Untitled Neil Blomkamp directed Alien project
technoblue replied to Kanedas Bike's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Did any of you guys see Fallon's interview with Weaver on the Tonight Show? It was a fun bit. During the conversation, this topic came up. And Weaver's coy response has me thinking that negotiations are in progress, which is interesting because I thought she was done with the character. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uFJGg_GKts I'm nervous too, but damn excited if what Blomkamp has in mind becomes the real deal. -
Yes! That is, if their location and avatars are anything to go by. The Old Man has been pretty active too.

Lego VF-1S + Super Parts! We should all get behind this!
technoblue replied to spanner's topic in Toys
Yeah. I'm an optimist, so I didn't want to crush the OP's hope for this project. I agree that it would be easier if the license wasn't a mess. Maybe someday we'll have Lego Macross like we'll soon have Lego Doctor Who: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/59181 -
Lego VF-1S + Super Parts! We should all get behind this!
technoblue replied to spanner's topic in Toys
I love the idea, but this is going to be a tough license to crack. Maybe if enough of these projects hit 10,000, like the GBP and VF-1J, someone will pay attention? https://ideas.lego.com/projects/638 -
Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
technoblue replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Heh. I'm refusing to watch the movie, too - but for different reasons. It was too soon for a reboot (even my 12 year old students were complaining about that at the time!) Oh boy. I missed the train wreck that was Spiderman 3. I did see the first two McGuire films and both Garfield films, and I agree that rebooting Peter Parker's character a second time for Garfield was completely unnecessary and wasted precious screen time. Sony had a good supporting cast for both ASM films. I would have liked to see better writing build those actors up, but what's done is done. And I think that is my main concern with a live action GitS movie. I wouls like to see Dreamworks hire writers that can use the story elements that exist in the wild today and give us something cool that builds on that resource. I would hate to see another reboot that spends 2 to 3 hours reintroducing the members of Section 9.- 751 replies

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
technoblue replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's been the question that I've been mulling over since learning about the on-line petition: Have any of these enraged fans read the manga? And thank you, JB0, for pointing out how Mamoru Oshii's movies were different! Although, I didn't have a problem with them, they did tweak the story and the characters. Oshii's penchant for philosophy and introspection also made for a very dour, serious retelling. I'm sorry that it wasn't your thing. I can see how it could be a shock, especially if you read the manga first (I saw the movie first, and enjoyed the manga all the more). Each version of GitS does something different. Even SAC started to embellish details, especially with certain characters to add dimension and give something for the audience to hold onto. I don't think any of the animated releases have been a 1:1 retelling of Masamune Shirow's original story. I do think they are all heavily influenced by it. Myself, I'm easy when it comes to GitS. I like the cyberpunk setting and I have enjoyed each and every release. I'm curious about whether Dreamworks as a studio can do a good live adaptation. I do think it will be fantastic if this gets done right, and so I wait for more news.- 751 replies

Nice job on the video review, Gakken85. I hope the upcoming MP-10 reissue matches the quality of the Asia release. Even though the price was high, I was impressed with the quality of my figure. The upcoming Takara reissue is a double dip for me, something I usually try to avoid.- 16669 replies

LoL! I'm right there with you, Mechapilot77. I've been thinking of picking up the KO MP-10 in white Magnus colors to ease the pain. MP-22 is okay, but it isn't what I've come to expect from most Transformers. Even the Prime and Generations toys that I have are engineered with better articulation. Oh well...- 16669 replies

I have the Asia reissue MP-10. Here's a quick and dirty shanpshot. The "landing gear' for the trailer appears to have the upgraded lip. It's pretty easy to pull them down.- 16669 replies

I think my chameleon comment stands. This Valkyrie may be one that a person has to see in person to appreciate.

