Look at it this way. how Often did you see Luca's Ship damaged and how often did you See Alto's ship damaged. It might have to deal with more of that instance than it does with anything else. Or the fact that its the Artist choice on how to draw their work.

Actually you can round out a model and have it look good with out being 100k. Honestly your getting to a point where the human eye on average doesn't pick up the extra detail. Heck the VF4 he has a screen of is the one I made and it is 2880 polygons. Now I can make it look a lot better now with the extra experience I have and fix a bunch of visual features and still come out lower then that. The VoXP team has rebuilt the model with an even lower poly count and it looks fantastic because of the texture work. It takes a lot of talent to model a low poly model and have it look right. And those guys and Ancient Angel are some of the best Modelers I have seen on Poly Budget modeling. And I have worked in the game industry and know quite a few great modelers. And these guys are one the same level if not some what ahead of them. But like I said the Model has to fit the need and we the MMO group don't need high poly models. like this one This model only has 2022 polygons and is a great looking model because of the Texture

well then you have games like WOW and they are running low poly's and it really does now depend on hardware and game engine what level of poly's you need. As for Ancient and I we are working on a MMO with a huge map. When its done it will be maybe 100mill poly count but we want to keep our models at low level. More poly's also don't mean better models. Its just more stuff to worry about to go wrong in a lot of cases. More Z fighting more points of bend and rotation that can be pushed out of position. Lots of other little details. But telling us to update our software and change to his program is pointless if we want to run high level of Poly's I would switch to my 3D max program. But I am really used to and comfortable with Milkshape3d and it does what I need it to do. Changing a learning a new program to do the same models I currently do is kinda of pointless. More like time wasted. And based on our custom built game engine and our modeling needs we still run lower poly counts to help maintain the game play level we want. Having the potential of having 1million players on one map makes this more of a requirement.

Actually Milkshape can do all that and is Set for Bump Mapping and is quite easy. Not to mention it does have a 3D_Max setup about it. Blender is still to buggy for my taste. So try not to bash it to much. It is maintained and updated all the time as well. It may only have a max poly setup of 50k but since there is no need to go past 20k for game models then its completely fine. Not to mention its quite easy for people to learn it. And a lot of games with mass area renders use lower count poly's to help with multiplayer performance. Try a stress test of say 24 people in a fully mapped level and see how much performance lag there can be.

Nice Models there really like the Zent ship there. I need to make a low poly Game version of that ship and was wondering if you can make some screen shots of it from different angles? By the way those models you have shown are awesome, and I wanted to restated that because they are but I was wondering what kind of texturing are you going to do just a basic wrap or are you going to also add bump mapping?

Announcing Macross Aria: a CGI fan film project

I might be able to pull up some models not sure have too look. What level of model would you like to have. I can probably get anywhere from 1k to 3k model, depending on my current inventory. Lately I have been working on location stuff on a game I have been working on so I don't have much of that stuff. But one of the locations I am working on is a downed zent cruiser. One will be nose in and one will belly down. -

well you can learn alot about 3dmax by Turbosquid's program which is built by the same people and its limited in file types but it gives you more experience with 3dmax type setup.

it really depends on what quality you are going for. If you want free you always have a few like Blender and Wings 3d also if you want to get used to complex and larger you might want to check out the TurboSquid website for its program as well. If you want to make low poly game models you want a program that has a lot of tools as well. I prefer Milkshape3d which has lots of tools and features and allows you simple interface. If you want complex and expensive then I would say maya or 3DMax

Looking good. Though I hope that the models will have more animation to them. Like having them go into posses when you turn left or right and up and down or tuck in to spin type thing. They seem very lifeless at this time. Also I hate lines and stuff for downloading video so I added the file to my site so others can just DL it faster. http://www.rtfanfilms.com/Vajira_Attack.avi

The good thing about a 3d model is that once its done its easy to change stuff on it. Plus it is helpful for a person to look at a 3d object and really see more aspects to add or subtract or change. I think that the current design is awesome and I am basing my desire to build a model off of the current design because I like it so much.

actually the head is the least of my worries. For the most part all the proportions are different then from the actual. So I have to adjust and stuff like that. Maybe if you grabbed the VF1 line arts and redid those that would be great. But I will have it figured out shortly. The nose design actually I think fits better then the original for adding the head so the head is not a big deal I just follow the natural progression of the curves

Just a little update. I got a good start on the model and I am referencing some older models for the common components. I only noticed one thing that might not make it work right and that is the wings when they are tucked back behind the back. But I have not yet gotten that far. I am also hoping to make all the armor too. Also when I get done with the model I will also upload the PSD file of the texture so you can change it edit it and what not. I will also see about animating the model as well. But all in all this is just a start with some guide marks in place I still have a long way to go. Many a details as well. Right now it will be a low poly render as well. I might switch to max later and do some serious detailing. Ohh also if you can make a cockpit design or do some updated designs for it that would be great I can try to model that as well and stick that in too.

yea sorry about that but most of those aircraft are no longer in existence. Those are all from WWII. But they give a lot of ideas and thinking of soldiers in Air Combat. So I figured it would be at least a good reference site.

ahh you cant give up on art just like that. I found that almost everyone can draw if taught how to over come their difficulties. I had an art teacher that use to figure out what part of art was holding people back. Most of the time it was either scale perception or depth perception, and with others it was shadows and shading. But he would have students that shouldn't have had a chance at drawing become very talented artist. Sometimes you just have to figure out whats holding you back and overcome it. Ohh yea and practice practice practice.

I really Like your VF design update. I think it looks really good and more well more updated lol. I hope you can produce a few pictures and layouts of every thing on it and detail pics of the extras. I would kinda of like to try to make it a 3D render model.

another Update, I have finished or almost finished depending on input of others of the skull. I will start the special effects of the picture soon and begin putting the sizes needed for phones. So Far I have 128X128, 146X176, 176X220, and 320X240 is there any other sizes?

Well I am going at it again. I am trying to build the main skull from scratch and got this thus far. Note its not complete but I like to get opinions on things. I still have to do shading and such but I was going for the basic outline right at the moment.

Sorry about the delay guys I have been really busy with work and stuff but I have begun working on the project again. I have been trying to find a Nice skull and Large skull to use as well. I Really haven't found any like the original one I took from the series but I have modified some of the others I have been seeing on here. Just to give a preview of it now and get some opinions before I add all the animation to it and effects for the SMS phone pics and maybe even a desktop as well.
