    Things like that pilot, the landing gear, and the odd shadows in the new fighter pic are tipping me into the Photoshop camp. But I really want to see this succeed on some level, so it's also nice to think that they are adding to and refining the mold with December half a year away! Anyway, I placed my order with HLJ too.

    Right. If it works and you are happy, then that's good. The official DVDs are long out of print, so I'm not sure how easy they are to find on a site like Amazon or Ebay today. It may be better to look on Japanese sites and auction venues if getting those DVDs is important, and then there is the business of adding subtitles which I already noted. The official Blu-ray may be easier to find, but it has its own issues.

    Sadly, no. None of the releases listed comes packaged with English subs. Luckily, a forum member here on Macross World created a step-by-step tutorial for adding English subtitles to the original DVDs: Subtitles for the Bandai Region 2 DVD Subtitles for the FX-Region Free DVD The subtitle links in those threads should still work. If you have problems downloading them, let me know as I should still have local copies backed up here at home. I was able to follow these instructions a while ago to add subs to my DYRL Perfect Edition DVD. IMO, this is probably the best version of what was before the changes that were made to the Remastered HD version. Being able to add subtitles is a nice bonus. That said, I also love Macross in HD. And I do have a copy of DYRL Remastered on Blu-ray (I skipped the DVD Remastered HD release). These subtitles are not timed correctly for the HD Remaster, and they are not scaled properly to the Blu-ray version. Making them compatible will take a little more work. I don't know if anyone has tackled it yet.

    Perhaps it's another issue of tight joints? Tight die-cast joints has been one of the valid corner cases that have come up in this thread, and they do seem to keep the plastic tabs from locking well in certain modes. In my case, specifically, I was having the most difficulty with the hip on one side of my VF-19 Advanced. Because the hip was locked tight to its swing bar, it kept jumping the plastic tab that locked it in place and made it less fun and more annoying to transform from fighter to gerwalk to battroid. Luckily, someone else with a similar issue mentioned that the screws for this piece are accessible. Loosening the screw on that piece --carefully-- alleviated my problem.

    IIRC, there were a few choices: Go with the Blu-ray if you want the Remastered Edition in real HD quality (which looks fantastic) and don't mind the censorship. Search for the Remastered HD Edition DVD in (which is lower quality with higher grain) Search for the Macross DYRL Perfect Edition DVD if you can't stand censorship. Or get all three, if you are able and so inclined. Also, late last year there was word of a fan edit to restore the cut violent scenes to the BR version but I'm not sure what became of it. Edit: Added the Remastered DVD to to the list, which I forgot earlier.

    I thought the movie was good fun. And like other Marvel films, it is setting up obvious sequels and tie-ins, but I'm a sucker for that stuff and I'll come back with the family to watch those too.

    It depends on the volume/weight of the box and where it is going. Amiami is one of the few places where I SAVE money going with air mail small packet, so I sometimes use that if I can wait for the item (and it is small enough).     While looking for more GigaPower/Gutter news this morning, I noticed that a curious question has popped up among their recent facebook posts: GigaPower responded with the following: I peeked at the tfw2005 threads mentioned above. The FansToys representative is speaking rather loose, and some of his messages not only claim this Quakeblast rumor directly but also note that GigaPower lost a designer. From my point of view, it looks like they are attempting to use their popularity in the community to create an unfair advantage. I don't know if FansToys is planning to go after GigaPower legally. That still seems unclear. And it seems rather strange since third parties base their designs off of the unlicensed official IP from Hasbro/Takara. However, the fact that GigaPower is releasing HQ-03R (Chrome Guttur) and plans to showcase more not-dinobots soon after makes this noise very strategic on FansToys part. If the legal stuff is more than just hot air to feed fan boys, it could end rather poorly if Hasbro or Takara decided to put its foot down too I guess. I mean FansToys is already very familiar with that experience so why make themselves visible in the legal landscape again? TL;DR - There's some ugly 3P competition brewing.

    +3^ I only lurk on TFW2005. I get more from the news feeds and the pictures than I do from the forums. I don't know, but I do not envy the mods on that site their job, because it seems that Transformers is often cursed by its own popularity.

    There's something about the new pictures that make Ironhide look better. For me, I think it is the perspective, since we see someone holding the van in their hands. TFW2005 also has some additional photos, with one showing Ironhide standing next to Optimus and Bee and that also looks very good.

    Fighter mode is key. The VF-19 takes some work to look good. If you go this route, make sure to watch the videos that have been posted in the VF-19 Advanced thread. There are multiple steps, and if you attach the add-on parts, some steps require you to fiddle with transformation joints. The videos will definitely save you time and frustration. In contrast, the VF-25S does not need much (if any) tweaking to display in fighter mode. Out of the box, you simply raise the twin tails (the two vertical stabilizers), spread the wings as you like, and lower the gear (for a gear-down display) or leave them alone to attach the Valkyrie to a stand for an in-flight display. Oh, and don't forget Ozma.

