As I posted in Exo's thread, most of the faces look odd. For now, I dunno.

TF 2014 Toynami Robotech 30th releases / reissues
technoblue replied to skullmilitia's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Of the face sculpts, Minmay and Roy are passable. The rest of them just look strange. Is that really how HG is trying to tweak the look for Robotech?- 37 replies

I agree with this. I'm not against complex transformations, but like jenius noted above I like the feeling that each movement has a purpose and each piece has its place in each mode. Baring that, it's nice when the toy looks sleek and put together. In Batroid mode, I think Bandia did a great job. Fighter mode is fiddly, though. It could be that I'm just not used to it. I haven't had time to go back to my copy since I've been busy with a writing deadline at work. When I do get a chance to revisit it, I'm going to try and reseat those pieces above the intakes. I wasn't able to get them flush when going back to fighter the first couple of times. And that could be because I missed a step, but fighting that and the hip-joint-from-hell was putting a damper on my fun. Also I want to try loosening the screw on the tight hip joint since someone noted that it can help.

Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
technoblue replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I know there are a few Whovians like me on the boards. The classic television show is what got me into science fiction. Man, I remember watching the weekly broadcasts on my parents black and white RCA CRT. It was on at the same time when my Dad liked to watch the news and the color set was off limits. There was no remote for the RCA set, just a couple of analog "clicky" dials. So Big Chief Studios has been releasing a 1/6-scale line of Doctor Who figures. I have the classic Tom Baker and William Hartnell figures already, and they're wicked. My copy of the new Matt Smith figure arrived today: That's from the big chief site. I'll try to post some of my own pictures later. -
Not to speak for david, but the rubik's cube has a solution, and it is well-documented. In contrast, making excuses for over-engineering in manufacturing (whether one is talking about a toy or something else) is not a solution. There are parts of the VF-19 Advanced that could have been better thought out. However, because Bandai chose to make it the way that they did, it requires more effort on behalf of the user. It's fine if you think that is fun, Actar. I'm just wondering how many who have it in hand agree with you. For full disclosure, I do think it is challenging to transform. But fun? I guess that depends on how my day is going. LoL!

This question comes up every now and then. My habits have changed a bit. I tried to keep all boxes early on, but I don't have enough space at home to collect both boxes and what comes inside. I would need to rent storage! For me, I only keep the box if it's something I don't like. It's useful if I'm planning to sell it off or if I made a rash purchasing decision and it's still sealed. If it's something I enjoy, then what's inside is worth more than the cardboard and inserts.

Takara didn't win me over with the first reveal of MP Iron Hide. Because of that, I'll be holding onto my FansToys Willys pre-order until there's more than a silhouette of MP Hound.- 16669 replies

It amazes me how far the HG cabal will go to avoid reality. Kawamori and crew should plan on doing a crowd-funded Macross project some day. Not that it's necessary, but it would be fun to (you know) see it done right. I can think of a couple other people who could succeed where Yune and company failed too, but I digress. I wouldn't want to get too far off topic. I'm just surprised by how far HG is taking its train of old news and crap commentary.

I hope this line does well enough for Bandai to consider to release more than five.

I don't get it.

Excellent point. KFC and Takara had similar all-in-one transformations, but I think Citizen Stack is the better version too, especially if you are a fan of articulation and that IDW look. I really thought Takara would differentiate themselves by giving Magnus a white prime/magnus parts release...cartoon accuracy be damned. Oh well, it's not worth revisiting that old wound.- 9128 replies

For what it's worth, run 2 of Apollyon is starting to arrive for people who waited to order, and is getting even more positive feedback than run 1. I'm not counting Takara out when it comes to Decepticons, but I do agree that it seems Autobots are the real focus of the official releases. I don't know if my 3P purchases are do to a lack of patience or a lack of faith that Takara/Hasbro will complete the MP line before I go senile. But I still love a good surprise.- 9128 replies

Isn't that standard policy for both Bandai and Arcadia? If you are local to Japan, you have access to spare parts. If you are an international buyer, you are out of luck.

