Wow. I don't think B was inviting you to read Matt Ruff's novel. I gather from your response that you don't even know who Matt Ruff is, which is fine. The way I see it, B was just pointing you in the direction of the story's origin. Coming into it thinking that you are going to get a modern take on traditional Lovecraftian sci-fi horror with nods to stories like At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, or The Shadow Out of Time is setting yourself up for disappointment. This isn't the story for you, if that's what you thought you were getting going in. Matt Ruff instead took the good and the bad from H.P. Lovecraft's library and made his own tale where he flipped the traditional tropes on end and changed the race of the main characters. It's a pretty cool idea, to be honest. Misha Green takes the work that Ruff did further though by adding authenticity to it since Green is able to speak directly to the experiences of prejudice and racism that Ruff was writing about in his book. It's cool if you are not into the story enough to want to read the book. Not every story reaches everyone in the audience. That's the way it goes.

I can vouch for okini.land if you are looking for another option. The TV packs that I bought from them arrived this afternoon from DHL. The pre-order page for the 1D was linked some pages back...here it is:

I was charged the same 4300 yen to ship two sets, so I guess that's the minimum rate? Not sure. I can't imagine it will be a big box, even if there are two sets packed together. Still, I miss the Amazon Japan hey day of unbelievable low cost shipping.

Hi MW friends! It's been a busy month up my way and I haven't had a lot of time to do anything but browse around these parts, but given the latest discussion I wanted to make this drive-by post while I have a spare moment. Okini shipped my two TV fast packs the other day by DHL. Yes, they're headed to the US. I hope that helps some of you who are concerned. Okini is one of the good shops, so be patient. They'll get to you. There's no need to spam them.

I got my notification for the TF Prime Breakdown and Jet Vehicon set too, as well as Green G2 Megatron. Looking forward to both. I think the whole Walmart/Target thing must be regional. I've read about how people on the west coast are seeing Thrust in stock at their local Target stores. It is strange that the pre-orders are given a different priority from in-store stock, though. One would think they would have stock set aside for in-store and pre-order purchases and that these deliveries would happen in parallel. In a perfect world, I guess...- 16670 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree with @Stampeed Valkyrie. You're almost at the half-way mark. A nice target would be episode 34, 'The Day Gigile Sang'. I found this episode incredibly touching and poignant on my first playthrough. It also helped me get invested more in the main cast. But if you get that far and still find yourself nonplussed, then that's okay. No harm done if you want to throw in the towel since you would have given the better half of this series a chance. I think the first half wears out a lot of fans, since it is such a slog before things get interesting. -
The Mandalorian - Star Wars webseries from Jon Favreau
technoblue replied to SMS007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I just finished watching the episode. It was fantastic, and delivered on the action sequences. My only critique is that I wish this and the earlier Bo Katan episode had added 10 to 15 additional minutes, but to be fair the first season did the same thing with the yo-yo episode lengths so it isn't for lack of consistency. I'm just caught up in the story and want to learn more about these characters.- 1438 replies

Oh man! A swing and a miss on Kingdom UM, Hasbro. And this right after our forum chat about MP Magnus. All I can do is laugh (and cry). We were this close to a better mini MP, using ER Prime as the core bot. The insiders over on tfw2005 confirmed it was in the cards and then abandoned as too costly. What a shame.- 16670 replies

The Mandalorian - Star Wars webseries from Jon Favreau
technoblue replied to SMS007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't know. There isn't any indication that she knows about Luke or Leah. Of course, she may be aware that the balance of the Force has shifted again given her connection to Morai. Still, that doesn't change history and all the friends/family she lost due to Order 66. The world she knew as a youngling is much different than the one she knows now in the story. She lived through the fall of the Republic, the fall of the Jedi, the rise and fall of the Empire. She's seen a lot. Does she know about Anakin's absolution and restoration? That's an interesting question. Maybe, but is she also able to forgive him like Luke did? I don't know about that. I think her words with Mando in this episode show that she still harbors strong feelings over Anakin's betrayal. One could argue that she is communicating resentment and fear for what Anakin did and that this reflects her own dark-side impulses. Anyway, I think the character is simply moving forward along another path which no longer includes her former teachers (Anakin included).- 1438 replies

