For Macross, we've gone from [Rebuild] [Reboot[ {Revival] to [Refuse] [Renounce] [Reject]. Here's hoping they get back on message.

Alas, @no3Ljm is right about Amazon Japan adding sales tax to US shipments. That's a global change which applies to all international Amazon sites. It isn't customs, but the US isn't being treated as tax free anymore.
-
Yeah. Stores should start shipping anywhere from November 28 to November 30. Come on, man. You know that isn't what @Ryoma meant. He's feeling lucky to have procured a pre-order at all. But if you want to be really pedantic, AE is still lower than N-Y's true scalper price of 35000JPY. Anyway, best of luck to those who are willing to wait on the hope that other stores (like AJ) will open up more order slots close to MSRP. I'm sure it will happen, but like pre-order night they will go in a blink and you'll miss it moment. That leaves places like Mandarake, Yahoo Japan, and Jungle. We don't have any idea what the aftermarket prices will be for Roy's DX. That will be an interesting thing to see in the month's ahead.
-
Double thanks, @Anasazi37. I learned this morning that ohmyprimus received short stock on Roy's DX and cancelled my order. Since this inflated price at AE is close to OMP's price before shipping, I put in an order. Of course, knowing how my luck has been working on this pre-order, I'm thinking this may have just increased the odds that Amazon Japan will open up new order slots at a lower price on or near the release date.

Yeah. I’m really into how MP-8/8X still has more of that premium look, even after all these years. MP-8, especially looks fantastic standing with the WFC figures. Curiously, it also beats SS’86 Grimlock on accessories and gimmicks. The new Grim on the block has improved articulation. It’s too bad a few of its other bits were toned down to fit the reduced price point. Maybe that’s an opportunity for some nifty third-party add-ons?- 16670 replies

Yeah, it's too bad Hastak didn't add silver paint to the tail and arms. Adding a joint to the little dino wrists would have been a nice bonus too. Missed opportunities...still, I have one on order. I can't say that I agree with PvP about these replacing Masterpiece scale toys (official or third-party). Maybe if I had less invested in those lines or was just starting out as a collector it would make more sense. Anyway, my FT 08X Grinder is staying put.- 16670 replies

I'm not gelling with this Galactic Odyssey set, but then again I also passed on the clones along with most of the original Titans Returns releases. I was more into Takara Legends back in the day. It's cool that these reissues are something of a TR/Legends hybrid but they're still not for me. On an unrelated note, I do hope we get more official TFP reissues, or that APC releases more of their improved TFP KOs. Those old designs are speaking to me again.- 16670 replies

On Thunderhowl: I originally thought he might be comparable to 2015 RiD's Steeljaw in some way; however, that isn't the case. Thunderhowl is just an ancillary character that shows up during a short Windblade arc near the end of the series before being relegated to the background. It's too bad because his design was fun and creative. Come to think of it, Cyberverse had a number of side-characters like that. I guess one could call that a thing?- 16670 replies

Well, you win some and you lose some. Maybe Bandai will revisit this some day. The prototype had potential.

Oh, that's a relief. The 1S GBP would have had me waiting up all hours, but these two I can easily pass on. Good luck to the rest of you on pre-order night!

The Mandalorian - Star Wars webseries from Jon Favreau
technoblue replied to SMS007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Cobb Vanth was an interesting choice to pull in from the extended universe. Disney did switch up the retelling of how he appropriated Boba Fett's armour. I wonder if that was intentionally misleading to keep some of his backstory mysterious or if they really are changing those events to keep things simple? Anyway, although the first episode felt like a stock spaghetti western, I'm curious to see what they'll do with Vanth later on. The obvious exchange between him and Mando at the end gives room for more character development. The other Easter Eggs in this episode were a nice touch too.- 1438 replies

Yeah, I hope it was a one-time thing for Screamer. In regard to the fillers, I can understand buying them for the sake of insurance. As you say, there is nothing in the store listings to reassure anyone that they'll be included. I'm just thinking that it would be odd not to, since MT has given us special seeker box sets before. Added to which, if you do need to use the fillers, I recommend attaching them with glue/epoxy if they don't pop into place. The included 3M tape won't fix any gap issues and works for a best case fitment. A glue/epoxy is better for corner cases where the fitment isn't spot on.- 9129 replies

