Tempting price... Almost tempting enough for me to buy another, but I have to draw the line SOMEWHERE.

What happened to Wheeljack's spoiler? Seriously, those are nice pictures and Magnus is looking a little more dignified (I hope those picking him up are surprised by more faces. It would be nice of TT to do, since the switch-a-roo gimmick is an actual feature). BBTS is now officially listing the MP-08X 'mystery accessory' as a throne, but no pictures of the item are posted on the site. TFSource is also hinting at a throne by using some nice artwork. Heh. It would be nice to see what it looks like. There's a fuzzy picture on tfw2005 of a very blocky throne with some light texturing and an Autobot insignia. If that's the one, then I'm going to keep my small box preorder as planned.- 16945 replies

Good question. I think so. What attracts me to the figure are the extra paint apps and the added detail in the sword. MP-08X also has the eye gimmick that MP-08 has, so I think the only trade off for either version is paint/parts (and price).- 16945 replies

Could be interesting if it has a decent amount of detail, but I'm sticking with the vanilla MP-08X. I really like what Takara/Tomy did with this alternative color scheme and I think it's great to have another chance to pick it up. The unique packaging is another bonus. As for cost, I think MP-10 (G1 Colors with trailer) still tops the chart as my most expensive Macross/Transformer purchase.- 16945 replies

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

My Yamato VF-1A CF arrived from hkcollectibles today. I was notified of a stock error earlier in the week and was expecting a delay, but hkc fixed it up quickly and upgraded my shipping from airmail to EMS at no cost. This is the 30th anniversary DRYL type, and my first VF-1A. I'm really impressed with the paint and do not mind the missing ARMD-01 tampo on the tail fins (vs Prometheus for the TV type). Revisiting this design has me hooked all over again. -

Wow. That wall display looks very nice. And the lighting looks to be an excellent solution for darker rooms. Ikea notes that the bookcase is 79.5" tall. It's time for me to take some measurements...

Benson13: Yeah, the AoE design itself is a bust for me. And Sludge isn't down for breakfast. I can't fault your logic, skullmilitia. There is this clip from the animated movie, though. Wasn't Hot Rod shorter than Optimus until after he got the matrix? You know, thinking about the character, I wish they had more than one optional face for Ultra Magnus. I think adding in a concerned face or a stern face suits Magnus more so than the smirky face---definitely more so than that howling yell of a face.- 16945 replies

Gakken: CDJapan lets you choose your shipping speed. I would have been able to cover my costs like Jasonc if I was a little more patient. Instead, I chose standard Air Mail at 3010Y before adding my points. SAL is 1700Y to my address. You can also choose Registered SAL, Registered Air Mail and EMS.

The Ark display looks great. I'm not as keen on the new AoE design aesthetic mixed with G1 colors. But I'm only saying that because of the way Grimlock looks. Have any of the other Dinobots been spoiled for the new movie? Good catch on the flap. I'm out of it altogether now, but I do hope everyone is happy with the end result. And I look forward to the pictures and the videos.- 16945 replies

Thanks for the cdjapan link, close313. I had a few funbux that I needed to use and those whittled away at the shipping charges.

I am digging both Wheeljack and Bee. I think it's great that a lot of people like MP Ultra Magnus. I hope my comments aren't coming across as too harsh. For me, it's all in good fun. And it was a relief to read that Gakken was seeing the same thing. I agree that this release may just not be for me. And I think that it is silly that people insult each other over toys. I'll have to think about what to do with my pre-order. If I cancel, I'll have more money for something else, so that is a silver lining. Haha. Update: I decided to cancel my preorder at HLJ. I think MP-22 was on order stop, so I don't know if my order will be up for grabs now or not. But FYI all the same.- 16945 replies

Haha. I think what is ruining Magnus for me is the optional O-face. Why Takara? Why?- 16945 replies

You must have posted that right when I was editing it into my message, but those are my sentiments exactly. Magnus looks enormous! I mean I remember him being a little taller than Optimus, but not Andre the Giant taller. Than again, maybe my memory is fuzzy.- 16945 replies

I was at my local TRU yesterday looking for MP Grimlock. Alas, no luck. Many a MP YOTH Prime were on display, though. Actually, the store had an impressive area set up for Transformers right at the entrance. In person, my impression of YOTH Prime mirrors that of others here on the forum: it's a pretty good paint scheme, even with the gold in place of the chrome. It would be even better at a lower price without the "ghost" trailer, or at the same price with a proper painted trailer. My only other comment is on the box...it's HUGE! Speaking of huge, TFWorld reported that official shots of Ultra Magnus are up at amazon.jp. Here's one with Optimus in his regular Takara MP colors:- 16945 replies

hevangel2's shattered glass comment reminds me of this youtube video: I thought that happened because of user error, but maybe Ikea has since changed the glass for the detolf line?

Macross Frontier Movies BD Boxset WITH ENGLISH SUBS!
technoblue replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
^^This. I use AnyDVDHD to playback Blu-rays with Media Player Classic Home Cinema on my HTPC. However, I also have a dedicated blu-ray player for really stubborn discs. MPC-HC is a nice program, but it isn't for novice users and takes some time to learn. Whatever you use on the PC, (PowerDVD, MakeMKV, or MPC-HC) make sure to keep the software up to date.- 286 replies

Orguss licensed for release on DVD release only
technoblue replied to SterlingMax's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I am going to wait and see. Mostly because my ImaginAsian DVDs still work. Anime classics on blu-ray are too good for me to pass up. I'll probably start skipping DVD releases, unless the show is a true rarity. If there is a chance that a company will negotiate a BD license down the line, and bring another subtitled HD release to North America, then I'm willing to wait for it.- 38 replies

Fantastic! Orguss needs another release around these parts. And I wonder if this means a subtitled blu-ray release is possible? If so, then even better.

Thank you, guys. I added the 30th anniversary VF-1J to my private warehouse so that I can ship it with some smaller things later. The VF-1A is on its way!
-
That's great, David! I have more DYRL Valkyries than TV Valkyries, so this idea of mine may just work out.
-
SOoo...the 30th anniversary rainbow Valkyrie is still in stock at HLJ. I've been under a rock at work and have missed a bunch of updates here on the forum. Do those of you with it in hand feel it is worth the sale price? I am sorely tempted because I could pick up this and the 30th anniversary DYRL VF-1A cannon fodder. Off topic: Apart from the head, are there any other major differences between the DYRL VF-1A CF and the TV VF-1A CF? I remember that the TV version was more popular when it was released. Thanks.

My poor Arcadia Roy. I bought two because the paint job on my first figure was so sloppy. I used the sloppy one as my model in the comparison shot above since it was a great way to accent the QC issues. I wasn't intending to imply that all of Arcadia's VF-1 Valkyries are bad with that photo, although more consistency with paint apps and tampo is a very good thing if Arcadia decides to go that way. For those wondering, I did take the picture under a hot light; however the light was not right on top of the two toys. It was three or four feet away. Mostly, I wanted to compare the two DYRL white colors---going from the greenish Yamato hue to the pinkish Arcadia hue. An unexpected bonus was the effect with the visor. Also, since my DYRL Yamato Roy is the older rainbow canopy version, it is missing a lot of the updates that are found in the 30th anniversary edition. I wouldn't call this an exact 1:1 comparison, but color-wise I'm glad it is useful.
