  1. As someone who has lived 20 of his 39 years in Florida, all I can say is good luck to you. I've been through my fair share of hurricanes, and I do not envy any of you who have to go through this. My poor mother, on the other hand, lives in Lake Worth in a retirement community. She was told to evacuated yesterday. She is going to stay with an aunt of mine in Boynton Beach who has a house made out of concrete that was built to stand up in hurricanes. I guess it also helps that it was built during the 50's. Her's was one of only a few houses standing on her street when Andrew came ripping through.
  2. Holy batpoop! I just got an e-mail from Manga Entertainment regarding the Gunbuster license not even five minutes ago! Get this, they (Mike Egan) state that "they have retained the license to Gunbuster and still have the product for sale on VHS, and are currently looking to start production on a DVD edition sometime in the forseeable future." Well, well, well... I wonder what this means for those of us looking for a North American release? Probably not much, because I will not believe it until I see it. It could be that Manga knew all along that Gainax was going to remaster the series and were just waiting to get their hands on a cleaner copy. Who knows?
  3. I don't know what the material was in the August issue, but September's issue of Newtype USA has a two page article on Top O Nerae 2! which is basically nothing more that an English reprint of the article in the July issue released in Japan. However, there is this little statement by director Kazuya Tsurumaki which states that one of his aims in making the series is "to give it a FLCL-ishness.", using his words. If that's any indication of how this show is going to turn out, then maybe I ought to cancel my preorder for the DVD. I can understand a little parody, because that is what made the original Gunbuster so damned great, but if it is going to be a dramatic, hardcore science-fiction series mixed with comedic crack, then I want no part of it. Now where's that little 'puking smilie' when I need it? As an edit to the original post regarding the DIX-ENUF, oops, DIX-NEUF: this particular Buster machine is piloted by Raruku, the greatest TOPLESS pilot Earth has to offer. She is a member of The Fraternity, a group formed to fight the space monsters. She's also a snob and thinks her shee-it does not stink.
  4. First off, if you have not seen this movie, do not read this post. It contains a rather blatant spoiler. I rather liked the new Exorcist movie in my own sort of disturbed way. I can say it was definitely a lot better than the sequels released after the first film, and it does tie in a bit with the first one. The guy who played Father Merrin, Stellan Skarsgård, gives a very good performance in my own opinion. However, here is where I am going to gripe. It is well stated in the book and the screenplay which were both written by William Peter Blatty that the first run in Father Merrin had with the demon Pazuzu was in the body of an 8 year-old African boy. The politically correct yahoos we have in Hollywood today could not handle that kind of fact I guess, which is why we have a demon possessing that hot babe Isabella Scorupco. I'm very interested to see the original version directed by Paul Schrader. If Warner Brothers is smart, they will package this movie with Renny Harlin's version together as a 2 disc set. It would make for some rather interesting comparisons.
  5. Praise be to the holy Froating Head. For He is the bringer of all good things Macross. Sorry, had to throw that in.
  6. There is more likely to be a R1 release of Aim for the Top! 2 on DVD before there is one of the original Gunbuster.
  7. Yeah, I got that one. I'm still kind of pissed at him. And I'll never utter the other's name, even in type.
  8. Well, if Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow does well at the box office, then we will probably be having a lot more retro-future type of stuff around. Personally, I wouldn't mind the updating if they went that route, but I agree with Graham, you cannot beat the 80's version of the movie. Uwe Boll?! UWE BOLL?! I'll wait to see what BloodRayne looks like before I credit him with anything. And I'm not a negative nelly either.
  9. I like Osaka too. She reminds me of myself FAR too often, though. Osaka rules! She is my favorite. And in a way she is a lot like my younger sister, God bless her. I took the test. This is who I am: However, I'm partial to Osaka, and I just wanted to be her. So I will go and stare at the dust behind my eyes now.