I like my Bandai VF-19 Advanced, but it is a fiddly, complicated toy. I like how the canards fold out of the way during transformation, but I wish there was a way to lock them in place in Battroid mode. The feet are nice and stiff without being too tight, but I am worried that they will loosen up in time. I do wish there was an extra notch when extending the feet: a notch in the middle somewhere to hide the ankle joint in Battroid mode allowing me to use the fully extended position for Gerwalk only. Also, on my copy, one leg is easy to rotate at the hip whereas the other has a deathgrip on the swiveling ball joint (as if a screw is too tight). It is a pain to move in and out of position between modes because of the torque I have to apply to that piece. And often, during my first transformation, flipping that leg about with any force would unseat the hip bar on the same side. The shoulder pads/pylons are a pain to wiggle back into place for fighter mode too, as are those hinged pieces above the intakes. The Tampo printing is great. When everything is flush in fighter mode, this toy has a sleek profile, and I love the waist gimmick. I would be hard pressed to rank either Bandai's or Arcadia's 19 as the best version of Isamu's ride, especially if appearance was my only criteria. In my eyes they both do a good job mimicking the animation from their respective series. If I were to rank based on transformation experience, then the Arcadia and Yamato 19s leap ahead. Perhaps as I continue to break in the Bandai 19, my impression of the transformation will approve. That's my hope, anyway.

+1 Punchline seems so underrated. I had fun with it this season too. It has that zany Gainax/Trigger feel for a number of episodes. I also enjoyed Plastic Memories. I think anyone who liked Chobits will probably get caught up in this story, as well. (I know I did.) -

Cupola will be my first headmaster. Ever. As a kid, targetmasters appealed to me more as "something" cool and different in the line-up. Headmasters were silly. A couple of other things ended up turning my attention away from transformers for a long while until college: the trauma of the 1986 movie (when it was ordained that most of the G1 crew needed to die to make room for other toys), and M.A.S.K. The latter of which did a very good job of satisfying my young desire to see people controlling transforming things.- 9128 replies

I'm inclined to think the same. After looking at Mr. K's twitter feed through the machine translator, he seems to confirm that it is not part of Arcadia's retail line-up.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!

Thanks for the mini-review! I'm not a die-hard keyboard and mouse player. For most third-person adventure games, like those in the Batman series, I prefer using a controller too. Hopefully it won't take long for Rocksteady/WB to iron out the lingering bugs and offer a twice-baked PC version for sale.- 6749 replies

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
technoblue replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That stinks about Arkham Knight. i have Rocksteady's other Batman games and was looking forward to adding this to my Steam queue. I think the first game that really taught me to be picky about my purchases was Sword of the Stars II. I still have fun playing the original, but buying the sequel on release day was a tough lesson. As an RTS, SotS2 needed another year of development and testing.- 6749 replies

Great Apollyon and Warbotron pics! I have one loose rivet on my Apollyon that I'm going to try and tighten when I have some time this weekend. It's more of a nitpick than an issue, though. GigaPower sold me on picking up MP-sized Dinobots again with Guttur (not-Snarl). The metallic version has some creative shading on the tail, too. It was a tough choice to pick one version over the other, but I'm going with the chrome reissue. I'm a sucker for the red dino eyes and the extra shine. As for the physical aesthetics, I find that I prefer GigaPower's muscular/beefy look for Snarl to FansToys toon accurate look. For my head canon, it makes sense that a stegosaurus would transform into a hulking robot. Not that FansToys is a slouch. They have more of their dinobots out, and FT-05 Soar is incredibly tempting. I could easily pick up the blue version today, but I'm also interested in a possible FT-05X reissue. LoL! I think I have more 3P pre-orders in my Transformers queue than official releases this year.- 9128 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've been watching the Puella Magi Madoka Magica movies this week, and just finished the third installment. It was good, but I didn't really know how to respond to the ending. Half of me wanted to applaud, and the other half wanted to throw something at the television. It does succeed at being different, and making the viewer think. It is emotional (like Steins;Gate, another great anime that shares a certain plot aesthetic), but it really hammers one with a roundhouse of feelings. The open ending didn't bother me too much. It's rare to see a series respect its audience's imagination instead of spelling everything out. Anyway, for those who still have it in their queue, I can't recommend it highly enough. Keep the tissues handy, though.