Yeah. Maverick needed a real paint job. Not splotches. I also cancelled a bunch of my Earthrise pre-orders today, including the Ironhide and Ratchet sets. I think I'm done with this part of the mainline. I'll wait to see what happens with Studio Series 86 and the G1 Kingdom releases. This is definitely not a "collect them all" situation from my side.- 16670 replies

MT included the improved C-clip and pre-installed the wing fillers on their G2 Screamer release, and that was also packaged with a set of extra faces so I will be very surprised if they do not outfit Meteor EX with these same enhancements (plus the effects parts). Looking back, I'm still scratching my head wondering why MT didn't take the extra time to make sure that these items were pre-installed from the start. It seems like an about face to their original design philosophy. Anyway, water under the bridge. What I hope this EX release avoids are the quality issues that were packed in with some copies of G2 Screamer. Just my luck, this includes my own copy which arrived last week. My copy of Screamer has loose joints caused by loose/stripped, even missing screws. Some of these issues were expected after reading through Screamer's thread at TFW, but I wasn't expecting the missing screws bit. Oh well. You win some and you lose some. Luckily, MT's Blue Delta Manus arrived in the same shipment and that is in excellent shape so I'm not too fussed about having to return Screamer.- 9129 replies

Dark Crystal age of resistance on Netflix
technoblue replied to Bolt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Netflix cancellations are becoming a trend, just to give more perspective to this: https://www.businessinsider.com/best-canceled-netflix-shows-one-day-at-a-time-daredevil-2019-6#26-ozark-canceled-after-4-seasons-1 It's still unfortunate that Dark Crystal is one of those rare, unique shows that got only one season. I do hope that the Henson Company can some day find another way to finish the story they were working on.- 88 replies

Dark Crystal age of resistance on Netflix
technoblue replied to Bolt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, that was disappointing. I was hoping to see at least one more season or a feature-length piece connecting this chapter to the original Henson film. I guess we'll never know the reason it was cancelled, or see any actual viewer numbers. There's a lot of he-said/she-said which lends to odd conspiracy theories which I just don't buy anymore. I do know that those in my direct circle loved the show. Oh well. Welcome to the new Netflix: https://www.wsj.com/articles/netflix-raises-price-of-standard-premium-plans-11604000757 I need to rethink my use model for these streaming sites. The return on my monthly investment is dwindling.- 88 replies

The computer and electronics super geek thread

Well, Vulkan support is not yet confirmed, which is why I hesitate to say AMD’s implementation is universal before seeing the card work. We could find ourselves in another DirectX vs OpenGL situation where certain games are recommended for one company and other games are recommended for their competitor. Not that this is a bad thing. Curious. AI enhanced features are en vogue now, and DLSS or Super Resolution or whatever a company calls it for graphics rendering is meant to improve visual quality without the stupid hit on performance. Personally, I think we’ve come a long way from the days of setting anisotropic filtering and some compromise anti-aliasing algorithm, or hoping that higher 4k/8k native resolutions will somehow hide visual artifacts. At the very least, these AI-run features offer another option which adds to the traditional choices. -

For sure. The amount of ray tracing support AMD gets is definitely a wait and see point. If their CPU support is any indication, they might even 'reveal' more features using software updates. They have everything to gain and lose depending on how well software (and drivers) support this stuff. -
+1 Personally, I wish Hikaru had less aggressive and more dreamy eyes for this particular shot, but otherwise it's spot on to the scene. Hikaru and Misa look great together scale-wise to my old eyes. Well done, @sh9000.

It will be interesting to see if having hardware in both the new gen consoles (Playstation and Xbox) will help AMD on the PC driver front. At first blush, I am liking how AMD’s new cards are a little less power hungry. Their ray tracing implementation is a good start, but constrained compared to nVidia’s RTX. -

It's great to see AMD strong and competitive on both the CPU and GPU front again. Definitely looking forward to the independent reviews. Not sure what to think about that thing they did with Xilinx, though. I guess we'll see how that works out for them. -
I just don't know how to respond to this. I mean, I know it's all political in nature and thus verboten but I don't know. I guess all I can do is laugh.