    Given the different direction of this Ghostbusters film, I don't mind that they are using a later model Cadillac for the car. There could be a number of reasons for why, but I don't necessarily buy the reasoning dictated in the article. I'm more inclined to think that this new movie has its own art direction and a late-80's Cadillac fits better with that art direction than the old Ecto-1. The reason also may hinge on whether this is truly a remake/reboot or if it is new fiction set at a later date where multiple ghost busting franchises now exist in the same universe. I haven't been following the news on this close enough to substantiate that last comment, though.

    This is my definition. My living room PC is a general use HTPC/gaming PC that has seen many iterations. The first was an old beige dual-boot XP/Linux box that pre-dated PCI Express. I kept it in a nearby closet and connected the GPU to a CRT television using an S-Video cable just to see if I could get a picture. It worked, but fine text was not legible. I did have fun playing music and running visualizations with the old Winamp milkdrop plugin, though. The lower resolution didn't ruin the effect. Today, my living room PC runs 8GB of memory, a Haswell CPU and a GTX 760, which allows it to play all games at 1080p with high detail. Physically, the living room PC is smaller than my desktop and that allows me to have it out with other components. Both the living room PC and the desktop PC are remarkably quiet to my ears, which is a big bonus, especially when watching movies on the living room PC. It simply doesn't draw attention to itself, even in the hushed moments of a tense/dramatic scene. For me, what started as a curiosity turned into a mission for convenience. The HTPC/living room PC specifically contains installations for platformers, JRPGs, rogue-likes, and certain action titles that are game pad friendly. If a title is game pad friendly and it also has multiplayer support (shared screen or split screen), then it jumps to the top of my wish list. I just find it fun to have these games available when I have company. I also run emulators, like Dolphin, to play old console games through the box. For the case of Dolphin, this provides another benefit by improving the visuals for my Gamecube and Wii discs instead of just emulating the output exactly. Other titles like simulations, turn-based games, and first-person shooters are still loaded on the desktop. I still prefer to use a keyboard and mouse or stick and throttle with these. There are some older games that I have to use a keyboard and mouse because of nostalgia reasons too. It just wouldn't feel right going with any other controller, because I beat the game years ago with the kb+mouse. As with other pre-built PCs, there are different tiers for pre-built Steam Machines. If you have the time and know-how to do it yourself, it is probably more cost effective to go that route. For those that do not, there are high-tier options with high-tier components too. They just come with a high-tier price.

Anyway, split-screen couch gaming should be old hat by now. The only reason to drop it is...EA.

    Thank you for the mini-review, Valkyrie2008! I am also drawn to Guttur's size (especially in dino mode). The two-tone look of the metallic version is unique–a nice twist to the toon colors. And it's tempting to get both and choose a favorite with my own eyes. On the other hand, I do prefer the smokey plastic parts in the colored prototype of the chrome version, and I'm also a sucker for shiny dinos. Sticking with the chrome releases (as you say) means that I may receive any potential fixes out of the box while having more time to budget for each release. Decisions...decisions... Thanks, again!

    Nice. I'm enjoying Apollyon/Megatron too. I see you have the metallic version of Guttur. How is that holding up? I have the chrome version on pre-order and have been debating with whether I should wait patiently for it or request the metallic version instead. I'll be passing on FansToys reissue too, even though there's a nice selection this time for those who waited. My original release Quakewave is still really solid and I don't have any impulse to get another. But I am interested in Qaukeblast from Cloud 9, and may pick that up to add some variety, especially if they end up doing different paint schemes.

    I remember reading about this in one of the older threads. Seeing it is something else, though. THAT is damn clever. Anything of mine that no longer has a box or card goes into a nice plastic tote with handles and a lid. I seal the toys, figures and accessories in acid-free zip bags and layer them with bubble wrap. If, for some reason, I need to store one of these totes for an extended period of time, I try to throw in a few silica gel packs too since they cut down on moisture.

    Good question! I would go out on a limb and say that Bandai has made an excellent PT VF-19 Advanced (even though my first transformation was difficult). I consider it a great addition to a mature line. My experience began with Yamato, though, so I admit that my knowledge of the many releases of the 19 is limited. But I'm one of those guys who has multiple Yamato 19 Valkyries: the Fire Valkyrie, the VF-19S, and more recently the VF-19P. My only huge criticism is of the pilot for the 19P. Although I understand why Basara was included in his Dynamite 7 get-up, I really wish a Zola pilot had also been added to that package. For me, whether it is Yamato or Arcadia or Bandai, I think each company did/is doing a good job at trying to make anime accurate versions of their respective version. I'd have to haul all of mine out to give more of a critical analysis. At the moment, only Bandai's Advanced and Yamato's 19S are on display.

    It's a fair opinion, but I dunno (even looking at your picture). Where you see a fatter nose, I see more well defined curves. The Bandai looks almost pencil thin and lacking definition. And that IS the Frontier look, so mine isn't really a criticism. I just think that it looks different from the YF-19 in Macross Pus. The color issue is a fair point, although I'm not bothered by it. The one thing I'm not sure about is the line art comment. I think it would be better if you took a picture of each fighter from straight above to give an apples to apples comparison from the same perspective. It's hard to say which one is more accurate with this layout since they are both off center.
