WORST Sci-Fi TV series of all time.....
technoblue replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I wouldn't say it was that bad. You have to remember this was an MTV thing from the first half of the 1990s--soaked in pop-culture and impotent heroes. But I preferred The Maxx, myself.- 279 replies

I don't know who you guys are arguing with at this point. Maybe Macross World should have a debate forum?

No problemo. In case you have a guitar pick hanging about, dwc showed that will do the job. In case you have a spare $5 US, this is the spudger set that I bought from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Professional-iPhone-Screen-Non-abrasive-Spudgers/dp/B00KRO8HO0/ref=sr_1_18/183-8486008-8887705?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1447872615&sr=1-18&keywords=spudger

After looking at the VF-1 parts breakdown above... it seems like a really dumb issue. What does the Yamato version 1 VF-0 hip mechanism look like in comparison? Anyway, I don't think anyone is denying that there is a QC problem. I know I appreciate the details of this discussion and jenius's time bomb description, which is making more sense as more people use their toys and report back. To that end, I've ordered some plastic prying (spludge) tools for the repair if/when the legs on mine go.
-
It doesn't make sense that Mr. K would lie about the problem. I think what Tochiro wrote is probably closer to the truth. On Twitter, people casually ask for details, or answers to questions that are not supposed to be public knowledge. Mr. K has to balance the subtlety of sharing what he can with the fact that there are customers who have expensive broken toys. The best that we can do is to rely on the reviews of the VF-0S and verify that the fixes are good and the quality has improved. Apart from that, we should do what Gakken recommended, and look to the retailers. If more of them had customer-friendly return policies, then Arcadia would have a better sense of these issues, as well.

Sorry to read about the broken leg, David. That really sucks. I've been dutifully scared into transforming my 0A tonight. Mine survived this test transformation from fighter to gerwalk to battroid. I looked at the sockets in the leg while carefully twisting and pulling at them to get a feel for any funny business. No breaks as yet. One side looks good and clean; the other side looks like it has some residue. I don't know what to think of that. I didn't notice any residue on my 0D.
-
Gotcha. It probably would be better to have a trusted source give a more detailed description of the problem, then.
-
Using the machine translator, Mr. K's response is pretty clear: "Might have been caused by the individual." It's a bold statement, becuase I don't think anyone is intentionally "hulking out" and stressing that joint to its breaking point. I'm still unclear as to why those parts aren't set properly with adhesive. And it isn't just those parts. Other plastic on die-cast parts are prone to popping off on the new VF-0 Valkyries. It makes me wonder about the glue Arcadia is using. And it also reminds me of Arcadia's VF-1 reissues: there were reports of adhesive failures on those too (with fins and stuff falling off). I don't think it means much at this point, but I'm just speculating on possible causes...
-
This is looking bad for Arcadia. And now I wonder, maybe jenius is right and the new VF-0 Valks are time bombs? This also reminds me that I haven't checked my 0A - just too busy this weekend.

Again, drill and pin. But you need a pin vise, some good adhesive and some drill bits that will allow you to work with the plastic that needs fixing. Also, you will need a pin or a paper clip or some other piece of thin metal that you can fashion as a support to hold the plastic together. The pin that you create replaces the plastic tab and should make for a stronger connection. Here's the first link that I found with a simple Google search (see method #2): http://figurefixer.blogspot.com/2012/08/generic-action-figure-repairs-two.html If you also search the Macross World forums for pin vise, which is a hobby tool, you will find plenty of modelers using this technique in their builds: https://www.google.com/search?q=pin+vise+site%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fwww.macrossworld.com%2Fmwf%2F&oq=pin+vise+site%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fwww.macrossworld.com%2Fmwf%2F&aqs=chrome..69i57.20727j0j8&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8#q=%22pin+vise%22+site:http:%2F%2Fwww.macrossworld.com%2Fmwf%2F Hope that helps! Edit: Changed the second link to a google search link, but you can get similar results if you use the advanced forum search to look for posts with the term pin vise.

Ah. I might look into that then. I've only seen the first Harry Potter film. Same with the Hunger Games. I've read the first book and watched the first movie, but haven't done much with the rest.

I didn't really know anything about Daredevil, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first season and will be watching the next. Because of how well that all went, I'll take a risk on Jessica Jones. I'm also curious to see David Tennant play a villain.

If any of mine break down the road, then I'll take a deep breath and attempt the fix that has been posted. If that doesn't work, well...I guess shame on me for buying three of these $300 toys. In that case, I'll probably swear off Arcadia until they show a QC improvement that matches the price they're asking us to pay. But like Lolicon alluded to above, there are other more important things to keep in mind. I'm getting old, so I move on.
-
I don't know. No one is trying to prove a bias here. At least, that isn't my intent. The only thing I think people would like to know is how many forum members have broken VF-0 Valkyries. The issues I've run into are minor: misaligned tampo printing and one thruster detail falling off from inside one of my 0D's feet. Understandable. My point is that there are members here who are happy to help out if an issue is fixable. For example, a pin vise is useful for drilling out broken tabs so that you can replace them with stronger bits. I learned that from a few of the modeling guys, and I was able to succeed in completing a similar repair to my MP Ultra Magnus some months back. The thigh looks and works great now.
-
Everyone should go take a look at ChaoticYeti's poll before panicking. It sucks that there is a QC issue, but to say that it is widespread is probably something of a witch hunt. My 0D is okay. I transformed it between all modes the other day and even inspected the ball sockets on the leg/hip joints. It was hard on the nerves since I'm another one who kept my 0D in fighter mode all this time, but I I think it's better to know if I have a broken leg and need Yeti's Shapeways parts or help making the fix. Also, the more data we can get, the better informed we'll be. To that end, I plan to transform my 0A later today and do the same. When my 0S arrives, I'll make sure to check it out on day one.
-
That's cool. Tell us more... jenius: That does suck, but it also gives better information on issues with the new VF-0 toys and HLJ's actual return policy--two things that need more facts than opinion I guess.
-
The 19 Advanced is frustrating. The swing bar on mine was locked down tight and made the first few transformations a pain in the rear. I'd be okay with it if I didn't have to be Thor to move the legs about.
-
NY charges 4700 JPY if you want to ship a VF-0 by EMS. When I bought the VF-0D from HLJ, I was only charged 2980 JPY for EMS. If one was to buy the same Valkyrie from both stores, I think you would save $12 to $14 US at NY given the discount. But, as noted, there are other reasons to stick with HLJ if you are buying from the US.

On the one hand, painted toys do scratch if they are treated like toys. On the other hand, getting a scratch out-of-the box does suck. That happened to me with a Roy VF-1S that I bought and I didn't have the painting skills to fix it on my own at the time. I ended up selling it on the forum to another member who did. The short story is that it all worked out in the end.
-
You could be right. It may be another feature that they are trying to keep secret for the show. And thanks for letting me know that Kawamori-san has had it in mind too. I missed that along the way.

You're welcome, Offswitch! I like your idea for how each of the VF-31 Valkyries could have a pod with a specialized function. Not only would it add a cool gimmick to the show and to the toy, it would be another way to distinguish one Valkyrie from the next.

I didn't mind the morality play in this two parter. I enjoyed the twist at the end, and the fun easter eggs like Doctor Disco, Osgood's side conversations with the Doctor, and well...