I also had no idea who that little guy was until I heard peaugh talking about Minimus Ambus in one of his Ultra Magnus reviews. http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Minimus_Ambus This character seems to be a creation for the IDW continuity. The toy is nice. And I see that they are sticking with an all-in-one transformation for this line too.- 16669 replies

Yeah. I don't have any stress marks either. I admit, I haven't transformed Ultra Magnus back and forth as much as that guy has. The news has made me aware that I need to be careful around that piece, though. My anxiety should fade in time, especially if these breaks with mp-22 are uncommon user error.- 16669 replies

Huh? I'm sorry, but that's disingenuous. The point isn't that "insert perceived victim" is bad or good. The point is to reflect on the state of our culture. To go off topic somewhat, Elysium wasn't about 'white people' ... ugh ... it was about class structure. Might the story have been better? Sure! Everything could use improvement, and I think Elysium's ending could have been fleshed out some. That doesn't mean I think it was poor by any stretch, though. The main themes may not have had much complexity amid the special effects, but they were still timely. Suffice it to say, I think Blomkamp has a unique voice that is worth listening to. I also really enjoy how he uses science fiction to get his point across. There aren't many writers or directors who who brave the utility of SF as a social forum today.

Here's a cropped version of the above picture with contrast and brightness adjustments that help to reveal both halves of the hinged piece. It looks like the rounded part of the hinge rests at an angle when the arm is locked in place: This is a little different than the VF-1 transformation. For the VF-1, the rounded part of the hinge rests at an angle when the arms are stowed away fighter mode. However, in battroid and gerwalk modes when the square half is folded out and locked in place to reveal the arms, that piece is lying flat. Someone else will have to verify if Arcadia's 0D set up is the same as Yamato's old VF-0 design. I don't have one of those on hand to compare.

Welp, my finger is moving toward the panic button. I have been lurking in the mp-22 threads at tfw2005. One post in particular is troubling me. Does your mp-22 have stress marks on the blue waist piece? Those of you who are familiar with mp-22 know that there is a small blue hinge connecting the waist. This hinge flips back and forth to move a panel for robot mode and truck mode. It appears that it can also be a point of failure on this figure. A number of people are already seeing stress marks on this piece at tfw2005, and one person was unlucky enough to have the piece break after transforming Ultra Magnus a number of times. Here's the post from the mp-22 thread showing the break: Fragile mp-22 I'm not sure what to think, which is why I'm hesitating with the panic. Stuff like would certainly annoy me if I fell victim to it, and enough people have stress marks on that piece to make me wonder why it was plastic to begin with, but will that break become a common defect? Time will tell if mp-22 will have me raising my fist and yelling, "Takara!"- 16669 replies

Bandai Gobots/Machine Robo Series Toy Thread
technoblue replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yay! Possibly. I think Go-Bot naming schemes are more creative by a mere half-factor. The names had no affect on how much I enjoyed these things as a kid, though. I do think it's ironic how an affordable line could turn out to be expensive with this release. -

Yes. And the updated 0S and 0A. In my head space, which is now exhausted by discussions of color, I've dubbed the VF-0D the Chameleon Valkyrie. It changes its look to hide from picky nits.

Yeah, I understand the concern. It is a lot of money. As fans, we can spend a lot of time in scrutiny---going over every seam and detail. If someone finds an attribute that they are sure will get in the way of their enjoyment, then I think it is worth walking away from the figure. No amount of money is worth paying for it at that point. I think I've been lucky with Macross so far. Apart from my own user error with things like the 171, I've been happy. Yes, even the Tux-1J won me over in person. I think that the VF-0D will also win me over with its good looks, even if it is more of a Max-0D when we see the final colors.

Bandai Gobots/Machine Robo Series Toy Thread
technoblue replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yessiree! I need a new bike robo/cy-kill because my old one fell apart and my eagle robo/Leader-1 has a loose wing. Go-bots are due some time in the spotlight. -
I'm at peace with the color of the 0D. What has me really excited is the engineering, and I can't wait to see how the new features/gimmicks work in the final version. That, to me, is worth the extra cost. To continue with the ice cream analogy, the aesthetics are the cherry on top of the sundae. And if this leads to an updated VF-0S or VF-0A as some have speculated in this thread, then all the better.
