  1. I have the old US release of this on DVD, along with Life of Brian. When the surviving members started doing anniversary sets, it quickly became a fun running gag. I skipped the other releases, though. I guess it's time to finally pony up and get the movie on blu-ray.
  2. ! It can make for good entertainment, which can help pass the time, if you don't let it get to you. Back in the VF-0D thread, there were a number of people inundating Arcadia with color complaints, including reports of Tenjin contacting Arcadia himself! After discussing things with Tenjin, Arcadia finalized the 0D's "factory fresh" blue. IIRC, Japanese fans gave the updates a positive reception even thought our own Macross World reception was still mixed. BTW, I like mine. The GBP/VF-1J set was an interesting scenario. Mr. K originally noted that the release was going to have white goggles and that sent a bunch of us marching back into the color debates. Then, right before Arcadia's GBP set hit retail he noted that it had grey goggles. I wonder if Bandai's Hi-Metal R line encouraged them to change things? That would be a question for another thread, though. I think all of this goes to show that Mr. K can only reveal a certain amount of information that Arcadia deems "public" on services like Twitter, and sometimes that information can change. But fan speculation, for better or worse, seems to be a constant.
  3. This assumes that the source image does not have a color bias. Not to go too far off topic, but even blu-ray releases are not perfect and are known to have this (red and green pop up the most for live action stuff). it's a source of consternation for media purists at sites like avsforum.
  4. I really couldn't vote for one extreme or the other. If there was a middle of the road option, I would have voted.
  5. It's a tie all around for me. Where Bandai impressed me with the engineering on the VF-19 Advanced, sometimes that engineering got in the way of my enjoyment of the toy. There were tight spots that reminded me of scary pieces on the VF-171, which is my least favorite Valkyrie to date. The price was better than Arcadia's, though. And I felt like I was getting more for my money with the extra markings and the Advanced Packs. The T-REX add-on packs for Arcadia's YF-19 are separate, hard to find (with the limited license) and increase the cost if you are lucky to find them. I like Arcadia's cockpit and pilot detail. I like the curvy details that seem to match the original art in fighter mode. I like that Arcadia has fewer gaps in this mode, and I also prefer Arcadia's landing gear. I also think that both Bandai and Arcadia do a good job of capturing the aesthetics of their respective anime properties. To my eyes, the YF-19 in Battroid mode is unmistakably mecha from the Macross Plus/Macross 7 era and the VF-19 Advance in Battroid is unmistakably mecha from the Frontier era. You can't go wrong with either, if you get a good copy. My wish for future releases is that Bandai would improve its quality consistency and that Arcadia would continue to improve and justify their premium value.
  6. Sweet. This g-mode pic is really good!
  7. People have a right to nitpick if that is their thing, but I wouldn't want to make a company responsible for answering each and every nitpick. Some get ridiculous. Besides, each company has its own rules for customer facing communications. One company might do what Arcadia is doing and allow Twitter and blog posts. Another might not allow any of that. And different parts of a company may allow for different access to customers. My #1 big issue is spare parts for international customers. And I would like to see a new, viable way emerge to deliver those spare parts officially, even in limited quantities. I think that would be a nice forward-thinking benefit, but right now I understand that cost is a big obstacle and that's too bad. Luckily, there are other unofficial avenues if someone gets stuck with a broken Valkyrie.
  8. No idea beyond speculation. People have asked Mr. K on Twitter about the colors for other releases (the VF-0D and the VF-1 are good examples), but his answers lead to more debates here on the forums. I've learned to stop worrying about it.
  9. I'm okay with it. This version seems to have its own low-vis look and feel (as others have noted) even with the blue accents. I think it will display well with the 0D. I will admit to being a little confused with the departure from the gull grey tones of the prior Yamato release, but meh. Arcadia is marching to a different drum.
  10. Ouch. That reminds me of how things were in the US not too long ago. I wasn't able to buy or collect much of anything (never mind Macross collectibles) from 2009 until 2012. I try to think positively about this stuff, but on most days I agree wholeheartedly with spanner76. The wisest course may be to find one or two favorites and stop there, or walk away like Valk-1S when prices get too expensive. Man, the world economy is still a big worry.
