  1. First, Adventure Time is hillarious. Second, Transformers Animated should have been given a chance. When you consider what they were doing with Sari's character, and how well it was being executed, the show had more potential than Transformers Prime. And I should say, I give a lot of kudos to Prime, so I think it was a big loss when Animated was cut short.
  2. Thanks for the input, everyone! ChaoticYeti also reported having good markings, along with posting some good photos. And I'll repeat that this is a very, very minor thing on my copy too. My 0D is excellent in every other aspect.
  3. The Fate-UBW monologuing got to me, as well. I fell asleep half-way through the latest episode.
  4. Yeah. I thought there was another comparison photo too, but I can't find it now. My copy has a similar issue where the intake marking on the right leg is printed higher than the marking on the left leg. Looking at photos where people have "good" markings on both sides, it looks like the right leg should match the left leg and be set a little lower. I guess it wouldn't hurt sending HLJ a message to see if they will help you out? But I also wonder if this was an issue with the stock that HLJ received? Did anyone get a VF-0D from HLJ with "good" intake markings?

You can be a Macross fan without owning any of the toys. But, if you want some at this scale, I wouldn't lose hope so soon. There will be more opportunities to get the GBP set without paying eBay prices. You may have to wait until the end of September to place your order, though.
  6. My intake markings are 1 to 1.5mm off left to right, looking straight on at the nose in fighter mode. I'm not bothered by the misalignment, though. If it makes any difference, I also received my VF-0D from HLJ.
  7. Three Zero's Weiss Schnee is coming soon: BBTS http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=THZ10048&mode=retail HLJ http://www.hlj.com/product/thz44493 Also, Rooster Teeth is planning to move forward with the show (this news is from March, for those who do not follow their facebook feed): http://roosterteeth.com/members/journal/entry.php?id=3318124 <edit: The RT store early-bird promotion for Weiss is over; removed the link>

Thanks. I misunderstood too, jenius, so it's cool. Sweet! The DYRL scheme looks nice. If Bandai does make their own version at this scale, it will be interesting to see how/if they improve on the design.
  9. I'm with Keith on this. The Gathering is what helped me to fall in love with Season 1 (and accept the changes that came in the following seasons). On it's own, it does seems out of place. And there were certain make-up changes and character changes that were made when the show was picked up (the DVD commentaries mention this history if you are into learning about that sort of thing). And now that I've seen the entire series, it is fun to go back and watch this pilot movie to see how JMS was busy planting seeds for his 5-year long plot. Also, there are a total of five movies. The fifth introduces the next series, Crusade. But, alas, that only lasted for one season.

I guessed around $100USD above. I haven't checked to see if anyone else was guessing that high. Anyway, it wasn't meant to be a melodramatic example; it was a guess based on ignorance. To date, the only non-transforming Macross item I've had in my collection (and, coincidentally, the only enemy mecha) is Mira's Queadluun Rau, which is a different beast that offers a different kind of value—I'm thinking of the TV mods here. If Bandai adds a pilot figure of some sort for 7000 to 7500 yen, then I think it would still be a good buy. That retail price would also give flexibility for options, similar to what Takara does with the MP Transformers line.
  11. It wasn't this thread, but I mentioned somewhere on the forum that I enjoyed the first season of the old show as a kid. It has a quirky 1980s charm. At this point, the live action trailer isn't delivering much in the nostalgia department. At least Bay's Transformers had Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime.

Oh! Thanks for pointing out the OP, jv. And apologies to alvaro. I should have "scrolled up."
  13. Nah. What the IDW comic is doing with Jem doesn't matter. The live action movie, the comic, and the old animated series are unique-even mutually exclusive. For fans of the original animated series, I think it would have been nice to have a few direct nods to the animated series that didn't completely rewrite Jerrica's origin story or the way she became a pop star. That trailer doesn't remind me of Jem at all, either. To me, it seems like more of a bland coming of age film. That may be fine for new audiences, but it will be disappointing for anyone who has seen the original show.
  14. I agree, Scyla. You make good points. Star Saber taught me that I need to be more discerning about my purchases. I got caught up in the Masterpiece fever without having any attachment to the character. I also think I was drawn to MP-24 because of the armor, which I missed in MP-22. For MP-22, it would have been nice to see Takara have the time and budget to go in a different direction. I do think time was a major factor in dictating what we got for Ultra Magnus. And even though I was hard on this figure in my own rant, I have to admit it is okay for what it is: a toy built with compromises in order to get that cartoon look and cartoon transformation down. I still think MP-22 could have had that same look while having a better transformation worthy of the $120-$180USD price that these "big" bots retail at. As it is, my favorite large scale toys in the rebooted MP line are Optimus and Soundwave. And I love the MP cars, even though these have their own faults too (Bumblebee's hollow arms, for example). It's just easier for me to overlook them.
  15. Yes! Season 1-4 of Babylon 5 are excellent. When it was on the air, I was into Deep Space 9 and didn't give the show as much of a chance as I should have done. I got back to it years later and ate it up on DVD. Season 1 is my favorite, but it isn't always a favorite among fans and the CGI effects are weaker. For story, I think season 5 is weaker due to the issues Kelsain noted above but it does wraps up one important subplot. I'll save the details since they are worth seeing for yourself, myk. I remember thinking the same thing about B5's Starfuries and the Gunstars from TLS after watching the movie again on Blu-ray recently. It is a cool design for a fighter.

