VF-4G plus limited edition Arcadia stand for 70000 yen? I'm looking forward to a better fit in a few areas, as others have stated. And I'll keep wishing that this leads to something more for the 4G in the future, because why not?

I've seen it again too, and I plan to pick up the blu-ray when it's released. The second time I went with a group instead of going alone, which made for a different experience. And...I take back some of what I wrote above. The movie does stand on its own to multiple viewings. The whole idea is a fun success story for Andy Weir (the original author). It's also neat watching Damon playing out the stranded astronaut again. And my litmus test for any book to movie adaptation is this: does the movie make me want read the book again? Jackson did that with Lord of th Rings, even with its cuts and errors. He didn't do that with the Hobbit. Scott, I'm glad to say, has done that with The Martian.

Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary
technoblue replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The way I see it, GB2 and BttF2 both failed because they kept to the same formula. Weaver's character, Dana, ends up going back to the Ghostbusters again to ask for help which sets the stage for the second story. I don't see any evolution in the writing for GB2. I see it as a comedy pun that Ramis and Aykroyd made using the same tropes from the first film. But this time, instead of Gozer and a haunted hotel the audience got Vigo and a haunted painting. Instead of Rick Moranis's lovable, goofy character that gets possessed along with Weaver's character, we got Peter MacNicol as the human antagonist. And instead of a marshmallow man and "crossing the streams" we got the statue of liberty covered in purple goo... Even so, I could probably watch it again. I was more disappointed in BttF 2.- 55 replies

Agreed. They are cute and funny. I'm trying to decide if I should go traditional and pick up Nendo Batman to pair with the Joker. I didn't get Batman on release. But I also have half a mind to pair Joker with Celty from DRRR!!, even though it means crossing the streams.

Definitely. Some expensive months are ahead.

Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary
technoblue replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
LoL! I dunno... For me, it felt way out of sync with the other two. The second film replaced the actors for two obvious characters: Marty's Dad and girlfriend. The make-up wasn't as good, and having MJF play almost every member of his future family was just too ridiculous. I know part of the charm of BttF is the comedy, and the first movie was smart about it. The second movie just decided to be dumb. I also thought that stupidity bled into the predictions of the future, making BttF's version of 2015 lame. One could argue that those lame predictions were pretty accurate but the flip side of that is the movie lost some of its entertainment value for me. BttF is something that could stand the test of time, IMO. If BttF were done today, I'm not sure that much would change. But if BttF II and III were done today, they would be two totally different comedy/adventure films. Personally, I would like to see more Doc Brown, more flying cars, and more flying car traffic jams (which Doctor Who ended up pulling off beautifully in New Who). And, if future Biff "the gangster" needs to be a thing, then he needs to have more of a point. I think that's why I like the third film and go easy on it: even though it was still goofy, it brought back much of what I thought was missing in the second.- 55 replies

I'm about to place a pre-order on my second copy too. Although William makes fair points, I'm not a Metal Gear Solid fan but I have paid $$$ for other mecha like MegaHouse's Hi-Spec Orguss. For me, the VF-0S ranks in the same league. I also appreciate how it looks better and better with each new image, and I could use a second copy for the reactive armor.

Uh oh. Would that make the VF-4G a false holy grail? Grail Knight: Yamato chose poorly. Arcadia chose ...

I sure hope so. Regardless of what is or is not hard to get, I wouldn't mind seeing the 4G Skull Squadron schemes that were posted earlier or some other new paint scheme to mix things up.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
technoblue replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Nice. I've been watching Steins;Gate again on blu-ray. There are nuances in those first 11 episodes that I completely missed my first time through, but I do get what you mean about the slow build up. Boy, though, that build up is so worth it. -
Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary
technoblue replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Neat. I wonder if there will be any video or audio improvements when compared to the 25th anniversary release? No, the first is the best, but I do give the third movie some leeway since it has a time traveling steam engine. The second is best forgotten.- 55 replies

Macross 7【VF-22S Sturmvogel II Miria Custom】1/60 Yamato

Haha! Fair enough. For me, those scenes were one of the many nostalgia treats in the M7 series. -

Methinks you should watch some episodes of M7 again. It wasn't as open and shut as you remember. Max and Miria were at their best when they were flying together. ;-) -

It's a sign. I think Bandai is going to milk the Regult mold.

Hot Rod's chest is blocky compared to MP-9 and I wonder why Takara went with fixed thumbs on Shock/Laserwave's removeable fists? Other than that, I really like both of these and I'll be putting in my pre-orders in as soon as N-Y or HLJ puts them up.- 16669 replies

Cool. I bought Yamato's 4G earlier this year, but I would be in for another no matter the paint scheme.

How does this even conjugate with what GMK wrote? He didn't mention wanting to see the whole book on film, he was disappointed by the fact that the theatrical version uses a poor "time passes" substitue to skip scenes that he liked. A number of films do this, and I think it is a fair criticism. Perhaps the retail release will include a director's cut that adds some of those scenes back in?

Wut? I thought that was one of the better Bandai pre-orders to date. Kudos to those who thought ahead and bought multiples. I was too tired to think straight. Otherwise, I would have bought the two I wanted out of the gate. I don't know when pre-order shaming became a thing, but I think I'm going to start buying five of everything and then when people complain about multiples I'll just post HIGH FIVE repeatedly to those threads. Seriously, though, there will be more Regult pre-orders...and then the regular orders will come too. Patience works well in this case.

I picked one up at CDJ for now. Will probably pick up number two later if pre-orders are still available or (more realistically) around release day.

The computer and electronics super geek thread
technoblue replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The highlighted bit is the most curious to me. A printer's error message is specific to printer functionality and shouldn't crash a PC. For instance, one of the common HP inkjet printer errors is the Ink System Failure message and this is usually posted to the display with a note to turn the printer off and then on again in an attempt to reset the printer. Since the computer is also acting up, you may want to ask your Dad for very detailed steps on how he set up the PC once he got it in hand. Best case, it could be that the printer was connected to a new USB port and was trying to reinstall its drivers, and that process somehow failed and corrupted Windows at the software level. A system restore "should" help in this case. Worst cast, is a hardware failure as azrael noted. This could be the result of a loose connection, a power spike that randomly fried something, the printer giving up its ghost or any number of things...
