  1. The Nexx reveal is rather exciting to me. I'm anxious to see Sylvie's Valkyrie in person now. If Evolution Toy makes this a fun and durable Macross II transforming toy, then that will will have me coming back to pre-order the SAP bundles. I've been holding back on those this time, waiting to see how the first one rates. But yeah, looking at all three, I think Nexx shows a clear forward progression.
  2. A number of people have moved on from Macross World, but Lupin The Third (Symphogears engaged) decided to do so in an extremely flashy way.
  3. There is a program (multiAVCHD) that should allow you to re-author the disc, keep its menus, add a subtitle track, and preserve PS3 compatibility. But that process is more involved than the one lavinrac posted above.
  4. Errors in unofficial (or fansub) translations are a given. I see this as another opportunity for Satelight to provide official "sanctioned" translations. Even with the current market/legal issues, it should be something that's foremost on the minds of fans outside of Japan. And when they finally figure out a way to do it (without invoking that which should not be named) Macross will have passed its biggest hurdle.
  5. I have no idea how rooster teeth is going to wrap things up after episode 11. That was intense. I'm anticipating a season cliffhanger.
  6. As promised, here are the links to my updated HD screenshots in PNG format. I also made sure to match the frames this time : Max and Kaki on Hikaru's panel: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/160604 Misa waiting for the elevator: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/160605 Minmay and Hikaru: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/160606
  7. The grain and noise are present in both DYRL HD releases. It's pretty obvious in motion when viewing the Minmay/Hikaru scene as noted. And I agree with nhyone. The brightness or colors were tweaked, and there may even be some edge enhancement, but Predator UH Edition-style DNR? No..not a chance. Edit: I'll see what I can do about taking better HD screenshots later this evening in PNG format and linking them to the screenshotcomparison site.
  8. Thanks, nhyone. I didn't mess around with the screenshot feature since it was getting late last night. That's good to know that it can save to other formats.
  9. Below are the three controversial scenes that were mentioned above by takatoys and jet660. I used my computer to take the screenshots. These are not exact frame to frame comparisons, but they are close enough. Each screenshot was saved using the same software: MPC-HC. Comparing the two blu-ray discs, what's immediately obvious to me is the color correction and the detail sharpening. Edit: I wanted to add that MPC-HC saves the screenshots as .jpg files, which is a lossy format. Max and Kaki on Screen 480p (DVD) Max and Kaki on Screen 1080p (Hybrid Blu) Max and Kaki on Screen 1080p (New Blu) All three discs blur the scene with Lisa. The DVD appears better because of the lower resolution on a high resolution display. A more interesting note is the fact that the Perfect Edition DVD is windowboxed, and this creates odd, elongated proportions. I wonder if I missed a setting? Misa waiting on the elevator 480p (DVD Misa waiting on the elevator 1080p (Hybrid Blu) Misa waiting on the elevator 1080p (New Blu) The DVD looks really good for the Minmay/Hikaru scene because MPC-HC is adding a bunch of filters, including denoise. I have no such filters for HD content. Note that in these static images the noise looks like heavy grain. In motion, the noise moves and jumps around. It makes it look as if an old piece of film was spliced in with the rest. Minmay and Hikaru 480p (DVD) Minmay and Hikaru 1080p (Hybrid Blu) Minmay and Hikaru 1080p (New Blu)
  10. Interesting! I caught myself up on those articles. Netflix was convenient, but a BBC America portal could also work if done well. One major benefit would be access to more classic Who episodes. My only concern with it is finding the new access locked behind a cable TV subscription paywall.
  11. Are the usual warnings actually showing up on Netflix in the US? I was reading mixed reports stating that some shows like Faulty Towers and Red Dwarf were not renewed, but other shows like Doctor Who, Luther, and so on were renewed. Netflix tends to do licensing renewals around this time, and this generated similar confusion last year. Still, it's dumb that Canada and the UK have no restrictions whereas the US is left with this song and dance between Netflix and (I assume) BBC America.
  12. What the hey, hey...I gave DYRL a quadruple dip. I think the first version I bought was some oddly translated VHS release back in the day.
