  1. If you find it as bad as we do, I hope you add it to your list of anime you hate. I love it when you use that picture of Nadia looking all pissed off when she watches something that stinks. I love this image...
  2. Well, you beat me to the punch then. I haven't got mine because I've got my order on hold until the one coin figures I ordered come in. This is also including my remastered DVD's. The end of November is a long way off...
  3. I've been pretty happy with the 2 Dell systems I have owned, so I took advantage of that deal on getting a new desktop from Dell. I got practically everything but the kitchen sink thrown into it. I figure I should be able to get a few years out of it before I have to go and upgrade again. I also got the Dell 20" flat screen monitor and I can tell you it is outstanding.
  4. I am having trouble finding trading cards featuring Japanese racequeens and other idols. The site I usually frequent seems to have gone down permanently, and I have not been able to find a site which sells a lot of these. Search engines can really suck sometimes. Does anyone else out there who may have an affinity for collecting these cards know of a site I can go to? Don't be shy. I know some of you out there like these girls as much as I do. And since Akane Soma seems to be staying out of the limelight, I need to get my fix with some nifty Miho Yoshioka cards. So share any sites you have with me. You mods can take this thread down once I get a good link. Thanks!
  5. Due to popular demand my ass! Someone needs to reword that to "Due to Angry Protests." ADV has got a bug up their stinkhole thinking they can charge and additional $3.00 when you can get other anime magazines out there for a lot less. I owuld rather have the Japanese edition anyways.
  6. That would be the ideal situation to have them both or either on it, but I suppose Anderson costs a lot less, so do the math. I didn't see AvP, but from what I remember, it wasn't THAT much of a hit, was it? I remember it kind of opened big but dropped way off the second week, didn't it??? Yeah, they should do the math. If they got Scott and Cameron together, it would probably result in a better product and really revive the franchise. Cameron's movies have always done well respectably as have Scott's. I guess Fox doesn't give a crap. And the worst thing that can become of this? This movie will probably be like Batman and Robin, with a singing and dance routine thrown in for extra measure and given a G rating for the little kiddies to come and see.
  7. Yep, you read it right. I do not know if this has been posted, but I saw the poster for this movie today when I went to see Team America, and I just have to say "Why?" I loved this show as a kid when it was on TV (yes, I am old enough to have watched it), but I have to wonder why it is being made. Hopefully, with Bill Cosby at the helm writing this, it will not be a dismal failure. From what I've been able to find out, the movie starts off animated, then the cast pops out of the TV into the live world. God only knows where it will head from there. If you want to see the trailer for this movie, click this link http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fat_albert/.
  8. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned Turok: Seeds of Evil. Next to GoldenEye, this game was one of the best first-person shooters ever made for the Nintendo 64. I love this game. Turok 2 and GoldenEye are the only reasons why I still own my N64.
  9. Actually, that loose translation came from Nemo who owns the Gunbuster site at http://www.biwa.ne.jp/~buj/teikoku.htm. I talk to him every now and then and he actually helped me on the Gunbuster chronology time table which I have been working on. He's a nice guy, but his English is rather limited. He told me the same thing you did in reference to the kanji, but the other version he gave me was easier to remember and sounded the closest.
  10. Hey, the live action version which aired during the 70's was the bomb! It was one of my favorite shows as a kid. And it is the original Ghostbusters, as it pre-dates the Bill Murray/Dan Ackroyd crapfest. I really hope you are talking about the New Adventures of Jonny Quest. The original was pretty good, even if it does seem cheesy by today's standards. Here's my list: Tarzan and the Super Seven Heathcliff Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Hour Inspector Gadget Smurfs He-Man Thundercats Strawberry Shortcake Care Bears Danger Mouse The Mighty Orbots Pole Position Silverhawks Beetlejuice Challenge of the Gobots The Jetsons The Flintstones Superfriends (Both versions with the Wonder Twins and that idotic boy, girl, and dog with a cape) I could go on, but why bother?
  11. Why? Most of this stuff was already reasonably explained in the original. And if you aren't aware of it, the science lessons were in a fact a parody of the series itself, as the super deformed Noriko and Kazumi treated the show as a series they were actors in. They even answered 'fan mail' from kids who wanted to know how things worked. Hopefully Gainax will not retread over this and leave well enough alone. As for the title being added to the Japanese name, ガンバスター literally translates to gamba star, which probably evolved into the romanized Gunbuster we are all familiar with. I also came up with the same conclusion you did, figuring fans who were not familiar with Gunbuster would think you were mistakenly thinking of Aim for the Ace!