  10. Well, the Bladerunner thread brought up another interesting movie of the early 80's called Flash Gordon, the wonderful cheesefest brought to you by those wacky dudes at Dino De Laurentiis. Flash Gordon was one of my favorite movies as a kid because of its campiness; I actually saw it at the theatre during its run. I was sorry to see that you could not get it as a DVD unless you paid extravagant amounts from someone who purchased its original run from Universal. On to the point of this thread. Empire Movies has reported on August 5, 2004: Well, considering how well his last movie did, I'm kind of worried. I did like The Mummy, but when I saw the crap that was Van Helsing, I did not know if I ever wanted to see another of his films. Well, how can you screw up a Flash Gordon movie? It was meant to be cheesy. I'm sure Sommers will find a way. Christ, who will they get to play Princess Aura? I mean, Ornella Muti was very hot back then wearing that outfit of hers (see image), but she's a little too old to be playing her now.
  11. I can't stand the Director's version which cut out Deckard's narration and added this little unicorn scene or whatever. I love the way it was originally released, which is why I still own the Criterion laserdisc. I won't buy it on DVD unless Ridley Scott gets the hair out of his butt about which version is the 'true' version. I think Nightbat was being facetious. Don't even get me going there. I want a newly remastered DVD version of this fine cheesefest. Yeah, sure they released it before, but they stopped printing it after what, one week? Go, Flash, go!! *Runs around cheering and clapping hands in weird manner like Dale Arden*
  12. Well, the description says it all. I am having trouble locating a preorder for next year's Akane Soma calendar (if there is going to be one), and I kind of do not know where to go. I've been using J-List for the past few years, but they seem to have made changes to their site and navigation is kind of sketchy. So, where would be a great site to go to that sells Japanese calendars and also ships to the US? Please let me know.
  13. Provide link, please!
  14. ACK! Sounds like if you change the E and the N around you will have DIX-ENUF for everyone! Perhaps this is Gainax's way of saying that we should just bend over and accept this. If I wasn't so hardcore on seeing how bad the new series is going to be, I probably would cancel my pre-order on the DVD.
  15. For those interested, the Playboy comes out in October, not in September as previously reported. I believe it was something to do with a small majority of the Japanese male population which was staying home prefering to ogle images of female anime and video game characters instead of going out and finding real girlfriends. I remember reading a news story about a while back, and honestly, I could not tell you where I saw it. Maybe someone else out there would know. As far as American males go, I think as a culture, a large majority of us would rather go out and hang with girls than stay at home and dream about pixelated ones. That's just my opinion.
  16. Okay, I started this thread for the sole purpose of reporting any new news on the front relating to my favorite anime series and to alleviate any confusion over past topics. All Gunbuster related stuff should be placed here from now on. The past few months have been busy in regards to Aim for the Top! Gainax has partnered with Bandai once again to produce a sequel to Gunbuster which is slated for release in November of 2004. A lot of buzz has already been generated in these forums because of this, with most of the fans feeling a little disappointed. Only time will tell how this series will come out. I plan on ordering the first DVD from CD Japan to see what it is like, but at something like $30 to $40 an episode I may wait for the bootlegs to finish the series. I will post images from the disc when they are available. The old thread for the Gunbuster 2 debate is: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=7849&hl= The second bit of new news is the release of the Gunbuster Perfect Guide on DVD. It looks as if this set will feature quite a bit on the creation of the first series as well as some items to be found only on the DVD. You can view the original thread about this at http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=9339&hl= or the update at http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=456&hl=. And lastly, there is the eternal (It sure seems eternal) debate over the future of Gunbuster here in North America. While most of Europe and Asia have a release of Aim for the Top! on DVD, we poor Americans have been trying to get the most out of our old US Renditions VHS tapes. Manga Entertainment dropped Gunbuster from its products roster , and it can no longer be found on its site. Rumor has it that they still retain the license to the show, but are refusing to do anything with it because of it being "an older series", to use their words. Those of you who know me on these boards realize how much I care for this series, and how much it pisses me off to see Manga Entertainment keep it locked up in a closet somewhere. So, if any of you out there has any new stuff to post, this is the place to do it.
