The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread
Noriko Takaya replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Why should they bother? Manga has not shown any interest in doing anything with Gunbuster since they acquired the license. Hopefully, if there is any justice in this world, Gainax will pull it away from them and let Bandai release it here in North America. That's if they still even retain the license. If you look on Manga's site, they still have every anime series they've ever released listed (and I mean every one of them), but Aim for the Top! is nowhere to be found. -
Other Anime or Science Fiction name change

Apparently not if Gainax has seen fit to make a rather sub-par sequel to the series which seems to be doing rather well in Japan right now. -
Other Anime or Science Fiction name change

If you guys diss me and I'm not allowed to talk about Gunbuster here anymore, I will leave. And don't say it's not relevant, Mr March. There are tons of Gunbuster fans on this site. In fact, I talk to more Gunbuster fans here than anywhere else. I think you should just leave well enough alone. Someone is going to post what they want to that's science-fiction or anime related regardless of what you change the title to. Edit: If you want to change it, why not call it "From Akira to Star Wars" -
Star Wars Republic Commando
Noriko Takaya replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You got that right. Damned things were better shielded than the destroyers, and just would not go down. You practically had to regroup your squad and retrograde to a position where you could snipe at them from a distance or lay an ambush. This was one of the most annoying things when you got further into the game. They were everywhere. And who noticed the battle droids and slavers picking up your grenades and throwing them back at you, only to have your squad mates throwing them back? -
I have a really large internal image of the mechanical structure of the Valkyrie in Battroid and Gerwalk modes. This is the Battroid version. I wish I could get the larger versions to you, but my scanner is not large enough to scan the entire picture.

I never saw any of the series, even when it originally aired on Showtime. But until the new Battlestar Galactica, I've been watching SG-1 and SG: Atlantis pretty regularly, and with a few exceptions I've liked what I've seen.

3 Million Pledged to save Enterprise!
Noriko Takaya replied to Magnus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh dear sweet Jesus! This describes me! NOOO! I'm a fanboy! Thank God it's only a series 6 episodes long with a totally crappy sequel which I do not care about. And if there were sheets, I'd have them! And yes, my basement apartment has its own entrance, and my mom doesn't care who comes by, only if they go home by eleven. Just please give me a gun so I can end it all now! Now, I realize I am the biggest Gunbuster fan any of you out there may have met, and there was a time that Macross even surpassed Gunbuster, but I have not been a fan of any of the Star Trek franchises outside of the original series. The Next Generation had its fair share of good episodes, but I stopped watching it when DS9 came on the scene, and I have only seen a few episodes of Voyager or Enterprise. But out of the few episodes of Enterprise I have seen, I can honestly say I was bored with them, and I really do not see the need to carry on the show. Let Enterprise die. Now, back to more news and commentary... -
Star Wars Republic Commando
Noriko Takaya replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, seeing as how the game is supposed to lead directly into Episode III, I would say the game's ending would piss some people off. I was a little shocked to see how it ended also, but after the release of the new movie, who knows? Maybe Delta will be used as a Jedi extermination squad? -

I knew you were reading these posts. I just wondered if anyone around here remembered the name you used one time. Maybe secretly I'm hoping you'd yell at me. -
Star Wars Republic Commando
Noriko Takaya replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Does the Xbox version include the videos that show the making of the game as well as that lame-ass music video? Wait until you get down to the very end when the Separatists start throwing everything at you. I've been playing the hard difficulty and it has made me want to throw my mouse at the wall. But the squad interaction is pretty cool, and damed if the game isn't like using a fire team. I've found that using squad tactics I learned in the Marines works pretty well to a certain extent, but damned if Zev doesn't like to get himself shot a lot. -
Since I have not seen anyone else bring this up, I have to say that this is a good game. My only complaint is that it is a bit short, but it is very nice to look at and gives you a totally different view of the Star Wars universe without the Jedi influence. Hell, your character's response to finding a lightsaber is in itself pretty funny. All in all I thought it was a good game to play and figured it would be worth a mention here to those of you SW nuts out there.

The State of Macross World,
Noriko Takaya replied to Major Johnathan's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
Hell, I remember when she was Violent Woman (?) over at RT.com and had those infamous arguments with that Invid-dude troll. Those were the good old days. Personally, I really don't see anything wrong with the site. A little banter here and there is what keeps things exciting. -
First ADV has problem batches of DVD's spliting apart a year or so ago, now this. Hell, video tape seems to look as if it were a lot tougher than this present form of media. As for my Macross DVD's, mine are fine, so far. I have a large video collection and the only problem I have with any of them cracking is disc 2 of Band of Brothers.

Yes, Devon Aoki is pretty fugly. And this movie will suck the big one.

