Oh yeah, here's a disturbing thought... Apollo's brother Zack, who was killed in a training accident in the newer series, instead of being blown to bits by the Cylons of the older show, was actually humping Starbuck. I guess they had to make a male version of Athena. All of the saluting in the show made me feel as if I were back in the Marines. The CAG reference Starbuck gave to Apollo was way to Navy-like. All of the military references made me feel as if I were watching Top Gun in space. I also miss the increments of time and distance they used, such as centons, yarens, and microns. The space battles were cool, though. That much I will admit. The updated Cylons were cool, but the Raiders looked way too much like the droid fighters of the Trade Federation what with the glowing red eye thing on the hull. Making Baltar an unfortunate sap who was being used by the Cylons was crazy, when he was obviously power mad in the old show. Jolly, another of the main characters from the original show was blown away in the first part. The absence of Athena. She was hot. The chick-Boomer is now a Cylon agent and does not realize it. And what happened to Cassiopeia? Will Starbuck fall in love with a man-whore named Cassopeia And a lot of the people on Caprica that were fleeing the nuclear nightmare were wearing flannel shirts. Rednecks and grunge people unite! (By the way, I wear flannel shirts, so don't start anything.) While I thought the second part of the show was better than the first, I still did not like it. The original show was mediocre at best, but it was still better than the remake in my opinion.

Hey wait a minute! Lufy was a way cooler chick than the butch Starbuck could ever be! And she is an actual woman, not a man who became a woman.

Well, I haven't seen any posts yet on the Sci-Fi Channel's abhorrently awful remake of Battlestar Galactica. I hated it. I felt like I was watching a badly done movie about US Navy fighter jocks in outer space. And the image of the female Starbuck chomping on a cigar and acting like a man was really disturbing. And Apollo was an a**hole. And Starbuck was not the only one to have undergone a sex change. Boomer turned into a hot chick. And here I thought that nothing could get worse than the second season of Space: 1999... Others out there may have liked it and could probably offer a better critique, but I for one am glad to call myself a purist of the older series and admit that, while it was corny at times, I loved it. And where the hell was Athena?

The Hong Kong DVD bootleg is a direct rip of the original Japanese laserdiscs. These commercials were on the laserdiscs also. If you've noticed, most of the items advertised were for Bandai products, as Bandai provided the main financial support for the creation of the series. I'm also sure that most of the items shown were bogus, but I could be wrong. It's really not an easter egg, but another elaborate in-joke of sorts that Gainax loved to put into this series. Gunbuster is full of them.

Actually, it's holding up remarkably well. I heard about the problems with this set a while back, but so far mine is okay. I also bought the extended version of The Abyss when it came out and it is still working fine.

I may pick this up as it's the only way to get the director's cut of the first film. I missed it when it was released here in Annapolis. I have the extended version of Aliens on laserdisc when it was released as a box set. I really loved this movie and it is my favorite. I refused to sit through Alien 4, and the third one was okay. Kind of...

Do not know if anyone posted this yet, but I came across this on Anime News Network's front page.

Yes! More Karinka! Bring her on! And boy am I glad they got rid of the ponytails. And speaking of the soundtrack to the first series, I'd have to agree with you there. I really like the background music. And once I hear that opening song, it's stuck in my head for a month. Hmm... Christmas is coming. Time to drown out the sound of carollers.

Better than Macross (in my opinion).
Noriko Takaya replied to Daishi3500's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maxim Magazine interviewed Tarantino and asked him the same question, I think. It had something to do with his previous work on Resevoir Dogs. I'm sure someone out there will correct me if I'm wrong. Now the next question is, "Why is a 38 year-old man reading Maxim Magazine..." -
Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
Noriko Takaya replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Hey! As bad as that movie is, it's actually one of my favorite senselessly violent flicks. And no, I do not like MD Geist. However, it's not sci-fi related, but that movie, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, was like having a really BAD case of hemmorhoids. By the way, I also liked Battle Beyond The Stars as a kid, but when I saw it recently I had to kick myself. Although, I think it would be great to fly around the universe in a ship with breasts on it. -
Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
Noriko Takaya replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
My pick would be the movie Terrorvision. It was a really lame 80's horror sci-fi movie about a monster that is beamed down into a family's home through their new satellite dish. The monster eventually eats all of them. -
THE NEW GALACTICA VIPER!*SPOILER*
Noriko Takaya replied to Sarensaas's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
While the new Viper looks nice, I am partial to the older version. It just looks a lot better if you ask me. -
I saw this godawful thing back in the 80's when it was first released. I never made it half way through. And I will never bother to watch it again. By the way A7, please do not associate US Manga Corps with the initials USMC. You're gonna make people out there unfamiliar with this f---ed up company that the Marines are making crappy animation. Otherwise, I just may have to dust off my 782 gear and clean my SAW and perform an amphibious operation to take out US Manga Corps... Another thing A7, I remade the banner you use for your Gunbuster page. If you want it you can go HERE