No worries. Another option is to search for ships in the Bandai Kikan Taizen collection. These are 1:2000 scale, around 6 inches in length, but may be a little pricey now. If you find a good deal, and your top shelf display is deep enough, you could pair the Yamato with the Andromeda. The ships also have a neat LED gimmick.

Hey @Angesdad! I was away from the site for a moment, but it looks like everyone else covered for me. Yeah, my understanding is the same as everyone above. It's just for you lucky Canadians (sorry). For smaller personal purchases like Bandai's DX Valkyries, the US tends to wave import tax and fees. Amazon is a recent exception who seems to be proactively charging taxes and fees through its international sites now. Here in the US, that means we pay state tax where applicable (so luck is changing for us too), but everything is taken care of on Amazon's end so there's that. The one time I had to pay import tax through my courier was when I purchased a unique item from overseas made out of aluminum. This was after the changes to US trade law went into effect a couple years back, and imported aluminum was targeted with an additional import tax. The courier I used at the time sent me a bill by email.

Woops. I need to correct myself from earlier. A-E and HLJ sent my packages by DHL, which explains how they got here so quickly. Anyway, I opened my copy to give it a quick check for any potential in-hand QC issues...and since we have a couple video reviews out now. But first, I gotta say it's so cool to see Roy in his 1S with that classic TV flight suit again. My copy has well done tampo printing and paint applications. There was but one faint mark/smudge that I wiped clean with a damp cloth after opening the plastic clamshell. That was it. There are no other issues that I can see out of the box at the moment. With any luck, most of the things people encounter will be minor like this. I do still need to transform mine between the three different modes though. For now, I only fiddled with the vertical stabs, flaps and fins during my inspection. No issues with the flap gimmick or the other listed parts. And boy, this fighter is solid. I'm still reminded of that whenever I pick up a DX VF-1. That impression isn't getting old.

Oops. How strict are you about keeping it to 12 inches? BBTS has it listed at 16.70 inches (42.50cm), so just shy of 17 inches.

The Soul of Chogokin Yamato (GX-86) is well regarded around that size. I have the 2199 version GX-64. The GX-86 release includes some extra details and new motorized features, plus higher quality for the included sound bites.

Same here. Coincidentally, my YF-29 was delivered earlier today.
-
Wow. I was expecting my VF-1S to arrive from A-E tomorrow, but Fed-Ex dropped it off today with my YF-29 from HLJ. DX Roy is in the house!
-
Yessir. It’s buried three or four pages back. Here’s a link.
-
Ha! Could be. The surplus artwork that we've seen since SDF:M TV and DYRL were released do tend to mash-up the different details. I can only guess that Bandai is being strictly animation accurate with this TV Roy release, which would follow how Yamato did their TV version of Roy's 1S. So confusing. At least it won't take that much effort to turn Roy's TV 1S promo into a DYRL promo.
-
Hey rdrunner, the yellow dome is one of the few differences between the TV and DYRL Valkyries. So I’m guessing Bandai will add the yellow when they get to doing Roy’s DYRL 1S. Edit: Curiously, even Yamato and Arcadia didn’t paint up the dome for every Roy DYRL 1S release. Depending on how the Valkyrie was packaged, it could be a painted detail or an optional decal. The other DYRL Valkyries are more consistent with having the dome painted.

Same here, but over on the east coast.

My copy of Roy is on it's way from Anime-Export. I received my tracking number early this morning. I paid for shipping on Wednesday, so a pretty good turn around there.

HLJ's site is wonky. Luckily, the order that I placed was confirmed and has already shipped using DHL, so there's that.