  13. Comparing RTD and The Moff, I preferred Davies as the show runner. I think Moffat has had clever ideas, but his ideas have had increasingly poor execution. I do think that he has probably been on a couple seasons too long when considering the last season with Capaldi. But before that, it was the Impossible Girl arch where I really started to notice the flaws. Mostly because I was expecting the Moff to do something tragic with Clara, giving us a the opportunity to see a more thee-dimensional companion who does something to help the Doctor (more like Catherine Tate's Donna). Instead we got that horribly confusing raven episode and all the episodes that came after breaking the show's own rules. At the end of the day, Moffat's run reminds me of John Nathan-Turner's run during Classic Who. It started strong, with a strong cast and strong ideas, and then that momentum slowed over time. The silver lining here is that Moffat seems to know when to take a bow and let someone new take his place, unlike JNT. I don't know what to expect from Chibnall. Broadchurch season 1 was excellent for a police crime story. Season 2 was good, but a bit more melodramatic. Chibnall has written some New Who episodes, so it will be interesting to see how he takes that experience, combining it with his Broadchurch experience, and applies it to a full season of Who. As usual, Doctor Who is all about change.
  14. Bumping the thread to share some (old) news. Three-Zero's 1/6 scale Yang Xiao Long is now up for pre-order. BBTS http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=THZ10063&mode=retail HLJ http://www.hlj.com/product/thz92062 And this will complete Team RWBY. Of all the characters, I wish Yang had come with an interchangeable aggressive face to match her action poses. The standard straight (or Penny-like) face makes her seem as if she's working out in a Remnant gymnasium. It'll be a challenge to work with.
  15. All good things could happen...eventually. It would be nice if the original creators and some of the old fans were alive to see these hypotheticals come true.
  16. You may be thinking of the earlier hybrid pack releases, which do not include subtitles. The hybrid packs are still available from some stores on-line. For instance, cdjapan: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/BLJS-93001 http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/BLJS-93005
  17. The time notation is probably a typo. According to macross.jp, the amazon LE releases all have an exclusive slip case. (amazon.jp notes the same: a 3-way back case...odd google machine translation)

Yeah, dwc is spot on correct. Mommar, I think cdjapan defaults to the shipping method that you choose for your account. You can change this during check out if you want to. I did the same as dwc and went with registered SAL. Registered airmail was also available.

I placed my pre-order at cdjapan this morning and immediately received an e-mail confirmation. Thought I'd share some good news for other late arrivals. For me, I wasn't going to be able to do the late-night shenanigans this time.
  20. Right, and on a much greater scale. It's interesting that for Macross Delta they go as far as to animate how things are changing at a cellular level (showing the transition from calm to chaos/rage). I wonder if that was merely for affect or if it will come into play as a plot point later on?
  21. I think this is a very good point. The Zentraedi were mentioned because the Aerial Knights main attack was concentrated around their base. At least, that was implied by the subs. If that translation is close, then the Var syndrome outbreak that occurred right before the knights' assault was probably strategic. And that could mean that the Var syndrome is more of a fold(?) weapon that works on all living targets. Similar to how the Protodevlin's spiritia weapon worked on all living targets. Pretty nasty, spooky stuff if true.
  22. Off topic, but I only remember a couple of the armed guards getting brainwashed outside of Myung's control area. I admit that it could be my own fuzzy memory working against me. I've been meaning to pop Macross Plus in to watch it again. The images from the Macross (in Plus) that stick out in my mind are of the bridge crew ignoring their stations and zoning out to Sharon's tunes. I don't remember the AI needing any people at that point. Sharon had completely taken over the defense grid, confined Myung in all the power/media cables, all while stealing that drone fighter to chase after Isamu.
  23. Why segregate entertainment for men and women (or boys and girls for that matter)? That makes no sense in today's world, especially given that Macross has been getting more inclusive with each new series. I do think it's fantastic that a short preview episode can get so much of the fandom freaking out, though. Waiting on this new series is like waiting on a new score from a talented composer or songwriter. Everyone is eager to make it their own.
  24. Flying through a missile cloud at high speed and not being damaged at all is sort of cool, if a little fantastic. ; ) I may have to watch M+ again, but I don't remember Sharon Apple's AI voodoo working the same way as the Var Syndrome. IIRC, she was the one hacking into every system and fighting Isamu and Guld. The one parallel I do see is that Sharon's music did pacify anyone who could potentially resist her.
  25. Wow. Different is an understatement. But I do see a lot of potential (to me eye, there are elements of Macross II, Macross 7, and AKB0048 in the mix). It will be interesting to see how things look a few more episodes in. For now, I'm going to keep my opinions on this new Macross series in neutral.