  11. My bad too. I saw the 30th Anniversary sticker and thought that the seller's note was accurate. If this was a complete Valkyrie, then the higher bids at the end make more sense since this has become a rare find nowadays. Edit: brain be backwards...
  12. No option parts. The seller noted that everything else was included when I asked about the item. I didn't get to bid on it, but I do think the buyer and the seller each walked away with a nice deal.
  13. Used VF-1A SFV-26 Cavaliers type, missing the optional parts but the box seems to be in good shape. US seller. Final bid: $191.50. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamato-1-60-VF-1A-SFV-26-Cavaliers-/291529922383?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=NHS7yZ5ZbeAo9RQlfrB8eEfAEf4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#shpCntId
  14. Yeah, but Gate is fun all the same for me. I had a friend in college who ran a pen and paper campaign that mixed technology and fantasy together. I can count the series that I've seen that remind me of those nostalgic days on one hand. It's a rare thing, but it's still nice to see it in practice. I think I'll continue with the anime and avoid spoiling myself with the novels.
  15. I haven't heard anything about Arcadia going anywhere. I think some people are moving to more affordable sources. Both Bandai and Arcadia make good products IMO, so I think everyone can be happy whatever they choose.
  16. Thank you for the added perspective mickyg and Mommar. Yeah. It's worth it to take a step back from the criticism and think about things logically. The new 0S is really looking good. And there's something about the VF-0 design that draws me in–even moreso than the VF-1. I think I'll be picking up all three.
  17. Agreed. Both on XTB Apollyon and Eligos. Overall I'm happy with my V1 copy of XTB's not-Megatron, but now I'm interested in what MakeToys has planned for their version. If this design reduces the kibble inside of the legs and makes for a more sturdy figure, then I may switch. So much about Apollyon is good, but the legs are just a touch too busy (kibble-wise), IMO. I think the one thing that hurt XTB with this release is the variance in each figure. There are those who received good copies, but for those who received poor copies, there seems to be a variety of different issues. Some have problems keeping Apollyon standing, others have problems keeping his arms in place. Me, I think I lucked out. I had one loose rivet on mine, the same loose rivet that emgo had in his video review. And although ChaoticYeti posted a fix for loose rivets in one of the YF-19 threads here on the forums, I have yet to try it out because I haven't been bothered by it that much. I also really like your idea of increasing the arm articulation. TT could probably implement something similar to what was done with Optimus or Ultra Magnus if they do get around to a V2 official release.
  18. Thanks for the links, Loop. I wouldn't have known that with just relying on the amiami pics and without reading the replies in this thread. More markings will be an overall improvement in any case...
  19. IMO, while the 0D and 0S is a good comparison for showing other differences, it is an apples to oranges comparison for this, which I think is what most forum members want: The Arcadia 0S (quoting wmkjr's post): And a similar angle taken of the Yamato 0S from amiami: My first thought is, I hope the retail Arcadia 0S gets all those markings. The white? I'm not worried about it if the color ends up being that close to the Yamato version.
  20. I think TT is going for a hybrid toy/toon look for Thundercracker. IIRC, the G1 toy had a black nose cone. But I agree on passing. I think only die-hard collectors and fans of MP-11 will go for the repaints. Hopefully, the upper torso fits together nice and tight.
  21. Can't wait to see Roy in that 0S cockpit.
  22. Thanks, azrael. That's the process I remember from my XP/Debian days. As for the licensing stuff, I'm probably overthinking it. I haven't moved to virtual machines at home yet, but I couldn't do without them here at work. Some of the doc software that I use needs a dinosaur on a treadmill to run, and a virtual machine is the best support for that scenario.
  23. I was confused by something Gundam@ESEF wrote: If Bandai wanted to make a modern update to some VF-1 toy, couldn't they do so by getting a license from Big West/Satelight or whomever they need to ask? Or couldn't any other Japanese manufacturer for that matter? I was wondering what it was that HG has to do with localized toy development in Japan. I thought HG was only mucking up the international rights. But you make a good point bringing up Mospeada and Southern Cross. I would like to see someone tackle new toys for those series too.