  17. By the way, I am interested only in REAL WOMEN. I just found it kind of interesting they were doing this in an American magazine. That's probably why I would buy it, just to see what they did, not to get my rocks off (God, my gilrfriend's plenty enough for me as it is.) I realize they have a problem with this in Japan right now as I heard that the birth rate over there is suffering because of stuff like this. I had no idea it was becoming a problem over here as well. As for the new game, I really hope that it comes out decent. That's all I really care about. I was just passing along news from the magazine for those who didn't buy it.
  18. I do not know if any of you out there read the gaming magazine Play, but I had to buy it yesterday when I caught a glimpse of my favorite Dhampir gracing the cover. It has a very interesting article on BloodRayne 2, and from what I have read, it is shaping up to be a great looking game. Some other news that is being released are a premier of a video on MTV2 on September 18th at 9:30 PM EST and 6:30 PM PST featuring Rayne and other BloodRayne 2 characters as they perform a lip-synced version of Evanescence's hit "Everybody's Fool." And another bit of news is a titilating (no pun intended) 'photo' spread of Rayne in Playboy. This ought to have all the fanboys of the game drooling, as this is the first time in the history of a video game where a character is going to be 'filmed' nude. This comes out in early September for those of you out there interested. Me, I'll probably be one of the sicko's out there buying it just to see what it looks like. As for the magazine, here is a copy of one of the pages. The graphics look pretty good, and this is the PS2 version they say. Sorry for the large image size for those of you out there on a modem. I just wanted everyone to get a good look at the page.
  19. I've already got mine on pre-order. As soon as I get it, I will be trying to get images of the book on my site as soon as I can get around to it. I'll also be taking screen captures. If the DVD is worth it, I'll probably give it its own page. If you haven't seen the cover to this set yet, a image is at the bottom. And if it is any consolation to those of you out there who are wary of paying full price for a region 2 disc, I'm sure that a bootleg will be following soon enough. As for halfan's remark, hey bud, this is a Gunbuster thread. And it is the first one. So maybe you should have done a little searching yourself. You know, I have asked Bandai America that same question. As of yet, the only answer I have received from them is that they are looking into it. One can only hope...
  20. I could be wrong, but obviously you haven't gotten far enough into the game to realize who or what Petruger is. By the way, I haven't seen this posted yet, so I'll go ahead and do it. It may be old news. If you would rather find out on your own, then do not read the number at the bottom of the post. go to Martian Buddy and get it yourself. This code is for the locker that this guy wins from Martian Buddy which there is no code for. Here it is... The Code: 0508
  21. It's been publicly stated that Spielberg is making a movie adaptation of the book, and that it will take place during the same time the book did, circa 1898 or whenever. As for this being a remake, I do not think it is. If Spielberg sticks to the book, then it will be the first true adaptation made. George Pal's version was very loosely based off it. The man has made some pretty decent movies in the past and has had a few flops, but if anyone can make a decent adaptation, he can. The movie is slated for release in between 2005-2007, so I'm sure more news will follow. As for the 1953 George Pal version, I liked it as a kid and to this day I still do. Yeah, it's dated, but it is basically an entertaining flick. As for the 1988 television series War of the Worlds, the first season was the only one of the two seasons which was any good, despite its cheese factor. (Kind of like Space: 1999, which had a decent first season but was axed because some stupid director changed the show's format.) The show's death knell came when they killed off Richard Chaves' character Paul Ironhorse at the end of episode one of season two.
  22. Well, I just saw the movie tonight. My opinion is that it is just your average summer fare action movie. I think it may have done better with a different director and possibly an 'R' rating. Overall, I liked it for better or for worse.
  23. http://www.illwillpress.com/ Check out the flash toon "A-KON: RULES FOR THE MASSES" on the front page before it is gone and watch the bouncing jumblies.
  24. Yeah, I agree Event Horizon was an enjoyable and fairly creepy movie. Graham I loved Event Horizon also. It will probably be this guy's only crowning achievement. As for the AvP movie, I am seeing it tomorrow. I have purposely avoided all trailers and other such promotional crap just so I am not going into the theatre. So I know absolutely anything about this flick. I really don't want to read anymore posts on this thread until after I see it.
  25. Hey, I'm there! Where's mine? Yep, it's the Gunbuster as Valkyrie stated. ガンバスター is the Japanese characterization for the Gunbuster.