Here's a simple one. It's a two parter. In the original Dominion Tank Police, what was Buaku and his two cat girlfriends after in the first half of the series? What kind of traps did Buaku use to try and throw off the Tank Police? *Thinking* "Am I the only one who has this crappy show and has actually watched it?"

Martian Successor Nadesico Prince of Darkness
Noriko Takaya replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yay! More Nadesico! Can't wait. Adding it to Christmas list. -
The name Tannhauser as referring to the term Tannhauser's Gate in the Gunbuster Science Lessons is also a Blade Runner based reference made by Roy Batty just before he died at the end of the movie. And I quote: "I've watched sea beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate..." Also, just for general information, there seem to be three American films which seem to be prevalently influent in anime, especially during the 80's and early 90's. They are: Blade Runner Alien Raiders of the Lost Ark

Big Trouble In Little China.

Halloween is one of my favorite John Carpenter movies next to Big Trouble in Little China. And I thought They Live was friggin' hilarious. -
The Adventures of Indiana Jones DVD Boxset.
Noriko Takaya replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I got mine this evening. I had to search through a bunch of them before I found one with the fifth bonus disc. I'm watching Raiders of the Lost Ark right now. I also picked up that new Battlestar Galactica DVD set. If my face were a bit smaller, I could wear that Cylon face as a mask for Halloween... -
Exactly! The moon is still there in orbit. According to Gerry Anderson, the moon was supposed to have blasted out of orbit on September 13, as it did in Space: 1999. Sorry for the off topic remark. Happy belated birthday, Minmay!

Dude, this English language laserdisc is the same awful version that was used to make the insanely funny Clash of the Bionoids. I have a copy of this disc you are talking about somewhere in my pigsty of a basement. I'm gonna have to look for it. Need to laugh at bad voice acting...
-
Dude, you do not know what you are missing then. Consider it HG's fault for not allowing Macross to be dubbed into English and tell the original story without any of Robotech's alterations. I find Macross to be lightyears ahead of Robotech in storyline. Fellow Macross snobs unite! Noriko

I'm not a fan of comedy series, being as my mainstay is more along the lines of action and science fiction. However, I am easily amused. I'll admit I liked the first episodes that were originally released, but the ones which came after were rather boring...

God, I love a woman who owns firearms. I really wish there were more out there who do. As for being paranoid about people stealing my firearms, I have a Magnum series Smith & Wesson gun safe that weighs about 800 lbs and holds about 14 firearms. It's perfect for what I have, and I feel very confident that no a-hole is going to come and steal it. Even if they managed to get it out of the basement, they aren't going to get into it without a plasma cutter or something like that. I get labelled crazy all the time because I own guns. One of my nicknames is "Machinegun Eddie". I tend to not let things people say about my guns bother me. I have friends who hated guns, but have managed to turn into firearms enthusiasts. My collection is rather limited, but I want to share it with you. This is what I currently own: Bushmaster XM15-E2S Standard A2 rifle, 20" barrel with 10 USGI 30 round mags. Springfield Armory Standard M1A rifle with walnut stock. I have three of the 20 round mags to go with it. Heckler & Koch USP45 Remington 870 pump shotgun Colt Anaconda .44 magnum pistol Springfield Armory mil-spec 1911A1 (Just got this one last month) I'm thinking of going shooting this weekend. Who wants to go? Wait, they're calling for rain this weekend in Maryland... -

Great! A subject I love! Oohrah! Guns that I love and which I have actually shot (In the Marines): M16A1 M16A2 M-79 grenade launcher M203 grenade launcher M1911A1 M2 .50 calibre machine gun M60A1 machine gun M249 SAW M-14 M224 60mm mortar Dragon Weapon System SMAW rocket launcher AT-4 rocket launcher M72A2 LAAW rocket launcher 105mm main gun on an M60A1 main battle tank (We didn't have the Abrahms yet. At the time I was going to reenlist in armor and was going to tank school.) Sorry for the bragging... By the way, here's a pic of my favorite. It was, after all, what I carried as a grunt until the day I got out.
