are not really my thing either. The only one I own is MP Primal—and that's to fill out my Prime collection. Much respect to all the BW fans, though. This time must be really exciting for them, given all the dedicated releases. I'm looking forward to the '86 releases too. Between Kingdom and SS86, I hope to finally have the movie bots covered. I was thinking of going FansToys at one time, but after Rouge and then Sheridan, QC issues have me pausing on future FT purchases.- 16670 replies

Not sure if this was posted earlier, but the first wave of WFC Kingdom is up for pre-order. Not limited to a specific store? Anyway, I'm not collecting the majority of this wave, which includes the first Fossilizers along with BW Purple Megs, Black Arachnia, Primal, Cheetor, and Ratrap too. I did pick up Warpath and Cyclonus. Pre-orders for both are still available at amazon and dorksidetoys for those who like to shop there: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HGHQH34/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HGDNR79/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://dorksidetoys.com/collections/pulsecon-recap/products/transformers-generations-wfc-kingdom-deluxe-warpath-pre-order https://dorksidetoys.com/collections/pulsecon-recap/products/transformers-generations-wfc-kingdom-leader-cyclonus-pre-order Alas, Pulse is sold out of Cyclonus.- 16670 replies