This is what I was getting at above. I have no stake in the debate, but I do like gimmicks in toys (articulated or not), especially when prices hover around or shoot above $100USD. A fully articulated pilot that could also double as an action figure would be a welcome surprise, and so I have more empathy for jvmacross and his method of dreaming big. I don't know how much that gimmick would add to the cost given Bandai's process, but at this scale I don't want to get my hopes up.

It doesn't have to work like Miria in her Queadluun-Rau battle suit. At this size, it could work like Klan-Klan in her Queadluun-Rea. That is, it may be less of a compromise to the toy if the pilot was cut down somehow or not removable. Just a thought...
  18. As Kelsain noted, TLS and SW are similar in that they are expressions of the Hero's Journey. Gakken's definition is highlighting that point, but I don't agree with the last part. The Hero's Journey has been told a number of different times and in a number of different ways: as far back as the Iliad to as recent as Bleach. It's due to the fact that creative, talented people find new ways to change the details that we get new heroes and new journeys. In other words, the core writing trope is just a template. It's what a person does with that template that matters. Given the current topic, I think both stories earned their place, and I appreciate the differences. On a related note, it's a shame that arcade consoles are all but extinct, unless you are into MAME.
  19. The trailer was great, and I think you are right about it matching the tone of the 1970s Wonder Woman series with Linda Carter. It's a statement of sorts: that superhero shows can go in a different direction without losing their heart. And, besides, I've liked how Kara Zor-El has been set up in other DC properties as accepting her role differently than Kal-El. That is, Supergirl has always been a juxtaposition of Superman. And this show seems to be embracing that strongly. I'll defintely give it a shot and rate it on its own merits instead on damning it because of one short trailer. Although, I do like some of the changes I see. As for comparing this show to the likes of Daredevil or Agents of Shield, I think that is too much apples to oranges. Marvel is finally having some success on the small screen, and with streaming, which is a good thing. But the DC and Marvel properties are literally worlds apart. I enjoyed Daredevil, although the intense violence did get in the way of a couple of episodes. Still, the story was strong. But I wouldn't have figured that out without watching it.
  20. Edit: I agree with Ignacio... It may be that the nose is out of focus, but there is that space between the cockpit and the airbrake that appears to have a darker shade of grey than the body of the fighter. Is that section unpainted? I would havce expected the 0A to be closer to that darker grey. As it is, if it wasn't for the stripes, I would have thought this was a 0S because of the lighter grey.
  21. Clips from SDF: Macross are always fun, especially when the color debates heat up. This has happened before and it will happend again. I'm embarassed to say that no one is safe! http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=36150 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=41447&page=3
  22. I have Filco and Leopold mechanical keyboards here at home. Both are easy to recommend, and both come in full-sized and tenkeyless layouts (no numpad). I use one keyboard outfit with blue Cherry switches specifically for typing and another outfit with Brown Cherry switches for general/gaming use. I also like having a tenkeyless keyboard for games/portability, but that's more of a personal thing. I definitely need a full-sized keyboard for writing (I can't give up alt-num codes). CoolerMaster also makes a line of full-sized and tenkeyless mechanical keyboards that get good reviews.
  23. Yeah. The Taipan was released a couple of years after the left-handed edition of the Deathadder. If I were in the market today, I would give a good look at the wireless Ouroboros or the wired Taipan. For now, though, my Deathadder is still kicking. The Abyssus is just too small for my hand, or I might consider that one too.
  24. The Razer Deathadder is a good mouse. I went with the left-handed version when my ambidextrous Logitech mouse died. It's very comfortable in the hand, but I can't speak to the software since I'm not a fan of using software for wired mice. I do find myself sliding into a claw grip on rare occasions with certain tasks and games, which causes me to accidentally click the thumb buttons. That's more of my own issue though, and not a harsh critique of the mouse itself. I also wish there were more ambidextrous mice with top-of-the-line features, but that's a rant for another day.