  12. Gunbuster was included in the opening credits along with the Japanese title (See images). Its official name was Top O Nerae! or Top wo Nerae! or however it is called. And it all boils down to being called Aim for the Top! in English. It was US Renditions which refered to it as Gunbuster here in the states. It kind of caught on with the fans and made it more easily discernable. At least that is how I feel about it. But the word Gunbuster is prevalent on a lot of the Japanese media titles as well. It's just used in the background.
  13. Godspeed Mr. Reeves, and thanks for all the memories. Even to this day, Superman is still one of my favorite movies. You indeed truly proved that you were a Superman.
  14. Paying homage to anime is one thing. The original series first episode was a carbon copy of the first episode of Aim for the Ace! But the talking cat and the fight in space without a spacesuit is, to use the vernacular Aiming Way Over the Top! I can understand Gainax's obssessive use of other genre in their anime series, but sometimes it's too much. In my opinion, the FCLC look is not appropriate here, seeing as how the original was so beautifully drawn. Sure, the newer animation looks nice, but Mikimoto's designs on the original lent a sense of realism which was heightened by the emotion used by the voice actors themselves. I will probably continue to watch this series as it progresses. I may even begin to like it. Hopefully Gainax will take this series in the same direction the original went and it will end dramatically. I'm trying really hard to be objective here... The original series has always been known as Aim for the Top! in Japan, even though there is the word Gunbuster under the title. It became the norm by its fans to call the series Gunbuster after it came to the US in the early 90's. As for the newer mecha, the name DIX-NEUF would suggest that there are more than one. DIX-NEUF is French for 19. And I hope the original Gunbuster can hold onto its reigning title of the largest piloted robot in anime (I am not including the Buster Machine Three, which was a planet, after all). I agree with Jemstone here. The original did not need a sequel. It ended perfectly. But, there are 5 more episodes to go. We will see what the future holds.
  15. Sorry to sound anal, but you need to get the name right. It's Milia, not Miriya. There was no Miriya in DYRL. Or Macross, for that matter.
  16. That Zentran grunt getting his head crushed by Milia is possibly one of the most f**ked up things I have seen in Macross. First getting shot to pieces by cannon fire then having your enemy step on your head to make it really final is just plain overkill. But it is great nonetheless.
  17. I was born on the 6th. Happy Birthday! You too, Minmay. Where ever you are.
  18. Just wanted to let you know, CD Japan is out of the One Coin Collector's Figures. I just snagged the last two boxes. Hobby Link Japan and Yes Asia still have them if you are interested.
  19. I'd say download the Fansub at least... I don't think its worth buying but give it a try... It wasn't my post that changed your mind was it? No, I've already seen it. Not my cup of tea, and this coming from the largest Gunbuster fan in the galaxy.
  20. This movie looks great! Can't wait to see it. If I had my way though, ol' Mikey would be eating something else.
  21. Cancelled my pre-order for the first DVD of the second series. I'm kind of partial to FLCL, but I do not want to see Aim for the Top! done that way. Way to go Gainax. You have raped my memory of a classic anime. Then again, the original started off kind of wacky before getting all serious. Then again, who am I kidding?
  22. Looks new to me, and I've seen a lot of Gunbuster art.
  23. Are you saying that this sucks then, and maybe I should cancel my pre-order?
  24. First off, I am a big fan of Dangaioh, but not nearly as much as I am for Gunbuster. However, I'm having a bit of trouble trying to find the complete series. Ebay has a bootleg on sale, but I am not willing to stay up until 3 in the morning bidding on it. Does anyone know where I can find a complete set of this fine anime series? I do not care if it is a bootleg or the original Japanese version. And do not tell me Manga's version is acceptable, because I will go crazy. I want the whole series untouched and complete, if possible. I do not even care if there are no English subtitles. I'll work on subbing my own copy if I have to.
  25. Since this is the firearms thread, I am keeping this here. I have a spare 20" post-ban A2 upper receiver that needs a home. If anyone is looking for one of these, and is a US citizen only which resides in a state where AR's are allowed, PM me and let me know if you are interested.
