I think there's one around here somewhere. Needs alot of work though... Not a priority at the moment because if anytime, it will come late in the mod.
-
Ok, in answer to your questions. Don't worry, the VF-1 just looks shiny due to the lighting in 3D Studio MAX, it's just a render, and will not look like that in the real game, which has independant lighting. The engines I'm going to model after the VF-0 in Zero whilst glowing. As for texture quality in game, yes, that's the level of detail they will have, or at least, at LOD0. Most of them are about 1000 polys wide. Opps... I meant pixels. Sorry, just got up...

Actually, I like the way things are going at the moment. For now, I find it less time consuming to start from scratch than if I have a base model that has already been mapped. From a third person perspective, it was alot easier to sacrifice polys, though I too have reached a stump - I can't bare to take any more off, even though I was aiming for 800. I'll make up for this by modelling lower poly fast packs. There's something wrong with the tail, but I've got access to some transformation specs nanashi sent me years ago so I'll use those to make it transform alright. Things are looking good for the mod, even without ruak.

I've been working on the VF-1... way too high in the polygons. I could only get it down to about 1070 polys, but I think it started on 1400, so that's pretty good eh? I'm working on making it fully transformable, and geting the textures to look right. Here's a shot in progress. There are a few places that need to be made '3d'.

Looking good. Though you need to discover the 'smooth group'! Texture's coming along nicely. Now if only we could get all this into gear and get it ingame.

I modelled the Nupetiet Vergnitzs also and trust me, it's big enough. The meltohlauendy version is alot wider, and it appears smaller. Besides, we know a ship as small as the medium-scale-gundestroyer can fire a powerful beam, and in general the meltohlauendy mecha appear to be of a better quality to than the zjentohlauedy (just look at the queadluun rau). I think it's fine for the purposes.

And finally completed... Note, I've added in an extra detail. The lower hull can lower to reveal a buster cannon, much like that of the Nupetiet Vergernitzs, as it is something that would be necessary for the Meltohlauendy flagship. There's nothing to suggest it exists, but there's nothing to say it cannot - there are lines on the hull that could accomidate a recessed buster beam. Anyway:

Ahh... my baby... you do have the version with the 3d wings, right?!?
-
Btw fans, the Major's pics look dark because of the exporter he's using to render them. They're not as dark in reality.
-
To keep further interest, this is what the future holds for the mod: A compilation shot of all my Meltohlauedy ships for HW2 (not ingame yet).
-
There is no complete surface imagery for that ship, that's for certain, but there isn't for any macross ship either... All I could suggest is checking out the TIAS books for macross. Otherwise, put out a request in a new thread for source material.

I don't know what you're all whining about, it was brilliant, amazing. Blew me away. I think macross zero is a natural evolution from the direction macross 7 was headed. I simply loved that we finally got to see the protoculture's own mecha, and boy was it worth while. The zjentoholauedy are all flying Fokker Dr.I's compared to the protoculture's f-22s. The ending was traditional - open ended, and I thought very appropriate. I think what we're seeing at the end of the episode with Focker is the actual cause of his alcoholism. The fold scene was excellent, and the thing you people don't seem to get is that in Macross, magic IS real. Deal with it. There had to be magic involved for ONE ship to stop millions of enemy ships. i.e. it wasn't minmay's singing, it was the magic of her singing. Soundtrack took a turn towards excellent. Highly appropriate. Dogfights are unparrelleled by any macross episode ever, including macross plus. The sense of tragedy when they whip out the reaction warheads really sinks in, and what can I say? MONSTER! Who knows, maybe the megaroad ran into shin and sara. I reckon they're headed for the centre of the galaxy - and the last surviving protoculture.

I think you're thinking of the Zjentohlauedy Picket Ship (or Scout ship). It's 500 m. It fits the description you've set. But it's definately not a cruiser. Not even in Robotech.
-
Well, actually, it shows some examples to scale, and there are models in there of a good 11" or more.
-
Fair enough. I guess to me it looks strange because it's a collage, so you expect to see consistancy. However, I do see how you're coming from. Keep up the good work. There's hardly any flashback artwork.

Misa, the Lightning and Hikaru look awesome. Personally, I especially like Hikaru's flight suit. Minmei was looking hot in the preview, but there's something not right about her head. I think it could be something to do with the eyes having no black in them. It feels incomplete in that part of the picture. Maybe the mouth's just a little big too, I can't put my finger on it. Sorry to be the prick to criticise. I love the work otherwise. Just constructive criticism. Keep it up.

Actually, that's a grey area. If you take a photograph of a painting, you own the copyright to the photograph, but not to the painting itself. See, so technically, he owns the scans, since he made them. Of course, Big West and studio Nue, who own the copyrights of the designs in the scans have a right to request their removal, but for all intents and purposes, those scans do belong to Nanashi Windjammer. Without a DOUBT, his translations belong to him. He has paid for them to be done, which means that he then owns the copyright. As they are a translation, and not the original material, he owns the copyright to them, and you could not otherwise see them. As for accusations that I'm worshiping nanashi. No I'm not. He's a friend, and very amicable. For your information, I use MSN or ICQ to talk to him, not email, which is far more effective. I know it could be seen that nanashi is being anti about his materials. Sorry to tell you though, they are his, and he has a right to ask that you don't distrubute them. As for Jester, your comments imply that you were expecting nanashi to answer those questions when it is clearly apparent that you have insulted him, at least to any other reader perhaps you yourself. If you do not think that is the case, that's fine, but others do, so I wouldn't expect an answer anytime soon. -

...yeah... and you... ugh... wonder why? (yes that was sarcasm) I might suggest you appologise to Nanashi first if you expect to get a response out of him. -
As for modellers, when he says low poly, we mean it... Fighters - 800, corvettes, 1200, frigates 1800, etc. Nothing big here. And I think that's one of the reasons this project will take off. I had too much on my plate to be team leader. Major is heaps better for the project.
-
The simple fact is, the project has always been held back by the engine. I suppose it would be better to look at it this way: Now we know what we're doing. And we're doing stuff the rest of the Homeworld community hasn't even dreamt up yet! We've got a ton of models that can be put in in the meantime without too much effort, but really, our best work is yet to come. We just don't have the restrictions of the first game. We even can play as many races as we want and can have a proper single player campaign. We aren't bound by homeworld's restrictive ship lists or research trees. The coolest thing is having multiple missile types, proper ammunition limitations, etc... I love it... And I've had some ideas how to feasibly add in hardpoints. It's an awesome time for the mod. Like was mentioned, we're not paid for this, and my real life can easily catch up with me. Not to mention, when you're unpaid, you really have to be in the mood to be productive. Or at least I do.

Heh... sorry about that... There wasn't much I could do about it really... I was six weeks without a phone line to start, yet along internet.