Exterm-i-nate! Exterm-i-nate!
Noriko Takaya replied to F-ZeroOne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Tom Baker is very much alive and is currently providing voice narration for the exceptionally popular BBC comedy sketch series "Little Britain" (er... please don't ask me to describe this, non-UK MW-ers! Incidentally, some of the scripts are being worked on by at least one of the creators of another BBC comedy, The League of Gentlemen - not to be confused with the Alan Moore comic of a similar name) I would personally doubt that a cameo will be possible, at least as the Doctor - it would probably destroy the fresh feeling the BBC is going for. It is possible he could appear heavily disguised, I guess. Spaced/Shaun of the Dead fans - a Dr. Who script is known to have been looked at by Simon Pegg. I am very much hoping they are able to find a role for him! They could always do like they did with Colin Baker. His first role in Doctor Who was as a Citadel Guard in the episode Arc of Infinity. Maybe they can have Tom Baker come back as some scholarly overseer working in the Panopticon overseeing the Matrix on Gallifrey, which is the repository of all Time Lord knowledge -
Official - Weapons Banter Thread
Noriko Takaya replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Hey, you want a better image of that weapon? Let me figure out what I did with my original issue Marine Corps Guidebook. It's listed in the book. I also had the honor of firing one of the last remaining launchers still in stock with the Corps back in '83 while in Infantry Training School. Yep, the Corps is old school when it comes to weapons. I think the Army got rid of theirs before we did. The damned thing had the loudest report of any rocket I fired, and I thought the ground based TOW and Dragon launchers were bad. Wow that's really cool! So what's the impact radius? Some pics would be cool yeah I still haven't found my Marine Corps Guidebook yet. It has a subchapter in it with the damed weapon, and quite a nice picture of it too. -
FOR GOD'S SAKE, MAN!! HAVE HOBBYFAN SELL A PRE-PAINTED VERSION FOR THOSE OF US OUT THERE WHO ARE ARTISTICALLY CHALLENGED!! Okay, I'm done yelling in a feverished state. Those have got to be some of the sexiest Minmay statues I have ever seen. You certainly got my girlfriend calling me a pig for leering at the images.

Great moments in anime....done in MS Paint
Noriko Takaya replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, I've always found it odd that the name of the evil robot was the same as the actor who portrayed Reinhardt. There is a rumor that Schell had something to do with this, but I do not know if this is true or not. Okay, back to anime in MS Paint... -
I kinda like this one. Gives a new meaning to getting your hair cut and nails done while getting shitfaced. If they mess up, you'll be too drunk to care.
-
Hopefully never. I couldn't stand the show.

One other show did the same irritating thing. The first season of Space: 1999 would show clips from that week's episode during the opening theme, kind of giving the viewer a preview of what was to come. As a ten year-old kid watching the show when it came on, I thought it was cool, but when I got the series on DVD it kind of annoyed me. I do not know if anyone here is a fan of that particular show from the 70's as I am, but when I saw the first episode of Battlestar Galactica's new season, I kind of put the two together.

While I would admit that the United States has done its fair share to aggravate the sensibilities of those within its military penal system, PoW or otherwise, I find your remarks about Battlestar Galactica's use of so-called Abu Ghraib interrogation techniques somewhat irresponsible. The US military drills into each recruit's head from day one to abide by the code of conduct and the laws of war when regarding the capture of enemy combatants. But when an incidence of mistreatment surfaces and becomes mainstream, everyone seems to point the finger at the US, when there are other countries much worse than we are. God, if I had been captured, I sure would have rather had womens' underwear put on my head, pranced around naked, and dragged by a leash for all to see. It sure beats having my body placed feet first into a wood chipper, or having bamboo splinters rammed up underneath my fingernails, or crammed into a 4' x 4' x 4' cage and left out in the sun to bake. If anything, Battlestar Galactica's references to interrogation techniques are more common to what the former Soviet KGB, or any of its Bloc nations would have done to prisoners. And another thing, a lot of us have not seen most of the episodes listed here. Don't go blurting out things like "Adama is a Cylon". Good thing I did watch last night. So please add a spoiler tag to your message to keep one from accidentally reading what he doesn't know. As for last night's episode, I enjoyed it a lot more than I did the witch-hunt episode, which I feel has been the weakest one to date, IMO. The series is shaping up to be a good one, and I have to admit, that while I did not care for it when the pilot first aired, I have turned around and become a fan.

Dude! Death Star Repairmen rocks! I saw this a while ago. I think I still have it on my hard drive somewhere... OMG! I am a fanboy. Someone please help!
-
Hey, no problem. I actually like the prequels in my own sick way, but the problem I have with the acting is that they hired people (Neeson, MacGregor, Portman, etc...) who in the past acted superbly in past projects, but act so wooden and lost in these films. As for the acting in the fanboy picture, yeah, it is pretty atrocious, but I would have gone to see it because they are showing it free. Other than that, I wouldn't have wasted my time. And Max is right, those two hags, especially the evil one, are plain ugly.
-
I did that to be facetious. I never intended to add anything. I had to edit the message because I forgot to add that I am not a fanboy. And, as a former Marine, I find your insults refrring to me as a girlie man insulting to say the least. Please apologize.
